The work on the forum rp group story, for which you did a huge part,
and the getting ready to start the next chapter.
tosses confetti
and for sticking with us for so long and working so hard, despite
the many demands of real life. This is no mean feat!
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:06 PM
It's my pleasure :}
and my honor :}
VardaToday at 4:06 PM
Thanks for keeping the WoW branch alive and helping with the LotRO
branch.
Thank you to the many members of the guild for keeping this huge
thing operating, with all its many parts.
Without you, no amount of work that we might put in matters. Your
gaming and participation has been a huge help, in the various places
you could be with us.
Twenty-two years for a group of any kind is very good, so thank you
all for making it possible.
May we have many more years to come, and may others of you enjoy
grabbing the various torches of all these things we have going.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:10 PM
(Aiya)
VardaToday at 4:10 PM
Phar, aiya! : )
Phar, thank you for being so great about showing up to these Sunday
meetings and joining in. It's highly appreciated!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:11 PM
Yeah, unfortunately due to health issues taking up much of my
sundays, I may be a few minutes late now and then.
VardaToday at 4:11 PM
No worries at all on that score. We
are glad you can join in.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:11 PM
Today was.. particularly bad, but hoping to get a doctor's
appointment earlier in the week and maybe hospital after that.
Thanks
Pallando-ValarToday at 4:12 PM

VardaToday at 4:12 PM
Quite a few folks can't come at all due to work and other
commitments, but we appreciate their aid in the things they can do.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:12 PM
Aiya!
VardaToday at 4:12 PM
Aiya Pallando!
And thanks to Pallando for the long time you've held up the Eve
Online end of things. : )
We have many people who are holding things open for others with no
particular recognition. Thank you to all!
Anarion keeps up the Book Review page without anyone sending new
stuff, for instance, but does it anyway.
Thanks!
We have quizes still online that members keep up on their own pages.
Thanks!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:17 PM
I'm still keeping transcripts, even though I don't have to send them
anymore
VardaToday at 4:17 PM
We have gamers that stick with our branches even when they are
nearly empty, keeping them alive.
Great for backup, Phar! Thanks. : )
I didn't know that.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:17 PM
I just couldn't let myself quit.
VardaToday at 4:18 PM
Scatha, I believe, is still holding open Steam.
Any others any of you can think of that you'd like to give a mention
to?
TreebeardToday at 4:18 PM
Hello Eonwe
and Hello all
VardaToday at 4:18 PM
Miriel and Irmo kept the Guild Wars 2 folks going for a long time,
having to slow down now.
Aiya Fangorn! : )
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:19 PM
Heya Fangorn :}
VardaToday at 4:19 PM
People will suddenly pop in with Tolkien Site contributions out of
the blue, helping many Tolkien fans worldwide with their work that
we offer freely.
Just the act of gentlemanly gaming that you all do is major for
making others have a good time, and relaxing after the world.
Proud to be associated with every one of you.
Any other membership news?
I kind of grabbed all the words. : )

Web:
Eonwe's webwork has also been recognized under Membership. : )
applause
The Membership page has benefitted from his work as well, with many
updates being made and more to go.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:23 PM
Nice feedback loop going on there.
Web under membership, membership under web
VardaToday at 4:23 PM
He doesn't handle that messy Membership page, that's me. But our
info works together, as Phar said. : )
The 2020 Membership page is also being set up, but for now we're
interested in 2019.
Members known to be active recently are now listed on 2019 as being
good for 2020.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:25 PM
Insert eyesight joke here?
VardaToday at 4:25 PM
You can check your name for that, give me a poke as needed. Puts

inserted bad joke
The News page has been somewhat streamlined, rather belatedly, and
the September info will be going into the archives.
This October we'l be taking more anniversary-related goodies for the
Tolkien Site, attaching them to the Anniverrsary page as well as the
usual spots in the site.
We are taking screenies from your games for anniversary runs , or
for the theme: Scary!
Since we're gamers, we are sure to run into scary things.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:28 PM
Guess I got my wicker pup pet a few weeks too early
VardaToday at 4:28 PM
Is it scary?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:28 PM
A sort of effigy-like undead puppy made of sticks and bones
VardaToday at 4:29 PM
Sounds like a qualifier for scary. Take a screenie if you would like
to enter it.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:29 PM
Probably got a dozen in my screenshots folder.
VardaToday at 4:29 PM
Still deciding whether to put just one scary pic on the Anniversary
page under the title or rotate.
Pick the coolest one!

I hit 60 on my warlock in wow classic. Celebrian and I took the free
transfer to Windseeker. I've also booted my old mud back up and
started coding a bit on it. You can poke around on it if you
play muds at telnet://timeslost.duckdns.org:4000

Grats for getting anything done when sick. : )
Arien ValarToday at 4:37 PM

ElrondToday at 4:37 PM
No, you can use telnet or a mudclient to reach it. Its all text
based if you ever played those back in the day.

members are saying they play right now.
VardaToday at 4:48 PM
Ups and downs
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:48 PM
Only one playing Hearthstone? Pff.
VardaToday at 4:48 PM
Will it start showing any difference for WoW Classic?
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:50 PM
At this time I see no reason to separate WoW Classic from retail WoW
as a separate category, since you get access to both when you have a
subscription. Differences will be noted for the servers members say
they play as long as they tell me, though, so there won't be any
mistakes as to where someone spends their time if that's a concern.
VardaToday at 4:51 PM
Server info can help on getting together, aye.
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:51 PM
As you see on http://valarguild.org/gaming/membergames/sort/world-of-warcraft,
I note that a server is a Classic server if I'm told it's a Classic
server.
I also try to give a brief description of the character
(Name/Level/Race/Class) if provided.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:52 PM
You've added classes and races too?
Ah.
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:52 PM
Since a couple of years ago I think.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:52 PM
Well, Calaron's a nelf druid and Calthazar a forsaken mage
VardaToday at 4:52 PM
He's a glutton for punishment. : )
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:53 PM
When I changed how I track the guild rosters, I opened that option
up for non-guild characters.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:53 PM
Levels vary, but Calaron's generally max.
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:54 PM
Pardon not levels. just race and class.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:54 PM
right
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:54 PM
Levels would be too much to keep up with beyond the guild rosters :}
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:55 PM
right
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:56 PM
OK, now that the GSMU and SoVG have been addressed, on to news for
the games themselves :}

Tolkien!
This may be a short game, heh.
Taking turns by alphabet: Arien, Ar-Pharazon, Eonwe, Varda. Anyone
else available? Eonwe may have to leave shortly.
Name a Tolkien character (any book) who is not a fighter.
Arien, your turn.
On second thought, anyone here please type aiya.
aiya
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:18 PM
Aiya
CelebrianToday at 5:18 PM
Aiya
VardaToday at 5:18 PM
Celebrian, hi!
CelebrianToday at 5:19 PM
Elrond took the trash out
VardaToday at 5:19 PM
Thank you, Elrond. : )
Ok, new order. Ar-Pharazon, Celebrian, (Elrond if he comes back),
Varda.
Phar gets to start.
Name a Tolkien character (any book) who is not a fighter.
We can try this for two or three rounds and turn everyone loose.
Getting late.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:20 PM
Well, I'll go for what might seem the most obvious...
one who is defined as the opposite of a fighter
and that is Ioreth!
VardaToday at 5:20 PM
(My first thought as well. Good!)
Celebrian's turn, if available.
CelebrianToday at 5:23 PM
Umm.. Rosie?
VardaToday at 5:23 PM
Good one.
Nerdanel.
Phar's turn.
CelebrianToday at 5:23 PM
I am kinda semi here too if I don't answer, sorry were both doing
house chores
VardaToday at 5:23 PM
Thanks for having gone one round with us!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:24 PM
checking to confirm...
VardaToday at 5:24 PM
Good thought. This is a bit tricky.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:24 PM
Aww, Fatty confirmed a fighter in the Scouring.
Hmm.
VardaToday at 5:24 PM
True. Rebel leader in Scary.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:25 PM
Did Frodo actually use Sting at any point?
VardaToday at 5:25 PM
Yes
in Moria
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:25 PM
Hmm, alright.
I'll think of someone, don't worry.
VardaToday at 5:25 PM
The movies made him look like a total non-fighter, hah.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:25 PM
Yes, I know
Let's go with Mandos.
VardaToday at 5:26 PM
Interesting.
Nob
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:26 PM
Movie aside, Arwen.
VardaToday at 5:27 PM
haha
She works just fine. We're book-verse in any case.
Nellas
(hmm, m's and n's. A trend?)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:28 PM
Let me go one step back then. Lalaith.
VardaToday at 5:28 PM
Good one
Arien ValarToday at 5:28 PM
Aiya
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:28 PM
Aiya
VardaToday at 5:28 PM
Aiya Arien. : )
Arien, can you name a non-fighting character from any book of
Tolkien's?
Arien ValarToday at 5:29 PM
Rosie Cotton
VardaToday at 5:29 PM
Been named.
I wonder if any of the Valar, even Mandos, skipped out on the attack
on Morgoth. Was he only set up to receive?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:30 PM
He may have joined the expedition, but I can't see him doing any
fighting.
VardaToday at 5:30 PM
He probably works, Phar. Just an interesting thought. He was
probably collecting dead people at high speed.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:31 PM
Form an orderly line, please.
VardaToday at 5:31 PM
Right : )
ElrondToday at 5:31 PM
I got one
VardaToday at 5:31 PM
I'll try Vaire the Weaver
Go for it, Elrond.
ElrondToday at 5:31 PM
Barliman Butterbur
VardaToday at 5:31 PM
That one works!
One more round and we can stop.
Arien, Ar-Pharazon, Celebrian, Elrond, Varda (if present).
Arien, your go.
You can say "pass" if present but can't answer right now. (like the
chore-persons).
Phar, go ahead.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:35 PM
Well, I might have an interesting one... does it count as fighting
when the character uses merely song and an enchanted cloak to put
people to sleep?
VardaToday at 5:36 PM
Yep, Luthien was quite the fighter.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:36 PM
Darn, thought I had a good one
VardaToday at 5:36 PM
Not bad. This is actually pretty tough.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:37 PM
Beruthiel perhaps?
VardaToday at 5:37 PM
Sounds ok to me.
Celebrian, if you're here, you're up. : )
CelebrianToday at 5:38 PM
Hmm.
I was thinking Lobelia Sackville-Baggins?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:38 PM
Hmmm, I think she was a mean hitter with that umbrella.
VardaToday at 5:38 PM
I'd say she tried to fight with an umbrella vs ruffians.
CelebrianToday at 5:38 PM
But I was reading about her and an umbrella lol
Yeah
Bill the Pony
VardaToday at 5:39 PM
Hobbits wiped out our game quite a bit when the ruffians needed
removed.
hmm, Bill vs wolves, but we didn 't see him do that. Anyone have a
comment yay or nay?
CelebrianToday at 5:40 PM
lol
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:40 PM
I considered him earlier, but indeed figured he'd kick a wolf or
two.
ElrondToday at 5:40 PM
He at least stepped on a bug
CelebrianToday at 5:40 PM
I got nothing right now
Celebrian
VardaToday at 5:40 PM
hehe - bug. Look out Shelob!
yay Celebrian!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:41 PM
When in doubt, choose your own name. Well, not me or Eonwe. Or
Elrond.
VardaToday at 5:41 PM
or Varda. She went against Melkor with light.
not sure it counts as a fight, but hmm.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:41 PM
hey, if Luthien counts...
VardaToday at 5:42 PM
Agreed. Plus, war-cry! Elbereth Gilthoniel!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:42 PM
Fighter by proxy, at the very least
VardaToday at 5:42 PM
Elrond's turn. : )
ElrondToday at 5:42 PM

CelebrianToday at 5:45 PM
I was looking at Elanor next
VardaToday at 5:45 PM
She's a good one.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:46 PM
Though we can't know for sure they weren't fighters when they grew
up
VardaToday at 5:46 PM
Ok, we made it through the last round. Now if anyone wants to name,
it's just for the entertainment. : )
There's that.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:46 PM
Some sibling wrestling.
VardaToday at 5:46 PM
Not counting that or we leave out anyone with a sibling.

How about... argh, what was the guy called again, the third wizard
VardaToday at 5:48 PM
Radagast
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:48 PM
Thank you!
CelebrianToday at 5:48 PM
Any Tolkein character?
VardaToday at 5:48 PM
Yes. Any book.
Saw Radagast just the other day in Ost Guruth. : )
CelebrianToday at 5:49 PM
Did Galion fight?
VardaToday at 5:49 PM
The king's butler...
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:50 PM
If I've learned anything from the Discworld books, the butler tends
to be the nastiest fighter :0

VardaToday at 5:51 PM
I really don't know. He may have. Mirkwood was under attack a lot
and had to flee from the area of Dol Guldur.
He's also friends with the captain of the guard.
But we don't see him fight. : )

After-meeting!
Feel free to chat freely! This is to let folks feel more comfy about
leaving if they need to.
Like sleep, chores, supper. And we can slip back and type in another
character at will!
May we have another 22 years for the Valar Guild!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:55 PM
At least!
VardaToday at 5:56 PM
(add another each year, gets to be a lot of years. 23 we wish for 23
more, etc!)
We just need lots of torch-bearers, which fortunately we have!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:56 PM
Keep that up and we'll be alive forever.
VardaToday at 5:56 PM
Not a bad thing. ; )
As long as we treat our time well. Be kind to each other! Just like
Valarites!

Oh, for scary stuff, have one of my favorite Carbot videos, from his

A blend of Heroes of the Storm and Five Nights at Freddies, if
you're wondering about the references
VardaToday at 6:06 PM
and thanks for telling the references.

Well, just got back from a late night snack so I'd say so.
And Namarie Arien
I'll do some Storm matches, then I'll start on the gaming report.

Perrrrsonal gaming report
For flashgames, let's see.
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Rachid1984/they-took-our-candy
made it into this week's list of badges only because a previous one
was bugged, but it's pretty good! Upgrade shooter, where you choose
4 halloween outfits with different abilities - unlock more outfits
to choose as you go - and then make your way through the levels,
shooting zombies and collecting candy, which you can use to upgrade
your stuff for that session.
Kongregate
They Took Our Candy
Aliens are ruining Halloween and stealing all the
candy! Assemble a team of vengeful Trick-or-Treaters to rid the
streets of the extraterrestrial invaders!

See which combos work the best for you!
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/sandspiel
is the second game. I have.. little idea what it does, but if you
can figure out, good for you! It's a sandbox game where you can mess
around with physics by throwing colored sand around. Which then
creates.. plants, I guess?
Sandspiel - OneMoreLevel.com
Either way, it looks fun
Judging by the thumbnail, there's more to it, anyway.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:22 PM
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Makopaz/idle-scratch-off
is the third game! I don't play a lot of idle games, but
occasionally I get in the mood to try one. This one has you scratch
cards for prizes, which you then use to upgrade your winnings, get
loyalty points, buy stores, and more.
Kongregate
Idle Scratch-Off
Scratch to win! Earn points by scratching off
your rewards. Purchase upgrades and move to new stores to increase
your income, unlock automation, and eventually...
Lots of things to buy and automate, although the numbers get quite
nuts.
Let's just say it puts cookie clicker to shame in terms of raw
numbers.
There's a lot of resetting involved for higher functions though.

Blizzard gaming!
Hearthstone:
Shaman halfway to next level, several others right behind. Few more
barely getting started.
brawl is one where you pick 6 cards for a deck, and they recycle
when you go through them. So you basically need a 6-card combo that
can pile up on itself.
I got myself a warlock mech deck with minions and mechs that make
mechs cheaper to get, and then went for a massive combo with
Snip-snap, the legendary echo mech which you can constantly attach
to itself for higher stats.
Kinda fun, if unfair, though it took me a few tries to get it set up
Apparently this solo adventure, with the fourth and fifth wing
released this week, is the first one where you have to finish the
first 4 wings to even be able to purchase the finale. Means I should
probably work on that... but I'll finish my levels first. After
that, well, I've been meaning to get some of the adventures done
anyway.
Heroes of the Storm:
still level 371, no new levels. Continuing on the event quests, am
now on the fourth quest out of 8, to destroy 12 keeps or forts.
Should get that tomorrow. Then we're halfway!
With plenty of time to spare.
WoW Classic:
Had a bit of time for the mage, as I plan to alternate one level for
him with one BfA objective on my to-do list. So I logged in for
about half an hour, got to chatting and a bit of killing and
vendoring loot, and made my way to level 3! Still in the starting
area, but that's fine. Hoping to get 2 silver by the time I hit
level 4 so I can buy some much-needed spells, including frostbolt..
at which point my reign as a Frost mage begins!
WoW:
Nothing new to tell you for raid, just farming the place on heroic.
Bit of trouble with Azshara still, but as we've killed her once, we
can kill her again!
Weekly quest is battlegrounds, including brawls, and I've used that
to hit the conquest cap once again, this time unlocking some bracers
and leg appearances.
Still need one win, though, but I'll go for that tomorrow.
It was my first attempt at the changed version of the Ashran
battleground, with 150 reinforcements cap. It makes the game a lot
faster. Most matches are concluded on the main road, and apparently
decided by good use of the Ancient Artifact.
Actually getting to kill the final boss for the quest before the
battleground ends has become almost impossible.
As for expeditions, I got enough dubloons for a new toy, a surfboard
of sorts! It seems slower than the raft from Pandaria, though, which
I decided to buy as well, now that it's apparently finally defined
as a toy.
Oh, had some fun at the brewfest still; some people in my raidgroup
still needed to win the chowdown contest a bunch of times, so we got
a group of about 6 people together to take as many of the seats as
we could, and give each other wins. We found some tricks to speed it
up, too, including leaving the contest early to avoid getting the
debuff. Which, by the way, has been nerfed to 3 minutes.
But I think Brewfest is over now, so for all that stuff you'll have
to wait until next year if you want that done yourself.
Got a new pet, Taptaf! It's a bit of a secret pet down the coast of
Drustvar, with an npc and a pig, and if you kill the npc you get the
pig as a pet for a quest. There's a backstory to it too, which
apparently can be found in poems in the comments of the related
wowhead pages. Details include raccoons in the nearby hut and a
grave behind it.
And finally, started working towards the next pet.. the really
secret pet, Baa'l. That starts with a note on top of the
building that houses Uldir, and then has you visiting small pebbles
all over Kul Tiras and Zandalar, including way out in fatigue zone
in the ocean.
Fast swimming speed required, but that raft I mentioned earlier
should help quite a bit.
Oh! One more thing. Blizzcon virtual ticket rewards have been
announced, with stuff for all the games. For WoW this includes a
yeti pyjama transmog set, as well as 2 faction-specific murloc pets.
I almost bought it for the Sylvanas-pet (Gillvanas!) but decided
against it since I'd only be able to use it on my rarely-played
horde characters, and it doesn't work for the Classic one
And that's my report for the week!
