    We have lots today.

Also, I had a question for the membership, since these pages

months into the archive listed at the bottom? Or no opinion? Please
type your vote: whole thing; short; no opinion. This vote can be

    True
Falco brought in a young Beorning to the kin last night, I believe?
    : )

    FalcoToday at 4:44 PM
    Correct

    VardaToday at 4:45 PM
Reminds me. What would our Lord of the Rings folks, all servers,
like to see in the kin chest?
Also, we could use crafting faciilities at the fancy new kin house
on Ithil. We have a study just inside the door, but need the others.
We have Falco and Fangorn suggesting crafting materials.
Perhaps we'd like top level food, scrolls, Hope, other?
We kind of need to communicate when it's gear as that gets tricky.
But we can get help from one with materials and another with
expertise, as we have often in the past. : )

    FalcoToday at 4:49 PM
I have multiples of SIngle Use Recipes across all crafts

    across three characters

    VardaToday at 4:53 PM
What do people find is the best way to get together for crafting
goodies together? For me it's usually being on at the same time and
    swapping.
We could use game mail, Discord?
    We'll think about it.
For now, we need to switch to

    Tolkien!
If you have a topic, question, or quote you'd like to bring up, just
    let us know.
Turning on dimes is something we do. ; )
    Otherwise,

I keep hearing people claim JRRT is a highly
polarized writer, black and white, good and evil only.
Where do we see him fudging that? Gray shades.
Maybe I should ask what at first appears to be just good or just
    evil?
There are reasons people think that thought.
Are Morgoth and Sauron equally evil?
And we have reached the hour.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:02 PM
Well, there is Good, and there is Evil, but as Tolkien put in one of
his Letters (not exact words) "I have neither made my
characters more or less good or evil than mankind is capable of."

    VardaToday at 5:02 PM
    Heh
Really hard to be pure evil or pure good.
    But some sure approach it.
And then there are those that just follow.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:04 PM
Denethor and Boromir should be enough to quash the idea that his
"good" characters are perfect. They are diametrically opposed to
    Sauron, and still have flaws.

    VardaToday at 5:04 PM
    Agreed.
Even Theoden. As good a man as he was, he could be swayed by words.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:05 PM
Their flaws don't come from the naivete of youth, as can be argued
    of Pippin's mistakes.

    VardaToday at 5:05 PM
Can be a development of pride, power
Even showed how a young guy like Pippin could see something without
the blinders of age, such as with the ents.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:06 PM
Sam's flaws, his mistakes which stem from a noble desire to protect
    Frodo from Gollum.
    Aye.

    VardaToday at 5:07 PM
He may have caused Gollum's fall, as he was so delicately balanced
at that moment. Caused a tremendous backlash.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:11 PM
Bah, i think I put my copy of Letters on a shelf I can't
    reach right now.

    VardaToday at 5:11 PM
    oops

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:13 PM
But short version, only Eru is pure good, and there is no one that
is pure evil (Absolute Evil = 0). Every created being falls
somewhere in between. Even the Valar are capable of mistakes, as
everyone can only make decisions based on their understanding of Ea.

    VardaToday at 5:14 PM
Not even Melkor began as evil.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:14 PM
I think a Letter, or a note to one, mentioned Tolkien
thought Sauron actually came closest to Absolute Evil, but I forget
    the reasoning.
One would naturally assume it would be Morgoth.

    VardaToday at 5:15 PM
He [Morgoth] just wanted more, perhaps even to be like Eru himself
whom he must have admired, wanting the same ability to create life
since he had nearly everything else. What else was there , in his
mind, rather than the creative use of all those abilities.
    Not Morgoth? wow

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:15 PM
Actually, I think I'm recalling the reasoning...
    Or supposition based on HoME..

    VardaToday at 5:16 PM
I remember it saying that Sauron was less evil because for a while
    he served another.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:17 PM
Ok, I think I'm remembering HoME, but here it goes..
Sauron in the end, after the Ring was destroyed, had lost so much of
his former native power and he had so fully invested himself in this
desire for domination that when everything fell down around him
(literally) he could no longer pull himself away from that to
recover. Hence "never being able to take shape again".

    VardaToday at 5:21 PM
So if he had decided to turn over a new leaf, he might have
strengthened again? Just too far gone by then?

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:22 PM
Morgoth, on the other hand, starting out as a being of greater
power, while having squandered a large portion of it still had
enough wherewithall in the recesses of his mind to draw himself away
and focus on recovery.  (Obviously not exact words. My
apologies for working from memory rather than the books.)

    VardaToday at 5:23 PM
He was shoved through the Doors of Night. That could give him time
    to recover?
Your memory is usually quite good!

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:26 PM
Yes, there's always been alot of opportunities for the villains to
turn aside from their "evil schemes", but they reach a point where,
not that they can't turn aside, but that they won't turn aside,
essentially refusing all other choices they could make and locking
    them into the path set.
Ironically not dissimilar from the temptations of the Hero: "You
could stay in Rivendell. You could stay in Lothlorien. You could go
    to Minas TIrith."

    VardaToday at 5:27 PM
Aye. That showed in a number of places. Feanorians with a chance to
return the Silmarils they could not touch any longer without pain,
to Eonwe, and not doing so.
The divider between the hero and the villain? They fail in the
    choice?
or just don't become heroes is another.

    Eonwe ValarToday at 5:29 PM
And now I remember a scene from an animated version of.. I think it
was All-Star Superman,.. where Superman dresses down Lex Luthor for
all the good he could've done if he really cared like he says he
    does.

    Side note, perhaps mini-Tolkien
Moment (in that I don't have the quote handy), is that Saruman
wasn't so far gone that he didn't recognize that Frodo's mercy was a
sign of strength and not weakness : "You have indeed grown," I
believe he tells Frodo, when Frodo would not let the other Hobbits
    kill him.

Aiya folks. Thinks have to get worse before they get better, I
    guess.
Working on the health-related schedule (no details to be given), and
while I was actually able to make tonight's raid, it did come at a
cost I didn't predict in this magnitude for the meeting.
    Time to catch up

    IorethToday at 6:18 PM
    That sounds ominous...

    Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:20 PM
I just meant it made me over 2 hours late
But I might as well comment on past stuff in the meeting as I go.
-As for showing the whole year of news: Not sure how that would
affect the loading time. I'd rather not have it too split apart,
since I may be looking for something in specific in topic if I'm
looking back, but most of the time I only go back one or two weeks
in advance to check I'm not reporting double gamign progress.
-Happy birthday to Professor Tolkien! It is good to celebrate his
life and the things he's given us. If the movie ever is on tv I'll
    certainly watch it!
-PvP in WoW is indeed optional. There are 2 modes, normal and
warmode, with players and npcs being phased from the other mode.
Only the capital cities of Orgrimmar and Stormwind see them mixed.
-Death Knight panda had me a bit annoyed, since I'm planning a red
panda female dk myself. It's like Blizz stole my idea!

    Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 6:35 PM
    Alright, caught up.
And I do remember something about Morgoth being so far gone that he
wanted to destroy everything he hadn't created, and even if he'd
destroyed everything, the ruins would still not satisfy him, for
    they were not truly his.
That might be from Lost Tales.
..And apparently the gryphon wrangling world quest in WoW is a lot
harder to do if your passive talent is actively healing the gryphon
as you're trying to wear it down.

    Personal gaming report!
    top

    Flashgaming:
    https://www.kongregate.com/games/m0rkeulv/castle-wars-2-5
for the first game! One in a series, I think I've seen one of the
others before but this one was new to me. A turn based card/strategy
game where you construct a deck and use the cards to build your own
economy and castle while bringing down the opponent's. Interesting
deck setup... you can basically put in all the cards you want, but
for efficiency you'll have to stick with a lower amount to make sure
you get the cards you need.
        Kongregate
        Castle Wars 2.5
Castle wars 2.5 is a turn based strategic card
game built on Ants (Game) and the Arco mage concept.
The game mechanics are similar to games in the
    same genre s...
Comes in an explorable map/campaign as well as other modes.

    https://www.kongregate.com/games/snowroadgames/gragyriss-captor-of-princesses
is the second game, also new to me, but a lot of fun
half-idle game, where you start with an egg and a field of grass,
and have to build up a resource system to feed your dragon that'll
eventually operate fully automatically. Bunch of upgrades to buy and
your dragon to level and stat up, with the ultimate goal to defeat
all the enemy forces on the map by luring them to you and defeating
    them.
        Kongregate
        Gragyriss, Captor of Princesses
A strategy game about dragon lifedevour lambs,
grow stronger, raid settlements, fight weak humans, elves and
    undead, kidnap beautiful princesses
Also comes with princesses to capture to give you special buffs and
    abilities.
It's not too long, but there's also an endless mode with a fourth
princess and a lot of tough waves to get through. See how far you
    get!

    https://www.kongregate.com/games/whiteboardwar/creeper-world-2-academy
    for the third! I've played it before and probably linked it before;
part of the creeper world franchise of which I've also played the
full desktop game. I'm currently going through the entire series,
both offline and online, and am currently on this online
    installment.
        Kongregate
        Creeper World 2: Academy
Think you saved humanity...? Not so fast!
On the eve of your glorious campaign to retake
the galaxy a new threat emerges.
Fight the Creeper in a new environme...
Build up a network (or in this case, also excavate the underground
below you) to collect energy and research tech, build and advance
with weapons, and make your way down the map to defeat all the
liquid creeper, the emitters it comes from, and other enemies that
    harass you.

    Blizzard gaming:
    Heroes of the Storm:
No new levels got. Brawl was fun, using both my oldest (and highest)
level hero Valla and one of the lesser experienced ones (Butcher) to
aid in victories. Butcher can be quite good with the right build and
careful play, became practically invincible at the end

Still continuing on the event, am currently in the last main quest
before completing the board. The only one that is role-specific
rather than doable with every hero, it requires 3 games with
assassins. Still, it's among the easier ones, since you don't have
to grind unusual objectives in the matches but can just play
    normally.
Previous quest was interesting, requiring 12 mercenary camps
captured. I was making small progress, but eventually ended up with
Gul'dan in the Blackheart's Bay map, which has a large amount of
merc camps, and I managed to grab 10 in that one game!
    Hearthstone:
Still pushing on, got a couple of wins with my least-wins class,
druid. Fun class, but wasn't very good at it until I recently
    updated my deck.
Still constantly getting quests to play with 3 classes rather than
win, so even if I'm having a bad streak with my chosen deck I'll
    still get it easily.
New brawl this week: Just Macaws. You choose a class, get 7 class
spells and 23 macaws, birds which give random beasts to your hand
when played. Lot of luck required, took a while. Ended up winning by
getting a lot of good beasts
With the new solo adventure coming, I'm currently saving up my gold.
It'll require a lot of it, but there's a lot to be gained; two
separate storylines and 35 new card rewards just from the adventure.
    WoW:
    No, wait! More
    Heroes of the Storm news.
I did get one level, apparently, from 382 to 383. Got D.Va to 10,
giving me a hero-specific lootbox. I was kinda hoping for the
Deathwing-skin I absolutely love for her, but didn't get it, so in
celebration of level 10 I decided to craft it myself with shards

You just have to look at the fanart to see that D.Va the Destroyer
skin is widely popular among fans, and I agree with them  I'm
already getting quite good at playing her, and this makes it even
    more enjoyable.
I did have some luck with the lootboxes this week, however, getting
2 legendary train mounts from this event. That's really lucky!
    WoW:
Raiding going steadily. This was our last raid before the patch,
since we're taking tuesday off, but since the raid doesn't come in
until a week later, we've still got one week of Palace to go.
With the Black Empire patch incoming, I decided to change my
shapeshifting artifact forms for guardian and feral, to fit the
    theme.
Black owlkin for cat, black werebear for bear. The latter is quite
niche and limited in animations etc, but with the upcoming patch
it'll get a unique dance, based on Pee Wee Herman's Tequila dance

So I got to try them out in this week's raids, and they were quite
appreciated, especially the bear :stuck_out_tongue: Just wait until
they see the dance next week!
Battleground week this week; apparently guardian spec isn't just
good for arena, it's rather dangerous in battlegrounds as well.
Guarding bases, carrying flags, and keeping whole groups of enemy
    players occupied
Even carried all 3 flags home in a Twin Peaks win
Got the gladiator boots as a random reward from the weekly quest,
and the cloak from the current conquest grind, having reached 500
this week. Thanks to some luck with past drops as well, it was the
first season where I managed to complete the entire gladiator set on
time, and not a week too soon!
A bit tired this week, with going back to work and having trouble
sleeping, but I did manage to make myself time to finally do the
level 70 necklace quest. Short questline with Kalecgos and the blue
dragonflight, leading up to the maximum rank of the Crucible of
    Flame essence.
Really wanted to get that done before the patch, and I did!
8.3 is gonna be quite busy too, though. Story-wise I'm still back in
8.1.5, with 8.2 almost untouched, but it's vital that I throw myself
    at the 8.3 story first.
I'm gonna need to unlock the cloak, the new essences and more
through a lengthy storyline to get enough corruption resistance; my
ideal weapon drops from the second boss in the raids so I've got a
maximum of 2 weeks to get at least 6 resistance to not get too
inconvenienced wielding it. Otherwise I'll just have to carry it
    with me.
So the previous patches will have to go on hold until I get at least
    the minimum done.
Oh, and I got a new toy from that necklace quest as well, the Heart
of a Champion, allowing you to hold the necklace in front of you in
a display of power for up to 10 minutes.
    (gets boring fast though)
    And that's it for me!
    Busy times ahead
Thus is my report for the week!

Oh, and I changed my Discord icon to one of my favorite fanarts of
my favorite MLP character. No more Pinkie Pie for now, in comes
    princess Luna!
