Down the Tunnel in Erebor

The dwarves were left behind,
The web-cutter was sent forth
He was intrigued, alone and scared,
Burglar though he was.

This was the bravest thing he ever did
His Tookish side inspired his steps
And so Bilbo down the tunnel went
Thinking of the Shire and of Rivendell.

There it was, the end of the tunnel,
Or, as Smaug saw it, the beginning of suffering.
The burglar took a deep breath
And remembering a sunny morning in Bag-End
Entered the gleaming chamber of death.

Bilbo overcame his fears and carried on
His destiny mixed itself with the dragon’s
And the war of words thus begun……
