The
Riddle
Game
is by members of the Valar Guild, continually in progress.
It is a new
page put up today to collect riddles from the Forum and the Poetry
page
in one place. The riddles must be in poetic form. Riddles not yet
answered on the Forum may not have the answer posted on the Riddle
page, and are answered in turns so no more than two riddles will
be
unanswered on the Riddle Game page. The new page is linked to both
the
Poetry and Quizes sections.

A
Ballad of the Unsung by Jeff
Russell fka Manwe-(Valar).
Filk lyrics showing the battle in front of the
Black
Gate of
Mordor. A filk is a new set of words set to known music so that it
can
be sung.
The original music and words come from Gordon
Lightfoot, who wrote
an Irish-style folksong called "The Wreck of the Edmund
Fitzgerald".
The unusual use of "Dagorlad" is intentional:
first
because it fit
better within Lightfoot's template, and second because of the
literal
translation of the word as "Battle Plain".
