About the Valar Guild:

    The Valar Guild came into existence October 4, 1997.
    We still have a number of the original members and have not yet missed having a Sunday meeting.
    We are a guild for literate, polite people who want to actually play a game. Courtesy is also to be given to the "enemy".
    Valar Guild full members are Tolkien fans who enjoy writing and chatting about Tolkien-inspired subjects and playing online games to which we give a Tolkien theme.
    Our web site includes gaming and Tolkien. Tolkien interests include all works including Lord of the Rings, which are the source for inspiring these articles, stories, poetry, humor, art, language work, and book reviews.
    Members play many games. Our the current favorite is Lord of the Rings Online (the official Valar Guild branch is on Turbine's Landroval server). Our number two game is World of WarCraft (official branches in the Americas are on the Lothar server for Alliance and Uldaman server for Horde; in Europe on the Argent Dawn server for Alliance). Other games played are Diablo I, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, StarCraft/ BroodWar, WarCraft III/Frozen Throne, Dark Age of Camelot, EverQuest, Eve Online. We use our Tolkien-named characters (for recognition and theme) in legit, cooperative play style.
    Each full member owns his own Tolkien character to interact with the others in ready-made relationships, yet in a friendly manner even if one is an Elf and the other an Orc. The name helps in recognition for gaming, articles, the Forum, and Sunday AIM meetings. Maiar and Valar honor names have to be earned after earning full membership.
    Tolkien-only members work only with our Tolkien Encyclopedia, without gaming.
    Guild-friends are non-member gamers of the same philosophy who have not yet passed the minimum requirement to read Lord of the Rings , but who like to play with us anyway.
    We allow membership in other guilds, clans, kinships etc, as long as this causes the Valar Guild no harm.
    Your general contact for anything concerning the Valar Guild or Tolkien is Varda.
