Nothing new posted. I did make an outline for the Fall of Gondolin, as it has to do with the Powers, but not for publishing. Be fun for tonight's chat, maybe though.
If anyone else has a subject, please let me know. More than one is also good.

Varda - Last Sunday at 4:16 PM
The 11th Anniversary is still going. You have time to work on what you started last year, or on the new Year 11 quests.
A bit of lag time?

Well i ve seen Pallando and Elrond last week in the chanlel and Sauron a couple of days ago before work
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:18 PM
Very good.
Sauron started playing more once he had a second monitor screen available.
Pallando-Valar - Last Sunday at 4:18 PM
15th anniversary
I'm starting to get back into Eve after about a month and a half off myself. Battletech absorbed me the past week...
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:19 PM
my corp has been wardecked  one day after i joined .. typical .. and so i am a bit laying low there and  doing a bit with my alts  ^^
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:20 PM
If I had a second monitor I'd probably end up playing less just because of being distracted more easily.
Elrond - Last Sunday at 4:20 PM
Bunch of free things given out for the anniversary on the 6th..
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:20 PM
oh yeah i took up their offer for a halfpriced  three month sub
Elrond - Last Sunday at 4:20 PM
Since pretty much everyone knows now, our coalition is deploying to go to war. Should be fun.

ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:24 PM
aiya ;0
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:24 PM
Aranuir, aiya. : )
I show Aranuir as offline, but hi anyway. And he is showing now in LotRO. Had some connection problems for a while.
Happy to say that Gorlim's fix for my new computer seems to be working quite well, even if it does make the computer hiss, it lets LotRO stay up. /dance
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:27 PM
hissing can't be good
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:27 PM
and no Aranuir in LotRO, so he may still be having connection problems.
Aye. Hoping to figure a workaround on that hiss too.
Aranuir(Aarfon) - Last Sunday at 4:27 PM
no i just logged out
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:27 PM
o good.
Funny, Discord says you're offline. Computer weirdness.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:28 PM
Mine started to make more noise as well, but I think that's because temperature is starting to increase.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:28 PM
Glad you could all make it.
From an email from Eonwe, he's hoping to get to go see the new Avengers movie sometime tonight. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:29 PM
Good luck and fun to Eonwe!
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:30 PM
He was going to make a stab at some time in the meeting, but timing is tough.
Kudos to all of you that manage to make it here despite all odds!
Any other gaming news? Business? Suggestions?

LotRO multi-kin run tonight, invites start at 7:45. Good luck to any of us that make it in! [Note: Abyss of Mordath raid went all the way through.]

Tolkien:
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:32 PM
Good luck!
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:33 PM
The Fall of Gondolin is a section of the Silmarillion that Christopher Tolkien went to the extreme trouble of making into a full book from all those notes, coming out this year.
Meanwhile, we have the Silmarillion version and the notes scattered about to hunt with indices.
It's one of those battles where the Powers slip in there.
Not as thickly as in the battle at Troy, but definitely in there.
What was Gondolin?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:35 PM
T'was a city on a raised plateau ringed by mountains.
Hidden from Morgoth.
Founded by Turgon at a warning from Ulmo.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:35 PM
Aye. This gave it the other name of the Hidden Kingdom.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:35 PM
I think?
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:35 PM
So there's Ulmo, a Power, involved.
Turgon had to make a tunnel (hey, his people probably did most of the digging) to make a secret way out of his old kingdom.
It had to remain hidden.
On the way to the new place, he was instructed by Ulmo to leave something behind for a person who would come from Ulmo later. What was it?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:38 PM
I'm thinking armor and a shield, but probably wrong on one of them.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:38 PM
That's correct
Turgon was commanded by Ulmo to leave a shield and hauberk, helm and sword at the deserted halls of Vinyamar beneath Mt. Taras.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:39 PM
Ah, a sword.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:39 PM
Who was the person selected by Ulmo to eventually wear that? Or at least what race was the person?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM
That would be Tuor! A hooman of the house of Hador.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM
(Anyone can toss their guess or knowledge out here.)
hehe - right, a hooman named Tuor
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:40 PM
Right, should I give other people a chance?
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:41 PM
No. They can feel free to type too, more than one giving answers is fine.
Type faster, gang!
Ok to type after too, if you're still typing.
Turgon sent ships to the West, trying to get forgiveness and help against Morgoth. Only one person made it back from those trips. Any idea who? He was tossed up on shore near Tuor.
Ulmo was behind that too.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:43 PM
I'm thinking Voronwe, but that might have been someone in Turin's story.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:43 PM
Right on both counts.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:44 PM
He's in both?
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:44 PM
While Tuor and Voronwe were on their way to Gondolin, they came to the Pools of Ivrin.
They were mourning the defilements by Glaurung, when they saw Turin.
Thus the stories crossed.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:44 PM
that was for Vorowe .. many years later 6
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:45 PM
Ah, yes. Still someone else that I was thinking of for Turin's story, though. I think.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:45 PM
They did not know what was happening in the south, or who he was. He passed them by and they spoke no word.
Heroes that pass in the night. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:46 PM
Imagine not recognizing your cousin.
Wouldn't they have grown up together for a few years?
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:46 PM
Ulmo had given Tuor a special mantle that prevented the enemy from seeing him, so when Voronwe saw him, he was ok.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:46 PM
Ah.
But Turin didn't?
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:47 PM
Doesn't say.
Tuor was the son of Hurin's brother Huor and of Rian.
So, related. : )
Huor died in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, and his wife gave birth that following winter in
the wilds of Mithrim.
Tuor was fostered to Annael of the Grey-elves who lived in those hills in the cave of Androth.
When Tuor was 16, the elves decided to move to join their relatives at the Havens of Sirion far south.
On the way, they were ambushed by Orcs and Easterlings.
Tuor was taken captive by Lorgan, chief of the Easterlings of Hithlum, for three years before he escaped.
Tuor returned to the empty cave of Androth and lived alone, fighting against the Easterlings, doing them so much hurt that Lorgan set a price on his head.
After Tuor had lived as an outlaw for four years,
Ulmo put a direction in Tuor's heart leading him west across Dor-lomin to find the Gate of the Noldor, Annon-in-Gelydh.
And that's when we started talking above. : )
From there, he traveled the hidden tunnel from Nevrast, preventing Orcs or Man from knowing to follow or pass the information to Morgoth.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:50 PM
Ah, Tuor did not grow up in Hithlum for a few years then. No wonder.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:50 PM
Right
He came out at Nevrast. Seeing and hearing Belegaer the Great Sea put a sea-longing on him so that he went into the depths of Ulmo's realm and remained
in Nevrast.
Summer passed and in autumn he saw seven great swans flying and knew he had stayed overlong.
These weren't just any swans. So we see Ulmo at work again.
He followed the swans along the shore to the deserted halls of Vinyamar that lay under Mt. Taras.
That's where he found the stuff we just talked about.
After putting them on, he went down to the shore.
A great storm rose from the West and Ulmo came out of it in majesty and spoke to Tuor.
You can see a famous painting of that. [Note: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/u/Ulmo/Ulmo.htm#UlmoPix]
He told Tuor to go to the hidden kingdom of Gondolin, and
gave him a great mantle to hide him from the sight of enemies.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:52 PM
I guess when you spend enough time alone in an abandoned country, you'll do anything to relieve the boredom, even if it's just following a few migrating swans.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:52 PM
heh
In the morning, Turgon met Voronwe outside the walls of Vinyamar, where he had been cast from his boat, the only one saved. Learning of ULmo's words,
Voronwe who was from Gondolin became Tuor's guide to the hidden city.
They journeyed, protected from the Fell Winter by the eaves of the Mountains of Shadow.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:53 PM
an invisibility cloak ^^
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:53 PM
Shades of Harry Potter.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:53 PM
strange that should have come to Dumbledore and James Potter
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:53 PM
And there we see Morgoth accidentally protecting Ulmo's people with his own mountains.
Dumbledore had the wand too.
ArienV - Last Sunday at 4:54 PM
hehe
sorry digressing here
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:54 PM
Then they saw Turin, as we mentioned.
Would we digress?  ; )
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:55 PM
We? Never!
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:55 PM
^^
Ulmo pops in again:
By Ulmo's power set on them, Tuor and Voronwe arrived at the hidden door of Gondolin.
They went through the tunnel to the inner gate where they were taken prisoner.
They were brought before Ecthelion of the Fountain, the warden at the great gate at the end of the climbing road.
Things could have gotten sticky there,  but Ulmo had figured that out ahead.
Tuor cast off his mantle and was revealed by his armor and weapons as the one sent by Ulmo.
Ecthelion had the trumpets blown from the gate's towers, answered by trumpets on the walls, and dawn came.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:56 PM
Are we in Lost Tales, Unfinished Tales, or Silmarillion lore at this point?
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:56 PM
Sil
Tuor then rode to an audience with Turgon, son of Fingolfin, High King of the Noldor. Maeglin and Idril were with the king.
(We use that for canon.)
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:57 PM
Yes, but there's more detail in the other 2, and I would assume they are incorporated in the upcoming book.
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:57 PM
You bet. Feel free to add in!
When Tuor spoke, he seemed more than human as his voice gave the words of Ulmo.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:57 PM
But the point you're at is between both
Varda - Last Sunday at 4:58 PM
It's pure Sil, although my own words.
Using a quote in this one though, as it's directly from Ulmo:
He warned 'that the curse of Mandos now hastened to its fulfilment, when all the works of the Noldor should perish;
and he bade him depart, and abandon the fair and mighty city that he had built, and go down Sirion to the sea.'
Now why wouldn't Turgon say o no! I'd better evacuate my people since Ulmo himself sent warning and I care so much about my people!
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 4:59 PM
"And lo, the elves looked at him and thought about his prophetic words and thought: 'Yeah, like that's going to happen.'"
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:00 PM
lol
Turgon pondered the warning, remembering the previous warning, but did not want to abandon his city and felt it the only safe place.
It was a gorgeous city, made like his rose-colored memories of home.
His "silmaril" that he probably thought he could only make once.
Turgon's worried though, and hopes to get around the prophecy.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:01 PM
Which he did not want to give up to Morgoth. Nice parallel.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:01 PM
Good.
Does anyone push him to do the stupid thing and stay?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:02 PM
None but Tuor, I imagine.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:02 PM
Tuor is telling Turgon to go.
All these T names...
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:03 PM
Oh, to stay. Nevermind.
Possibly Maeglin then.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:03 PM
Right, it was Maeglin.
Turgon rightly feared treason and blocked the entrance to the gate and no one went in nor out.
Someone might just agree with Ulmo, never know.
Thorondor the Lord of the Eagles brought word to Turgon of the fall of Nargothrond,
and later of the slaying of Thingol,
and then of the slaying of Thingol's heir Dior and the ruin of Doriath.
Turgon vowed never to fight alongside any son of Feanor, and forbade his people to pass the hills protecting Gondolin.
So of course we should expect Tuor to be leading the loyal opposition and say let's get out of here. What did he do?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:06 PM
More people starting with T.
Thorondor, Thingo..
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:06 PM
heh
Did Tuor do the "let my people go" thing?
Tuor was enthralled by the beauty of the city and its people and remained with them, becoming mighty in stature and lore.
And major oops:
Idril, daughter of Turgon, and he, fell in love, and after seven years, married with Turgon's agreement.
Turgon agreed to let his elven daughter and only heir marry a human? What was he thinking? This was the second union of a human and elf.
Why did he allow this and even give his blessing?
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:09 PM
Well, I imagine that despite throwing Ulmo's warning to the wind, he still recognized Tuor as an emissary to at least one Vala and figured if he was good enough for Ulmo, he was good enough for his daughter, despite being human?
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:10 PM
Sounds right!
Turgon knew the fate of the Noldor was wound with the one Ulmo had sent
and remembered Huor's words from before the host departed from the Battle of Unnumbered Tears.
So it's all lovely, seem to have gotten around the prophecy by being super careful.
O wait. It's a prophecy.
But Maeglin had desired Idril as the only heir of Turgon and was angry, hated Tuor, and had a secret following of his own.
It could not have helped Maeglin's cheer when
In the spring, Earendil Halfelven was born, 503 years after the coming of the Noldor to Middle-earth.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:11 PM
Imagine having your crush stolen by a mere hooman!
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:11 PM
For sure.
And potential chance for the throne, too.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:12 PM
Yep!
Aranuir(Aarfon) - Last Sunday at 5:12 PM
guys family dinner time; sorry! see you later!
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:12 PM
Meanwhile, Ulmo's not the only power around.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:12 PM
Namarie!
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:12 PM
Namarie Aranuir!
mmm dinner. Hobbits approve this message.
Morgoth edited what he showed Hurin, causing Hurin to go near Gondolin's blocked entrance outside the Encircling Mountains
and cry out to them in despair thus betraying the location.
(I did run past the hour.)
But no one in Gondolin heard his call and did not know their danger.
Hurin took the Nauglamir necklace in anger to Thingol and Melian the Maia where he learned the truth.
So, we have a Maia mixed in among the powers too. Ulmo, Morgoth, Melian
Morgoth bent effort unceasingly on finding Gondolin but no creature of Angband could come into the area because of the vigilance of the eagles.
So to the powers add eagles, who are the hand of Manwe.
Idril felt a foreboding for the future and had a secret exit built, leading down from the city, under the plain and far beyond the walls north of Amon Gwareth. Maeglin did not know of it.
Foreboding. That's from yet another Vala or even Maia.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:15 PM
How did Hurin get the necklace?
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:16 PM
Hurin was let loose by Morgoth and went to Dor-lomin.
He found Mim there taking up residence in the place emptied by Glaurung, and Hurin took the necklace. Mim did not survive the encounter.
Maeglin sometimes took his men past the hills despite Turgon's order, to mine for metals for crafting, and Turgon was unaware.
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:26 PM
The sea-longing came up again in Tuor and in his son, Earendil.
So Idril and Tuor with their son went to the mouths of Sirion, where they joined Elwing Dior's Daughter and her people.
*mouth
Thus the people of Doriath, Gondolin, and of Cirdan's people joined in one place.
We have a lot of elves from destroyed cities all in one basket, working together, vulnerable. And Ulmo brought them there.
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:27 PM
And then the sons of Feanor struck...
Varda - Last Sunday at 5:27 PM
Ulmo knows the vulnerablilty.
Ulmo spoke to the Valar, asking for forgiveness for the elves and to overmaster Morgoth, but it was not yet time.
And what Phar said.
In Tuor's old age, he and Idril sailed to Valinor, and Tuor alone of mortal men was numbered among the Eldar and lived with the Noldor, whom he loved.
It was Earendil, with both man and elf in his ancestry, carrying the silmaril, that brought about the time Manwe waited for.
And the Valar came to Middle-earth, with elves from Valinor.
Morgoth is toast.
All stemming from this story.

the hammers return home

levelling scales nowadays remember?
instances as well ~ so a level 50 can be with a level 30 in a dungeon ~
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:36 PM
Yeah, true, but if you're going that way, it's all become a bit jumbled up anyway.
Besides, isn't there still a minimum?
ArienV - Last Sunday at 5:36 PM
for dungeons there is i think
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 5:38 PM
http://www.wowhead.com/news=277409 has a table, with minimum levels for each zone

During BlizzCon 2017, Blizzard shared their plan to improve the overall leveling experience using Zone Scaling in old world zones. Now that the 7.3.5 PTR is live, we can see how these level bands work.

It looks like a series of panflutes.
Right, time to gather some flashgames.

Personal gaming report:

Flashgames!
http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/paddle-pals/ is the first! A platformer as well as a paddle/brick game, where you guide a character through the level and have to have him bounce and break the bricks and collect the gems in certain sections, trying to get to the exit in each level!

https://www.kongregate.com/games/CrounchyBrothers/revenge-of-dog is a story game about a dog who gets left behind in the forest. Smaller game, 6 endings to get, some sad, some happy, some funny. Interact with things and animals, see what you can come up with and try to get all 6 endings!
Kongregate
Revenge of Dog
You are a dog and you go for a walk in the forest with your master...

And for the third one, hmm....

One that came up for a badge this week is an old classic, https://www.kongregate.com/games/Kajenx/william-and-sly

William and Sly
This is a simple and moody game that plays a lot like a scavenger hunt.  It was inspired by my childhood adventures of running around in the woods.  I hope you...
Platformer where you play a fox, exploring a forest and hunting down the mushrooms, teleport runes and even the power of flight. Very nice and atmospheric, though there have been complaints about people getting ill from the perspective and layer movements as you go. For me it adds to the experience, though!
Lots of hidden caves too, so try to run into every wall

Blizzard gaming!
Hearthstone:
Warrior to level 54 now as well, through the monster hunt; second hero gave warrior xp. I completed the monster hunt with the first hero, but failed on the last boss with the second hero. I did get 10 wins overall though, over 2 runs, which means quest for him is done and I'll poke the hunter hero next for the third quest.
Next warrior golden card for 55 and 56 appears to be the chillwind yeti, which is one of the most useful cards of the basic set. Going to be nice to get golden versions of those.
Brawl this week is basically an arena, so I didn't bother with it. Don't like the arena system.
Heroes of the Storm:
I like that they're putting lore in. But the game universe itself, the Nexus, is in itself a mess of heroes from various franchises on battlegrounds which have themes from all over the place, so I am a bit skeptic about the coherency that the lore about this place is going to end up with.
This first chapter and comic comes with a nice background theme and some darker skins for a few heroes, but it doesn't really feel like a sign of some forebidding Dark Nexus stuff coming up. We'll see.
Brawl this week is fun, though, a return of the Stitches pool party ("pull" party) where you hook over players from the other team over the pool to gang up on them.
Level 273 now, so 2 levels gained. One of them was indeed from getting Stitches to level 2 through that brawl.
WoW:
Some new pets from the old raids! We got our second snobold from the Argent Tournament raid. It was part of the previous chapter of old pets, but wasn't part of the meta-achievement because it's so rare. I'm the only one of our group of 3 who's lacking it now, so I hope the third one won't take as long to get!
Also, we got our last pet needed from the Cataclysm raids, so that's done as well. One person in our party still needs the Blazing Drake from last boss in Dragon Soul for the drake achievement, though, so we might still be returning there from time to time if he's up for it.
We're continuing our current raiding, getting some choice bosses down in heroic Antorus, although Aggramar still took a number of attempts. That boss is still a pain sometimes, with people being knocked over the edge of the platform, crowd control failing on the adds, and tanks making some mistakes (including me). So easy to lose there.
But with the expansion coming to its end, recruiting not going too well, and heroic difficulty overall becoming pretty easy for us, it has been decided to go from 3 to 2 raid nights a week unless we find a stable enough group to continue to try mythic difficulty. In the meantime, we'll try to get some alternative raiding in on tuesdays instead, like mythic Trial of Valor. Even when overgeared, mythic Helya is still quite difficult!
Weekly this week is indeed timewalking, Burning Crusade era. I still did my standard 7 dungeons, 1 each with 2 slightly lower alts and 5 for the quest with my druid. Not much new to tell there, though, except getting some green gear appearances I was apparently still lacking. When it comes to random trash-drops that can appear all over Outland, it's difficult to find out what you're missing.
Other than that, finished some larger projects and smaller Legion secrets in this final phase of the expansion, and am starting to get through my to-do list at last!
Finished the Brawler's Guild, getting 20000 brawler's guild for one achievement, and defeating the Stranglethorn Streak rumble for another. Hunter pet and warlock pet tactics don't appear to be working very well anymore, but apparently it can be made a lot easier by a Windwalker monk with a black ox statue, which can taunt all the spawned beasts toward it, though you still have to watch out for pounces by the panthers. Healing each other a bit helps there.
Still took a few tries, but much less of a pain than we thought it would be
So now I can leave the Brawler's Guild until next expansion.
Also done with fishing! Visited the Suramar fisherfriend (in a fishing raid) one more time last night, getting the last 40+ sleeping murlocs that spawn rare fish for artifact power that I needed. So now I got the last trait for the fishing pole, making the artifact power bar disappear! Interesting to have an artifact maxed out, which is pretty much impossible for the regular artifacts.
I also finished the cooking achievements, getting my skill to 800 and making all the recipes once. You only need 15 out of 21 Legion recipes made for the achievement, but I went for all of them anyway.
And finally I tackled some "secrets". I thought I needed to do 2, but apparently I'd already freed a secret npc in Suramar during my earlier questing, as I couldn't find him in the cave he was supposed to be trapped, and I already found him in Shal'aran where he thanked me for freeing him. So it must have been quite a while ago.
But the other secret I did manage was using a pebble from Dalaran (very hard to find, and only one is up out of 10 possible locations at any time, but luckily I had a map) to show the dog called Dog at the Draenor garrison, which makes him in Dalaran too, in the pet-shop. After Pandaria and Draenor, the story of Dog continues
And with some of those projects, big and small, finished, I can continue down my list. The next few things shouldn't take me too long, so I should have more and more things to report over the next weeks. Feels a bit weird now that I can consider myself in the "endgame" for the Legion expansion, but at least it means I should be ready for BfA when it arrives
The Brawler's Guild was probably the last thing I really needed to get before 8.0, too. So I can really take my time from here on.
And that's my report for the week!

Thank you, Phar.
Grats on getting all that done
Ar-Pharazon-V - Last Sunday at 6:53 PM
Thank you  After fishing took so long I was getting worried about running out of time, but everything after this is pretty small in comparison.
