Jan. 25, 2015
    Tolkien Site / Art:

      Cave of the Bohemian Weasel-(T):
In narrative order, Frodo and Sam in the LotR:
"Leaving the Shire" Sam and Frodo walking in the field past comfort represented in the background by a house.
"Campfire" Sam and Frodo camping on the way out of the Shire.
"Weep" Sam after the fall of Gandalf
"Remembering" Frodo after the fall of Gandalf
"Dealing" Sam and Frodo dealing with the loss of Gandalf.
"Osgiliath" Frodo follows the Nazgul's call to the Ring (movie only).
"Into Mordor" Frodo and Sam entering the Emym Muil bordering Mordor.
"Passing By"  Frodo, Sam, and Gollum try to go past the Watching Stones.
"Phial" Sam uses a weapon vs Shelob: the phial of Galadriel
"Sting" Sam uses Sting vs Shelob
"Exhausted" On the slope of Mt. Doom, Frodo is exhausted from lack of sleep, food, water, and the weight of the One Ring.
"Carry" Sam can't carry the Ring, so he carries Frodo.
"Claim" Frodo claims the One Ring at the fires of Mt. Doom.
"Eye and Mt. Doom" The One Ring is destroyed in Mt. Doom and the effect travels to Sauron and his works, destroying them (movie version). Mordor.
"Goodbye" Frodo and Sam can't make it back from Mt. Doom on their own.
          "A ride home". Eagles.
"A happier goodbye". Frodo and Sam at the docks.
"Goodbye to Frodo". At the docks: Pippin, Merry, and Sam say goodbye to Frodo. Sam will not have to ride home alone.
"Rewarded" Frodo at the dock about to go to Valinor for healing and happiness.
"Sailing Away" Ship leaves to Valinor with Frodo aboard.
Many of these were used as the end credits in the fan-made and acted You Tube musical "Let it Go", with Sam asking Frodo to let the Ring go at Mt. Doom. It's called a parody but is actually a tribute, pretty straight except for the amusing Gollum actor. Enjoy.

Thank you to Meriadoc-(V) for the link to this wonderful archery video, with techniques used back when they actually had to use it to eat and in wartime. Enjoy!

Topic: Sometimes in Middle-earth, someone backs away when he has the chance to the heroic thing for whatever reason. We saw an example in the picture of Isildur, when he could have destroyed the One Ring. Did anyone else that you can think of miss his/her/its chance for heroism?

 J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday: January 3, 1892.
In his honor, the Tolkien Society started "The Toast". At 9pm your local time, the Tolkien fan stands, says "The Professor", and takes a drink (does not need to be alcohol).
In LotRO starting at 4pm Eastern, mulitiple bands gathered on The Hill behind Bag End in the Shire (not the Party Tree) and played the Music of Middle-earth. This link includes sources for more Middle-earth music.
