Sarujil (5:03:53 PM): looks like
VardaValar1 (5:04:46 PM): Aiya
Sarujil (5:04:52 PM): welcome varda
Sarujil (5:05:05 PM): not shaping up to be much of a meeting yet
Eonwe Valar (5:05:06 PM): Heya
VardaValar1 (5:05:20 PM): I have to send invites, One sec
Eonwe Valar (5:05:46 PM): Got about 8 other people, none of them accepted.
Eonwe Valar (5:05:58 PM): *Got invites sent to
AriehnV (5:06:18 PM): Aiya all
Eonwe Valar (5:06:29 PM): Heya
Sarujil (5:06:36 PM): hi arien
AriehnV (5:06:47 PM): how are you ?
VardaValar1 (5:06:56 PM): Aiya : )
Eonwe Valar (5:07:11 PM): Not too bad.
AriehnV (5:07:47 PM): aaah weel , that does sound not convincing to my ears
VardaValar1 (5:08:16 PM): I'm inviting people who are playing in LotRO to come in, not too hopeful that they will enter
VardaValar1 (5:08:31 PM): but they are willing to have me pass their comments on,
VardaValar1 (5:09:21 PM): Dirhavel, Irmo, Miriel, Gorlim
VardaValar1 (5:09:55 PM): Any idea what happened to the people who used to come?
VardaValar1 (5:10:19 PM): Ar-Pharazon is on vacation
Eonwe Valar (5:10:30 PM): Pharazon is still an Vacation I assume, Menelvagor I have no idea except I think I remember him saying he's been busy lately.
AriehnV (5:10:34 PM): Calaron is still on vacaton and Menelvagor i dont know .. he said he was helping to build something for a pal yesterday
AriehnV (5:10:48 PM): so he might have gone back there
VardaValar1 (5:11:15 PM): Okies, The ones of us with jobs showed up.
VardaValar1 (5:11:26 PM): So we can do this pretty quickly
top

VardaValar1 (5:11:40 PM): Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar (5:11:44 PM): Everyone else that usually comes to meetings have invitations to the channel sitting and waiting for them to accept.
VardaValar1 (5:12:16 PM): Thanks, Eonwe.
VardaValar1 (5:12:25 PM): Most of mine timed out on this fancy new AIM
VardaValar1 (5:12:33 PM): Membership:
VardaValar1 (5:13:01 PM): I suggest that those of us who are Maia and Vala concentrate on recruiting
VardaValar1 (5:13:11 PM): The website used to do it for us
VardaValar1 (5:13:22 PM): Now we need to drag ourselves back into the trenches
VardaValar1 (5:13:46 PM): I was considering a form on the Joining section that might make it simpler.
VardaValar1 (5:14:03 PM): I suspect our joining process is a bit confusing.
AriehnV (5:14:05 PM): I wish it was so easy on Argent Dawn, Varda , they are somehow restistant to what the valar guild is about
VardaValar1 (5:14:30 PM): Feel free to recruit on LotRO then : )
VardaValar1 (5:15:09 PM): Best way has been to play with people and then talk to the good ones about Tolkien, See who bites.
VardaValar1 (5:15:38 PM): Although they are in other kinships, they may be willing to put an alt in ours.
VardaValar1 (5:15:55 PM): Many people enjoy Tolkien's works
VardaValar1 (5:16:09 PM): Next thing is to make the guild a fun place to be.
VardaValar1 (5:16:43 PM): It seems like a "job" helps people find a niche, perhaps?
AriehnV (5:17:06 PM): how do you mean?
VardaValar1 (5:17:24 PM): Doing a transcript, or knowing they may have to chair a meeting
VardaValar1 (5:17:34 PM): or being needed for a Tolkien Site project
VardaValar1 (5:17:52 PM): Helping train others in gaming
VardaValar1 (5:18:17 PM): Anc here might be really good at helping us learn to do Conjunctions well in LotRO, for instance
VardaValar1 (5:18:33 PM): He's a burglar and experienced all the way through Carn Dum
VardaValar1 (5:18:57 PM): He can set up a conjunction and the rest of us can learn to do various ones, practice them.
VardaValar1 (5:19:07 PM): What other jobs might you suggest?
VardaValar1 (5:19:57 PM): Perhaps coming on at certain times regularly to help have someone available.
VardaValar1 (5:20:18 PM): I managed to make an Ithilien group before Valar just by coming in the same time every day.
VardaValar1 (5:20:49 PM): That has been incredibly difficult for me for a long time, as I no longer have a comp just for me.
VardaValar1 (5:21:20 PM): So if several of us try to make that time a usual time, we might work it.
VardaValar1 (5:21:36 PM): That gives the snowflake something to form around.
VardaValar1 (5:21:51 PM): It worked for Irmo's high-end LotRO group
AriehnV (5:22:11 PM): well i dont think i can make every day at the same time .. especially since i am fairly eager to get a certain paladin back up to the outlands .. but every second day at say 9.00 pm of our time .. that might be feasible
VardaValar1 (5:22:24 PM): 9pm EDT?
VardaValar1 (5:22:39 PM): Helps to translate everything to Eastern
VardaValar1 (5:22:56 PM): I don't think any of us here are in EDT
VardaValar1 (5:23:14 PM): That would be peachy, Arien
AriehnV (5:23:26 PM): well that would be 3.00 pm of yjour time
VardaValar1 (5:23:27 PM): Don't kill yourself doing it, but just in the general area
VardaValar1 (5:23:45 PM): You should see Irmo and Miriel a good bit then
VardaValar1 (5:24:37 PM): I might be able to help with later times, We have a group that comes on after work or after supper or insomniacs
VardaValar1 (5:24:53 PM): I tend to be all over the clock
AriehnV (5:24:56 PM): on my days off i might make it a bit longer
VardaValar1 (5:25:02 PM): cool : )
VardaValar1 (5:25:09 PM): All of us here play LotRO
Eonwe Valar (5:26:12 PM): I tend to play later at night when I do, since that is the least laggy time for me. Sometimes I catch Miriel on, and maybe every now and then some others.
VardaValar1 (5:26:38 PM): Do you still have extreme difficulty when grouping, Eonwe?
VardaValar1 (5:26:55 PM): Irmo and Miriel say they come around 2-6pm
VardaValar1 (5:27:06 PM): Miriel likes 4am, nice and quiet
VardaValar1 (5:27:16 PM): Dirhavel says random until he finds work
Eonwe Valar (5:27:27 PM): One or two people might be ok. I'm a bit iffy on if I could pull off a 5-man group.
VardaValar1 (5:27:54 PM): Two is a good way to play. Lot of stuff works very well with a pair
AriehnV (5:28:33 PM): i worked with Muzgashh a couple of times
Eonwe Valar (5:28:46 PM): I got a couple of quests done with the help of Luinloke, Dracxil's Minstrel, last night, before he got hit by a very bad lag spike.
VardaValar1 (5:29:16 PM): Muzgash/Nidryt does not seem to have been on this week
VardaValar1 (5:29:34 PM): Eonwe, about when is "late at night"?
Eonwe Valar (5:30:06 PM): Generally, about midnight to 4am.
AriehnV (5:30:29 PM): usually that would be when i am on for a qukck log
VardaValar1 (5:31:14 PM): Thanks, passing it on
Eonwe Valar (5:32:15 PM): Of course, I can't always be on during this time. At some point I'm going to have to sleep :}
AriehnV (5:32:32 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (5:32:56 PM): Please get sleep : )
VardaValar1 (5:33:05 PM): I'm trying to figure it all out
VardaValar1 (5:33:24 PM): Maybe we need a forum list for guild-friends? : )
AriehnV (5:33:34 PM): it might be an idea yes
VardaValar1 (5:33:41 PM): That could be murder unless they help with it more than our own guild does
VardaValar1 (5:34:24 PM): Relatives, friends who often play with us but will never make it through reading LotR : )
Eonwe Valar (5:34:28 PM): It's a shame we can't have an auxillary channel in LotRO, like we do in WoW.
VardaValar1 (5:34:35 PM): Still lobbying for it
VardaValar1 (5:34:53 PM): Also for notes on friends and kinship, which may be coming in the future
VardaValar1 (5:35:08 PM): We are supposed to be getting guild housing and vault.
VardaValar1 (5:35:26 PM): They are already "breaking ground" for it south of Bree
Eonwe Valar (5:35:35 PM): I hope those notes come soon. They make updating the Player Tables so much easier, I assure you.
VardaValar1 (5:35:44 PM): I very well understand
VardaValar1 (5:36:00 PM): I still have a batch of people that I don't know who are. Aeronwy for instance
VardaValar1 (5:36:26 PM): Ok, we've done about all we can think of on that problem for the moment : )
Eonwe Valar (5:36:27 PM): Perhaps Irmo, Oromë, or Melkor know?
VardaValar1 (5:36:32 PM): I asked them
Eonwe Valar (5:36:46 PM): If they don't even show up, might consider dropping them?
VardaValar1 (5:37:02 PM): Aeronwy was on recently, but I was not on at the same time.
VardaValar1 (5:37:05 PM): Others too
Eonwe Valar (5:37:10 PM): Ok
Sarujil (5:37:12 PM): send them a letter in game
VardaValar1 (5:37:17 PM): Good plan! Thanks
Eonwe Valar (5:37:29 PM): A letter in game would be a good idea, aye Ancalagon.
VardaValar1 (5:37:52 PM): You know it's a good idea when you go /smackhead
Sarujil (5:37:58 PM): heh
top

VardaValar1 (5:38:10 PM): Web:
VardaValar1 (5:38:34 PM): Arveleg sent a batch of articles that I just saw before the meeting in my email
[Places: Bar-en-Nibin-noeg, Cabed-en-Aras, Celebros, and Crossings of Teiglin.]
VardaValar1 (5:38:46 PM): He's also helping out by jumping into the huge timeline project
VardaValar1 (5:39:04 PM): He also sent suggestions for more picture links to be added
VardaValar1 (5:39:29 PM): We have links to Ted Nasmith's already, but he keeps putting out more
VardaValar1 (5:39:33 PM): You might enjoy browsing
VardaValar1 (5:39:51 PM): http://www.tednasmith.com/tolkien.html
VardaValar1 (5:40:35 PM): My usual computer for doing the Valar pages was DOA (Dead on Arrival) at the computer shop
VardaValar1 (5:40:55 PM): Sauron and I are trying to put together a combination from two machines, but it is refusing to boot up
VardaValar1 (5:41:00 PM): I will muddle through
VardaValar1 (5:41:21 PM): The Timeline project is already started with the Events page
VardaValar1 (5:41:26 PM): for the Tolkien Site
VardaValar1 (5:41:51 PM): Arveleg wants to put in every date or date range we can find from the books.
VardaValar1 (5:42:36 PM): I was trying to do a Kings project so one could start with a king, read history for his time, and jump into every article link associated with it.
VardaValar1 (5:42:54 PM): Amillo/Elatan rigged his site to do that from a geneology setup
VardaValar1 (5:43:24 PM): I am also trying to rig it so families are linked and everything else I can think up
VardaValar1 (5:43:56 PM): If anyone would like to help close some of the gaps in the Kings project, that would be a huge help
VardaValar1 (5:44:09 PM): An article on a King who is not yet listed gets us started.
VardaValar1 (5:44:33 PM): Hit an article on the first king, that links to the second king, etc
VardaValar1 (5:44:47 PM): That also is linked to the Events page
VardaValar1 (5:44:57 PM): which we may be calling a Timeline page
VardaValar1 (5:45:24 PM): Arveleg wants to write all the events out in one long string (maybe in page strings)
VardaValar1 (5:45:53 PM): I had started to do that long ago but it was too much for one person as scattered across so many projects as I was
VardaValar1 (5:46:10 PM): Ok, any other web news?
top

VardaValar1 (5:46:23 PM): Gaming News:
VardaValar1 (5:46:35 PM): Any games played besides LotRO or WoW?
AriehnV (5:46:54 PM): *shakes head*
VardaValar1 (5:47:11 PM): Me either : )
Eonwe Valar (5:47:24 PM): I played a little bit of Single-Player BFME2.
VardaValar1 (5:47:26 PM): Everyone have the new Harry Potter book?
VardaValar1 (5:47:33 PM): Thanks, Eonwe
Eonwe Valar (5:47:35 PM): Not I.
Sarujil (5:47:39 PM): i just got it today
VardaValar1 (5:47:42 PM): nice
VardaValar1 (5:47:52 PM): Sauron and I picked it up last night
AriehnV (5:47:56 PM): nor me  alas
AriehnV (5:48:07 PM): we sell it for ten quidditch
VardaValar1 (5:48:10 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (5:48:31 PM): WoW report from Argent Dawn, Arien?
AriehnV (5:49:33 PM): yes a small one : Aeremethar, Valandil's paladin joined young Urwendi on an epic journey through Azeroth to help her find some material for Master Stilwell
VardaValar1 (5:49:55 PM): Good to hear Valandil is still going : )
AriehnV (5:50:14 PM): oh he is  going great
VardaValar1 (5:50:33 PM): Good to hear : )
AriehnV (5:51:15 PM): together the two knights of the silverhand visited the Ogres in Loch Modan, had a quick jump into the stables of Shadowfang keep and a blitz on Blackfathom Deep
AriehnV (5:52:00 PM): Urwendi found later on a group for the wood from the goblins of Deadmines so she had the material complete
AriehnV (5:52:10 PM): this endeth my report
VardaValar1 (5:52:16 PM): Thank you Arien!
AriehnV (5:52:53 PM): (just a qick add , that she is 27 now  I am fairly proud of her)
VardaValar1 (5:53:13 PM): Nice!
VardaValar1 (5:53:29 PM): Eonwe, do you have a WoW Lothar report?
VardaValar1 (5:53:56 PM): (Irmo said he might be helping on the Kings project)
Eonwe Valar (5:54:45 PM): Unfortunately, no. I spent Friday helping a friend move into his new apartment, and when I got back, while I made an attempt to play on Lothar, I was just too tired to stay long. No one was on when I came in.
Eonwe Valar (5:55:31 PM): About all I did was get some ravager meat fto level up cooking.
Eonwe Valar (5:55:51 PM): still a couple points shy of where I need to be.
VardaValar1 (5:56:04 PM): You got on at all after that? Impressive
VardaValar1 (5:57:33 PM): My family has been gaming on Lothar a good bit during the week
VardaValar1 (5:57:56 PM): When Fangorn is home, he plays and often brings a group of the Laytonrim with him
VardaValar1 (5:58:14 PM): If we can get this combo comp to work, we can come in four at a time!
VardaValar1 (5:58:24 PM): in WoW
VardaValar1 (5:59:47 PM):Uldaman night got wiped out when a batch of us were still gaming in Lothar and never made the switch.
VardaValar1 (6:00:03 PM): Do you have any more info on Uldaman Eonwe?
Eonwe Valar (6:00:20 PM): Afraid not.
VardaValar1 (6:00:35 PM): Elwing enjoys Uldaman more than Lothar
VardaValar1 (6:00:51 PM): She's also been working on a string of stories for us, All at the same time. : )
Eonwe Valar (6:01:13 PM): Hehe
VardaValar1 (6:01:25 PM): She and I have fun looking at them, but we aren't putting them up until complete
VardaValar1 (6:01:36 PM): That lets her go back and change things, Much more polished
VardaValar1 (6:02:08 PM): Sorry, got back to Web
VardaValar1 (6:02:20 PM): LotRO this week, we had
VardaValar1 (6:02:32 PM): Ancalagon, Angrod, Arien, Beleg, Dirhavel, Dis, Elrond, Eonwe,
VardaValar1 (6:02:43 PM): Finduilas, Gorlim, Irmo, Melkor, Merry, Miriel, Orome, Varda
VardaValar1 (6:02:52 PM): and mysterious Aeronwy
VardaValar1 (6:03:15 PM): Right now we have Irmo, Miriel, Dirhavel, and myself on LotRO
VardaValar1 (6:03:41 PM): Except Dirhavel just crashed again. Poor guy
top

VardaValar1 (6:03:47 PM): Tolkien!
VardaValar1 (6:04:16 PM): I may have already drowned you guys in Tolkien during Web : )
VardaValar1 (6:04:27 PM): Would any of you like to call it here?
AriehnV (6:04:58 PM): i would like to add something i wanted to tell ye guys about a book before ye might do that
AriehnV (6:05:25 PM): strangely it is not connected with Lotro but ... yes that game that other one
VardaValar1 (6:06:15 PM): Sure. We can call it aftermeeting if it's completely nothing to do with Tolkien or guild gaming
AriehnV (6:06:35 PM): eonwe?
AriehnV (6:07:29 PM): The book is called *Rise of the horde "
Eonwe Valar (6:07:46 PM): Yes?
AriehnV (6:08:01 PM): would you like to call it aftermeeting before i go on?
Eonwe Valar (6:09:00 PM): Sure.
AriehnV (6:09:10 PM): thank you
[Note: After-meeting got into Tolkien talk]

After-meeting:
VardaValar1 (6:09:48 PM): I'll be in LotRO after the meeting if you guys want to come in afterwards and after dinner : )
AriehnV (6:10:00 PM): it is one of the most fascinating stories i read so far  . I ll be in in a bit
AriehnV (6:11:15 PM): Chriestie golden is the author  Thrall tells the story of his father durotan and his Friend, Orgrim Doomhammer , a blackrock orc . something that has never been done between two different orc clans

AriehnV (6:12:09 PM): the story is that of the old horde , what they were about and the burning legion ..a nnd about Draenor
AriehnV (6:12:38 PM): I thought it might be of interest
VardaValar1 (6:12:50 PM): Well written?
AriehnV (6:12:57 PM): very well written indeed
VardaValar1 (6:13:14 PM): Thanks. We'll have to look around for it then. : )
AriehnV (6:13:16 PM): the guy feels for those he writes about ,,, a rare gift
VardaValar1 (6:13:39 PM): People who don't feel for whom they are writing about need to try again. : )
AriehnV (6:14:20 PM): just that it takes me usually about up to an hour to get back into reality after reading in it speaks for itself hehe
VardaValar1 (6:14:28 PM): Nice : )
AriehnV (6:14:48 PM): ok then guys see ye around
VardaValar1 (6:15:05 PM): Hope to see you in LotRO : )
VardaValar1 (6:15:08 PM): At least to chat
VardaValar1 (6:15:17 PM): Thanks for the tip on the book!
Eonwe Valar (6:15:22 PM): Take care and have fun.
AriehnV (6:15:26 PM): I will be .. our worst fears have tbgecome true
AriehnV (6:15:37 PM): the one ring has revealed itself ..
VardaValar1 (6:16:05 PM): No! Surely it was lost in the sea by now!
AriehnV (6:16:26 PM): hehe  see ye there Namerie!
VardaValar1 (6:16:35 PM): I'm in Evendim but can port around
VardaValar1 (6:16:41 PM): Cool. See you : )
Eonwe Valar (6:18:06 PM): Heya Fladrif
Fladrifv (6:18:12 PM): Hey all
Fladrifv (6:18:26 PM): why do I only see 4 people?
Eonwe Valar (6:18:27 PM): Just missed the meeting.
Fladrifv (6:18:48 PM): .....grmblz I see
Fladrifv (6:19:00 PM): had a computer crash so my time was off
VardaValar1 (6:19:44 PM): back
VardaValar1 (6:19:53 PM): Aiya Flad
VardaValar1 (6:20:08 PM): Meeting is over, but feel free to put in your two bits anyway : )
VardaValar1 (6:20:22 PM): Arien just came onto LotRO with me and some others
Fladrifv (6:21:05 PM): I see, I switched back to the strategy games :)
VardaValar1 (6:21:08 PM): So how do we get you in here too? : )
VardaValar1 (6:21:18 PM): Aye, Have to give you a break
VardaValar1 (6:21:25 PM): Arien says hi!
Fladrifv (6:21:37 PM): say hello back :)
VardaValar1 (6:21:53 PM): Done : )
Fladrifv (6:22:06 PM): I need a game that is free to play, no monthly fees
Fladrifv (6:22:45 PM): cant they make an opensource morpg
VardaValar1 (6:23:12 PM): I paid a lifetime fee. No monthly
Fladrifv (6:23:25 PM): :) didnt dare that
VardaValar1 (6:23:25 PM): Isn't Guild Wars like that?
Fladrifv (6:23:55 PM): Yes gw is one that is without monthly fee
VardaValar1 (6:23:56 PM): Too bad. The price has jumped a hundred bucks since I did it
Fladrifv (6:24:42 PM): I fear the lifetime is not active for the expansions or some sort of trick :)
VardaValar1 (6:24:55 PM): It is
Eonwe Valar (6:25:13 PM): There used to be an MMORPG way back in the day called Graal. Very simple graphics but it was free at the time. Don't know if it even exists at this point.
VardaValar1 (6:25:15 PM): Oh, But you may have the usual one-time fee for any expansion like the others
VardaValar1 (6:25:30 PM): But the last expansion cost nothing
Fladrifv (6:29:50 PM): found some links to graal
VardaValar1 (6:30:28 PM): Like to put up the main one for the transcript?
VardaValar1 (6:35:52 PM): Could you put one of the url's in this transcript?
Eonwe Valar (6:36:11 PM): Looks like it still exists, using the same graphics.
Eonwe Valar (6:36:21 PM): http://www.graalonline.com/
Fladrifv (6:36:28 PM): only its paid nowadays
Fladrifv (6:36:38 PM): http://www.onrpg.com/games_categories/free.html
VardaValar1 (6:36:42 PM): ohh, I'm sorry
Fladrifv (6:36:45 PM): some free rpgs :)
Fladrifv (6:36:59 PM): think I will test them all
Eonwe Valar (6:37:00 PM): Pretty sure that also was the url way back. Page still alive.
VardaValar1 (6:37:11 PM): hehe - test away
Eonwe Valar (6:37:14 PM): Aye, but you can try it for free.
Eonwe Valar (6:37:18 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (6:37:25 PM): Let us know how they are
VardaValar1 (6:37:33 PM): Maybe reviews for the Games page
Eonwe Valar (6:37:39 PM): Graal Online used to let you create your own zones as well.
Fladrifv (6:37:50 PM): it still is as I see now
Eonwe Valar (6:38:00 PM): Was kind of fun messing around with the stuff.
Eonwe Valar (6:38:19 PM): Reviews for the Games Page would be good :}
Fladrifv (6:38:35 PM): ok Im up for that
Fladrifv (6:38:56 PM): will take some time dont have much but will try to try all the free morpgs and review them shortly
VardaValar1 (6:39:09 PM): One review at a time : )
Fladrifv (6:39:20 PM): hehe
Fladrifv (6:39:30 PM): yes that is what I ment :)
VardaValar1 (6:45:28 PM): O good
VardaValar1 (6:45:45 PM): Ancalagon just popped into LotRO with us
Eonwe Valar (6:50:05 PM): Heya Glorfindel
VardaValar1 (6:50:15 PM): Aiya Glorfindel!
VardaValar1 (6:50:40 PM): Welcome to After-meeting
Glorfindel VG (6:50:50 PM): hello!
Glorfindel VG (6:51:04 PM): after-meeting?
Glorfindel VG (6:51:06 PM): aww
Glorfindel VG (6:51:22 PM): I always thought tolkien chat started around 4
Glorfindel VG (6:51:30 PM): pst that is
VardaValar1 (6:51:35 PM): The meeting starts 5pm EDT
VardaValar1 (6:51:54 PM): Not if only a few come. Business gets done fast.
VardaValar1 (6:52:04 PM): Did you have a subject? : )
Glorfindel VG (6:53:05 PM): not exactly, but i was hoping to join in the chat
VardaValar1 (6:54:13 PM): Good deal
Fladrifv (6:54:38 PM): welcome to the world of free stuff.... login pages fail and so on :)
Eonwe Valar (6:56:11 PM): Hehe, even if it's free it shouldn't be junk. How are you going to convince your target consumers to spend their money on what you want to sell them if you can't even get the free stuff right?
Fladrifv (6:57:08 PM): by stating that only bad things are given away ;)
Fladrifv (6:57:15 PM): for free
VardaValar1 (6:57:22 PM): heh
VardaValar1 (6:57:35 PM): So, Glorfindel, the Golden-haired!
VardaValar1 (6:57:41 PM): Why didn't you go with Frodo?
Sarujil (7:03:07 PM): *cough*
VardaValar1 (7:03:42 PM): Bless you : )
VardaValar1 (7:14:41 PM): http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/k/kings/kingsMan.htm
VardaValar1 (7:15:03 PM): That can be found from the page of Man or Events
VardaValar1 (7:15:22 PM): Anyway, the Frodo comment was to kick off a chat if you wanted to try it.
Glorfindel VG (7:22:01 PM): sorry, i was just watching this show on tv
Glorfindel VG (7:22:03 PM): hehe
Glorfindel VG (7:22:17 PM): i didnt go with frodo because...
Glorfindel VG (7:22:48 PM): gandalf thought it would be a better idea if those little pecks merry and pippin went instead
Glorfindel VG (7:23:05 PM): which was good news to me because i really didn't feel like going to mordor at the time
VardaValar1 (7:23:06 PM): Dropped for hobbit!
Glorfindel VG (7:23:46 PM): yes but I'll bet he regretted his decision when he first saw that balrog
Glorfindel VG (7:24:01 PM): he might have known an experienced balrog fighter like myself would be useful
VardaValar1 (7:24:25 PM): I suspect that the Balrog was a lot stronger than those of the time of Gondolin
Glorfindel VG (7:25:11 PM): yes but i could have been more assistance than pippin!
Glorfindel VG (7:25:54 PM): better yet, frodo should have just given the ring of power to me
VardaValar1 (7:26:04 PM): Maybe so. I suspect the second pair of hobbits made a good distraction from the Ringbearers though
Sarujil (7:26:06 PM): elrond said he didnt really think it would be a good idea to send elf-lords because they would draw the attention of the enemy
Glorfindel VG (7:26:11 PM): i could find a use for it ;-)
Sarujil (7:26:25 PM): although, i think they did a fair job of luring the enemy on their own
VardaValar1 (7:26:31 PM): I'll bet you could Defend Rivendell, make a proper king for Middle-earth...
Glorfindel VG (7:26:46 PM): yes indeed
Glorfindel VG (7:27:27 PM): a fine master of middle earth i could have been
Eonwe Valar (7:27:48 PM): Except Glorfindel doesn't have the proper pedigree.
Glorfindel VG (7:27:49 PM): not like that fool boromir
Glorfindel VG (7:27:52 PM): lol
VardaValar1 (7:28:11 PM): The Ring could bypass that
VardaValar1 (7:28:25 PM): Beginning to see why you didn't go...
Eonwe Valar (7:28:29 PM): Elrond is the rightful High-King of the Noldor :}
VardaValar1 (7:30:23 PM): Question in the LotRO group: "Who told Aragorn he should take the Paths of the Dead?"
VardaValar1 (7:31:33 PM): They got that Mirkwood elf in the group. Why him instead of Glorfindel?
Glorfindel VG (7:32:47 PM): well somebody needed to be there to keep that dwarf in order
Glorfindel VG (7:33:10 PM): and i will have no dealings with dwarves
VardaValar1 (7:33:44 PM): Aragorn couldn't handle the Dwarf?
Glorfindel VG (7:34:04 PM): aragorn is weak
Glorfindel VG (7:34:08 PM): men are weak
VardaValar1 (7:34:24 PM): So you got that from movie Elrond?
Glorfindel VG (7:34:30 PM): lol, why glorfindel the antogonist all of the sudden i dont know
Glorfindel VG (7:35:07 PM): no elrond got that from me
Glorfindel VG (7:35:18 PM): i've been saying men are weak long before elrond was born
VardaValar1 (7:35:45 PM): So it's your fault!
Eonwe Valar (7:35:48 PM): Actually, a Noldo would be more likely to get along with a Dwarf.
Eonwe Valar (7:36:06 PM): hehe, ok, I see what's going on here now.
Eonwe Valar (7:36:15 PM): Glorfindel has been corrupted! :}
VardaValar1 (7:36:28 PM): hehe
Glorfindel VG (7:36:37 PM): glorfindel's sudden lust for the ring has corrupted him
VardaValar1 (7:37:13 PM): Mirkwood elves have been resisting Dol Guldur a long time, and are guerrrilla fighters.
Glorfindel VG (7:37:57 PM): elrond would have more reason to have a grudge against the dwarves then glorfindel
Glorfindel VG (7:38:30 PM): i suppose
Eonwe Valar (7:44:02 PM): Why would that be?
Fladrifv (7:44:16 PM): the ent listen to the stories of the young and old ones and falls asleep
Fladrifv (7:44:49 PM): namarie
Eonwe Valar (7:45:08 PM): Sleep well :}
Glorfindel VG (7:48:41 PM): here's an idea:   numenor = the lost city of atlantis
Glorfindel VG (7:49:27 PM): or tolkien's attempt to explain it anyhow
VardaValar1 (7:50:03 PM): Pardon the crash
Eonwe Valar (7:51:11 PM): Well, one of Numenor's names was Atalantë :}
Eonwe Valar (7:51:14 PM): Wb Varda :}
VardaValar1 (7:51:48 PM): sure hope you guys are saving this
Eonwe Valar (7:52:00 PM): I am :}
Glorfindel VG (7:52:06 PM): atalante
Glorfindel VG (7:52:07 PM): yes
VardaValar1 (7:52:08 PM): I can quilt it together
Glorfindel VG (7:52:26 PM): hmm thats interesting
Sarujil (7:52:59 PM): ive got the whole thing
VardaValar1 (7:53:00 PM): argh
Glorfindel VG (7:53:17 PM): it makes sense doesnt it?
Eonwe Valar (7:55:16 PM): Atalantë is the Eldarin translation of Akallabeth, in English "The Downfallen."
Eonwe Valar (7:56:28 PM): Welcome back once more :}
Eonwe Valar (7:56:37 PM): And yes, it does make sense :}
Sarujil (7:56:38 PM): so its only Atlantis after it sinks
Eonwe Valar (7:59:03 PM): Well, for Tolkien's purposes it gains the name Atalantë when it is lost, aye.
VardaValar1 (8:09:44 PM): So, when was the first time Aragorn heard he should go to the Paths of the Dead?
Sarujil (8:11:07 PM): anybody?
VardaValar1 (8:11:47 PM): Anyone can answer sure
Glorfindel VG (8:11:54 PM): when elrond rode to his camp to tell him so :P
Sarujil (8:12:08 PM): lets let the suspense build a bit more
VardaValar1 (8:12:21 PM): You want us to color your hair green, Glorfy?
Glorfindel VG (8:12:33 PM): heheehe
Sarujil (8:12:48 PM): you jacksonite you :/
Glorfindel VG (8:13:18 PM): lol
Glorfindel VG (8:14:07 PM): was it in a dream or vision
Glorfindel VG (8:14:11 PM): i cant recall for some reason
Glorfindel VG (8:14:35 PM): or something
Glorfindel VG (8:15:29 PM): or did gandalf tell him to do it?
VardaValar1 (8:15:42 PM): Gandalf, always his fault.
Sarujil (8:16:11 PM): not exactly Gandalf
VardaValar1 (8:16:27 PM): but
VardaValar1 (8:16:46 PM): I suspect Aragorn would have learned the words of Malbeth the Seer in his studies
VardaValar1 (8:17:07 PM): It may not have made sense to him the first time he saw it
Sarujil (8:17:08 PM): he probably knew about it long before the lotr started
VardaValar1 (8:17:41 PM): The prophecy was made in the days of Arvedui Last-king
Sarujil (8:17:42 PM): probably even suspected he'd have to take that way eventually. but the first time it was mentioned in the lotr was...
Glorfindel VG (8:18:29 PM): well theres only 4 people here and if you know it sarujil, i can be sure varda and eonwe know it too
Glorfindel VG (8:18:34 PM): so might as well just spill it
Glorfindel VG (8:19:05 PM): was it after he looked in the palantir he came to the decision to take the paths
Glorfindel VG (8:19:13 PM): im not remembering for some reason
Sarujil (8:19:16 PM): ok ok Galadriel sent him a message via Gandalf's reappearance
Glorfindel VG (8:20:15 PM): curse the confusion the jacksonites have brought about
VardaValar1 (8:20:29 PM): Gives us handy questions for entry though
Sarujil (8:21:00 PM): Elrond also sent him a message about the Paths with his sons, but that was after Galadriel's message
Sarujil (8:22:39 PM): oh if you guys like trivia ... check out Ancalagon's nifty riddle on the Valar Guild forums
VardaValar1 (8:22:57 PM): hehe - that is a good one
VardaValar1 (8:23:24 PM): We have both LotR and Sil trivia threads. Plus discussion threads taken from Tolkien chat topics
http://valarguild.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=tolkiendiscussions
Sarujil (8:23:27 PM): you figured it out yet varda?
VardaValar1 (8:23:34 PM): Not really no
Sarujil (8:23:42 PM): not really? hehe
VardaValar1 (8:23:45 PM): The Discussion topics weren't meant to be ignored
VardaValar1 (8:24:00 PM): No feet...
Glorfindel VG (8:25:56 PM): Here's the next question, though not as eloquent :}What craft alone out of all crafts is it said the Dwarves were never outmatched?
Glorfindel VG (8:26:00 PM): from eonew
Glorfindel VG (8:26:07 PM): was it tempering metal?
Glorfindel VG (8:26:09 PM): mining?
Glorfindel VG (8:26:22 PM): i dont want to answer it wrong and then ask a new question lol
VardaValar1 (8:26:56 PM): You will be told if you are right and can ask the next question, so no problem
Sarujil (8:27:23 PM): the silmarillion trivia allows use of the book too doesnt it?
Eonwe Valar (8:27:40 PM): Only if it takes too long to answer, same as the LotR thread.
VardaValar1 (8:28:01 PM): Aye, Sil allows book use
Eonwe Valar (8:28:15 PM): I think I know the answer to the LotR thread, but want to give a bit for others to have a chance to answer :}
VardaValar1 (8:28:19 PM): LotR I thought didnt get to use the book?
Sarujil (8:28:50 PM): go ahead and take a stab Eonwe
Eonwe Valar (8:28:52 PM): I thought neither got to use the book unless it took a long time or too many guesses to get the right answer.
Eonwe Valar (8:29:06 PM): Time for me to recheck that.
VardaValar1 (8:30:00 PM): If no correct answer is forthcoming, the stumper is allowed to ask a new question.
VardaValar1 (8:30:10 PM): No stumping should occur because you may use the Silmarillion
VardaValar1 (8:30:23 PM): Quotes are welcome especially if they include chapter references. Discussion is also welcome.
VardaValar1 (8:30:33 PM): copy/pasting off Sil thread starter
Sarujil (8:30:39 PM): i at least want someone to attempt answering my riddle before i declare everyone stumped
VardaValar1 (8:31:26 PM): We can still stump people even with the book
Sarujil (8:32:09 PM): well it seemed to me that everyone was getting all the answers too easily, so i tried to make my questions harder to figure out  I dont want them to be impossible, though
Eonwe Valar (8:32:49 PM): Very well, I stand corected. Thank you, Varda :}
Eonwe Valar (8:32:58 PM): *corrected
Eonwe Valar (8:33:27 PM): Then I expect an answer to my Sil question shortly, especially since anyone at the meeting last week should've seen our discussion about Dwarves.
VardaValar1 (8:33:30 PM): I do try to figure without the book first though
Eonwe Valar (8:33:38 PM): :}
Sarujil (8:34:00 PM): i do too, usually
Glorfindel VG (8:34:18 PM): no man am i and no man is me
Sarujil (8:34:20 PM): and most of the time i try to wait for my turn in the rotation before i answer another question, so i dont hog the podium
Glorfindel VG (8:34:38 PM): are you ar pharazon in disguise
Eonwe Valar (8:34:43 PM): Same. I try to figure it out without looking in the book. If I have to resort to the book, I give as much time as possible for someone who remembers it legitimately to take a crack at it.
Sarujil (8:34:48 PM): no im Ancalagon in disguise
Glorfindel VG (8:35:11 PM): your riddle has me baffled
Sarujil (8:35:28 PM): we could all go through it line by line til you get it hehe
Eonwe Valar (8:35:44 PM): I think we need a riddle section for the Tolkien site. That one was pretty good.
Eonwe Valar (8:35:51 PM): *riddles section
Glorfindel VG (8:35:57 PM): and but for the birds, alone
Sarujil (8:36:11 PM): its only good if it doesnt turn out to be too esoteric or ambiguous to be solvable
Eonwe Valar (8:36:12 PM): Not to give you more work, Varda :}
Glorfindel VG (8:36:54 PM): two arms ever embrace me
VardaValar1 (8:37:17 PM): The LotR thread doesn't say you can use the book, just the Sil
Sarujil (8:37:25 PM): feel free to discuss here amongst the group, its perfectly fine by me
VardaValar1 (8:37:29 PM): We also have some riddles in the poetry section
VardaValar1 (8:37:38 PM): Eru made a batch of them
Glorfindel VG (8:37:52 PM): its not ulmo of course is it
Sarujil (8:38:07 PM): no...
VardaValar1 (8:38:36 PM): Just go see the poetry section
VardaValar1 (8:38:53 PM): If we get enough riddles, I can make a riddle section
Sarujil (8:39:22 PM): i plan to make all my future questions in the form of riddles, so prepare your thinking caps
Eonwe Valar (8:39:40 PM): hehe
Glorfindel VG (8:39:45 PM): two arms ever embrace me
VardaValar1 (8:39:47 PM): May I grab them for a riddle section, and should I link it to the Quiz section?
Eonwe Valar (8:39:54 PM): Your question is answered to the best of my knowledge.
Glorfindel VG (8:39:54 PM): i cant figure out what that could be
Glorfindel VG (8:40:49 PM): could it be tol brandir?
Sarujil (8:41:11 PM): thats correct. Eonwe posted that on the boards just now. Nice job both of you
Glorfindel VG (8:41:32 PM): lol i know i stole his answer :)
Sarujil (8:41:39 PM): now, as a side question, what was the other name for Tol Brandir?
Eonwe Valar (8:41:40 PM): Yay :} Thanks :}
VardaValar1 (8:42:06 PM): Eonwe, your question is also answered
Eonwe Valar (8:42:23 PM): Checking now :}
Sarujil (8:42:31 PM): so how long did it take you to come up with the answer eonwe?
Eonwe Valar (8:43:32 PM): Hmm, I guess not too long after I read it.
Glorfindel VG (8:44:13 PM): tindrock
Eonwe Valar (8:44:16 PM): I guess I read it not too long after you posted it.
Sarujil (8:44:22 PM): yes the tindrock
Eonwe Valar (8:44:38 PM): Congrats GLorfindel :} I didn't remember that one :}
Glorfindel VG (8:44:48 PM): i had to cheat and look it up though :(
Sarujil (8:44:58 PM): although, its *technically* not in between the pillars of the Argonath  its a bit farther south
Eonwe Valar (8:45:03 PM): Not quite the correct answer, Varda :}
Eonwe Valar (8:46:19 PM): It was a specific craft mentioned, not general crafts.
Sarujil (8:46:28 PM): Tol Brandir is situated between the hills of Amon Hen and Amon Lhaw
VardaValar1 (8:46:30 PM): okies
VardaValar1 (8:46:41 PM): Fangorn is on the phone with me
VardaValar1 (8:46:53 PM): He says hi to the group from his cell phone
Eonwe Valar (8:47:00 PM): Heya to Fangorn :}
Sarujil (8:47:01 PM): hi fangy!
Sarujil (8:50:14 PM): Well Glorfindel, we'd be ecstatic to have you as a regular of the trivia threads
Glorfindel VG (8:51:02 PM): alrighty I think i will
Glorfindel VG (8:51:13 PM): and eonwe's question is already driving into me
[Note: What craft alone out of all crafts is it said the Dwarves were never outmatched?]
Sarujil (8:51:20 PM): hehe
Glorfindel VG (8:51:29 PM): because i remember specifically reading that part some while back
Glorfindel VG (8:51:35 PM): but i just cant remember what it was
Sarujil (8:51:47 PM): me too
Glorfindel VG (8:53:05 PM): something about stone perhaps?
Sarujil (8:54:03 PM): Beardcraft, perhaps
Glorfindel VG (8:54:50 PM): true enough i have never heard any beards to outmatch the dwarf beards
Glorfindel VG (8:55:02 PM): well maybe treebeard
Eonwe Valar (8:55:50 PM): Welcome back :}
VardaValar1 (8:55:53 PM): Aiya
Glorfindel VG (8:56:00 PM): wait wait
Glorfindel VG (8:56:08 PM): i think im remembering someting
VardaValar1 (8:56:14 PM): Always a good sign
Glorfindel VG (9:00:42 PM): :)
Eonwe Valar (9:01:10 PM): Glorfindel is close.
Glorfindel VG (9:07:30 PM): did i have it closer earlier?
Glorfindel VG (9:07:38 PM): when i said tempering of steel?
Glorfindel VG (9:07:55 PM): thats kinda the picture im getting
Glorfindel VG (9:08:10 PM): the strong, but light armors they were able to make
Eonwe Valar (9:08:27 PM): Where did you say Tempering steel?
Glorfindel VG (9:08:31 PM): folding steal over and over again to make it thin yet exceptionally strong
Eonwe Valar (9:08:42 PM): Your answer on the trivia thread said metal working.
Glorfindel VG (9:08:43 PM): i asked you unnoficially in here about 20 mins ago
VardaValar1 (9:08:43 PM): refresh, Eonwe
VardaValar1 (9:08:54 PM): He has it after your post now
Eonwe Valar (9:09:14 PM): Sorry, I missed it then.
VardaValar1 (9:09:42 PM): Won't show if you're on the thread and a new post comes in unless you refresh/reload
Eonwe Valar (9:11:46 PM): All I see in the chat room log is stone and beardcraft.
Glorfindel VG (9:12:55 PM): from eonewGlorfindel VG: was it tempering metal?Glorfindel VG: mining?
Glorfindel VG (9:13:19 PM): i wrote it in the forum now
Glorfindel VG (9:13:26 PM): is it something more specific?
Eonwe Valar (9:14:26 PM): Aye, it's more specific than "tempering of metals"
Eonwe Valar (9:14:43 PM): You got closer. I'll let the logic lead you from there :}
Eonwe Valar (9:14:55 PM): *You got closer on the forum answer.
Eonwe Valar (9:15:49 PM): Say, if you wanted to edit your current answer, since we're both sitting right here, go ahead.
Eonwe Valar (9:16:13 PM): *your current answer = your most recent answer.
Glorfindel VG (9:17:24 PM): tempering steel to make armor?
Eonwe Valar (9:18:25 PM): Hmm, how can I put this...
Eonwe Valar (9:18:40 PM): The question is just about the craft, not the purpose.
Sarujil (9:19:39 PM): i dont get it
Eonwe Valar (9:20:13 PM): Your most recent answer is on the right track, but it needs to be more specific.
Glorfindel VG (9:20:26 PM): can i use the book?
Glorfindel VG (9:20:37 PM): im pretty sure i remember about where it is
Eonwe Valar (9:21:00 PM): I'm trying to hint to you without outright telling you :}
Glorfindel VG (9:21:26 PM): hmm
Eonwe Valar (9:21:27 PM): On the forum, you're almost there.
Sarujil (9:21:34 PM): well, using the book is allowed under the rules for the silmarillion thread, you have to decide whether you want to or not
Eonwe Valar (9:22:32 PM): Perhaps, were I to say my last sentence aloud, there would be some stress put on a couple of words. Can you figure out which ones those would be?
Glorfindel VG (9:23:07 PM): hmmm gimme a sec lol
Glorfindel VG (9:26:09 PM): the only two things that are coming to me are tempering of steel and silver and their mail
Glorfindel VG (9:26:57 PM): or beardcraft was pretty close too
Glorfindel VG (9:27:28 PM): hmmm is that what you mean?
Glorfindel VG (9:27:39 PM): "metal" being too general right?
Eonwe Valar (9:27:55 PM): yes
Glorfindel VG (9:28:25 PM): okay i revised my answer
Glorfindel VG (9:28:27 PM): lol
Eonwe Valar (9:28:27 PM): It's one specific craft. Only need one.
Eonwe Valar (9:28:51 PM): I'll give you credit. The important part was "tempering of steel."
Glorfindel VG (9:29:23 PM): lolol
Eonwe Valar (9:29:34 PM): I couldn't outright tell you you were right or wrong until it was on the trivia thread.
Glorfindel VG (9:29:50 PM): my very first guess was the correct one.  I wish i would have put that in their first!
Glorfindel VG (9:30:14 PM): which was just from my rambling off the top of my head
Glorfindel VG (9:30:31 PM): i guess it goes to show first insticts are usually right
[time switch as we switch whose transcript is used. Above is EDT]
Glorfindel VG (8:26:28 PM): i guess it goes to show first insticts are usually right
Glorfindel VG (8:27:46 PM): temperin gof steel
(8:28:37 PM) Sarujil has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (8:29:04 PM): You can now ask the next question, when you have one.
VardaValar1 (8:30:00 PM): Yay Glorfindel!
Glorfindel VG (8:30:13 PM): hehe
Glorfindel VG (8:30:29 PM): where was that in the book again eonwe?
Glorfindel VG (8:30:34 PM): it was driving me crazy
Glorfindel VG (8:30:55 PM): i had that just off the edge of my brain but i couldnt quite grab it
Eonwe Valar (8:31:32 PM): I mentioned in my response, it's in "Of the Sindar."
Eonwe Valar (8:34:03 PM): Roughly 8 paragraphs in.
Eonwe Valar (8:34:38 PM): Easier to give that description rather than page numbers, since not everyone here has the same copy of the Sil.
Eonwe Valar (8:37:59 PM): afk for a moment, grabbing dinner and figuring out my question for the LotR/Hobbit trivia thread.
Glorfindel VG (8:38:34 PM): ahhh yes i found it
Glorfindel VG (8:39:03 PM): and it mentions something about dwarven mail and rings which is probably what i was thinking
