Logged into my beorning. Been a few years. I forgot how to play,
almost completely
Eonwe ValarYesterday at 6:30 AM
Heya All :} Just stopping in to say hi and hope you're all having

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:14 PM
Days off, eh? Good, tomorrow first episode of season 8 - oh wait,
wrong fandom.
VardaYesterday at 4:15 PM
GoT?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:15 PM
yep
Oh wait, that's tonight. But I'll watch it tomorrow, if I can find
it.
VardaYesterday at 4:15 PM
heh, we are a Tolkien and gaming group, but we all have other
interests too. ; )
Time zone weirdness. It's today for the US, I believe.

Web:
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:16 PM
Well, which means it's today for us too.
But it'll be late at night.
Or... something.
shrug tomorrow it is
VardaYesterday at 4:17 PM
We have been having difficulty with our ftp (file transfer protocol)
reaching the Valar Guild's host (Hostgator), but it finally came
back to working last night.
It's wizard time, Phar. It's there when you get to it.
So we web folk apologize for the deadness of the site for the last
few days.
The Ghan-buri-Ghan article is now updated, adding in appearances
mainly.
http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/g/Ghan-buri-Ghan.htm
Ghân-buri-ghân
Article: the great headman Ghân-buri-ghân of the
Woses, aka Wild Men
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:18 PM
Hmm, maybe I've not visited the right pages, but it seemed to work
fine for me the last few days.
VardaYesterday at 4:18 PM
The site was up, but we could add no new content.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:19 PM
Aah.
VardaYesterday at 4:19 PM
So things like updating that article and the Games Site had to sit.
We are back to sizzling along again, so feel free to send in stuff
and give me a push if it doesn't go up quickly!

Gaming:
Lord of the Rings Online:
I'm bringing this up first as it is the most important to our group.
Falco's LotRO account has been hacked.
He has characters on both Ithil and Landroval.
Each character starts with the letters: Lj
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:22 PM
Ouch. I hope he won't lose too much before he gets it back.
VardaYesterday at 4:22 PM
If you see them come online, they are not him. You can double-check
in Discord, as Falco's name won't have that game name under it if
it's the bad guy.
If you see this skunk, put in a ticket right away.
This was a great suggestion from Falco which I am sorry not to have
thought of right away, but you've heard it now. : )
ElladanYesterday at 4:23 PM
huzzah! I made it
VardaYesterday at 4:23 PM
Apparently they got to him by hacking his email, which he quickly
re-passworded, but too late for that account.
Yay for Elladan!
Saw your character showed up on Landroval! The one over a year old
has been reinstated as a Full Member. Have fun!
ElladanYesterday at 4:25 PM
I swear... with the almost animated look of the low clouds, and the
green rolling hills here, I couldn't help but think maybe I'm a
hobbit at heart. I looked, and, if the homes interspersed among the
hills were hobbit homes, it would be like I was dropped into
Tolkien's world.
That, and now I'm permashort due to the wheelchair lol
Still working on hairy feet.. -_-
Oh great!
Thank you!
VardaYesterday at 4:26 PM
Maybe fuzzy socks? : )
ElladanYesterday at 4:26 PM
haha
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:26 PM
Stick your feet under the carpet.
ElladanYesterday at 4:26 PM
I had forgotten most everything in the game
I don't have carpets
VardaYesterday at 4:26 PM
It's new again!
Then socks it is!
ElladanYesterday at 4:26 PM
yes, I really don't want to start from level 1 again though
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:26 PM
Or a blanket! The options are.. well, not limitless, but plural at
least.
VardaYesterday at 4:26 PM
Don't have to.
Putter around the early areas again, re-learning how to use skills.
Make sure all your traits have been filled in, that sort of thing.
ElladanYesterday at 4:27 PM
yep.. that's another thing. so much has changed hah
VardaYesterday at 4:27 PM
For those few who use the deed tomes, Eonwe gave us this news:
Deed Tomes are being removed from class trainers in the next update.
If you need them ,you better get them now. See the announcement for
more details.
https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?672285-Upcoming-Change-To-Class-Trainers-And-Deed-Tomes
Upcoming Change To Class Trainers And Deed Tomes
Our next game update will include a change to
Class Trainers to remove the ability to purchase Deed Tomes from
them. These tomes were originally added to these trainers for gold
to assist players who had redeemed an Aria of the Valar during a
time frame in 2017 before we adde...
This won't affect most of us, as we generally work our way up
through levels to enjoy Middle-earth.
Any other LotRO news?
I'll probably add in the brag list, er, list of kinmates that showed

Here's a copy/paste:
Eonwe ValarToday at 6:30 AM
Heya All :} Just stopping in to say hi and hope
you're all having fun :}
Take care all :}
Any other news, suggestions, etc?
Another reminder to put in a ticket if you see any Lj
characters on LotRO's Ithil or Landroval.
Let's get our Falco taken care of!
Eve Online:
ArienVYesterday at 4:44 PM
I havent been playing Eve recently mind you but i got an email with
a promotion offering free sub scriber status for a week , with a
njumber of free training points and double speed i think
double training speed
VardaYesterday at 4:44 PM
Nice! Grab it anyone that can!
ArienVYesterday at 4:45 PM
normally you spend ages training your pilot up .. so thats a nice
boon , i hope you can fly what you train even as alpha , that is
free player
In Eve training takes real life time
so low skills only hours and high skills a few months
which in la way is good , so it doesnt really matter whether you
play a pilot of ten but on the other hand its hard on those quick
lquick quick to endgame player types
that is all i wanted to mention
VardaYesterday at 4:49 PM
Thanks, Arien. : )
On to
top
Tolkien!
The talk of Eve started a thought on sailing
ships in Tolkien's work.
Some even flew! Some traveled a mysterious way, others were
marvelous work on the ocean, and there were others.
Which ones flew?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:52 PM
I do believe Arien flew one of them.
VardaYesterday at 4:52 PM
Ah hah!
ArienVYesterday at 4:52 PM
a ship ~
VardaYesterday at 4:52 PM
Also each of the stars were sailing ships.
ArienVYesterday at 4:52 PM
a barge to be more exact
nice one  nice picture to see the sky as a giant ocean with
a host of beacon ships
pretty picture
VardaYesterday at 4:54 PM
That one should be fun for our artists, aye. : )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:54 PM
A bit like floating lanterns.
VardaYesterday at 4:54 PM
Earendil flew Vingilot, the sailing ship that we think of as the
morning star.
What kind of ships sailed on a mysterious way, not the regular
ocean?
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:56 PM
Those elven ships that went the straight road?
VardaYesterday at 4:56 PM
Right!
ArienVYesterday at 4:57 PM
hmm that boat that had Boromirs corpse in? it was a rowing boat but
it was sent down the Rauros fall but survied that unharmed which no
normal boat should
especially not with all the candldes burning eh?>
candles ..
VardaYesterday at 4:57 PM
Faramir saw a boat carrying Boromir in a vision.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 4:58 PM
Hmm, that was an interesting boat indeed.
VardaYesterday at 4:58 PM
It would be interesting if it hit a straight path for a bit
going over the falls. : )
(Quick, write a fan fiction!)
ArienVYesterday at 4:58 PM
m;ay be its water , and Ulmo is in every water in Middleearlth :)#
VardaYesterday at 4:59 PM
Good point. Ulmo and his people are in all the waters. Even those
underground.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:00 PM
takes a sip of water really now...
VardaYesterday at 5:00 PM
I think they figured out survival. ; )
Probably avoid getting into glasses and canteens.
Lothlorien is known to have swan-boat, at least one.
That was probably made with the memory of the swan-boats of the
Teleri.
Numenoreans used ships.
I believe Phar might remember tales of a forebear that was bad about
felling a lot of lumber for ships.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:05 PM
Yes... a practice started by Aldarion, I believe, but there was one
way worse...
Ciryatan?
ArienVYesterday at 5:06 PM
yes indeed
The High Captain of the tale i linked last i think
last week
The Hobbits used rowing boats , at least some
it was the Stoors that were less afraid of the water and boats i
think?
Pippin knew how to handle a boat
while Sam didnt like them one bit .. and one remembers the story of
Frodos parents who drowned in a boating accident
VardaYesterday at 5:09 PM
Tar-Ciryatan, aye.
The Stoors were more of the waterman type. Tooks and Brandybucks
could handle boats. Frodo most likely learned from them.
Agreeing with Arien here. : )
ArienVYesterday at 5:11 PM
but there were other means of transport of course
VardaYesterday at 5:12 PM
Have we mentioned Corsairs yet? : )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:12 PM
Oh yes! Those King's Men that founded a harbor south of Gondor and
came raiding north.
ArienVYesterday at 5:12 PM
carts, horses .. .. uh the corsairs were descended from the Black
Numenoreans who mingled with some local folk in the conquered
area I think, so they had it in their blood
Not to forget the Nazgul mounts .. dragon like creatures
the flying ones
VardaYesterday at 5:14 PM
Aye.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:14 PM
Wraiths on wings!
VardaYesterday at 5:14 PM
And there were the boats at Dol Amroth.
Legolas built a boat to go to Valinor the long way around, taking
Gimli along and having adventures.
He may have learned about ship-building from Imrahil?
ElladanYesterday at 5:15 PM
I love reading your insights here each week. Makes it a richer
experience. Much I didn't know, much I have forgotten
VardaYesterday at 5:15 PM
and much we help you remember. : )
ArienVYesterday at 5:16 PM
ElladanYesterday at 5:16 PM
I just got a call, a friend is on their way over. Earlier than
expected. Will have to go in a few minutes
yes that's what I was saying. You help me remember
ArienVYesterday at 5:16 PM
Have a nice time with your friend
VardaYesterday at 5:16 PM
We are about to call it an After-meeting too. : )
ArienVYesterday at 5:16 PM
nice to see you
VardaYesterday at 5:16 PM
Good timing.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:16 PM
Have fun, Elladan!
ElladanYesterday at 5:16 PM
Thanks, everyone! Gotta find Bogey his Rescue Remedy
rain is starting...
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:17 PM
Horses are like.. ships on the land, right?
ArienVYesterday at 5:17 PM
gg .. mentioning mountst I could name the Mumak of the
Haradrim .. they are like .. walking houses?
VardaYesterday at 5:17 PM
Covered wagons were called ships of the land, as the grass they
traveled through was long and rippled in the wind like water.
ElladanYesterday at 5:18 PM
Yikes! Gotta cover my baby veggies! Hail outside! Namarie!! poof
VardaYesterday at 5:18 PM
Save them!
ElladanYesterday at 5:18 PM
yep

VardaYesterday at 5:19 PM
Yay lurkers!
the gavel slips through the tall vases on the great table
it jumps out like a pogo stick and lands on the hammerpad
thonk!
the vases laugh at getting to be a part of the festivities
the hammerpad looses a puff of fireworks
the gavel scoots happily back to the shelf

A very great pleasure to be in the company of such lovely people. :
)
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:26 PM
vases, eh
Been redecorating?
VardaYesterday at 5:26 PM
It's a big table!
Should I mention the long runner down the middle? ; )
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:26 PM
What's that?
VardaYesterday at 5:27 PM
And all our goblets and gold plates, fruit and nut bowls?
A runner is like a table-cloth usually down the middle of the table.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:27 PM
Ah.
Fancy.
VardaYesterday at 5:28 PM
Put the candles, vases, and big yummies on it.
ArienVYesterday at 5:29 PM
A reminder as well from the April fools I absolutely love
gives me still a chuckle
VardaYesterday at 5:29 PM
ahh, we should have a bunch of good stories there!
ArienVYesterday at 5:29 PM
Paladin
Light of Dawn is now more energy efficient and automatically turns
off if you leave the room.
First Avenger only understood a few of the references in these
patch notes.
Repentance has been renamed Shame. It now has 3 charges, which
can be reset by ringing a bell.
Inquisition is now baseline, and activates randomly without
warning. No one expects Inquisition!
VardaYesterday at 5:29 PM

Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 5:29 PM
hehe
I remember smirking at that repentance note.
Did not do that often for this year's april fools.

Personal gaming report:
3 flashgames first!
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/mondars_dungeon
is the first! I've shown you a roguelike cardgame before, but this
is quite a different one. It plays more like a boardgame, with cards
to place and stacks of cards to turn over. Get as far as you can,
grab the loot, reveal the doors... and if you figure out how to heal
yourself, you'll probably get further than I did
Mondar's Dungeon - OneMoreLevel.com
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 7:16 PM
http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/bubbun
is the second game! A platformer where you play a bunny, collect
carrots, and shoot bubbles you can stand on to climb or ride over
spikes. Simple, but takes a bit of practice. Good luck
Bubbun - OneMoreLevel.com
And http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/pear_picker
is the third! Move from left to right, and up and down to extend
your neck, to pick pears from the tree! Avoid bats and thorns, and
try to fill up fast enough to complete the bar

Blizzard gaming:
Well, I gave in and bought Warcraft 1  Haven't managed
to try it yet though. I assume it works well!
The install file made it through okay, at least!
Heroes of the Storm:
Quests for the event completed, so all the fancy new rewards got.
Good thing too, I think there's only a couple of days left.
From level 338 to level 340, with one level for Sylvanas and one
level for Falstad who I ended up picking for a brawl (again a
single-lane 5v5, I think I'll leave that part out from now on until
it's not), and who got to level 2 from it. Fun hero, bit squishy,
but a Hammerang build seemed to work okay.
Ar-Pharazon-VYesterday at 7:54 PM
Hearthstone:
Had good fun with the starter quests for the expansion, with a lot
of card packs for rewards. They were quite generic in nature, like
play a certain amount of cards or 3 games. So I used it to decrease
the differences in xp between all my classes. They're now all pretty
close together, at least two thirds through the levels. Looking good
going forward! Brawl this week was an advanced arena thing, and I
never bother with those anyway
Now at over 2000 gold, so saving for the upcoming adventure is going
quite well!
Warcraft 1 update:
Just installed it, and tested it out. It includes the intro cutscene
and the map animations at the start of each level, so it seems quite
complete
It goes through dosbox, but launches itself automatically, so
there's no fiddling.
WoW:
Finally some raiding progress! We got Conclave done earlier in the
week, and Rastakhan today, both on heroic difficulty. So now wé're
at 6 out of 9. We've had some attempts at Mekkatorque, but as on
normal, the coordination between bot-saboteurs is a bit clunky.
We've not killed him on normal in a while either, so we need to get
back into it a bit more.
Pandaria raiding is going okay, I got one more of the new pets, the
Azure Windseeker. And only one pet is missing now from the Mogushan
Terrace before we can leave that place behind. Almost there now!
Weekly this week is timewalks, yep. Got through smoothly with my two
timewalking alts, and since I usually dread tanking one with my
warrior, it was a relief that it went so well. Got 4 out of 5 done
with my main (druid), will finish up tomorrow.
I finished up one of my longer term projects, visiting Argus in the
Antorus raid from the previous expansion 20 times, once per week, to
finish upgrading all 4 of the old trinkets. I won't be using them,
but I just wanted to have them all maxed out. And that's now done!
I also visited the Darkmoon Faire a few more times, and got the
other two balloon pets: murloc and wolf! They're also quite big, but
look very nice  For the literature fans among us, I
named the wolf balloon "Buoywulf", referencing a certain classic
tale
And other than that, more world quests! Got enough pet charms for
one more pet from Dodger, the Ranishu Runt. I'd not heard of that
beetle-like race before, but apparently there's horde quests around
them. The pet is usually unlocked through that, but since Dodger is
the one who smuggles horde-only pets to alliance, I managed to get
one without ever knowing what the little things are about.
World quests also gave me enough service medals to buy the new
panther mount, for 750 of them, the most expensive thing to buy with
them. I've still got a lot more of them to get, but the amount to
save for each item is a lot less now. Panther itself can fly, which
is nice!
And through emissaries/paragon rewards I got the pufferfish bowl
from the Tortollans, a toy which allows you to pick up pufferfish
and throw them at players and npcs to make them glow with various
colours. Quite festive
And finally, I completed the Sabertron Assemble achievement! Quite
an odd one, that. It requires various versions of the same world
quest, which in itself doesn't pop up very often, and then the
color of the sabertron is random. You need all 4, in addition to a
fifth which you can get whenever the world quest is not up, to get
the achievement, and it was over half a year since the green color
was last up in the EU. But with that done, all are assembled for me!
And that's my report for the week!
