The Valar Guild Games Site
Valar Guild Games Site
[4:15 PM]
Check your gaing info and make sure it's correct.
If you haven't sent in any Gaming info, you still can.
Some takeaways from this year:
[4:16 PM]
LotRO is still the most played game, though it's down by 2 from last
year to 16 (we'll see if the new expansion coming will change that).
WoW is down to 2 from 4 last year. SC2 remained at 4, so it
currently holds second place.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:18 PM
Wait. 2? I'm in WoW, Arien's in WoW, Eonwe's in WoW...
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:19 PM
2 people responded saying they play WoW :} Talk to all those WoW
players who didn't say anything :}
I'm one of those 2, by they way, lol. So that really means one
person spoke up. I wonder who that was :}
[4:20 PM]
Current membership stands at 159 as of the GSMU. Active members (as
in, those who responded plus those who have logged into a character
in a guild branch in the last 90 days) sits at 22 (counting myself).
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:21 PM
Aiya!
Varda — Yesterday at 4:21 PM
Happy Anniversary, Sandalf : )
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:21 PM
The same right back at you and everyone else.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:22 PM
Aiya Sandalf!
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:23 PM
As a guild, we still play a combined 22 separate games.
[4:24 PM]
Unless there are questions, I'll leave it at that for the State of
Valar Gaming.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
(about a quarter of that is just me)
Varda — Yesterday at 4:25 PM
hehe
So I guess the quick skinny is
As of October 5, 2023, we know of 159 active members playing 22
games.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:25 PM
You (Phar), Fladrif, and Pallando have the widest range of games, if
that's of interest.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
That is of interest!!
Any hope of their overlapping with others?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
And I keep wondering where my free time goes.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
hehe
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:27 PM
Well, aside from those three, everyone but me lists only 1 game.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:27 PM
I missed catching Pallando. He was on a second ago
[4:27 PM]
Interesting!
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
I have 3 listed and 2 of those are LotRO and WoW, so you can imagine
the third doesn't get much time, heh.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Which is that if I may ask?
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
okay Trolls decimated ^^
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Starcraft 2.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Huzzah on Trollage!
[4:29 PM]
ah ok. Have to get you with Fangorn and maybe others sometime? : )
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
Don't think anyone wants to be up at 2am just to play SC2 with me :}
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
| certainly list two games ?
Varda — Yesterday at 4:29 PM
The Arizonans are on a different time zone
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:30 PM
Arien, You didn't respond so all I could glean for you was LotRO.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
ah sorry i can still send you tghe update for WoW .. but there
s so many characters that tales evem ,e ages
so it won t be before tomorrow
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
You don't have to give me every character if it helps.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
I just gave my alliance, horde and classic mains, so just 3
Varda — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
I generally don't list all my characters in the GSMU, just the
games.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
If you just want just give me game, server, and one or two that
you're happy to be found on, we can keep it to that.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Characters tend to come in a separate post from me.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
I'm currently at 26 on Argent Dawn alone
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Oh i never knew that xD
Varda — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Mainly we're trying to see how to get together with each other, even
if it's wanted.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
And will be at 33 by the time Project Horde is done.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
The point is to be able to find eachother in the game. If you have a
couple of mains to go by, great, and anyone who wants to get with
you on a different char can actually gasp talk to you :}
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
all right
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
Wish I could link my character list on the armory but it only shows
for the account you're logged in on, there's no specific link for a
specific account.
Treebeard — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Hello
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
When chars are outside a guild branch (particularly one I can check)
I go by what you tell me. You don't have to give me every alt, just
where you want to be found, and Alliance/Horde at the least. I'll
put level, but I don't track it as closely as I try to for guild
branches.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Aiya Treebeard! Happy Anniversary!
[4:38 PM]
Not much point in showing level if it's not in one of our branches,
except maybe a main on the Membership page perhaps? Where would we
be able to show it otherwise? Maybe just get together on Discord?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Or I can do this
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/98425690877104128/1160692847067025531/Team_Cal_oct_23.png
[4:39 PM]
Goblin warrior still missing as nr 26, it only shows from
level 10 onward
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:39 PM
I do level mostly so someone knows where that character sits
relative to content if they want to get involved.
[4:40 PM]
Though for WoW anything below the 10 levels of the current expansion
really can go anywhere and level now, so shrug.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:40 PM
heh, Phar. : )
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
People at least need to know (for WoW) server, name and
Alliance/Horde (race helps in that some, class also nice)
[4:42 PM]
Anyway, any other questions?
[4:43 PM]
OK, onward.

Tolkien!
[4:56 PM]
A question that came up in-game yesterday was
When was perhaps the last chance for Gollum to
turn about to be on Frodo's side willingly?
Thoughts?
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
We see on the way to Mordor the conversation between his two sides
maybe there
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Interesting question, since Gollum would not have led them to Cirith
Ungol if he wasn't planning on at least exposing them to Shelob.
So any turnabouts before then might have required an alternate
route.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Last chance? Technically any time until he disappeared leaving Frodo
and Sam to fend for themselves in Shelob's lair. He'd already
committed himself to his scheme by that point, but techinically he
could've already repented before it was too late.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
or maybe earlier . after he was captured .. i think at the point of
that conversation his own will was not strong enough anymore
[4:59 PM]
after the oath#
Varda — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
I guess he was always allowed a last chance while he lived, but
being able to in his own will or desire? Ouch.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
There have been times since the oath that he came close to turning.
[5:01 PM]
But, through external circumstances or not (coughsamcough) he always
hardened his mind.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
He wasn't strong enough to manage against a slight, early headwind.
[5:03 PM]
Sounds right.
Going along with Phar's cough there, are you ready for a Tolkien
Moment? If you have more comments, now is good!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
Frankly, he could've still turned after Shelob. "Silly hobbitses,
getting separated from me in spider's lair! Good thing you made it!"
Varda — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
Aye, he could have. : )
Pull Frodo back before he bounded into Shelob outside.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Except he would've been lying at that point, not typically a good
way to get a fresh start.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
But he had already committed, and aye, the lying can mess it up even
for Gollum.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Perhaps, but he could've regretted leaving "master" to the spider
after the fact.
Little white lie.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
But he was allowed as long as he lived. No, Master. I will help you
stop the Dark Lord. yoinks Ring and jumps
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Share the load.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
He could have "accidentally* pushed Sam away and jumped to pull
Froldo back by the feet
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Except that "little white lie" would be something Gollum would hold
over Smeagol's head.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Frodo was never going to be able to destroy the Ring alone. That was
why they had a Fellowship. But Sam couldn't handle it by then.
It might have been quite a different story with the rest or part of
the Fellowship along.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
eh different timelines then to play through? which one would you
then keep upright :)?
Varda — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
Someone along who had never been a Ringbearer.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Gollum wouldn't have stood a chance stalking them if Aragorn and/or
Legolas came along.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
I'm thinking Gimli. Dwarves were the most resistant to Rings of
Power.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Just because someone had never been a Ringbearer doesn't mean they
would've been any better to throw it into the lava.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Hit at it with a weapon without touching as soon as it was raised
up?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Holding Frodo over the edge and waiting until the necklace slipped
over his neck?
*head
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Boromir never touched it and he wanted it.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
What was Elrond's original intention for them then?
Have to be quick, as soon as they see it. But it would have been
very powerful by then.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Elrond's intention was just for them to get it there and estel that
Eru would take it from there.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
which he did in a way
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
They had to make the attempt, whether or not the chances were slim.
It was the only way to truly end the threat.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Put it where it could be destroyed, then push an event like a rock
turning underfoot?
But instead of killing Frodo, they took out Gollum. Nice.
[5:12 PM]
But actually, the Ring did it to itself, believing it was still on
Frodo's finger, and punishing Gollum in the way it was told if
Gollum injured Frodo.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
The Fellowship was stripped away from Frodo for a reason. Each had
their part to play, but not all of them were to go with Frodo.
Bilbo's pity was what aided Frodo to get there, to see the Ring
destroyed, and to have a chance of coming out of it alive.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
and .. comforting thought somehow .. Gollum knew a last few moments
of real luck , joy and triumph .. something he hadn't known for a
very long time if ever before
Varda — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Neat thought
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Frodo's pity after understanding what Gollum had been through with
the Ring allowed Bilbo's pity to have the effect it needed.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Before falling on top of the lava. Because it's rock, not orange
juice /
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:15 PM
I don't know. If he died from the fall, probably better than the
pain of being cooked by the lava.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:15 PM
Indeed.
Though he would've heated up before impact, I think...
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:16 PM
True.
Though might've felt a little cooler while he was breezing through
the air.
Might've not realized he was in a convection oven.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:17 PM
hehe
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
Either way, it wasn't likely to be a pleasant experience.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
better toa roast taters in it nod
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:20 PM
Or Marshmallows.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:20 PM
Better to roast them above it, mind you
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:20 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if Hobbits had marshmallows. Seems like something
a Hobbit would make, doesn't it?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Hmm, indeed.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
aye
Varda — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Aye, and they come from plants they could farm.
Ok, before Arien has to leave, giving a Tolkien Moment. This to me
appeared to be the last time Smeagol might have made it.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:22 PM
From Wikipedia: " It is not known exactly when marshmallows were
invented, but their history goes back as early as 2000 BCE." OK, my
headcanon is now officially that Hobbits had Marshmallows :}
Varda — Yesterday at 5:22 PM
Most likely! : )
Since they had sausage, they might have had some form of hot dogs
too. ; )

The Two Towers, Book 4, Ch VII
"The Stairs of Cirith Ungol"
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Now I'm hungry.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
And so Gollum found them hours later, when he returned,
crawling and creeping down the path out of the gloom ahead.
Sam sat propped against the stone, his head dropping sideways and
his breathing heavy.
In his lap lay Frodo's head, drowned deep in sleep; upon his white
forehead lay one of Sam's brown hands, and the other lay softly
upon his master's breast. Peace was in both their faces.
Gollum looked at them.
A strange expression passed over his lean hungry face.
The gleam faded from his eyes, and they went dim and grey, old and
tired.
A spasm of pain seemed to twist him, and he turned away, peering
back up towards the pass, shaking his head as if engaged in some
interior debate.
Then he came back, and slowly putting out a trembling hand, very
cautiously he touched Frodo's knee--but almost the touch was a
caress.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
Hobbits did live on riverbanks in Gollum's day at the least, so it's
not too far-fetched.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
For a fleeting moment, could one of the sleepers have
seen him, they would have thought that they beheld an old weary
hobbit, shrunken by the years that had carried him far beyond his
time, beyond friends and kin, and the fields and streams of youth,
an old starved pitiable thing.
[5:25 PM]
(aye)
But at that touch Frodo stirred and cried out softly in
his sleep, and immediately Sam was wide awake.
The first thing he saw was Gollum--"pawing at Master", as he
thought.
"Hey you," he said roughly. "What are you up to?"
"Nothing, nothing," said Gollum softly. "Nice Master!"
"I daresay," said Sam. "But where have you been to--sneaking off
and sneaking back, you old villain?"
Gollum withdrew himself, and a green glint flickered under his
heavy lids.
Almost spider-like he looked now, crouched back on his bent limbs,
with his protruding eyes.
The fleeting moment had passed, beyond recall.
End quote.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:27 PM
That is indeed a shame.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Sneak??
Varda — Yesterday at 5:28 PM
(I can quote more if you want. )
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
That was the last best moment for Gollum's redemption, spoiled by
Sam's good intentions.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Sam tried to pull back but it was too late.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Eh, good intentions... the road to Mordor is paved with em.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
heh, right.
Interesting to note, Gollum did not break on the first harsh
comment. It took another to do it.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Gollum didn't even balk at first. It wasn't until Gollum [Sam]
accused him of sneaking and called him a villain that his heart
hardened and the chance was gone.
Er, Varda beat me to it :}
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Time' s up for me I fear O jave to clear the way for

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:33 PM
And each update introducing a small bug that you just can't narrow
down.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:36 PM
bug-squooshing time!
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:39 PM
Now I'm remembering the D2ME mod days. V&K called bugs
"Gollums", heh.
A particularly bad one they once called a "Shagrat".

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
It's a shame the D2ME mod is virtually unplayable now. That's the
only thing I'd go back to D2 for.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:45 PM
Alright, back later for gaming report
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:52 PM

For (non)flashgaming, a couple of new badges this week. I'll give

[9:11 PM]
Haven't gotten too far into it, but it's a cutesey RPG/farming game
where you're washed up on a group of islands, and you get quests and
gain levels to build up your new home.
[9:12 PM]
It does have an energy system, which means you can't spend hours and
hours in a row on it, but I suppose you can look at that as an
excuse to play in moderation
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:13 PM
Complete all the quests, explore the entire map, and... I'm not sure
what other end goals there are, but feel free to find out
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:14 PM
I will try it this week.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:14 PM
Sure
[9:15 PM]
But as a special treat... there's a second new game with badge this
week, though it's rather more complicated,
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Baldurans/city-idle
which might be preferable!
Kongregate

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:16 PM
I always wanted to found a civilization. Imagine....
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:16 PM
A city building game with fully simulated citizens, to use its own
description You get an island which you have to develop, a
population to grow, resources to farm, and research to complete! And
also a ton of research, a bit more Civilization like
[9:17 PM]
So yes, two kinda similar premises, but at 2 very different levels
of complexity and timescale. See what you like best!
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:17 PM
Thanks for the tip, as usual.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:18 PM
No problem :)
Blizzard gaming:
Diablo 4:
With season 1 ending in about a week from now, this last week I've
been focusing on my seasonal character, to get the questline done,
which also required completing seasonal journey chapter 3.
[9:22 PM]
To do so, I've completed Whispers, conquered a number of
strongholds, and captured a Wrathful malignant heart (the seasonal
theme). I also got Calfluzix to level 34, putting more skill points
in making my skeletal minions more powerful, and progressing the
battlepass to level 15, unlocking a few free appearances.
And then I completed the quests, locating cages of binding and
putting an end to the source of the malignancy plagueing this
season. And that's where my seasonal effort will end this time, as
planned
[9:24 PM]
Season 2 is coming soon, blood/vampire-themed. I'm still not quite
sure whether I'll want to make a vampirehunter-themed ranged rogue,
or another necromancer, blood-specced this time. The rogue feels
more thematic though, and I just did a necromancer, so probably the
rogue.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:26 PM
Hearthstone: Level 87 on the reward track. Should get there in about
2 weeks!
[9:27 PM]
Also completed the quest event around Yogg-Saron's escape. One quest
required a card which is part of the mini-set, so I ended up buying
the normal version for 2k rather than the golden version. Golden
minisets are nice to save for, but they just come out too often to
buy them each time, I guess, so normal will do for now
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:28 PM
As long as it works...
Always good to save money where one can.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:29 PM
Well, the currency is gold, which you collect in the game itself.
But yeah, the golden version of the set is just cosmetic, with
slightly animated card graphics.
[9:30 PM]
The brawl is Send In The Murlocs!
[9:31 PM]
Choose a class, get some random spells and a bunch of random
murlocs. I'd advise paladin or shaman, since they can have spells
that benefit murlocs in particular!
[9:32 PM]
WoW:
No raiding yet, still waiting for 10.2.
Nevertheless, they are busy times!
[9:33 PM]
We've got 2 weekly quests. Timewalking, for another Mastery of Time
buff (3 to go for mount!) and hopefully some gear upgrade, though in
my case it was something I already had.
The other is battlegrounds, which took me quite a few attempts to
get all 4 wins, though it's good for trading post currency, and it
got me to honor level 116.
[9:34 PM]
Also the Warcraft Rumble promotion came in, with a bunch of minis to
collect. But it seems there's no end date for it, so I can postpone
that for now, since there's more to do as well!
[9:35 PM]
And finally, the Eastern Kingdoms dragonriding Cup has started!
That's what I'm focused on currently.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:36 PM
14 new racing tracks over the eastern continent, with new badges to
earn and new dragonriding customizations to buy for them. As with
the last Cup, I'm focusing on getting everything to silver. After
that we'll see how many badges are left, and if there are a few I
can gold, and how much to leave to an alt instead. So far I've got 4
of the tracks complete!
But alas, so busy with things, did not get a chance to alt this
week. Maybe next time!
[9:37 PM]
And that's my report for the week
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:37 PM
Any news on the job front?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:37 PM
Nope, no news.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:37 PM
OK.
Have a great week!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:37 PM
Thanks, you too
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:38 PM
Two big trips planned for me....I am going to Nebraska on Wed to see
my grandkids, and then the following week I am driving to Boise, ID,
to see an old friend for a few days. Only 12 hours away. Not so bad
[9:39 PM]
Lincoln is only 6 hours down the road from here.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:39 PM
Ah, have fun Lots of driving!
You can go across our country in 2-3 hours tops
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:39 PM
Time to reflect, relax and reboot. The three "r's" of driving!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:39 PM
Heh, sounds good.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:40 PM
Boise is still 500 miles east of the west coast....Lincoln is about
1,500 miles from the East coast and 1,500 miles from the west coast.
I haven't see the ocean in a while...I miss it.
[9:41 PM]
I will be in New York in Nov or Dec...I will see the Atlantic then,
but the water will be freezing...
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:41 PM
Aw.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:41 PM
I am sure your water is freezing also, in Nov or Dec!
MAybe we should take up polar bear swimming?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:42 PM
The sea? Hmm, I think it's just gotten warmer in recent years.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:42 PM
True...but it still gets cold in the winter. Last time I Was in NY
in Dec, I saw icebergs floating in the Hudson (North) River.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:43 PM
Yeahh, no chance of that here, though the smaller waterways may see
some thin ice.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:43 PM
The Gulf Stream helps keep the U.K. and the Netherlands (as well as
Norway, Denmark, and northern Germany) a bit warmer than the
corresponding latitudes in North America. Always fascinated me.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:44 PM
Indeed. I once read that New York is more to the south than Madrid.
Fascinating is the correct word
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:44 PM
Tnat is correct.
[9:45 PM]
When I was in the Navy, when we steamed out of Newport, R.I., and
headed south, we could see an immediate 10 degree rise in sea
injection temperatures in the condensers when we entered the Gulf
Stream about 200 miles southeast of Rhode Island.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:46 PM
Indeed, Florida's about the same latitude as the Sahara desert.
Weird image.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:47 PM
No deserts in Florida!
Just humid and hot!
[9:48 PM]
Namarie, Ar! Sei gesund and take care.
