Annual report on the State of Valar Gaming

When is the 14th Anniversary?

    October 4, 2011. That's a Tuesday.

What happened worthy of an anniversary celebration?

We were founded October 4, 1997  in our current form by Eru-(Valar) with the able assistance of Manwe-(Valar). As the group became larger and included more areas, organization later passed to the Council of Mahanaxar. Some members helped the Council even as the Maiar and Free Peoples helped their brothers, the Valar, in the books. Eru-(Valar) set the vision of a haven from the unpleasantness ruining the Diablo 1 community by bringing together like-minded folk who were literate, courteous and wanted to actually play the game. He set the goal of literacy and similar ideals and tastes by requiring that members have completed reading the Lord of the Rings and liked it (It's hard to finish for people who don't like it!) Manwe-(Valar) set the ambience of friendly  light-heartedness, remembering that we are *playing a game* with other good folk. From there we went on as a co-operating, communicating unit into new games while working together to create a Tolkien Site as a service to all other fans of Tolkien's works.

Marathon Chat:

Where? AIM room (reachable also by Trillian and Pidgin) Valar Guild Meetingplace
When? Starting Sunday meeting Oct. 2, ending after the Sunday meeting Oct. 9, 2011.
Who? All members of any kind and guild-friends.
Doing what?  Guild members and guild-friends endeavor to keep our AIM meeting place continuously open or as near to it as possible from the Sunday meeting on October 2, 2011 through the Sunday meeting October 9. This is a way to participate in the anniversary nuttiness with other members even if you can't game or put up anything for the Tolkien Site. This is also a nifty way to see members from all parts of our pan-game or Tolkien Site only, international guild.
Participants spotted so far: Arien, Ar-Pharazon, Bombur, Eonwe, Fladrif, Galdor, Gilraen, Gwaihir, Menelvagor, and Varda.

We have a thread where you can say plan, report, or say things like "Yay 14th!" and "howdy".

    World of WarCraft:

    Oct. 4 at  7pm Eastern / 6pm Central:
We shot fireworks in World of Warcraft in a run to all major towns, including special effects given off by our characters with yells of "Happy 14th Anniversary, Valar Guild!". This was restricted to the Lothar server branch due to timing problems.
Participants: Eonwe, Eowyn, Sauron. Varda came to the first town. Eowyn and Sauron made fireworks.
Screenshots will be going up at the Games Site.

    Lord of the Rings Online:

This was a good time to wear party clothes (cosmetic system), play music (shared abc files, ask Miriel for a copy), and ride horses together. Hunter ports and captain summons helped travel.
    1pm Eastern (19:00 CET)
met at the kin house then went to Bree for playing music and shooting fireworks, some from the roof of the Prancing Pony!
Participants: Annael, Cirdan, Irmo, Miriel, Hurin, Ulmo, and Varda.
8pm Eastern met at Bree. This could be a good time to wear party clothes! Hunters can port (and captains can summon late-comers) to the main cities. A person will be picked to yell "Happy 14th Anniversary, Valar Guild!" and then we blast fireworks and jump to the next location.
Participants: Annael, Arien, Bofur (as Dagr), Cirdan, Gorlim, Hurin, Ulmo, and Varda.
For folks who couldn't come at the scheduled times (or forgot, would we do that?), they could solo or grab kin and guild-friends at a time of day that worked, collect fireworks from the kin house, and travel together to do the ka-boom.
