Discord: Valar Guild/meeting_place

[4:17 PM]Eönwë Valar: And that's it from me.
[4:17 PM]Varda: Thank you, Eonwe. : )
[4:17 PM]Varda: Even for the highest level raider, the festivals have something. Essence Removal scrolls for example.
[4:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya, reading up!
[4:18 PM]Varda: Also, the instance or actual raids for high items that come only once a year in a special run, one per festival.

[4:18 PM]Varda: Aiya Phar 🙂
[4:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: But can it see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
[4:19 PM]Varda: crunch crunch The crunch and the cinnamon! Second only to chocolate.
[4:19 PM]Varda: Lord of the Rings kin gamers this past week:

[4:19 PM]Varda: StarCraft 2:
[4:19 PM]Varda: StarCraft 2 guild gamers this past week that I know of: Eowyn, Fangorn, Varda, Faramir.
[4:20 PM]Varda: While in SC2, we do spot other Valarites! I'm not the best at whispering there, and everyone is extremely busy doing the games!
[4:20 PM]Varda: Chatting is better done here in Discord, it seems. : )
[4:21 PM]Varda: Any other gaming news?
[4:21 PM]Varda: or membership news, or requests for something or other?
[4:22 PM]Varda: Daylight Savings Time in Europe will eventually come in synch with us.
[4:22 PM]Varda: On to...
[4:22 PM]Varda: Tolkien!
[4:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 2 more weeks (I looked it up yesterday)
[4:22 PM]Varda: Thanks for checking!
[4:22 PM]Varda: Seems as if this could be a kinder time for Europe anyway?
[4:23 PM]Varda: Topic: The final fate of the Witch-king of Angmar.
[4:23 PM]Varda: We've mentioned what happened to Sauron and Saruman after their forms of demise.
[4:23 PM]Varda: But something easy to miss is what finally happened to the Witch-king, after Eowyn and Merry dispatched its form.
[4:24 PM]Varda: Thanks to our heroes, he was no longer available to coordinate the other winged Nazgul or the ground forces. Major win!
[4:25 PM]Varda: So, what happened? Why not quickly return to Sauron and reform in a spare set of robes?
[4:26 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: He's dead, Jim!
[4:26 PM]Varda: Feel free to comment.
[4:26 PM]Varda: hehe Too true!
[4:26 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Eowyn exploited his weakness. As with so many socially maladjusted men, his weakness was... women.
[4:26 PM]Eönwë Valar:
[4:26 PM]Varda: That would do it!
[4:27 PM]Eönwë Valar: He had a mini-Sauron meltdown in the movies.
[4:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Like an implosion.
[4:28 PM]Varda: They needed a strong visual for something so important.
[4:28 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Sudden vacuum inside the helmet.
[4:28 PM]Varda: That would be a good explanation!
[4:29 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Maybe the helmet needed some sort of magnetic magic to sit on his incorporeal head and without said head present, it just attracted itself inwards.
[4:29 PM]Varda: (The sword was really that weapon we might swipe in the storyline on our forum?)
[4:29 PM]Eönwë Valar: Like Sauron and Saruman, the book talks about "a shrill wailing", indicative of the Nazgul, "passing with the wind", "a voice bodiless and thin that died, and was swallowed up, and was never heard again in that age of this world."
[4:29 PM]Varda: Very good. : )
[4:30 PM]Varda: Does that mean I don't have to put in the quotes? heh
[4:30 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Looks like all the relevant quotes are right there, though a little more abrupt than your usual full paragraphs 🙂
[4:30 PM]Eönwë Valar: I had my book nearby for once, so I pulled it out. I can give the whole paragraph if anyone wants it.
[4:30 PM]Varda: True.
[4:30 PM]Varda: I have it
[4:31 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: waves copy
[4:31 PM]Varda: The Return of the King, The Battle of the Pelennor Fields
[4:31 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Page 130 in mine!
[4:31 PM]Varda: Just a quick synopsis for the first part:
[4:31 PM]Varda: Eowyn is tanking the Witch-king (in gaming terms) when the hobbit comes from behind (proper burglar) and stabs the sinew behind the knee. That drops the Witch-king's shoulders in a kind of bow so that Eowyn stabs him with her sword between crown and mantle.
[4:31 PM]Varda: Quote:
[4:31 PM]Varda: "The sword broke sparkling into many shards. The crown rolled away with a clang. Eoywn fell forward upon her fallen foe.
[4:32 PM]Varda: But lo! the mantle and hauberk were empty. Shapeless they lay now on the ground, torn and tumbled; and a cry went up into the shuddering air, and faded to a shrill wailing, passing with the wind, a voice bodiless and thin that died, and was swallowed up and was never heard again in that age of the world."
[4:32 PM]Varda: End quote.
[4:32 PM]Varda: Hey, typed it up earlier.
[4:32 PM]Varda: Shuddering air, as if the air were steaming.
[4:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The fight is well enough displayed in the movie, then. But the crown overacted a bit.
[4:32 PM]Varda: Or just air movement.
[4:32 PM]Varda: It was high on itself.
[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: Stabbing someone in what would be their neck would tend to be enough to kill them.
[4:33 PM]Varda: Merry made it reachable!
[4:33 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ironic, for a hobbit. They tend to need something done to make it reachable.
[4:34 PM]Varda: Hmm, a knee... stab
[4:34 PM]Varda: Beats being called an anklestabber?
[4:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: True.
[4:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Or anklebiter, in the case of some dwarves in another universe.
[4:35 PM]Varda: It does suggest that he could neatly target the knee, so the robe also had some sort of visible leg cover.
[4:35 PM]Varda: Anklebiter sounds like the word I was reaching for. Thanks. : )
[4:35 PM]Varda: No museum will ever hold either of the two weapons, sadly. Shards of Eowyn's, maybe a hilt of Merry's.
[4:36 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'm sure Eowyn's can be reforged, if they collect all the shards. They've done it before.
[4:36 PM]Varda: Maybe there wasn't time to reach Sauron for a re-robing. And Sauron was very busy.
[4:37 PM]Varda: Take the shards to Rivendell!
[4:37 PM]Varda: Sorry, the smiths all went sailing.
[4:37 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Sauron's a good smith, maybe he can- oh, wait, he's gone as well.
[4:37 PM]Eönwë Valar: Seemed like that was a little too final for Sauron to do anything about.
[4:37 PM]Varda: That's it! Auros was waiting for a later boat and rebuilt Eowyn's sword!
[4:38 PM]Varda: It does sound like it, aye, Eonwe.
[4:38 PM]Eönwë Valar: Auros is a softy like that. Don't tell him I told you though.
[4:38 PM]Varda: The sword re-patched now hangs over a fireplace mantle in Ithilien.
[4:38 PM]Varda: No idea... : )
[4:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The sword reglued.
[4:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Duct-taped?
[4:39 PM]Varda: Elboron dropped it and had to duct-tape it before being caught!
[4:41 PM]Varda: An interesting thought. Aragorn was distantly related to the Nazgul too. To so many people!
[4:41 PM]Varda: But verrry distantly.
[4:44 PM]Varda: Ok maybe just scratch that. Tooo distant.
[4:44 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Normally I'd say all men would be, but I'm sure more than 2 people awoke back in the day in the East, so it's hard to say.
[4:45 PM]Varda: Related by being Numenoreans, but really not likely that it was from the time of Numenor. Would have been earlier. So aye, scratch that. : )
[4:45 PM]Varda: Any other comments, topics?
[4:46 PM]Arien Valar: Oops. It got me again
[4:46 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: hums Britney Spears
[4:46 PM]Arien Valar: Hehe
[4:47 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well, I suppose there's a chance the three Nazgul who are Numenoreans could be related to the royal line, but we don't have a way of knowing so far as I recall.
[4:47 PM]Arien Valar: Ait
[Aiya anyway
[4:47 PM]Varda: Aiya Arien : )
[4:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Like Sauron would recruit peasants! Pfah!
[4:47 PM]Varda: We were very close to retiring early. Glad you made it!
[4:48 PM]Eönwë Valar: Aye, it would make sense Sauron would try to recruit at least the Witch King from the royal line.
[4:48 PM]Varda: They were supposed to be some sort of rulers, but Black Numenoreans did not come from the line of Elros. More like in Middle-earth.
[4:48 PM]Varda: Not the kings of Arnor or Gondor.
[4:48 PM]Eönwë Valar: "Black Numenoreans" were the King's Men from Numenor.
[4:49 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmm, wouldn't surprise me if some with royal blood were among them.
[4:49 PM]Varda: Numenoreans that set up their own rulerships in Middle-earth, coming over from Numenor before the sinking.
[4:50 PM]Eönwë Valar: Aye. Just because we only hear about who inherited the throne doesn't mean there weren't second/third/fourth sons, daughters, etc.
[4:50 PM]Varda: So the King's Men worked for him, not family in general.
[4:50 PM]Varda: True
[4:50 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Right, Eonwe! Might marry off your third daughter to some guard captain.
[4:50 PM]Eönwë Valar: And it wouldn't be unheard of for a king to be... less than monogamous.
[4:50 PM]Varda: Thranduil in the movies did not approve of such an arrangement. ; )
[4:51 PM]Arien Valar: I believe the blak numenoreans were followers of the shipbuilder king who sailed far and wide to explore lands to dind resources to build his ships
[4:51 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, obviously the heir is a separate case 🙂
[4:51 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Indeed, it wasn't too many generations in that the law was created for the heir to only marry of the royal line.
[4:52 PM]Eönwë Valar: The King's Men of Numenor go further back that Pharazon, but they certainly would've latched onto him during the reign of Tar Palantir.
[4:52 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh yes. They were quite useful in my capture of Sauron.
[4:53 PM]Varda: The Numenoreans did indeed come sometimes to Middle-earth, seen as amazing since they were so much more advanced, tall, long-lived, knew how to make things no one else had heard of.
[4:53 PM]Varda: So a ship's captain, seeing wonderful land and admiring people, might set up a rulership. And be happy to have a golden ring helping with it.
[4:54 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ahh, so they were like the conquistadors.
[4:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: When the divide came, the Elendili tended to the northlands of Eriador and Beleriand where Gil-Galad reigned. The King's Men tended to the south like Umbar where Elves had no kingdoms.
[4:55 PM]Varda: No competition. No one saying what they could or couldn't do.
[4:56 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Actually, scratch that parallel. What I've seen from documentaries, the conquistadors weren't exactly admired as such. And I shouldn't bring that in here anyway.
[4:57 PM]Varda: Well, the idea of seafarers coming into a new land and exploiting it is not bad!
[4:58 PM]Varda: Lousy sentence above, heh. But the concept is kind of there.
[4:58 PM]Varda: Does drag us off-topic, so you are right.
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: At least we didn't displace anyone from Numenor!
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Not even the bears!
[4:58 PM]Varda: This went a bit longer than expected. Glad it did!
[4:58 PM]Arien Valar: Sort of u did ..
[4:58 PM]Varda: The water did that. 😉
[4:59 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Heh, true.
[4:59 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Bah, now I feel sorry for the bears.
[5:00 PM]Eönwë Valar: "In all this the Elf-friends had small part. They alone came now ever to the north and the land of Gil-galad, keeping their friendship with the Elves and lending them aid against Sauron; and their haven was Pelargir above the mouths of Anduin the Great. But the King's Men sailed far away to the south, and the lordships and strongholds that they made have left many rumours in the legends of Men."
[5:01 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'm sure those rumours in legends are references to something, but I'm just thinking... "name one"
[5:02 PM]Arien Valar: Did you not chase elendil family to live in a different town and forbid to use elven language and names
[5:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, I meant that we Numenoreans as a whole did not displace anyone when we arrived at Numenor in the first place.
[5:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: You displaced all the ocean life that was there before it was dredged up into an island.
[5:03 PM]Arien Valar: Ask ghan abut that ....
[5:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: You took prime real estate from the giant turtle-fish.
[5:03 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hey, we didn't raise the place!
[5:03 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: We just gracefully accepted it.
[5:04 PM]Arien Valar: Yeah ..righr
[5:04 PM]Eönwë Valar: You didn't ask the whales if they were willing to give up their swimming space.
[5:05 PM]Eönwë Valar: Raising Numenor probably cost us the tastiest shrimp in the Sea. Was it really worth it?
[5:05 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I wonder if we explored the place only to find rotting fish everywhere.
[5:05 PM]Arien Valar: But ...unfortunately i got to go .. Early start
[5:05 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And how'd the bears get there anyway?
[5:06 PM]Varda: It is the hour plus 6 minutes. : )
[5:06 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sleep well Arien.
[5:06 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie Arien 🙂
[5:06 PM]Arien Valar: Have fun while it lasts 😃
[5:06 PM]Varda: gavel hops onto the hammerpad
[5:06 PM]Varda: sproing
[5:07 PM]Varda: nice trampoline on top
[5:19 PM]Varda: afk short bit
[5:19 PM]Eönwë Valar:
[5:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Put the bears on cleanup duty.
[5:19 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya All! From sunny and warm Hilliard, OH, while i am enroute to Colorado from New York!
[5:19 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
[5:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heya Sandalf.
[5:20 PM]Sandalf13:
[Image
[5:21 PM]Sandalf13: On the Olentangy River, a tributary of the Ohio River.
[5:22 PM]Sandalf13: Light snow in Lincoln, NE all dat today, and about 75 Grad f here in Ohio.
[5:23 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Looking fancy!
[5:23 PM]Varda: Aiya Sandalf! You were due some short-sleeve weather. : )
[5:23 PM]Varda: Lovely shot!
[5:24 PM]Sandalf13: I am visiting with my
[5:24 PM]Sandalf13: German host-son and his family. His daughter, Ingrid, calls me "Opa," that is German for grandpa.
[5:25 PM]Eönwë Valar: Cool.
[5:26 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If young enough, that can sound like "Oprah".
[5:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If you were wondering about the pronounciation, which I assume is similar to Dutch 🙂
[5:27 PM]Sandalf13: Yes it is!
[5:30 PM]Eönwë Valar: OK, time for me to get moving on to the next mission.
[5:30 PM]Eönwë Valar: Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun.
[5:30 PM]Varda: Onwards!
[5:30 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!
[5:30 PM]Varda: May your mission go well!
[5:31 PM]Sandalf13: Namarie,Eonwe!
[5:31 PM]Sandalf13: Have a successful mission.
[5:31 PM]Sandalf13: Whatever it is.
[5:31 PM]Sandalf13: And if you see this document, make sure it does not fall into enemy hands.
[5:36 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Now for my mission to grab some dinner.
[5:42 PM]Sandalf13: Namarie, Ar! Have a good dinner! I shall check in later if time allows. Sei gesund!
[5:42 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie 🙂
[4:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming report:
[4:46 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, a fun little physics puzzle game! Gravity and momentum, to be precise.
[4:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: CircloO 2 is a game wherein you have to move a ball around to reach a goal, which adds a new layer to the level with a new goal. Constructions can be quite hard to navigate!
[4:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: You can only move left and right, so you'll have to build up speed and angle to get around obstacles and jump heights to reach your goals.
[4:48 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Nice relaxing music as well, and if you want a bit of a timed challenge, try to cut down individual level times to reach a total of less than 24 minutes 🙂

[5:03 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming:
[5:05 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone:
[Level 177 on the reward track. And that's my final number, since new expansion and reward track are coming tomorrow! Might be personal record. Certainly a lot of gold gotten that way.
[5:07 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Completed week 3 of the pre-expansion quest event. Bonuses were given for the brawl and the use of Cataclysm cards, and while I didn't like the brawl, I did open a few Cataclysm packs, only to realize I can't use them in ranked until the expansion comes out... so I had to forget 2 of the bonuses and just get the ranked +1 bonus. Which meant just playing 375 cards instead of 750. Still quite a lot 😄
[5:09 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So this was a week of spamming some games. Did a few with the druid, who's got special cards that ultimately mean 45-55 cards per deck - though I rarely even got halfway through them - and then the rogue, since I figured I might play less cards there but the games are also shorter, so it doesn't matter overall, and rogue is still behind on wins.
[5:09 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But we got there in the end, and that gave the Twilight Hammer Cho'gall mage skin.
[5:11 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The brawl is indeed that pre-expansion heroic arena brawl, which I knew was coming, so for my 5 brawl wins I instead did 5 wins in the previous brawl before it ended. While the week before was fun with zerg, I decided to make a mage protoss deck for this week, focused on recycling spells and cheapening protoss minions so I could spam multiple colossi with buffed damage and just wipe the enemy from the game.
[5:12 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I didn't always survive that long, but when I did, the game shifted unrevocably in my favor.
[5:12 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Who knew a Hearthstone/Starcraft crossover could be that much fun? 😄
[5:17 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble:
[Collection level 70! A few more epic quality upgrades indeed. I'm not sure if level 80 is possible, though 75 should be. In any case, for hitting the big 70 I got 2 star tomes... which immediately got 2 more minis to epic quality. Going pretty fast now 🙂
[5:19 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Molten Core raid is up, which got me enough valor points to max out Charlga's army, which means beast family is now also represented, very useful for heroic sigil campaign.
[5:19 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Didn't do much in there, though I did get Emperor Thaurissan with undead. Just beast to go!
[5:20 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Pvp track is done, monthly login track is getting to the good stuff. So making good progress.
[5:23 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For quality upgrades, lots more epic: Angry Chickens, Eclipse, Faerie Dragon, Ghoul, Meat Wagon, and Chain Lightning.
[5:23 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Almost out of rare cores to trade for epic cores now, should be able to upgrade 2 or 3 more. After that, the queue begins, I suppose 🙂
[5:24 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
[5:26 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: No raiding yet. My group's almost ready to start, but I'm nowhere near max level yet. I'll join em later. Though the old-school raiding night has now proceeded to Eternal Palace for pet collection, and it's fun seeing those bosses again. Seeing N'zoth unleashed is still a nice cutscene!
[5:30 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: We had a little conversation afterwards about the fate of Queen Azshara. I do expect to see her in Midnight or Last Titan. Surely the "true throne of power" she seeks has to be related to one of those, unless it's a setup to whatever is coming after Blizzard's grand storyline has finally come to an end 🙂
[5:32 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Same with Iridikron, a few more villainous pieces moving into place for the big finale.
[5:33 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Anyway, no weekly quests available to me yet at this point. I did look at housing a bit more, grabbing more hidden decor from the daily quest, and want to add at least something to the Den every day until I run out of ideas.
[5:34 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Got my large octagon room, which I used to set up the basic interior you can see in the screenshots. Additions since then have been replacing the wooden plank ceiling with a wooden panel and plant roots ceiling, to give more of a natury vibe. I'm also hiding the wooden posts with boulders. It's supposed to be a cave after all!
[5:35 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: A cave with a fireplace, but still.
[5:37 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And after that, I finally headed into Eversong. Completed the Quel'danas intro, talking to lots of famous npcs and taking lots of screenshots, and happy that most of the crowds are gone. After that I explored the new Silvermoon for a bit, seeing what npcs to be aware of. I'm sure I'll get used to it as the expansion goes on. Though to be fair, I still don't feel familiar with half of Dornogal either.
[5:39 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also got the cross-promotion Midnight achievement, getting the rewards there. I don't play Overwatch and Diablo Immortal, but I like the Bawkhaus pet for Diablo 4 🙂
[5:41 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V:
[Image
[5:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Any case, right now I've got my first quest into Eversong itself, and have made it to level 81 along the way. It's a slow start, but I'm sure things will pick up next week.
[5:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 81 got my first apex talent, too. I'm sure it'll be quite impressive by the time I'm 90.
[5:43 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my report for the week!
[5:43 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie 🙂
[11:36 PM]Eönwë Valar: Looks like Purple Judgement HD incoming:
[2:48 AM]Eönwë Valar: So I'm dabbling in D4, I know I'm not very far in, and it just feels so long, in a way 3 previous Diablos haven't.
[6:18 AM]Eönwë Valar: I don't know what it is, but something about D4 feels... I don't want to say convoluted, but like it's trying to be something it doesn't need to be. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's like an underlying tedium.
[6:21 AM]Eönwë Valar: Might try it with a controller, see if that changes the feel of the game.
[9:25 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well looks like Midnight Season 1 has begun.. and I'm behind by 8 levels.
[2:30 AM]Eönwë Valar: Can't help but feel a little disappointed Holy Bolt is just another hammer in D4. Don't get me wrong, I like the motif for Diablo and Warcraft Paladins in general, but not everything needs to be a hammer. Sometimes you just want to hurl a white ball of holy light.
