Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Aiya, post made last night
Varda05/17/2020
Aiya!
[4:00 PM]
Thanks! Good to hear.
[4:01 PM]
The posts being mentioned are to the Forum story, often called the
rp.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Quite an exercise in how I can turn "I found nothing" into a good
post, until I realized something useful could come out of it
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Heya all.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Aiya!
Varda05/17/2020
Aiya Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Aye, good post Phar. If you hadn't had a "here's a place to stash
the horses" I was going to come up with something. Perfectly happy
to let someone else do it, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
hehe
Elrond05/17/2020
Aiya
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Although I now want to discuss where exactly we all think we are,
because I envisioned us apparently further west, near the gap in the
mountains of Angmar. But that can wait.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I found myself staring at the map, not sure how big the realm of
Angmar really is at this time or whether there's still Ettenmoors to
our west.
[4:05 PM]
I figured we either approached Angmar on a more western front, or
were already past them.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Ettenmoors would very roughly be at the southern end of Angmar.
[4:06 PM]
Angmar runs in a gap between the Mountains of Angmar and the area
including the Etenmoors, roughly, and then some north of the
Mountains of Angmar as well.
Varda05/17/2020
(Having some odd connection problems.)
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Myes. I figured we'd either have the Ettenmoors in front of us or
behind us. If they're directly to our west right now I can make some
alterations.
[4:07 PM]
In front of us seems to fit the best with what you are thinking.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If we're where I was thinking, they're sort of southeast of us. I
can't pull out my map right now so going by memory.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Southeast? That works for me.
[4:08 PM]
Means there should be no elevation to our west, meaning my post can
still work
Varda05/17/2020
Aiya Elrond : )
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I even opened up the Atlas, but couldn't find anything specific to
this region other than perhaps vegetation.
[4:09 PM]
Aiya Elrond!
Varda05/17/2020
Hi to Irmo, whose typing seems to have happened. : ) I know it's his
bedtime.
Irm05/17/2020
Aiya mellindė, I can't stay for the meeting - early work tomorrow -
but I wish you all a nice discussion and fun !
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Between looking up our location and figuring out the name of my
horse and if I still had the same one, I think preparing for the
post took more time than the post itself.
Varda05/17/2020
Angmar being in the mountains and us going into the pass is what I
figured.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Aiya Irmo!
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Take care mellon.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
And namarie
Varda05/17/2020
Thanks for dropping by, Irmo! Sleep well!
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Sounds about right Phar, lol.
Varda05/17/2020
Sounds like cooking up anything! Prep time may be the longest part.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
And a few seconds of "Why did I have to put so many accents on my
horse?"
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Fancy Mirkwood Elves, heh.
Varda05/17/2020
heh
[4:14 PM]
Good posting all around. Thanks! Was just now reading them.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
At least my geology studies still come in handy sometimes...
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
When I can, I'll pull out my map of Eriador found in the back of my
lovely -couple-months-old hardback of Fellowship.
Varda05/17/2020
No study is wasted, it seems like. : )
[4:15 PM]
Would you like to make a run to get it? We're not forcing you to
stay in the chair. : )
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I have it nearby, just can't open it right now, and I didn't want to
take up the opening minutes of the meeting with it.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Nah, got a map up in the browser. Amazon has one that can be zoomed
in a bit
Varda05/17/2020
Can it be linked?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
https://www.amazon.com/Middle-Earth-Hobbit-Poster-inches/dp/B07451HJB3
Varda05/17/2020
Nice!
[4:16 PM]
Are we near the m in Carn Dum?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Slightly more north than I was expecting, but if you're talking
about the pass, sure.
[4:17 PM]
Maybe my western view is more southwestern.
Varda05/17/2020
Aye. Figured that was where we were about to enter.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If we took the pass, we shouldn't need to abandon our horses. The
Witch-King took an army through there, including himself on a horse,
so he was bound to have cavalry.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Good point. So we're not going to the pass, but trying to sneak over
on one of the sides.
Varda05/17/2020
So we are avoiding the eyes of the pass. Left or right of it? I'm
guessing right, but would like to be on the same page as everyone
else.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Considering the hostile activity is to our west, I'm thinking left.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I was going to have evidence of Telperos that way, but I'll adapt.
Just might take me some time.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
*to our east
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I've got other ideas.
Varda05/17/2020
urge to buy that map
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
If we went to the right, I'd expect more heavy enemy activity on our
west.
[4:21 PM]
I've got a similar one on my bedroom wall
[4:21 PM]
But sure, I'll wait for Eonwe's ideas.
Varda05/17/2020
Aiming to go closer to where it says "Angmar" or even to the right
towards the north of Gundabad. It might even be south of it,
depending on our intel.
[4:22 PM]
Eonwe has some great idea. Fire away!
[4:23 PM]
*ideas
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
When we get to Tolkien, if we're going to discuss the RP in that
space, I'll bring some stuff up at that time.
Varda05/17/2020
Will you be able to stay?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I'll have some time.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Oh, I should poke Arien
Varda05/17/2020

[4:24 PM]
Aiya Arien. : )

Varda05/17/2020
Any other membership news?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Fladrif spotted, watched him do a few battlegrounds in Hearthstone.
He didn't have much luck though.
Varda05/17/2020
Glad he's gaming! Go go Fladrif!

[4:26 PM]
The stories are about Auros. : )
[4:27 PM]
So our fellow rp folks may take quite an interest! Including
readers.
[4:27 PM]
Eonwe, go ahead.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
That link is to the second story. You can get to the first story
from a link at the bottom.
[4:28 PM]
It's 2 stories in a series, as Varda said, about Auros. More are
likely to come as I am inspired to write or complete the ones
already dancing in my head, and hopefully where spoilers for the RP
won't happen.
Varda05/17/2020
Isn't 800 the one that comes first?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
800 comes first. You linked 1200.
Varda05/17/2020
Where? The News and here had 800. I'd like to make the correction.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
The link says 1200.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Right here in the chat.
Varda05/17/2020
Two links
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I only see one link.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I only see one link.
Varda05/17/2020
On mine, it shows 800 first. Interesting.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
What Phar said, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Jinx.
Varda05/17/2020
Weird.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Passes Phar a soda of his choice
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Thanks

Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I see both of those.
Varda05/17/2020
Mine showed fine above. Strange.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
It did.
Varda05/17/2020
Ok, all good now. : )
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Btw, the name of the series, is, apty, Narn i Auros. Hope you all
enjoy reading the stories as much as I enjoyed writing them.
Varda05/17/2020
Been having some connection weirdness. May be affecting things.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Considering you use your own transcript now, at least we know
what'll go online
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Aye having some connection issues here too.
Varda05/17/2020
And it's linked all over the place.
[4:33 PM]
We're both in Texas, same side near the coast. I heard this weekend
may have some interesting storms. We had some already. Could be
affecting us.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
My internet has warranted a swift boot to my internet provider for a
couple of weeks now, really.

[4:34 PM]
Eonwe, would you like to take this section, with us adding in our
two cents along the way? : )
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Sure.
Varda05/17/2020
Fire when ready.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Internet giving me trouble loading the Games Site. Time for plan B.
Varda05/17/2020
Would that be me taking it? : ) I have it up.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I was just going to open my files, but it'd be much faster and
cleaner if you'd prefer to copy/paste from the Games Site.
Varda05/17/2020
Either way is good. I'd be happy to.

The Lord of the Rings Height Comparison - LotRO

Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
LotRO uses meters?
Varda05/17/2020
Yes
[4:55 PM]
English in honour of J.R.R. Tolkien
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I had to look up the units in the books yesterday to make sure I
could make use of yards.
Varda05/17/2020
They even use English spellings in his honour.
[4:56 PM]
All us users of feet and miles try to adjust. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
So what do we want to use in the RP?
[4:56 PM]
That ridge could be 5 yards or 5 meters!
Varda05/17/2020
It's about 5 Auros-lengths?
[4:57 PM]
j/k
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Auros is only a meter tall?
[4:57 PM]
All this time and I never knew he was a hobbit in disguise.
Varda05/17/2020
Meters, I guess. In honor of Tolkien. But I may have to go translate
to them first. : )
[4:59 PM]
Or you'll get more hobbit-sized Noldor.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Well, I did use yards in my post, is what I mean.
[4:59 PM]
And I thought Tolkien used yards.
Varda05/17/2020
I'm tossing in your map since this is a good section for it:
[4:59 PM]
https://www.amazon.com/Middle-Earth-Hobbit-Poster-inches/dp/B07451HJB3
[5:00 PM]
Guess I'll have to check in the book.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Yeah see, miles... imperial units
Varda05/17/2020
Welllll, then, I don't know why LotRO uses meters. The game folks
are based in the USA.
[5:01 PM]
Guess they're part of the "let's switch to meters" guys. We use that
kind of measurement in labs already.
[5:01 PM]
Causes engineering problems, even at NASA, where one section is
figured in one system and one in the other.
[5:02 PM]
Would we like to hit the Tolkien Moment now or the rp now while
we're all here, more or less?
[5:02 PM]
Vote please.
[5:02 PM]
TM or RP
[5:02 PM]
(Either is fine for me. My time is flexible.)
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
As is mine.
[5:03 PM]
Though if I need to change anything geographically in my post I'd
like to know
Varda05/17/2020
I'll do the Tolkien Moment right quick
then.
[5:03 PM]
This concerns Aule and Melkor, in
[5:03 PM]
Silmarillion: Valaquenta
[5:04 PM]
Quote:
[5:04 PM]
Aulė has might little less than Ulmo. His lordship is
over all the substances of which Arda is made.
In the beginning he wrought much in fellowship with Manwė and
Ulmo; and the fashioning of all lands was his labor.
He is a smith and master of all crafts, and he delights in works
of skill, however small, as much as in the mighty building of old.
His are the gems that lie deep in the Earth and the gold that is
fair in the hand, no less than the walls of the mountains and the
basins of the sea.
The Noldor learned most of him, and he was ever their friend.
Melkor was jealous of him, for Aulė was most like himself in
thought and in powers, and there was long strife between them, in
which Melkor ever marred or undid the works of Aulė, and Aulė grew
weary in repairing the tumults and disorders of Melkor.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Such a bully.
Varda05/17/2020
Both also desired to make things of their own that
should be new and unthought of by others, and delighted in the
praise of their skill.
But Aulė remained faithful to Eru and submitted all that he did to
his will; and he did not envy the works of others, but sought and
gave counsel.
Whereas Melkor spent his spirit in envy and hate, until at last he
could make nothing save in mockery of the thoughts of others, and
all their works he destroyed if he could.
[5:06 PM]
End quote.
[5:06 PM]
.
[5:06 PM]
Aye, Phar.
[5:06 PM]
And look what it got him.
[5:06 PM]
He lost the ability to craft wonderful, new things.
[5:06 PM]
An interesting bit there is the Noldor reference. : )
[5:07 PM]
Considering we've been in the stories about Auros, and in the talk
about the rp.

So about my last post in the discussion thread: was any of that
useful or interesting for anyone? Any of it we want to use or should
I nix it all (what isn't yet estabished) and start from
scratch?(edited)
Varda05/17/2020
That was a lot of research on your part. Thank you!
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Ah, yes, the "deal" between Calaron and the sorcer.
[5:24 PM]
er.
Varda05/17/2020
Where are we going to say the ruins are?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I was always kind of vague on how he got the ring, was thinking more
about how Bilbo would put the Ring in his pocket and didn't know
he'd done it.
[5:25 PM]
An actual deal.. I don't know.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Once I know how we feel about what I put forth in that post, I can
further comment on what I'm thinking.
ArienValar05/17/2020
some ruins sound intriguing
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
If Calaron did make a deal, I don't think it was one he would
remember until after he was possessed. Maybe some sort of charm or
hypnotic effect at play, if elves can be subject to that.
[5:26 PM]
But we should probably narrow down a topic
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Well we're already working on the idea he was possessed, so...
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
True.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I figure possession takes consent, he's young, could be fooled in
some way, not realizing what he's dealing with.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
So if there was some sort of seductive deal going on, he was not in
his right mind due to some shadowy influence, and wouldn't even
remember having the deal or the ring until it's over.
[5:28 PM]
Yeah, I have trouble imagining him consenting to such a thing unless
something was influencing him.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
It doesn't ultimately affect the story I suppose, but since it'd
come up a couple of times in discussion I figured I'd throw that out
there as a thought.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Maybe. As for the taunt and invitation to Angmar, I think that was
mostly hubris on the sorcerer's part.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Annatar didn't need a "shadowy influence" to hide he was Sauron from
Gil-Galad and Elrond.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
He knows ways to hit both our buttons and maybe he wants to cause

Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Invitation: Fair enough. It's something we'd discussed, so threw it
out there.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
But Calaron was a pretty humble wood elf and I don't know what he
could be offered out there. Maybe a way out of a dangerous
situation?
[5:33 PM]
Anyway. Like you said, it had little bearing.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Information on troop movements, how to win over a young elf lady

Why is Helvy coming? plus pack. Did Calion call? Or is he trying to

Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Since being cleansed, Helvy has had a hatred for the corruption that
has taken hold in the region, and has been doing his best to recruit
a pack from the Mirkwood wolves to fight back.
[5:48 PM]
His ultimate goal is to take down the sorcerer who has possessed his
friend and free some other wolves in the process.

would've been reports of ravaged orc squads and a mass of claws and
teeth slowly making its way up.

The way I see it, in the search through Angmar's ruins, Auros has
Calion and Fainan checking around the ruins, while he goes looking

of times, Calion gets frustrated, demands to know what exactly Auros

for not explaining what he's looking for, in the process of the
conversation, it'll be suggested Frali might be able to help.
[6:44 PM]
Auros can help Frali remember the sense the sword gave him when he'd
found it, then Frali can use that to try and find the staff/forging
area.
Varda05/17/2020
While scouting, Fainan might locate Telperos.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If I had been writing where we're leaving the horses, we would've
found his horse :} But I'm reworking all that mentally.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
"I may have found a place to hide our horses! ...And funny thing,
one was already there..."
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Question is, would Fainan find Telperos, or would Telperos find
Fainan? ;}
Varda05/17/2020
She's scouting, is hoping to find Telperos alive rather than a body.
She's actively looking for him as part of their mission.
[6:47 PM]
Would he expect a silvan?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If he's in Angmar, he probably actively trying not to be found.
[6:48 PM]
And if he caught a glimpse of Calaron, he might not be trusting
Elves he doesn't know.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Do want to go into that U?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If I'm reading that map right, everything north of the Ettenmoors
and South of the Mountains of Angmar is the Realm of Angmar.
Varda05/17/2020
So you're entering the bottom of that U
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Then at Carn Dum there is also an opening into the north, and that
north part is also part of Angmar.
Varda05/17/2020
"Here was of old the Witch-realm of Angmar"
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
But Auros was aiming for the land between the Ettenmoors and the
Mountains of Angmar.
Varda05/17/2020
So we're not going into the mountains of Angmar at all
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
So we're skirting the Ettenmoors on the northwest side and heading
into the U.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Yes.
[7:15 PM]
That's more or less what I'm thinking.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Seems a bit early to get rid of our horses then, if we have the
entire U to cross before actually reaching the mountains. Or is what
we're looking for inside the U?
Varda05/17/2020
Are we headed towards the Gundabad direction once we're in the U?
[7:15 PM]
Agreed, Phar. We should keep the horses. We are not at all where I
thought we were.
[7:16 PM]
and the browser is back. : )
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I think we should refine direction with information we pick up
within Angmar. Or to put another way, let's discuss where exactly we
want to go :}
[7:17 PM]
Welcome back Browser :}
Varda05/17/2020
So, we're still way down at the Ettenmoors, heading into the
backwards C. It looks like the mouth of a snake. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
That's promising
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
:}
Varda05/17/2020
so we need to rewrite the horse part and just go around the southern
part of the U.
[7:19 PM]
You want to go inside the U towards where?
[7:19 PM]
Direction of River Langwell? towards Mt. Gundabad? North of
Gundabad?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Chasing down the party you saw traces of when scouting sounds like a
good start.
[7:20 PM]
you = Fainan
Varda05/17/2020
That was predicated on being at the Carn Dum gap, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
We could write a post where Auros checks a map, sees that we're
nowhere near we want to be, and tells us that we won't need that
hiding place after all
Varda05/17/2020
heh
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
hehe.
Varda05/17/2020
The baddies would be going through Gundabad to reach Mirkwood.
[7:21 PM]
I assume?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
That would be one path.
Varda05/17/2020
That's the usual path. Which one are you thinking they took?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Probably the best one for that purpose for the bad guys.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
So these baddies are recruited on this side of the Misty Mountains
and are now making their way past the Ettenmoors to the northeast to
Gundabad for an attack on Mirkwood?
Varda05/17/2020
I guess we followed the Hoarwell up to the Ettenmoors.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Well, orcs would be living in the Misty Mountains and the northern
range.
Varda05/17/2020
Goblins and their ilk actually live in Gundabad.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Including Gundabad.
[7:24 PM]
What Varda said.
Varda05/17/2020
It would be an easy staging point for our sorceror.
[7:25 PM]
He might have his forge outside of their or inside.
[7:25 PM]
So the question is where is the forge?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Sounds like we're being drawn to Gundabad
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I don't think we actually want to go there though. We'd never make
it out alive, hehe.
Varda05/17/2020
Or north of it. Or even in the west before the mountains
[7:26 PM]
Figured it was north of Gundabad. Now I'm lost. : )
[7:26 PM]
North west
[7:27 PM]
That the ruins would be in that area
[7:27 PM]
Sooo, Fornost?
[7:27 PM]
sorry no no
[7:28 PM]
Opposite end of those mts from Fornost?
[7:28 PM]
north side?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I think after we pick up some intel in Angmar, we find we need to go
further north, beyond the Mountains of Angmar.
[7:29 PM]
At that point, we either risk Carn Dum or take our chances on foot
to make it through the Mountains, if we can find a pass safe enough.
Varda05/17/2020
Mountain climbing, no pass. Better have special gear.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
So by picking up that intel, you mean inside the U?
Varda05/17/2020
This is a long trek.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Yes.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
And this intel is by finding Telperos and the forge?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
It doesn't have to be deep inside.
Varda05/17/2020
Goblin bragging to his buddies, "Look at my new armor! No dents
anywhere!" Follow his backtrail.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Well, I guess that depends on whether the Sorcerer needs the
forge and/or knows where to find it.
Varda05/17/2020
We want the forge to unmake the "orc sword"?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If possible, but it might take having both items to destroy them.
Varda05/17/2020
Hope that's in the runes on it.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If the being that forged it was trying to unmake it and reclaim the
vested power, and the process was interrupted, it may require
bringing them back together to make them vulnerable enough to
destroy, and then skipping the part where the power vested in the
glaive can be reclaimed.
[7:35 PM]
Rough sketch.
Varda05/17/2020
What happens to the staff if the orc sword is destroyed?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Not to be too practical, but whatever we decided at that point, heh.
Within our story, I'm contemplating that it can't be done.
[7:38 PM]
At least not with what we have available. If we had a volcano, that
tends to solve alot of problems.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Or a dragon.
Varda05/17/2020
There are dragons up north. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I've entertained the idea of getting that ring off Calaron (alive or
dead) and then going on a quest to destroy it by dragonfire.
Varda05/17/2020
So we need to take both staff and sword to the forge to unmake them?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
We could combine the two
Varda05/17/2020
Does the ring link the staff and sword too?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
But yes, we'd probably best get the two weapons to the forge and
unmake them there.
[7:40 PM]
Probably not, I just thought, as long as we're going to find a
dragon...
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
It's probably too cliche'd if the villain got both items then kept
us alive to gloat and reforge the glaive only for us to the destroy
it at the exact required moment.(edited)
Varda05/17/2020
Any proper villain would have us killed on sight. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
We could go steal the staff from him, then move back to the forge
while he chases us, and as we get there... so does Helvy
[7:42 PM]
But I don't think you want to confront him and run
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
If Auros could, he probably would try to settle it then and there,
yes.
Varda05/17/2020
Helvy leaps and takes the sorceror over the no-rail ramp and they
fall into the forge with the ring and staff and the sword he took.
[7:43 PM]
heh
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Helvy will survive, I can tell you that Injured from the fall,
but alive. Maybe he crawls out of the forge?
Varda05/17/2020
We laugh from our houseless selves and go to Valinor.
[7:44 PM]
Ok, I"m not serious in the slightest, sorry.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Still thought I'd play with it.
Varda05/17/2020
Metal Wolf
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
And in the midst of the forge, Helvy fuses with the sword and
staff and other metal slag and arises as Mechahelvy!
[7:45 PM]
Cyborg wolf!
Varda05/17/2020
Mainly I'd better go back and not suggest leaving the horses.
[7:46 PM]
And a new webcomic is born.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Heh. If I take out my discovery of the rock shelter there'll be
nothing left.
[7:46 PM]
I guess I can mention it as a hiding place if we ever need it.
Varda05/17/2020
Mine's not much either. : )
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
We need a place to spend the night anyway, so leave the rock shelter
Phar.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Right
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Again I say, at this stage Auros has not been terribly forthcoming
with the plan.
Varda05/17/2020
Mainly we just need to know where we are and which direction we're
going. : )
[7:47 PM]
Since we're scouting, we need to be able to say what we saw.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
And where/if we want to meet up with Helvy before the confrontation.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
So with some tweaks, Fainan may think they're going to go through on
foot, or go along the southern mountains.
Varda05/17/2020
No reason to think we're going on foot.
[7:48 PM]
Sounds as if we are very far from wherever we're going.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
You said "Towards the ruins" so we can say there's ruins of some
sort not far from us that we're going to check.
[7:49 PM]
*Fainan said
Varda05/17/2020
No ruins, far as I know.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Some geography doesn't work probably since we're between mountain
ranges.
Varda05/17/2020
I'm about to run a delete key over the last part.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Angmar was a kingdom. There's going to be cities and townships of
some sort that were abandoned when the kingdom fell.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Okay. So we're staying to the southwest of Gundabad for now, south
of the mountains?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Either way, I won't post until you two are satisfied with your
posts.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
And are these the ruins where we find the forge, or the ruins where
we find Telperos, or both?
[7:51 PM]
I am more unsure of the spelling of his name every time I say it.
Varda05/17/2020
Sounds like nothing at all, just scenery.
[7:51 PM]
We aren't even close.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
We're going to check a few of them (at least two) before we find
anything or run into anything.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Frankly all I have to do in my post is replace "hide our horses"
with "rest for the night".
Varda05/17/2020
You found us a campsite
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Indeed
[7:52 PM]
Well hidden, too, and fresh water!
Varda05/17/2020
Can't see why we're even going that way if the main kingdom is north
and not in the U.
[7:53 PM]
We need a major forge.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
The realm is in the U and above the U.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Map also places it to the south of Carn Dum, west of the U.
[7:54 PM]
Well, northwest.
Varda05/17/2020
West of the U and with the pass between.
[7:54 PM]
and up past the pass all the way to Gundabad
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
"For at that time the ealm of Angmar arose in the North beyond the
Ettenmoors. It's land lay on both sides of the Mountains, and there
gathred many evil men, and Orcs, and other fell creatures." --
Appendix A
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
So both areas are in fact Angmar.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Exactly.
[8:00 PM]
I need to go afk for a moment.
Varda05/17/2020
Yes, they are.
[8:02 PM]
So inside the U, to the west and on through the Carn Dum pass and on
the other side.
[8:02 PM]
That's a lot of territory to search.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Well, we're now skirting into the U so we might as well start there?
Varda05/17/2020
Maybe the orc sword has some kind of pull towards the staff to give
us at least some direction, stronger as it is closer, but so weak
that only Frali can feel it.
[8:03 PM]
Too much area.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
After searching 2 or 3 ruins and me yelling at Auros, we'll finally
get that to work
Varda05/17/2020
yay!
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I imagine Helvy would make his way along the north of the U though,
unless we have evidence that Calaron traveled through the U as well.
[8:04 PM]
So no chance of meeting up just yet.
[8:07 PM]
I like to imagine the pack moving straight through the Mountains of
Angmar causing as much destruction as possible.
[8:07 PM]
Both at Gundabad and Carn Dum.
[8:07 PM]
Wolves can climb mountains, right?
Varda05/17/2020
They would be attacked by armies of goblins.
[8:08 PM]
Wolves could find the best routes into them, likely, but not
straight up.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
How many armies are we talking here? It's famously empty since the
Five Armies.
Varda05/17/2020
Now that's a thought. How much refill since then?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Enough to launch an attack on Mirkwood, which... didn't happen in
canon, I believe
[8:09 PM]
I know Helvy's pack will settle down in NW Mirkwood and keep the
place safe after our adventure in Angmar is over, so there's that.
Varda05/17/2020
I made the edit.
[8:10 PM]
Still similar, but no leaving horses behind.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Might want to end with quotation marks?
Varda05/17/2020
Now it's "small ruins"
[8:11 PM]
Good calll, thanks! Done.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Alright, made my edit as well, luckily didn't need to change as much
as you did
Varda05/17/2020
That looks as if it should work fine.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I'd appreciate if we didn't skip the entire night though, about time
for a Helvy update
Varda05/17/2020
yay!
[8:13 PM]
we snore - daintily as elves
[8:13 PM]
We need to take watches.
[8:14 PM]
The wolves would make great sentry duty types. How about local
critters, owls, nightjars, bats?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Not even the sound of a bird in the air, if my post is to be
believed Bats might be interesting.
Varda05/17/2020
As Phar took his turn at watch, his thoughts went to Helvy.
[8:15 PM]
Lizards, bugs?
[8:15 PM]
Ok, so we need to figure what people eat around this large area.
[8:15 PM]
No animals being wild means they have pens. We might follow the
livestock sounds, smells, or your critter sense.
[8:16 PM]
Why no animals?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
" The ground here sloped down slightly, and was bare of most
vegetation. A few dry grasses, shrubs, an occasional dead tree. He
frowned. After spending most of his life in the forest, such a
scarcity of life annoyed him. Not even the sound of a bird to be
heard in the air. This didn't just feel like a matter of altitude
and cold climate. The rot of Angmar was close, and it had never left
these parts"
[8:16 PM]
If the enemy needs to eat, I guess they don't rely on this place for
it?
Varda05/17/2020
Locals living on jerky.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Maybe
[8:17 PM]
Anyway. I was thinking Calion's about to end his watch.
[8:17 PM]
Stares into the moonlight for a bit, window into the west kind of
vibe.
[8:18 PM]
Thinks about Helvy.
[8:18 PM]
Goes to sleep, has a dream... and we shift to wolf's perspective.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
back
Varda05/17/2020
There you go.
[8:18 PM]
Hiya. We cut the parts with leaving horses out of our posts. Didn't
take much.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Helvy at this point will have made his way along the Ered Mithrin,
north of the... is that Longwell or Langwell?
[8:20 PM]
The pack is starting to scale Mount Gundabad, being more careful,
moving only at night, ambushing lone patrols, tracing Calaron's
steps.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Ok, caught up in the discussion.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
If Calaron made his way through the U after reaching Gundabad,
heading west towards Carn Dum, Helvy will reach us in a few days.
[8:21 PM]
Week tops, depending on his progress along Gundabad.
[8:21 PM]
Should give us plenty of time to do what we want to do in the U.
Varda05/17/2020
Langwell, lang being the old way of writing long.
[8:23 PM]
Like Auld lang syne.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Map wasn't clear, probably could've googled it
Varda05/17/2020
Run the magnifying glass over it.
[8:23 PM]
Makes the part in the square bigger.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
It looks mostly like a triangle, even when I do that
[8:24 PM]
Matching neither o nor a elsewhere in the map.
Varda05/17/2020
Helvy didn't stop off forever in Rivendell. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I imagine his progress has slowed down a bit in the mountains
Varda05/17/2020
Likely
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
You know...
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
(I really need to start my gaming report, will start searching
games)
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Part of our problem is that our taunt-happy Houseless wasn't very
specific in his taunts. Kinda makes me feel like something here
would be useful, starting at :34...

Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Ends at about 1:06.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
I guess I assumed Angmar would have like.. a capital. A major city.
Where we would go and he would wait for us.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
Carn Dum.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
There we go.
[8:30 PM]
But that's not where the forge is, then.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
But I can't imagine we should be going there without an army.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Well, if we figure out we do need to go there, this would be a nice
place to run into some lupine reinforcements then
[8:32 PM]
First I think we need to find this forge and figure out why it's not
at Carn Dum.
Varda05/17/2020
Sneaking in since few of us and mostly sneaky types? And it's a pile
of ruins that we can hide in?
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
That was my original thought, Varda.
Varda05/17/2020
Carn Dum for forge, but a ruined Carn Dum.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I may be wrong, but I get the feeling sneaking into Carn Dum would
be like sneaking into Dol Guldor.
Varda05/17/2020
Soldiers say the rubble in a town gives them lots of hiding places.
[8:34 PM]
Dol Guldur was in good condition until Galadriel and Celeborn.
[8:34 PM]
This place was wrecked a long time ago.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I thought we established it was the weapon might've predated the
realm of Angmar anyway, so wouldn't necessarily have been in Carn
Dum if so.
Varda05/17/2020
That would be the reason.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Okay, so we've got 2 possible timelines here.
[8:35 PM]
First, we find Telperos in the U, but figure out the forge is in
Carn Dum, and will need to make our way northwest.
[8:35 PM]
Sneaking our way in.
[8:36 PM]
If this is the case, there's no need for Calaron to have crossed the
U on his way there, which means Helvy's pack won't come down there,
and we wont'find them until we near Carn Dum.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I guess I need to reread the story then, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Second, the forge is in the U.
[8:36 PM]
That means Calaron probably visited the place or is even waiting for
us near here.
[8:37 PM]
Which means we will run into our wolf friend.
[8:37 PM]
And if we then need to chase Calaron and the staff towards Carn Dum,
we have a pack with us.
[8:37 PM]
Or we move first and they catch up with us on the way.
[8:38 PM]
Or we skip Carn Dum altogether and finish the whole confrontation in
the U.
[8:38 PM]
At/near the forge.
[8:38 PM]
Depends on where Calaron's waiting for us.
[8:38 PM]
Will make it trickier to find a cliff to fall from, but that can be
adapted
[8:39 PM]
Any thoughts?
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
I feel like I just need to spend some time thinking about this at
this point. I don't think I'm going to have any sudden breakthroughs
of inspiration on this tonight.(edited)
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Fair enough. My next post (at night) will keep things open from
Helvy's end, as he'll be no further west than Gundabad. I'll leave
our path and the location of Telperos, the forge and all of that in
your hands for now.
Eonwe Valar05/17/2020
That's good.

William and Sly 2
The gnomes have stolen Williams journal and
scattered the pages all over the mountainside! Luckily, he knows a
fox who#39s willing to help him out.
[8:51 PM]
Beautifully made platformer wherein you play a fox who's trying to
retrieve his friend's journal pages, also collecting mushrooms and
various secrets, including flight
[8:52 PM]
The gameplay's good. The art's good, foreground and background. The
movement and animation is incredibly smooth. And the music is
delightfully relaxing.
[8:52 PM]
I've linked it before and I'll link it again in the future because
the game is just that good
[8:54 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/inXile_Ent/super-stacker-2

stack all the blocks of various shapes and sizes and not let any

O wow, it's giving us pictures now.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
There are heroes as well, including a number you would need to buy
with real money, but the ones you can get for free should do
[8:59 PM]
Is it? The links?
[8:59 PM]
Blizzard gaming:
Varda05/17/2020
Yes.
Ar-Pharazon-V05/17/2020
Can't see those from here. Just loose links.
[9:00 PM]
Might be in the settings.
[9:02 PM]
Heroes of the Storm:
2 levels gained, to 413! Including getting Falstad to 4 and Azmodan
to 5. The newest heroes in my roster are doing well.
[9:03 PM]
Strange brawl week, where in all 3 brawls I ended up playing
Morales, the healer. Luckily I'm pretty good with that one, and we
won 2
[9:05 PM]
Hearthstone:
Got that card back for May, so yay A swamp card back based on
Zangarmarsh.
[9:06 PM]
Also got that free hero, Nemsy the warlock, who I'm now using as my
default warlock hero. Since she also has an affiliation with the
swamp, I decided to give her the new card back as well. Good timing!
[9:08 PM]
Fun brawl this week; choose 4 cards, your opponent will get to ban
one of the 4, and you get a deck full of the other 3 cards.
[9:09 PM]
Plucked a cheap priest deck off the web, leading to you either
massively outhealing anything the enemy can do, or killing him off
with your own healing spells and a special minion, depending on what
the other person decides to ban.
[9:09 PM]
Iin my case, it was the latter

[9:09 PM]
WoW:
[9:10 PM]
Raiding still going well, again clearing all bosses in 2 nights, but
this time starting with the final bosses since we got the shortcut
quest done. Some people were still missing items for theirs, so we
focused on those for the second night, but ended up cleaning out the
entire raid anyway.
[9:11 PM]
For horrific visions, we ended up 5-masking Orgrimmar as well this
week! With both visions 5-masked, we got the final achievement for a
new mount, the Black Serpent of N'Zoth.
[9:12 PM]
With our group efforts over, I poked Stormwind solo at 5 masks in
the new reset, using tankspec to handle all the damage. First try
went well, but I got destroyed at the final boss. Second attempt
went less well, as I got killed twice in quick succession in the
last zone.
[9:13 PM]
I'll try Orgrimmar next week, I'm sure it will all work out well
enough with practice.
[9:14 PM]
Did my first keystone Freehold, no mount yet, but got a good idea of
how the boss order goes and which mobs can be skipped to still
fulfill the trash quotum.
[9:15 PM]
Weekly is arena, and since I'm trying to get a bit of extra
conquest, I'm making sure to save a win for each day of the week.
Not a problem so far, as I win more than I lose in guardian spec
[9:16 PM]
And other than that, got exalted with both new 8.3 factions, the
Rajani and the Uldum Accord, during their respective assaults.
[9:16 PM]
From the Uldum Accord I got a pet leash toy, a new pet called a
Pygmy Camel, and a vulture mount.
[9:17 PM]
From the Rajani I already had the mount, can't afford the pet yet
due to lack of pet charms, and ended up only buying the augmented
rune; that's still really good though, since it's a permanent item
which you can use to give yourself a rune buff before each fight.
[9:18 PM]
And for wowhead, reading more alpha stuff, lots of interesting
details and even zone questing articles... spoilers, but I never
mind those
[9:18 PM]
And that's it for Blizzard!
[9:21 PM]
I completed Total Annihilation,
completing another game for my old-game project. Next up will be the
expansion. I still want to complete my next biography before I dive
into it, but I was curious to see what the new units were and if
it's still as difficult as I remember. So I went about halfway
through the first level in the Core campaign, testing out new units
and new defensive buildings made for this aquatic world. Took a few
restarts as I was trying to defend too large an area at first, but
after I got the hang of it I'm confident I'll be able to get far
into this expansion, and hopefully complete it.
[9:21 PM]
And then I put it aside until I get the writing done
[9:22 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[9:26 PM]
Whew, such a long transcript, in making my own copy I had to copy it
in 4 parts.

[9:32 PM]
I"m killing Gundabad orcs in LotRO : )
Ioreth05/17/2020
Sorry i wasn't here for end of meeting, we had a 22 guild raid on
Southwind. Kinda fun. Then I had heroic Carapace
Varda05/17/2020
Very good!
[10:33 PM]
We put your link up for part of the Tolkien section
Ioreth05/17/2020
fun. I thought it was a lot of work, sure gave a new perspective of
how those places looked in "person"
Varda05/17/2020
It was amazing. I enjoyed it a lot.
Ioreth05/17/2020
I enjoy things like that. In my fiction I'm always imagining the
proportions of things, and stuff like how many days by horse does it
take to travel whereever
Varda05/17/2020
Still writing? : )
[10:36 PM]
Any Tolkien stuff?
Ioreth05/17/2020
No, just my Tolkien-like world I created. Books that haven't been
written involve a space travel type of thing, but I haven't put to
print. I've had fun with it in my mind
Varda05/17/2020
Sounds fun!
[10:37 PM]
Maybe you'll get to write them!
Ioreth05/17/2020
I keep forgetting what I have named folks. I need to start writing
stuff down again
Varda05/17/2020
I keep an "Encyclopedia" separate. Helps. And kept a character list.
Ioreth05/17/2020
I do that. I have names I might want to use, names I have used and
who they are assigned to, travel miles to different places, I've
made a rough map. Years ago I downloaded a fiction map program but I
haven't looked at it in ages
[10:40 PM]
I even used a geneology program one time to track geneology of my
characters
Varda05/17/2020
Neato : )
Ioreth05/17/2020
I gotto go put animals in, see ya
