Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:12 PM
Can mention that there's a new Storm PTR up..
VardaYesterday at 4:12 PM
Sure : )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:12 PM
and one of the more noticeable things is that brawls are going to
change/be replaced, and no longer giving a weekly lootchest, so I'll
have... no more reason to do them over AI games, I guess?
[4:13 PM]
Ah well, things change.
VardaYesterday at 4:13 PM
What will their new incentive be or do we know?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:14 PM
No new incentive compared to quick matches and AI games, but they
will start contributing to the daily and event quests.
[4:14 PM]
They'll just be another game mode.
VardaYesterday at 4:14 PM
So more gaming.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:15 PM

[4:18 PM]
We were considering things to make for the
Anniversary,
meanwhile a French museum has been making tapestries
of JRRT's drawings. Not easy!
[4:19 PM]
Those drawings were pretty small to translate to tapestries.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:19 PM
I'm working on it! Explored information about Alcarondas and
4masters in general to get a general idea of what it could look like
VardaYesterday at 4:19 PM
It's a way of going back to the days when books had tapestries made
for them, and
[4:19 PM]
cool, Phar.
[4:19 PM]
So they thought they'd bring back the tradition.
[4:20 PM]
When they tossed the idea around, JRRT immediately came up from
everyone - so they got it worked out with the Tolkien Estate.
[4:20 PM]
Takes years to make those things.
[4:20 PM]
Should be done sometime in 2021, they think.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:21 PM
In time for the next anniversary?
VardaYesterday at 4:21 PM
Sooo, I don't think I'll be doing a tapestry, but maybe some of you
have some ideas. : )
[4:21 PM]
Likely, at least most of them.
[4:24 PM]
We've had amazing things made in our group.
[4:25 PM]
Paintings, sculptures, woodcuttings, mosaics are some.
[4:25 PM]
and of course screenshots. : )
[4:26 PM]
Since the theme is boats/ships, we might
consider things related to Ulmo, Osse, and Uinen.
[4:26 PM]
Who are those three characters anyway? I'll bet you know.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:26 PM
I will after this timewalk
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
No hurry
[4:27 PM]
And Aranuir just showed up in LotRO, have to add him to this week's
list!
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:27 PM
shouldn't that be next week's?
VardaYesterday at 4:28 PM

[4:38 PM]

the Who are Ulmo, Osse, and Uinen. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:41 PM

last areas where you could track down Gollum and recieve a fish.

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:42 PM

We just have to work out what the folklore/myth is explaining. Can
get pretty interesting.
[5:00 PM]
I like to look at all sorts of folklore.
[5:01 PM]
Pele of Hawaii has a lot of tales that turn out to be mnemonic
devices to track volcanic activity.
[5:01 PM]
A researcher figured this out and made discoveries in real life that
way. Reading helps. ; )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:02 PM
Ooh, that reminds me.
VardaYesterday at 5:02 PM
So when we write our tales of folklore/myth in JRRT's world, we
might think of adding in such elements for fun.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:02 PM

Pardon, not to interupt the discussion.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:07 PM
Nah, it was fine, I was distracted, hence the late reply.
VardaYesterday at 5:07 PM
This is kind of neat:
[5:07 PM]
In a 2003 article from National Geographic , it was reported that
the tusk, several teeth, and bones of a Deinotherium giganteum were
unearthed for the first time on the island of Crete. This animal,
whose name roughly means ‘giant terrible beast’, is a distant
relative of today’s elephants.
At the center of the creature’s skull is a large nasal opening and
palaeontologists today assume that a trunk used to cover that area.
To the ancient Greeks who found such skulls, it is entirely
plausible that they interpreted the hole as an eye socket, and in
turn physical evidence for the existence of the cyclopes.

saddlebags wouldnt really fit on an elven horse
[6:20 PM]
since they ride without bridle or saddle or?
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 6:21 PM
I've already painted myself into a bit of a corner, because Auros
has some sort of bags flung over Sulenar's back when he rides.
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:21 PM
bags sure .. you know too bags tied together that would be slung
across the neck of the horse but probably in front of themselves
actually
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 6:21 PM
We'd have to be carrying provisions, and I can't imagine we're all
wearing backpacks while riding.
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:21 PM
rather than behind unless they ared strapped under the horse
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 6:21 PM
Espcecially not Fainan with Frali fighting to cling to her while the
horse gallops, lol.
VardaYesterday at 6:22 PM
Frali is hanging onto the backpack? : )
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:22 PM
sits on top of the backsack might be more comfy on his bum hehe
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:22 PM
I think I was thinking about those, Arien.
[6:23 PM]
As for me, I just tie a knapsack to my horse's tail.
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 6:23 PM
Resist urge to say Frali is in the backpack. Resist urge to say
Frali is in the backpack. Frali is........on top of the
backpack? swish
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:24 PM
although i always found galloping on a bareback horse not that bad
eslecially when you do it right and have good knee closure ..
thats what keeps u atop .. reins are not rails for keeping balance
contrary to what people think
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:27 PM
Think it might be more painful for a male?
VardaYesterday at 6:30 PM
I suspect Indians just didn't go that far from camp when bareback,
or didn't pack much of anything.
[6:30 PM]
We do tend to want to take a house trailer with us. : )
[6:31 PM]
Aye, legs hold you in place and give directions to the horse
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 6:32 PM
Well, i guess something like this is possible: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pannier.
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:33 PM
i had riding lessons from six to fourtin or fifteen and was riding
maybe four or fve times since sigh
VardaYesterday at 6:33 PM
I think maybe just didn't carry much. All you need is a knife. Use
the blanket you've been sitting on or using for a cloak for a
bedroll. Quiver on leg, bow on back, or spear in hand and shield on
back.
[6:33 PM]
Waterskin and gathering pouch on belt.
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:34 PM
i loved riding and love horses but i am missing it too
expensive and no real time or horses bitg enough for me
VardaYesterday at 6:34 PM
aww. No public riding parks around?
Arien ValarYesterday at 6:34 PM
nope
[6:35 PM]
think the next decent riding centre with maybe anything bigger than
ponies might be on the shores of Loch Ness
VardaYesterday at 6:35 PM
Move to the Houston, Texas area. ; )
[6:35 PM]
Ride Nessy?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:35 PM
...Thanks, Varda, I was trying to come up with something like that
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 6:35 PM
3 swords, a knife, maybe bow and quiver/arrows. bandages, maybe a
change of clothes, and food/water are the basics I would imagine for
Auros.
VardaYesterday at 6:35 PM
Fast typing ftw!
[6:36 PM]
Change of shirt maybe. : )
[6:36 PM]
Find soapweed around the pond

Arien ValarYesterday at 6:38 PM
at least when they are not wet they cant endup as mudstatues
VardaYesterday at 6:40 PM

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:44 PM
Interesting. I'm not actually sure what I'd need to put down...
since D3 and SCII are on hold and I have a ton of other games in my
"to play" list where I won't know if they'll come up during the
year, or if I'll be interested in multiplayer with them.
[6:44 PM]
I'll decide on something.
VardaYesterday at 6:44 PM
You can update it if things change.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:44 PM
True.
VardaYesterday at 6:44 PM
Just tell what you're doing now. Add others when they come up.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 6:45 PM
Yeah, that works. Right now I'm between games though; finished TA
and before I launch into TA:Kingdoms I'll want to 1) do my art
project, 2) get some stuff done in WoW before prepatch and 3) write
another bio

Anyway, personal gaming report!

Any of you read anything by Washington Irving?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 8:01 PM

Eonwë ValarYesterday at 8:04 PM
I'm reading a book that's a collection of his essays and short
stories, including those two (bought it for Legend of Sleepy
Hollow really), and his stories about visiting various places
are very interesting from a historical point of view, but are kinda
dry.
[8:08 PM]
Not quite as bad as reading Plato's Republic perhaps :}
[8:10 PM]
I did like Irving's description of his visit to an old library, I
just can't remember what library he went to, heh.

Heroes of the Storm:
While the brawls are still up, I'm doing them.. didn't win much this
week, but got to use some fun heroes I was familiar with, so good
[8:42 PM]
One new level gained, from 426 to 427, getting Azmodan to 7 through
one of those brawls. A fun match though, actually got to 400 stacks
of his trait, which is a rare thing
[8:43 PM]
Hearthstone:
Another level for the Demon Hunter who's now 28!
[8:44 PM]
Brawl this week was one with Unidentified Loot, that being items and
potions with an "unidentified" property, meaning you don't know what
extra bonus you'll get until you draw it.
[8:44 PM]
Felt rather like a normal match, though I was able to boost some
minions with the stuff and get an easy win.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 8:53 PM
WoW:
[8:53 PM]
Raidwise, we got Mythic Mekkatorque down after a night of horrors
with the mechanics.
[8:53 PM]
Only 2 bosses to go, and when we get the last, we'll have a
shortcut, so we never have to do this one again.
[8:57 PM]
Another 4-mask Stormwind, giving me enough mementos for the mount,
the Wicked Swarmer, which I immediately bought Very nice Aqir
thingy based on the bee mount, with the same special move.
[8:58 PM]
Weekly quest is pandaria timewalks, which I'm still doing for...
mount and badges, I guess. Still, might as well.
[8:59 PM]
Other than that, progress made with the brawler's guild!
[9:00 PM]
In fact, I completed the questline (getting another mount, Bruce the
crocolisk!), then ranked up to rank 8, poked the challenge card that
unlocked at rank 8 because I was curious, and then proceeded to
fight 10 random bosses.
[9:00 PM]
Got lucky with them, as they were easy fights, winning all 10, and
getting the final brawler's guild achievement
[9:00 PM]
And then bought the tabard and the entire transmog ensemble, so now
I'm done Brawling for this expansion!
[9:02 PM]
Next week I'll do the final 8.1.5 questline for the Feathers pet,
which should be done pretty quickly, and then I can finally dive
into Nazjatar/Mechagon again, and hopefully make use of the rep
buff, possibly even unlocking flight before the prepatch
[9:05 PM]
In Total Annihilation, I beat that tough Krogoth Encounter mission,
making good use of my massproducing airplane. I even hit the unit
cap which is a high 400 for this particular mission. So I sent all
my vehicles and planes on a sweep around the map, clearing the edges
of 2 massive bases and pushing the enemy back to the center island
where the Krogoth factories were located.
[9:06 PM]
Which was massively well defended, as the one landroute was
completely covered in end-tier defensive structures, as well as the
edges of the island itself.
[9:07 PM]
But I kept cranking out planes and planes and demolishing that
pathway one bit at a time, slowly moving up to the island, and
wrecking the entire base.
[9:08 PM]
Took out the factories and then focused down the last krogoths. I
could've wiped out the entire base first but there were submarines
in the water around the island and I didn't feel like hunting for
those, so I just settled for the main objective
[9:08 PM]
I think the final killcount was 800 for me and 1000 for the AI...
insane numbers!
[9:08 PM]
Rounded down, that is.
[9:09 PM]
And that's my report for the week
VardaYesterday at 9:09 PM
Thank you, Phar
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 9:09 PM
Oh, might as well conclude there
[9:09 PM]
that I'm now done with Total Annihilation.
VardaYesterday at 9:09 PM
Grats or consolations?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 9:10 PM
I took a look at some Battle Tactics (the second expansion) levels,
which is over 100 new levels of various difficulties, but apparently
they're based on micromanagement rather than basebuilding and many
are on a timer, and there's hardly any story to speak of.
[9:10 PM]
So it's not quite my thing.
[9:10 PM]
In fact, the expansion was heavily criticized for it
VardaYesterday at 9:11 PM
Thanks for the warning
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 9:12 PM
So.. grats I guess? I got what I wanted, and now a bit of a break as
I explained earlier. Depending on how active the Shadowlands
prepatch is or how much time I want to put into the expansion's
launch, that break could be between 1 and 3 months or so.
VardaYesterday at 9:12 PM
: )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 9:12 PM
And then we dive into the sequel,
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms!
[9:14 PM]
I say sequel, but while many of the gameplay systems are similar,
the setting, style and races are completely different. In fact,
while the Total Annihilation factions parallel each other in a
Warcraft II manner, the factions in TA:K are even further apart than
the factions in Starcraft and Warcraft III
[9:15 PM]
I actually prefer it as a game over the original TA, though it is
generally somewhat easier to play. Or at least it was, when I was
younger. I may be better at TA now, that may not be the case for
TA:K
[9:16 PM]
Yeah, report addendum!

Are we finally getting the prepatch?
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:35 PM
Box version of WoW? I assume you mean the mini-wow thing?
IorethYesterday at 9:35 PM
It's in a box and only 5 people can play. I don't think there is a

Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:36 PM
Aha: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pannier
Pannier
A pannier is a basket, bag, box, or similar
container, carried in pairs either slung over the back of a beast of
burden, or attached to the sides of a bicycle or motorcycle.
The term derives from a Middle English borrowing
of the Old French panier, meaning 'bread basket'.
[9:36 PM]
Er, wrong link.
[9:36 PM]
We discussed that earlier.
[9:37 PM]

VardaYesterday at 9:37 PM
Might be our solution
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:37 PM
That's the one I wanted.
IorethYesterday at 9:37 PM
A bicycle is not a beast of burden (IMHO)
[9:37 PM]
Yup, looks like a box game
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:38 PM
It's a Terminator of Burden: It doesn't eat, it doesn't sleep, it
doesn't feel pity, or remorse, and it absolutely will not stop until
your legs can't pedal anymore :}
IorethYesterday at 9:41 PM
hubby has motorcycles... now THOSE are panniers
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:41 PM
Well, the pannier is just the bag that sits on it :}
[9:42 PM]
We were talking earlier about Elves riding bareback and still
needing a place to carry their belongings.
IorethYesterday at 9:44 PM
Robes, look how much stuff Chinese could carry in those robes, and
they even used backpacks
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:47 PM
To answer your second question about downtime, I haven't heard about
it going live this Tuesday.
[9:47 PM]
I think they're supposed to be giving a specific date when they do
anyway, since that's the cutoff for alot of stuff.
IorethYesterday at 9:47 PM
There is some difference between no saddles and no cover on the back
at all. If you've ever ridden bareback much you know your pants and
legs get horribly dusty and dirty. I have yet seen a movie portray
that with accuracy. Would the description have been "bareback"
and meant "no saddle" but possibly a cloth/skin covering with room
for a few things.
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:50 PM
Now that Ioreth has me playing the description in my head, I think
I'm going to have to go back and change a line in the RP.
IorethYesterday at 9:52 PM
brb. Poultry needs let in.
VardaYesterday at 9:52 PM
The Indians riding bareback sometimes did and sometimes didn't use
the blanket.
[9:53 PM]
Type away : )
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:54 PM
"'I did not know you rode bare-back, Gandalf,' he said. 'You haven't
a saddle or a bridle!'
VardaYesterday at 9:56 PM
Reason he's Gandalf the Grey before? Maybe used a blanket after
going White?
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:56 PM
'I do not ride elf-fashion, except on Shadowfax,' said Gandalf. '
But Shadowfax will have no harness. You do not ride Shadowfax: he is
willing to carry you--or not. If he is willing, that is enough. It
is then his business to see that you remain on his back, unless you
jump off into the air.'"(edited)
VardaYesterday at 9:56 PM
heh
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 9:57 PM
Thinking of it, I should flip back to The Ford of Bruinen as well.
[9:59 PM]
Hmmm...
[10:00 PM]
"'You shall ride my horse,' said Glorfindel. ' I will shorten the
stirrups up to the saddle-skirts, and you must sit as tight as you
can. But you need not fear: my horse will not let any rider fall
that I command him to bear."
[10:03 PM]
It almost sounds like the Elf isn't riding elf-fashion, heh.
[10:04 PM]
"'(Frodo's) hand left the bridle and gripped the hilt of his sword,
and with a red flash he drew it.'"
[10:07 PM]
Asfaloth has a bridle, Asfaloth has stirrups, Asfaloth seems to have
a saddle.
[10:10 PM]
So I wonder who are these Elves who ride "Elf-fashion" :}
VardaYesterday at 10:12 PM
Glorfindel was getting old. : )
[10:12 PM]
Probably those wild silvans?
[10:13 PM]
Once dead, twice shy?
IorethYesterday at 10:13 PM
Probably depends on if they were traveling. They could also have a
pack animal that came along as well
[10:14 PM]
No gears for just running about, some gears needed for traveling.
Pack animals do not need to be lead or be tied together, not the
content ones
VardaYesterday at 10:15 PM
Good point about the pack animals
IorethYesterday at 10:16 PM
They just come along. Some of the American natives would have
several loose horses when they went long distances, and what they
needed extra they could pack in a small bag which was slung across
their body to keep it safe and out of the way.
[10:18 PM]
Anyone who travels like that will mention that you can get to
smelling a bit trail warn. The natives would wash everything at once
- clothes on body - and when they had the time spend some care doing
hair and making sure they didn't smell too human.
[10:19 PM]
White men, on the other hand, the natives used to say they could
smell a mile a way and they frightened the game animals
VardaYesterday at 10:20 PM
Karankawa Indians really smelled since they covered themselves with
fish oil, but their skin was in great shape.
IorethYesterday at 10:20 PM
They didn't smell like people! If they were a horse nation their
horses probably had smudges on their sides
VardaYesterday at 10:21 PM
Coastal group, not horse people, aye. And they didn't smell like
people, right. Just the non-Indians could smell them coming : )
[10:22 PM]
To smell non-human, did they eat a lot of green stuff or smear some
kind of plant on themselves, for the horse tribes?
IorethYesterday at 10:24 PM
That's the thing though, I think of Elves being well dressed and
elegant. They are not going to keep that sharp appearance riding
bareback. Either they need to remove or gird up the robes so they
don't get horse dirt and smell on them, or have a quick change of
clothes, or use a cover for their horse or a saddle (with undercover
for best clean) What do they call undercover? Barding is it?
VardaYesterday at 10:24 PM
Barding, aye [Note: unless she's referring to a saddleblanket.]
[10:24 PM]
The elves in this rp include silvans that are used to running in the
forest, not in city robes. But the ones from Rivendell might be more
elegant.
IorethYesterday at 10:26 PM
But I'm not going to dress up my horse to go hunting, or quick trip
to check something out, bareback it would be. Gandolf's horse ran
free and only showed up when needed.. For that it would be necessary
to be bareback. It wouldn't have worked at all to have the horse
show up saddled and bridled!
VardaYesterday at 10:26 PM
Aye
IorethYesterday at 10:29 PM
I'm thinking that when I freshen up my novels I need to make sure my
protagonist has a dirt smudge on her but when she has been riding
bareback. I wonder if a dragon would do the same thing? Surely he
wouldn't sweat like a horse and he doesn't have fur to collect dirt
(and he probably doesn't roll in the dirt like a horse) lol
VardaYesterday at 10:30 PM
Dragon stink? : )
[10:30 PM]
Lizards don't have much smell.
IorethYesterday at 10:31 PM
I can't imagine a dragon smelling anything except brimstone,
assuming it was following the "dragonrider" type of lore. I can't
remember what I wrote
VardaYesterday at 10:32 PM
Might have something to do with what they eat, like a lot of seafood
or other?
IorethYesterday at 10:32 PM
I can't imagine anyone living on a diet of fish and not smelling
someone like it.
VardaYesterday at 10:35 PM
What does your dragon eat?
IorethYesterday at 10:37 PM
Meat, carrion, small game, he'd probably eat a fish if he was
someplace it wasn't too much a bother. When he's working for people
his payroll is food.
Eonwë ValarYesterday at 10:42 PM
I wonder if dragons would be a risk for salmonella, heh.
IorethYesterday at 10:43 PM
Why not, everything else is...
[10:44 PM]
Although my imaginary dragons have very wonderful healing abilities,
so they probably wouldn't get salmonella...
[10:44 PM]
As I watch small rooster jump up onto his blanket for the night...
[10:48 PM]
I think I stirred things up enough. I'm going to get off!
