Arien V (22:59:21): no hurry Varda :)
Varda Valar (22:59:24): This next one takes making a

Ar-Pharazon-V (23:35:07): 144 guests?
Varda Valar (23:35:14): It had to be chocolate,
naturally. It was great.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:35:18): yay :)
Arien V (23:36:02): Happy birthday Bilbo :) A gross
.. wasnt it?
Varda Valar (23:36:12): :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:36:21): I hope the cake wasn't!
Arien V (23:36:34): hehe :)
Arien V (23:37:06): how cute for him to have his
birthday to have it two days after our heroic Hobbit :)
Varda Valar (23:37:31): It was a reason his guild
name is Bilbo. :)
Arien V (23:37:43): ah i see
Varda Valar (23:38:30): He's a slim tall guy,
originally had an elf name, Fingon.
Arien V (23:39:07): :)
Varda Valar (23:39:10): Anyway, I was partying, and
cleaning up, and thought there was plenty of time to put up a pic.
Varda Valar (23:39:21): But there was a second one I
didn't see, hah!
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:39:25): hehe
Varda Valar (23:39:27): So ran a tad late.
Arien V (23:39:45): you are excused Varda :)
Varda Valar (23:39:49): But luckily you all get to
see them!
Varda Valar (23:39:52): Thanky
Varda Valar (23:40:06): You'll love that one was
inspired by a Scottish mountain. ;)
Varda Valar (23:40:22): In Discord, we have Arien,
Gorlim, and myself.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:40:30): Same Arien?
Arien V (23:40:35): you make me curious :D
Varda Valar (23:40:37): Yes. :)
Varda Valar (23:40:44): Sus-pense!
Varda Valar (23:41:09): In AIM, we have Arien,
Ar-Pharazon, Eonwe, and Varda.
Varda Valar (23:41:19): Did I miss any of you quiet
lurkers? :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:41:31): Gwaihir always seems to be
here?
(23:41:58) vardavalar1 added scott92027 to this group chat.
Varda Valar (23:42:12): Gwaihir has AIM up, but I
think he's at work.
Varda Valar (23:42:26): Just invited Elladan, who has
supper about this time.
Arien V (23:42:31): Aiya Elladan :)
Varda Valar (23:42:46): Aiya Elladan if you're here.
:)
Varda Valar (23:43:59): Elladan says he's here but
again can't talk in Valar chat
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:44:07): Aiya Elladan!
Varda Valar (23:44:22): He can read it at least. :)
Varda Valar (23:44:46): He's also tanking something
in WoW
Arien V (23:44:54): somebody had the problem before
.. some setting was checked but i forgot who it was and which setting {/
Arien V (23:45:02): getting old ..
Varda Valar (23:45:31): Excuses. Sunlight may have
been around a while but is still super bright.
Arien V (23:45:52): *flares up rd*
Varda Valar (23:45:55): hehe
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:45:57): heh
Varda Valar (23:46:14): Elladan may try Discord, to
see if he can type there. Just busy at the moment.
Varda Valar (23:46:22): Any other membership news?
Arien V (23:46:29): i hope he has fun there :)
Varda Valar (23:47:09): Hi from Sauron, Fangorn,
Eowyn, Bilbo.
Arien V (23:47:10): uh I met some Thranduil guy in
Lotro and added him to the Discord server :)
Varda Valar (23:47:17): Thanks :)
Varda Valar (23:47:32): Thranduil is back in LotRO
and playing fairly regularly.
Varda Valar (23:47:43): He's legit, no worries. Just
been a while.
Varda Valar (23:47:57): He's often with the Irmo
group.
Arien V (23:48:04): oh he seems a nice guy :)
Varda Valar (23:48:12): He's one of us, all right. :)
Arien V (23:48:13): we shortly chatted in voice chat
Varda Valar (23:48:20): Very good.
Varda Valar (23:48:36): Thanks for mentioning that!
Varda Valar (23:49:07): Irmo, Miriel, and Hurin are
trying to catch him on LotRO too. Keep missing each other by a hair,
Discord should help coordinate that.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:49:14): Aiya to all of those saying
hi :)
Varda Valar (23:49:18): Oh, in other membership news,
Varda Valar (23:49:40): more folks are answering the GSMU. Thanks! Eonwe and I are
updating our pages.
Arien V (23:50:29): havent sent mine yet .. urks but
will do so tomorrow :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:50:46): Just gave mine to Eonwe in
private chat, seems to work fine!
Varda Valar (23:51:19): Meetings can be handy. :)
Varda Valar (23:53:30): Woot! Elladan made it into
our channel for Discord and is typing there just fine!
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:53:51): Yay!
Varda Valar (23:53:59): Dis found out that she
couldn't get into Discord because of her Norton Anti-virus and fixed
that.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:54:35): *shudder* Norton
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:54:45): Every time I update flash
it wants to install Norton.
Varda Valar (23:55:16): Aye, have to watch for the
sneaky check mark.
Varda Valar (23:56:56): Elladan is moving to Discord
and leaving AIM, and would love for us all to be using Discord instead
of AIM. :)
(23:57:55) Scott Lombardi left this group chat.
Varda Valar (23:58:50): Our 20th Anniversary is Oct 4
Varda Valar (23:59:11): so that means
Varda Valar (23:59:21): the chat marathon is starting
next weekend!
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:59:22): *blows party whistle*
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:59:26): Ah!
Varda Valar (23:59:33): Oct 1
Varda Valar (23:59:58): I assume we are going to
continue trying to do it in AIM
Monday, September 25, 2017
Varda Valar (00:00:07): but we have a lot of us in
Discord.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:00:13): It kinda takes the edge
off, knowing that you can't see people coming online and offline
anymore as long as they're in the chat, that Gwaihir is always here,
and you can read back what you missed :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:00:32): We could even have 2 chat
marathons then!
Varda Valar (00:00:47): For the Discord group, do we
want to use the meeting-place channel or our normal Harbor channel for
the marathon? [Note: meeting-place for the marathon]
Varda Valar (00:01:17): Maybe Phar and Eonwe could
give Discord a shot during the marathon, work out the how-to, see if
they like it?
Varda Valar (00:01:32): See about how to do
transcripts.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:01:33): Could give it a try. I
think I've still got the install file somewhere.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:01:40): But I still prefer to use
AIM for the meetings.
Varda Valar (00:01:58): It's just a quick download
from www.discord.com. Click Download
Varda Valar (00:02:45): The transcript may be a
problem in Discord. So far I am a real newbie with it, but can only see
a select and copy in the channel we're in as the method.
Varda Valar (00:05:23): I mentioned the problem in
Discord about the transcript. Maybe one of the old-timers there can
help.
Varda Valar (00:05:38): Any other membership news?
Arien V (00:06:18): copy/ paste wordfile works great
*dry*
Varda Valar (00:06:21): Discord also lets us see all
the members who are online, rather as AIM does.
Arien V (00:06:35): for the logs
Varda Valar (00:06:41): It's a long drag to select,
but can be done.
Varda Valar (00:07:03): Would you like to give that a
try, Arien? For today, for practice? And email it to me?
Varda Valar (00:07:08): Much shorter there. :)
Varda Valar (00:07:27): See if we can get past that
last hurdle.

Varda Valar (00:08:47): Web:
Varda Valar (00:09:27): The Anniversary
page is accepting from September through October any art, poetry,
articles, stories, etc that the guild folk would like to send.
Varda Valar (00:09:51): Mark that it's intended to be
added to the Anniversary festivities when you email it to Varda!
Varda Valar (00:10:31): Also, we need to decide what
festivities we'd like to do in our respective games.
Varda Valar (00:10:53): The usual go to some major
towns together on mounts and blow fireworks? :)
Varda Valar (00:11:09): Any additions our creative
folk would like to add?
Varda Valar (00:11:29): Feel free to email Varda if
inspiration strikes at some odd time
.
Varda Valar (00:11:49): Now for a treat from the
Bohemian Weasel-(T)
Varda Valar (00:12:38): She's been honoring Bilbo's
birthday with a couple of pieces of art, along with working on a series
of landscape uses in real life that she merges with Middle-earth for
great fun.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:13:06): Ah, like they did for the
movie? :)
Varda Valar (00:13:19): The first was sent Sept 22
"The Lonely Mountain"
Varda Valar (00:13:30): Not New Zealand
Varda Valar (00:13:36): http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/BohemianWeasel/places/LonelyMountain/LonelyMountain.htm
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:14:14): Ooh.
Varda Valar (00:14:36): (This Discord explanation for
transcripts just in from Elladan:
Varda Valar (00:14:39): https://dht.chylex.com/
Arien V (00:16:53): that looks like a mountain here
on Skye :O
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:17:18): "Buachaille Etive
Mòr in the Highlands of Scotland"
Varda Valar (00:17:21): She says:
Varda Valar (00:17:28): "This is the second in a
series of landscapes inspired by both Britain and Middle-earth - this
one based on Buachaille Etive Mòr in the Highlands of Scotland."
Varda Valar (00:18:08): Are you familiar with that
spot, Arien?
Varda Valar (00:20:02): The Bohemian Weasel says:
Varda Valar (00:20:05): "Here is the dragon
finished at last, and in his treasure are actual little gems, a tiiiny
Arkenstone, and enough 22k gold leaf to please even a Dwarf.
A4 / 8x11.5", acrylics, pencil, gold paint, liquid gold, 22k gold leaf,
and glass crystals of various sizes."
Arien V (00:20:35): I passed it many times Varda
Arien V (00:20:48): but never knew the name :)
Varda Valar (00:21:00): So she did a good enough
painting that it's recognizable. Excellent!
Varda Valar (00:21:47): I doubt I could pronounce the
name. :)
Arien V (00:22:04): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buachaille_Etive_M%C3%B2r#/media/File:Buachaille_Etive_Mor.jpg
Arien V (00:22:13): thats the original
Varda Valar (00:22:32): O wow
Arien V (00:22:35): it means "The big Shephered" in
Gelic :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:22:42): Very nicely done!
Arien V (00:24:03): the big shephered of Etive .. she
s got the tip of the lonely mountain different but you can see the
similarity :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:24:21): Yep!
Varda Valar (00:24:24): And she made it sharper, more
rugged, to fit the story.
Arien V (00:24:30): aye
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:24:30): And added a gate to it ;)
Varda Valar (00:24:59): More water
Varda Valar (00:25:21): Worked really well.

Varda Valar (00:52:43): Tolkien:
Varda Valar (00:53:09): In the books, what did Bilbo
and Frodo's birthday have to do with the main storyline?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:53:53): It was when Bilbo decided
to disappear and leave Frodo the Ring, and when it caught Gandalf's
suspicion.
Varda Valar (00:54:18): Aye!
Varda Valar (00:54:52): Also, the party was a cause
for Gandalf's being present at that very important time.
Varda Valar (00:55:20): Had he not come, Bilbo may
have taken the Ring with him, unable to finally part with it.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:55:27): Yes, very true!
Varda Valar (00:55:32): Why was Bilbo so set on
giving away so many presents at the party?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:55:35): Might've become a new
Gollum.
Varda Valar (00:55:56): or Lord of the Rings himself?
Arien V (00:56:18): he said it was to make it easier
to part with it was the reason for the presents
Arien V (00:56:30): to part with the ring
Varda Valar (00:56:31): Right
Varda Valar (00:57:06): What happened to Bilbo right
after the party? Where did he end up?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:57:06): Did it help?
Varda Valar (00:57:20): Bilbo said it didn't help
much at all. :)
Varda Valar (00:57:56): It also helped him set his
departure time. He didn't intend to return to the Shire.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:58:01): He ended up in Rivendell,
and age was not far behind.
Varda Valar (00:58:20): True. What did he do there
that affected the story line?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:58:35): Got Frodo a gear upgrade,
at least!
Arien V (00:58:40): He argued with Gandalf
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:58:41): And there was something
about a new song...
Arien V (00:58:46): Bilbo i mean
Arien V (00:59:17): he actually tried to attack him
and justify why to keep the ring would be good for him
Varda Valar (00:59:20): I was aiming for that gear
upgrade, aye. :) The others are also true.
Varda Valar (01:00:30): Also, seeing Bilbo again
helped Frodo's spirits right after a serious injury, setting him back
just when he needed to go on a long, tough journey.
Varda Valar (01:01:05): Bilbo's mithril shirt and
Sting went to Frodo. How did they change the course of history, er, the
story?
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:01:41): The course of his story?
Varda Valar (01:02:13): Aye. If Bilbo had not given
Frodo those two items, would the story have been changed?
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:03:58): Ehr, was Frodo being
skewered by a spear also in the book?
Varda Valar (01:04:07): Yes.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:04:22): Mithril saving him there
helped a bit, then.
Varda Valar (01:04:29): Right :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:04:55): And I'm pretty sure Sam
used Sting to kill some orcs to save Frodo.
Varda Valar (01:05:34): and he stabbed Shelob with
it, running her off.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:05:39): That too.
Varda Valar (01:06:01): It also gave warning
Varda Valar (01:06:25): Frodo even used it, although
that was left out of the movies.
Varda Valar (01:06:36): No lesser blade could have
done that foot stab.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:06:44): True!
Varda Valar (01:06:55): So, a birthday party changed
the fate of the world.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:07:08): In many ways.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:07:24): Frodo wouldn't even be on
the quest if Bilbo had taken the Ring with him.
Varda Valar (01:07:54): Exactly
Varda Valar (01:08:18): He'd be serving a Lord of the
Rings instead.
Varda Valar (01:08:46): It's the top of the hour,
folks.
Varda Valar (01:08:54): *hammer trots off the
conveyor belt, self-importantly, wearing a party hat*
Varda Valar (01:09:20): *It blasts a party horn,
unrolling it to hit the hammerpad*
Varda Valar (01:09:32): *thwiiiiipppp!*
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:09:33): Good aim!
Varda Valar (01:09:44): *the hammerpad laughs
uncontrollably*
Varda Valar (01:09:53): *knockity knock knock*
Varda Valar (01:10:28): *I pat the hammer. It tosses
confetti and returns to the shelf*

Varda Valar (01:10:36): After-meeting!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:13:57): Personal gaming report!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:14:01): Flashgaming:
Arien V (01:16:24): Namarie folks :) i ll have to
give up for tonight :)#
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:16:27): http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/zengrams
is the first! Seems to have moved its link to another site since I
played but that's fine.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:16:28): namarie!
Arien V (01:16:37): Namarie :)
Varda Valar (01:16:58): Namarie!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:17:34): Move colored figures to
overlap them, make new figures, and ultimately fill up the frame.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:17:43): I make it sound complicated.
Varda Valar (01:18:57): :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:20:07): http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/out_of_order
is the second game. Nice concept, but very short, with basically only
one level. Maybe there'll be sequels? Put pieces of a moving puzzle in
order to unlock more parts of the puzzle.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:20:24): (not counting the
introduction bit)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:21:44): AFter those two smaller
games you deserve a bigger one!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:22:53): http://www.kongregate.com/de/games/Eggy/arcalona
is a large rpg/upgrade/idle game where you build up your kingdom slowly
to save your world :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:25:18): You'll get the blizzard
news a bit later on :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:05:38): Blizzard gaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:07:30): Heroes of the Storm: Level 217 now,
including my first level (from 1 to 2) on Zul'jin, gotten through the
week's single-lane brawl. Quite a fun hero, but I've already got a lot
of Warcraft assassins waiting. They always tend to be a lot of fun ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:08:43): Hearthstone: Still moving to level
51 with all my heroes. XP's all over the place because of some
one-sided daily quests, with some heroes over halfway and some barely
on their way. But I'll still try to level them close together :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:10:47): This week's brawl was a
tough deck-builder, where you could only use spells that cost an even
amount of mana, and minions with an odd amount of attack.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:10:56): Luckily, we had the
internet, because I'm terrible at deckbuilding :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:11:34): Starcraft II: Still working on the
war chest. Now on the fourth tier of the 3rd section, and I estimate I
only need 4 more games to unlock the entire chest.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:11:41): Almost there!
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:50:19): WoW:
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:50:51): For raiding, bit more
progress on heroic Kil'jaeden, into the last phase now, Still rather
tough, but fun :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:51:50): Yet another pet from the
Cataclysm raids! A little failed dragon experiment from Maloriak in
Blackwing Descent, sort of like a lurching dragonkin pet. Looks silly.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:53:07): This week's weekly was
Pandaria timewalks, quite fun. Got some new achievements on the alts I
sent in for one TW each. Pandaria instances are still interesting!
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:53:54): For world quests, I got a
couple more marks of honor, and completed the last pet master quest.
Now I've fought all the pet masters with each family!
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:54:34): I also did a few more
Helarjar Landing quests, and now have done all 3 different ones. The
one in Highmountain seemed quite interesting, but was a bit
underwhelming.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:55:57): Poked Karazhan on mythic a
couple of times, completing the final quest and getting the teleport
ring as reward. But since you can get to Karazhan directly from
Dalaran, and the ring itself is on a 4 hour cooldown, it's rather
redundant.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:56:09): Maybe in future expansions
when Dalaran's not the center of the game anymore :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:57:37): I also got my mount from
Nightbane, the second time I killed him, so now I'm actually done with
Karazhan until I want to farm Moroes' pocketwatch. That'll be a way off
still though :) But I'll still help others in my group with Nightbane
if they want, since they helped me as well.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:59:00): And I got another mount
too, the fox mount from the questline starting with the hunt invitation
you can get from Suramar emissary quests. I'd had the quest for a
while, but didn't make time for it until this week. Very nice mount
also, I like riding around on a fox.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:59:28): What else... world holiday
events!
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:01:09): Pirate's day was earlier
this week, with some events in Booty Bay, but I already had the rewards
for that from the previous years. There was, however, a new toy to get
south of Booty Bay in the Bloodsail Buccaneers camp, but you needed
friendly reputation with the Bloodsail (not many people go for that)
and the accompanying achievement. Not really something to grind on the
day in question, but a nice reward for those who had made the effort in
the patch (like me!), and perhaps something to work on for next year
for others.
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:02:21): The toy is a sort of banner
like in Diablo 3; a Jolly Roger (pirate flag) that sticks on your back,
is still visible if you're in shape-shift from as a druid, only goes
away if you die or click it off, and has a 30 second cooldown. So
basically you can use it anywhere anytime!
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:03:58): The other holiday event is
Brewfest! Not much new for the instance boss, except the gear he drops
is higher ilevel and you can fight him from level 40 or something, with
scaling rewards. What me interests me, however, is that all the
cosmetic rewards you can buy are now unlockable for appearances (though
only useable during the holiday event), so I started gathering tokens
for that.
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:04:45): 800 tokens needed for all
items, so I am using 3 lower level alts as well, together with my main
for 200 tokens each. Merely doing 2 dailies a day each, it'll only take
8 days, so is perfectly doable to complete during this year's event.
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:06:23): I also started one of the
four Falcosaur questlines, starting with the Bloodgazer hatchling from
Azsuna, doing one quest every day, because the pet needs to rest after
each adventure. I'll work on each falcosaur hatchling after the
previous one completes, and at 15 quests each that'll take 60 days. But
it doesn't take too much time a day, and there'll be a new mount after
each :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:09:08): Illidan questline puts me
at 36 out of 40 soul fragments, so I'll be done on thursday, after
which I'll do the Trial of Valor and Nighthold raids one more time.
After that, the Broken Shore awaits!
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:12:03): Going through my to-do list
further, I also finally got around to unlocking the blood trader in
Dalaran. I hadn't made time for it because I thought there would be a
bit of a questline behind it; imagine my surprise when it was literally
nothing more than talking to the npc once. Still, now it's done!
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:15:52): And finally, I decided also
to take a shot at Doctor Weavil, the mob on Alcaz isle who was revamped
for patch 7.1. I'd read he drops a toy and some pet consumables. Turns
out it's quite difficult to get to him. If you fly ,you get shot out of
the air before reaching the island, and by ground you have to deal with
proximity mines and turrets that do a lot of damage.
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:16:41): The toy itself turns out to
have a pretty low droprate of 3%, and he takes 7 minutes to respawn,
but if you find yourself with nothing better to do than camp him and do
some browsing or other stuff, it's an okay place to sit and wait. 3% is
not the worst rate I've seen.
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:17:21): And that's my report for
the day!
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:17:51): Week, even.
Varda Valar (03:52:49): Thanks Phar
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:57:07): Oh, one thing I forgot, I
decided to get more work done with the recipes from Nomi, so I used all
the Nomi snacks I could find on the alt I'd been sending them to, and
rushing through a bunch of work orders. As a result I'm now only
missing one more recipe, and have 9 out of 10 recipe scraps I need to
create any missing recipe.. which will be the one, of course. So now
I've got 2 possibilities for finally finishing all that, and I hope to
get the 10th scrap over the next week :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:59:02): After that I can stop
piling various kinds of fish on top of the panda chef, and leave him in
peace.
Ar-Pharazon-V (04:21:39): Namarie, will try to send
transcript tomorrow!
Varda Valar (04:21:52): Thank you :)
Varda Valar (04:22:21): Namarie!
