Cûm-nan-Arasaith

The Mound of Avarice

Rathlóriel flows silent from the Ford
Of Stones; beside it lies a mound where sleeps
A kindred slain. The River halting poured
Across a treasure flung into the deeps
Whence Ascar gained the name of Golden-Bed
But for it blood was spilled; red blood was shed
And this is why the mound of old was named
The Cûm-nan-Arasaith – Greed’s Mound – that shamed
The dwarrow-folk. Look long. ’Twas broken faith
That brought two vengeances–and Arasaith.
