The Guardian's Way

by Hoegard Harfoot
December 2, 2010

Defenders of the free they gladly join the fray
Grim challenges are shouted the foes to dismay
This is the guardian’s way

Their stinging attacks do overpower their foes
With a shield of fire raining down vexing blows
This is the guardian’s way

Their brave heart as is promised never will it wane
With each block and parry they stoically ignore the pain
This is the guardian’s way

Stout and strong as always is the guardian’s pledge
As retaliation is sought by weapon's edge
This is the guardian’s way

In the heat of battle while arrows are let fly
To the rescue they come as allies do draw nigh
This is the guardian’s way

A stout shield wall is raised in the midst of the fight
Protecting fellows from foes much to their delight
This is the guardian’s way

With strong lungs do they draw one more lasting deep breath
The warrior’s heart strives to stay the threat of death
This is the guardian’s way

Every battle may come down to the final straw
When neither side is willing to call it a draw
This is the guardian’s way

With a brutal charge the fight comes to bitter end
Foes do scatter like leaves upon the blowing wind
This is the guardian’s way

So it’s back to the keep or the stalwart mead hall
To cast off one's armor and hang shield upon wall
This is the guardian’s way
