Breakfast

by Hoegard Harfoot
June 21, 2010
Sung to the tune of "The Bath Song" by JRRT

Sing hey! For the meal at break of day
That sends the weary nighttime away
A loon is he that will not sing
O! Breakfast is a noble thing!

O! Savory is the smell of frying bacon
And the egg from chicken freshly taken
Better over the sizzling fire or in the boiling pot
Tis a meal to break the nights fasting lot

O! Elevensies cold we may devour at need
Down a hungry throat and be glad indeed
But better is hot porridge if eggs we lack
Than breakfast devoured like a midmorning snack

O! Lunch is fair when the sun is high
In a kitchen or inn when hunger is nigh
But never did a meal taste so sweet
As a sizzling hot breakfast the morning does greet!
