Fifth son of Fëanor, called the Crafty
(called after his father,
whose alias birthname was also Curufinwë) (mother’s name
Atarinkë: “little
father”), and very much like his father in talent and temper. Always to
be found at the side of his brother Celegorm.
Trying to keep his father’s
Oath, Curufin turned into probably the most evil of the sons of
Fëanor.
He was an elf of devious cunning. His character is best portrayed by
the
fact that after being spared by Beren – as Luthien forbade his slaying
–
Curufin “being filled with shame and malice”, took the bow of Celegorm,
and
shot back as they went; and the arrow was aimed at Luthien”. Eventually
he
was killed in the attack on Dior Eluchil in Doriath.
