Eonwe sent a hello, figures he'll be away but made sure we had
gaming news first. : )
Good to see the gang here on Discord!
Any news anyone would like to pass along?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:10 PM
....8.2 next week?
VardaToday at 4:10 PM
Fangorn and I had the fun of seeing Bilbo's little twins yesterday.
: )
ArienValarToday at 4:11 PM
Aiya Marigold  and great
VardaToday at 4:11 PM
Oh, and Sauron was with us. : )
ElrondToday at 4:11 PM
aiya
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:11 PM
Aiya!
ArienValarToday at 4:11 PM
What are they called then? Elladan and Elrohir?
VardaToday at 4:12 PM
Hah! That would be fun. Elladan is taken already.
And it's a boy and girl, fraternals.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:12 PM
Hrrm. Were there any male/female twins in
Tolkien's works?
VardaToday at 4:13 PM
They are starting to do pull ups onto furniture and people.
Mixed twins? Good question. I can only think of sames.
ArienValarToday at 4:13 PM
ah right .. fun age that ^^
how many twin pairs are there?
VardaToday at 4:13 PM
Boy, let's see...
Elladan and Elrohir that you mentioned. Elrond and Elros.
Must run in their family. : )
Amrod and Amras
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:15 PM
Among the Valar perhaps?
Manwe and Melkor were considered brothers
VardaToday at 4:15 PM
Makar and Meassa
Elured and Elurin
ArienValarToday at 4:16 PM
who were Makar and Meassa?
i cant remember those
VardaToday at 4:17 PM
Valar that were dropped later.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:17 PM
Book of Lost Tales, I think.
Maybe later still?
ArienValarToday at 4:17 PM
ah
VardaToday at 4:17 PM
They were too violent for what he later envisioned.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:17 PM
But orcs and balrogs and dragons are fine!
VardaToday at 4:18 PM
For the kind of characters, I mean
ArienValarToday at 4:18 PM
not to meention wights and ringwraiths ~
VardaToday at 4:19 PM
He wanted the Valar to be a different sort. Tulkas was the laughing
warrior for instance, not a dreadful type.
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:20 PM

VardaToday at 4:24 PM
Anyway, we could go on about the Lost Valar, of which our own Eonwe
is one!
or move on to the usual next part of the meeting and come back to
it?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:24 PM
Well, he survived in some form.
VardaToday at 4:25 PM
True.
Folcred and Fastred
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:25 PM
..I'll have to look those up.

VardaToday at 4:27 PM

Eonwe ValarToday at 4:29 PM
If we're looking for brother/sister pairs, Silmarien and her brother
would be a brother/sister pair, if I can remember who her brother
was, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:29 PM
Twins specifically, Eonwe
VardaToday at 4:30 PM
Tar-Meneldur
Then Isilme for a sister?
Ok, we're starting to tangent out here. : )
Let's move to

Web News
We actually have some. ; )
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:31 PM
I can't believe we have no article at all on SIlmarien.
VardaToday at 4:32 PM
You're right! Closest is:
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/t/Tar-Elendil.htm
Ok, we need some writing done!
Speaking of writing,
Mirabella-(V) is writing again. : )
Here's her new short story:
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authors/Mirabella/IntheMidstoftheField.htm
After the Storm
LotR fanfic after Faramir and Eowyn's marriage.
She's also been revising her very long piece, and we hope to be
seeing that in the future. : )
While thinking about Eowyn and Faramir, I was wondering when they
married.
I did find when they were betrothed and added that to the Timeline:
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/events/timeline/Great_Years.htm
The Great Years
Middle-earth Timeline for years 3018 and 3019
And got carried away adding in more events in that area of time.
RotK "Many Partings" is really loaded with a lot of info.
And wait, there's more.
A writer looking at our site for art for her article found the
Bohemian Weasel there.
We three got together and here you go:

But it has a picture in it of Sam and Frodo walking. : )
from us.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:40 PM
scrolls through fast, recognizes picture by Bohemian Weasel
immediately
VardaToday at 4:40 PM
I like that phoenix too, but can't claim it!
Turns out the writer has done a lot of novels, so it was nice
getting the artist and writer together. Maybe they can do more
together later.
I may have found another writer for us, but am having some trouble
with contact. We'll see. : )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:52 PM
Wait what? Pvp brawl? Did I miss that?
Hmm, no brawl in europe, anyway, nevermind.
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:53 PM
Hmm, that might actually be this coming week's PvP Brawl...
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:53 PM
Probably
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:53 PM
I probably shouldn't do gaming news at 6am, heh.
VardaToday at 4:54 PM
Have to do it sometime, and sometime can be 6 am. I have some
amazing flubs for similar time-related reasons, but fortunately we
have help!
ElrondToday at 4:54 PM
If you have Destiny 2 on your
Battlenet account (they gave it away for free for a bit), and
haven't played/activated it yet, might want to do it. Bungie and
Activision/Blizzard have parted ways, and in September all the Pay 2
Win items are going away, and they will (guessing by then) move
everything from Battlenet over to Bungie. If you sign up/activate
it, it does tell you "Notify me when I need to move my account over
to Bungie".
VardaToday at 4:55 PM
Oh thanks!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 4:55 PM
I have it, but not activated... doesn't seem my type of game.
Eonwe ValarToday at 4:56 PM
Corrected.
ElrondToday at 4:57 PM
Eve news,
the new CSM 14 was elected, a few people should be interesting
choices for sure.
The Northern War is going well, pretty much just a burn everything
and according to reddit, NC/PL have redeployed to Providence to
fight someone they can win against. The last Keepstar in Tribute
dies this week. Where we go from there, who knows.. probably more
burning and torching of space.
Celebrain and I will be playing Classic Wow a good bit once
it comes out, still wishy-washy if we are going horde or alliance.
We've enjoyed the stress tests we've been in.
That's all from me
VardaToday at 4:59 PM
Hey, you can do both. ; )
Thank you. That was a good chunk of news.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:00 PM
How does one burn space, I wonder..
VardaToday at 5:00 PM
Did anyone else want to mention more about their games' general
news?
ElrondToday at 5:00 PM
I like multiple titans myself @Ar-Pharazon-V
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:00 PM
heh
ArienValarToday at 5:02 PM
i did a bit in the Epic Quest Arc in Eve but not too much
still a very casual alpha
ElrondToday at 5:03 PM
On a side note, the 64 bit client in Eve works very well. I have
been running it on max graphics in the big fleets I have been on
with no issues at all.
VardaToday at 5:04 PM
Good to hear.
The 64-bit option for LotRO has been working well for me and
looks great, good on speed also.
Any other business, comments, suggestions, requests, invitation
needs?

Tolkien!
Two topics.
A quick one:
Did the name of the Shire cause difficulty
for the Enemy in trying to locate it?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:07 PM
Well, the Ringwraiths went up the eastshore of the Anduin first, so
it did give them a bit of trouble.
It wasn't well known among the big kingdoms, just a quiet little
area
ArienValarToday at 5:09 PM
They found the Hill though .. luckily only on the evening Frodo
departed
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:09 PM
Yep, a bit late in getting there.
Imagine if they hadn't been diverted..
VardaToday at 5:09 PM
Could the name itself have been a problem?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:09 PM
It didn't seem to be a common name.
ArienValarToday at 5:10 PM
and tracked the hobbits through shire .. they were hard on their
heels but managed to escape by *coincidentce * of he elves
approaching just then ^^
VardaToday at 5:10 PM
Every time I see those coincidences, the thought "Valar" comes up. :
)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:10 PM
If they hadn't gone east first, I wonder if the Valar would've given
Frodo some subtle clues that it'd be better to leave a few days
early.
VardaToday at 5:11 PM
Very likely.
Remember also that "shire" also refers to sections of land, and
there could have been many shires of that sort to confuse the issue.
This was not just any shire, but The Shire.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:12 PM
Seems a remarkably Hobbit-ish word though.
VardaToday at 5:12 PM
Especially in England, it can refer to a county.
Ok, for more on the thought, possibly a far reach, this link might
be fun to look at some time:
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:13 PM
I know, but still, in itself..
VardaToday at 5:13 PM
https://middle-earth.xenite.org/why-does-tolkien-call-the-hobbits-land-the-shire-in-the-lord-of-the-rings/
It does seem Hobbitish, since the Hobbits were based on rural
English folk partly at least.
top
To our next topic,
earlier we were talking about the Lost Valar.
What do we know about the Valar that were dropped from the
storyline?
Which ones can we name?
(Some were named earlier. Feel free to scroll back.)
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:16 PM
Hmm indeed, Makar and Meassa
VardaToday at 5:16 PM
There you go. : )
Our own Eonwe is named after one, rather than the herald.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:17 PM
Eonwe the uncanoned.
VardaToday at 5:17 PM
More comfortable than being cannoned?
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:17 PM
Probably!
I also recall 3 Ainur of time.
VardaToday at 5:18 PM
Back when he became a Vala, we were running out of unused Valar
names, so we dipped into these.
True!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:19 PM
The idea I got at the time was that even the established Valar were
unsure about what to do with those 3...
VardaToday at 5:20 PM
We could use an article on the Time Valar.
I didn't realize we didn't have one. So many ideas for articles we
could do come up at these meetings. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:21 PM
Ideas are wonderful things!
VardaToday at 5:21 PM
Two today: Silmarien, Time Valar, maybe twins.
Anyway, Irmo-(Valar) wrote quite a bit on the Lost Valar and others
of us joined in. It was very important both in scholarly interest
and because of our need for new names. : )
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/papers/LostValar.htm
One reason for the changes in the stories was the dropping of the
idea that the Valar would have children.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:23 PM
You might end up with a lot of Valar otherwise.
VardaToday at 5:23 PM
Eonwe was the son of Manwe and Varda, for instance.
Undying. They could cover all of creation.
Erinti was his sister.
The two of them were changed to Eonwe the Maia and Ilmare the Maia.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:24 PM
I once wrote a story in my head that, among many other things,
involved a cosmic force passing by a world and empowering some of
its inhabitants into godlike status, to see the world descend into
chaos and tyranny...
what it didn't count on was that those Gods would have children,
multiply, and basically drain him empty.
VardaToday at 5:25 PM
That is all too likely. People would need to be carefully brought
into the proper use of power for it to work.
Oh, more twins. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:25 PM
Right
VardaToday at 5:26 PM
Amillo and Salmar
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:26 PM
Ah!
Salmar.
For a moment I thought that was Gandalf's name.
VardaToday at 5:26 PM
We see Salmar referred to more as Noldorin, I think?
As usual, they all have a long string of names!
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:27 PM
Hmm, Gandalf was Olorin. Wonder what I was thinking of, then.
VardaToday at 5:27 PM
Knowing Valar Guild members helped keep me straight when starting
out, as they were alts of the same person.
Noldorin sounds a lot like Olorin. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:27 PM
No, from Salmar.
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:29 PM
Fionwë was the name of Eonwë as a Vala. Son of Manwë and Varda.
VardaToday at 5:30 PM
So we can call our Eonwe Fionwe if we want to keep the names
straight. : )
But more people know the Eonwe name and what he did, helping our
role-play.
top
Speaking of role-play,
Eonwe has added to our role-play story on the Forum. : )
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:32 PM
Looking at it, I'm thinking I may owe another one. I've laid out the
premise, but I haven't carried anything forward to action.
VardaToday at 5:32 PM
Maybe not owe, but we'd love to read it.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:32 PM
Sounds good
VardaToday at 5:33 PM
Been trying to figure out my character's reaction but it seems
mostly she'd be listening for more data.
Which is a reaction too. : )
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:34 PM
I'll make this next one quicker than the last, lol.
VardaToday at 5:34 PM
That would be good. ; )

Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:35 PM
Maybe I should make a post where Calion sits in silence waiting for
Auros to continue talking.
VardaToday at 5:36 PM
At this point, it's not all on Eonwe to post. We can toss something
in there. And that was a wonderful, meaty post.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:36 PM
It was
VardaToday at 5:37 PM
Is there anything you'd like us to say as some kind of foil to work
from? I'll try to toss one in, in any case.
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:38 PM
Nothing particular just yet.
VardaToday at 5:39 PM
I made a quick post.
the gavel walks up with a drippy quill pen
splopppp!
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:40 PM
How is it calling to Auros?
VardaToday at 5:40 PM
the hammerpad grabs the nearest beard and wipes itself off
top
After-meeting!
Free chat. : )
Aye, how is it calling to Auros?
It seems as if he's remembering the call rather than telling it to
us.
With a sigh, Auros added, "I suspect the answers can be found in
Angmar. That is where the spirit inhabiting Calion's brother is
heading, and it seems he has invited me to find him there."
So this is a reply to the "invited me to find him"
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:41 PM
He's remembering Calaron's words to him.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:41 PM
Well, that happened way back in Mirkwood.
Indeed, it was Calaron that made the invite.
VardaToday at 5:41 PM
ahh , ok, so not a new one from the weapon.
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:42 PM
It's clearer when the posts don't take a year to write, lol. My
fault of course, but yeah, that was supposed to be remembering
Calaron's words in Mirkwood.
VardaToday at 5:42 PM
Changed.
Maybe a reference back to that would help?
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:43 PM
That's what the next line was supposed to make clear :}
'With a sigh, Auros added, "I suspect the answers can be found in
Angmar. That is where the spirit inhabiting Calion's brother is
heading, and it seems he has invited me to find him there." '
VardaToday at 5:44 PM
Okie dokie.
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:44 PM
Italics as I've done to indicate Auros' inner thought, double quotes
to indicate dialogue, then a line after to indicate where that
memory came from.
Makes sense in my head if nowhere else :}
VardaToday at 5:45 PM
My error came from thinking the dagger talked to him while being
examined.
Quite a leap really.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:45 PM
Indeed, the source of the invite... it could've been possible
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:46 PM
Well, I think in this version (yes version, I've been through a few)
I did leave in indications that there may be more than Auros is
discussing.
VardaToday at 5:46 PM
Leave him more to tell or reveal in the future. : )
ArienValarToday at 5:48 PM
sees a ghostly scythe in front of Auros "foollooow meee .. if iss
ansswers you seek first askk you musst .. foooloow me
Eonwe ValarToday at 5:48 PM
For those who like visual examples, I think something like the
begining of the Fellowship of the Ring movie where Gandalf stoops
over to touch the Ring would be close enough to what I'm going for.
ArienValarToday at 5:49 PM
*is it a dagger i see before me?"
oops that was something else :_)
VardaToday at 5:49 PM
: )
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:49 PM
Nice callback to the Shakespeare we were talking about earlier
though
ArienValarToday at 5:51 PM
hehe for me something else is calling back i fear ..
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 5:51 PM

My friends, I must be off now :} But I will say for your speculating
pleasure, that if you remember that my last two posts are
essentially two parts, and read them as one, there should be some
fun speculation to be had :}

Right! Personal gaming report!
Actually a pretty good week for flashgames;
I'm usually missing 0 to 2 badges of the day out of the 7 for each
week, but this week was a strange exception where I was missing 5.
So I had lots to play and try, and there were some other sources as
well.
So plenty of choice to give the 3 flashgames I enjoyed the most
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/ghosts_took_my_camera
is the first game! A platformer where your goal is to capture ghosts
with your camera, but the ghosts run away with it, so you need to
follow, using items you can pick up from the air and then put down
where you need it.
Ghosts Took My Camera - OneMoreLevel.com
Hint: You can push boxes around after placing it down, and put
objects on top of them as well.
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Moonkey/hexiom
for the second game! A puzzle game where the tiles have numbers on
them, and you need to move the tiles in such a way that each number
matches the amount of adjacent tiles. Starts easy, gets difficult
Kongregate
Hexiom
The object of Hexiom is to arrange all tiles in a
way that they are adjacent to exactly the number of other tiles as
they are showing.
Includes 40 levels which...
https://www.kongregate.com/games/NoaDev/fireblob
is the last game! Another platformer, where you play a blob on fire,
and have to light the bonfires, while avoiding other blobs, running
over melting paths of ice, and pressing buttons.
Kongregate
FireBlob
Melts ice blocks to reach the goal!
Not too difficult, but decent planning and timing will be necessary
as you go along

Heroes of the Storm:
Still level 347. Had some bad luck with the brawls, heroes I wasn't
familiar with. Valeera's quite difficult to play with for the
unexperienced...
Mechastorm event has started, complete with a large series of
quests, but we've still got two and a half months to complete it, so
should be fine. Multiple series of 3 quests, in fact, and you can
switch between them whenever you like, is nice to fit the daily
quests.
Total of 21 quests, some harder than others... there's 3 that
require getting an award though, which is probably my least favorite
kind of quest, but I got 2 of them done already. So that's nice!
According to the quest list, I've got 19% of the quests complete.
Not bad going for half a week.

Hearthstone:
All 9 classes have now made progress to the next level  Brawl
this week was making a deck using only cards from 3 specific
expansions. Luckily I got away with hitting a random class (the one
that most needed experience at the time) and letting the game
complete the deck for me. That usually doesn't work for brawls, but
with expansion-specific ones it apparently works quite well!
Got my first poke at the Dalaran Heist, after getting a quest for
it. First hero, first wing, 3 bosses. It's basically a normal
solo-experience like in previous expansions, as the newer features
need to be unlocked or come later on. There was one wing-specific
change, but it doesn't seem that useful. Still, it's good to know
the quest exists, and I'm sure I'll poke the place some more later
on

WoW:
Raidbreak. We didn't get Uu'nat down on heroic and patch will come
out in a couple of days, so we're giving it another week after this
and going back there when a few people have got a few essences.
Which is a new mechanic in the patch.
You'd think raidbreak would give me time to do a few things, but
it's been a busy week, and the weekly quest being timewalks didn't
help, though I did get em all done, so maybe I can do some stuff in
the next two days...
Other than that.. ehr... not much new! Did more world quests, got no
new supplies... did a warfront, got no progress to event
achievement... did more expeditions, got nothing new, though I do
now have about a quarter of the dubloons needed for the next item.
Midsummer's going, and I need 300 blossoms for the new hearthstone
toy, but haven't poked that much yet. Still got time.
Oh, but out of game, I did finally catch up on wowhead news again
and made some plans for the patch, including essences I'll want and
their sources. But it'll still be a while before I'm actually ready
to tackle that content.
So, ehrr... yes. Quiet week. But with lots of stuff out of the way,
hopefully next week will be better...
And that's my report for the week!
(part of being busy was that against my better judgement I found a
few new webcomics I liked and spent some hours archive-binging)
VardaToday at 7:45 PM
Essences? We use essences in LotRO. I wonder if they're similar.
Ar-Pharazon-VToday at 7:46 PM
Essences in WoW are sort of like the original glyph system, but for
the special necklace for this expansion.
Collect them from various sources, upgrade them through said
sources, and apply up to 3 to your necklace to get new powers.
