First Age
Ar-Gimilzor
Ar-Gimilzor was the twenty-third King of Numenor,
and one of the worst
by far. Of all the people in Numenor, Ar-Gimilzor was the
greatest enemy of the Faithful. In his reign the White Tree
wasn't tended to, and he severely punished all those that spoke elvish
and those that welcomed the Ships of Eressea that came in secret.
Ar-Gimilzor tried hard to make sure his deeds were
not heard of by the
Valar in the West, naming the Elves 'Spies of the West', and was happy
to see the Elendili sail to Middle-earth and not return.
Of course his efforts failed and Manwe saw all that
he did and gave
the men of Numenor counsel no more, and the ships of the elves of
Eressea came not
ever again to the Land of Numenor.
Ar-Gimilzor married Lady Inzilbeth for her
beauty. No love
did Inzilbeth have for Gimilzor for she in secret was of the
Faithful. She bore him two sons, the eldest, Inziladun, being
like her in
mind and body, the younger, Gimilkhad, went with his father.
Gimilzor would have given the latter the sceptre if
laws had allowed,
but he was succeeded by his elder son, Inziladun, who tried very hard
as Tar-Palantir
to bring Numenor back to the great glory it once had.
