Cabed-en-Aras is the deep gorge in the River Teiglin where Túrin slew Glaurung. It means “The Deer’s Leap.” It was renamed Cabed Naeramarth, “The Leap of Dreadful Doom,” after Niënor perished as she leaped from its cliffs. “No deer would ever leap there again, and all living things shunned it, and no man would walk upon its shore.”
