How to use AIM to join GUILD MEETINGS
Meetings are held on AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) in chat room 'Valar Guild Meetingplace'.
We have helpers in channel 'Clan Vala' on Bnet, and you can still receive credit
for showing up if you are listed by a roll taker there.
You can enter the chat room in a couple of ways.
From the menu on top under 'People', invite
yourself or make the chat room, much like making a channel in Bnet, by
sending a chat invitation to your screen name (not display name),
then typing in 'Valar Guild Meetingplace' as the chat room name. The chat room
will come up. Then choose "no" when the box asks if you wish to accept
the invitation, or it will make a new chat room of the same name and
you will wind up in that empty room.
You can also create a shortcut to the chat room once inside, that you can use the
next time you want to join (only need to do this once). To create the shortcut, from the menu on top
under 'File' choose 'Create shortcut'. It will ask you if you want to create the shortcut on your Desktop,
so choose YES and Voila! You can then double-click on it anytime you want to join the meeting room.
(The shortcut can of course be moved anywhere, it doesn't need to be on your desktop.)
To invite another member to the chat, use the menu from the chat
room (not the buddy list) to automatically give the correct chat room
name. Invite the person's screen name, not the display name.
Download AIM free from www.aim.com
. Please make a screen name using your guild name so we can recognize
you for the roll, to give you proper credit. If you already have a
screen name, you can use that, but you can also add a "new" screen
name. This is done as if you never had a screen name before, but when
it comes back up, you'll see a drop down list of your old screen names
and your new one.
Please email Arathorn your AIM screen name for the meeting. Please
also mention the screen name for general use if you use another one
normally but would like it to be contacted by guild members. If you
want the outsider screen name kept private for helping attempts to find
you during inactivity sweeps, tell Arathorn so that he can inform Varda and
it won't be listed on the Activity page.
Any AIM names Arathorn and Varda are aware of will be listed on the Quick AIM and
Activity page respectively, unless told differently. To update your AIM name info, please email
Arathorn.

Download Buddy lists for Valar Guild: Can load lists right into your AIM!
For newcomers or members who aren't sure if they have the entire Valar Guild buddy list, I am now maintaining two
AIM Buddy lists for the Guild with the names from the QuickAim page (keeping them synched).
You can download these .BLT files to your PC, then just LOAD them into your AIM from the 'MyAim' Menu using
the 'Load Buddy List' option. It will create a NEW group in your list called "Valar Guild" or "Extra Guild IDs" (depending on which you want)
that you can copy names to your own group from, then just delete these groups after, if no longer wanted.
IF by chance your group has the same name, just rename it temporarily so that this new one gets created from the .BLT file,
then you can mix/match as you like and delete the group that you don't want after.
The "Valar Guild" list has all the names used most often by members in meetings and Guild correspondence
The "Extra Guild IDs" list has backup IDs a member may use as well, so you may want those on hand too.

If you have any problems downloading or loading these lists into AIM, drop me a line.

An FYI from Varda:
IRC was considered as we used to use
it but, according to Gwaihir who is on a great deal, IRC is unstable
and people have picked up viruses by using it.
