Arien V (23:02:09):    Great you can be here Varda :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:02:28):    That sounds like a mathematical impossibility.
Varda Valar (23:02:37):    Thanks! May run off suddenly chasing a 3-year old, but at least you'll know why the sudden quiet.
Varda Valar (23:03:31):    It does, doesn't it! The extra characters moved from removed servers haven't been given extra slots with my LotRO points. I deleted some, ug.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:03:44):    Aw.
Varda Valar (23:04:08):    The number was a bit excessive. :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:05:14):    And for Wow we're gonna get.. what.. 6 extra slots per server, was it?
Eonwe Valar (23:05:31):    Sounds right.
Varda Valar (23:05:42):    I could get a lot more slots, just being cheap. Already have 3 accounts.
Eonwe Valar (23:06:10):    Afk for a moment, but the gamng news is up just in case.
Varda Valar (23:06:20):    Thank you. :)

Varda Valar (23:29:24):    Tolkien:
Varda Valar (23:29:42):    Thank you all for posting recently in the forum RP story. :)

Varda Valar (23:32:10):    Gorlim gave a collection of suggestions. Here they are:
Varda Valar (23:32:24):    (He's playing Morwena in-game in LotRO at the moment)
Varda Valar (23:32:27):    [Kinship] Morwena: heres a Tolkien topic: elves are suposed to be "good" but have a history of fighting with dwarves
Varda Valar (23:32:40):    [Kinship] Morwena: and you get the impression that the elves didnt like the humans in Laketown
Varda Valar (23:32:59):    [Kinship] Morwena: so are they still "good" if they disagree with Gondor and fight with them?
Varda Valar (23:33:13):    [Kinship] Morwena: are the easterlings human?
Varda Valar (23:34:49):    [Kinship] Morwena: i got that impression that dwarves/elves war in the 2nd age

Varda Valar (23:35:23):    That's the list. Have at it to answer the topics, gang. :)

Eonwe Valar (23:37:44):    1.) One has to understand what being "good" is. To simplify, perhaps too much so, Free Will and the respect of it in other sentient beings is "good." So a commitment to and practice of that would make them about as "good" as one can get. That doesn't mean everyone agrees on everything.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:38:23):    Fight against Gondor, or alongside them?
Eonwe Valar (23:38:30):    2.) Elves are imperfect individuals, with imperfect societies. Elves of Mirkwood should not be taken to represent Elves of the Tower Hills.
Varda Valar (23:39:01):    [Kinship] Morwena: i know they origin, i just think its an interesting topic to ask: why do stupid stuff if you know its going to cause ages of trouble
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:39:17):    Because of anger and impulses?
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:39:32):    Being good doesn't make you perfect, as Eonwe said :)
Varda Valar (23:39:37):    [Kinship] Morwena: hmm I would think that the elvish wise would get a clue..
Eonwe Valar (23:40:14):    The "Elven wise" aren't looking down on the men of Laketown and aren't living in Mirkwood :}
Eonwe Valar (23:41:50):    Could they disagree with Gondor? Of course. The Teleri and the Noldor disagreed on going after Morgoth. The problem was the Noldor then violated the rights of the Teleri by killing them and taking their ships.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:42:24):    So mean...
Eonwe Valar (23:43:45):    Could any of the Elven groups still around at the end of the Third Age side with Sauron against Gondor and still be "good"? Well, they would understand what exactly they are siding with, so I doubt they could side with Sauron and still be committed to the principles that would align them with "good."

Varda Valar (23:46:02):    [Kinship] Morwena: when were the rings made and given to Galadriel.. she seem to have an issue with items of power just being created willy nilly
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:47:08):    Second age, by Celebrimbor using Sauron's teachings. Not sure how they got to Galadriel, on the other side of the mountains.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:47:15):    Or well, the one.
Eonwe Valar (23:47:22):    The "best" scenario in that event would be them not being involved, but then they are knowingly sealing their own fate as well. They would have to know Sauron would just take Arda piecemeal. The "Elven wise" certainly knew it, and that's why there was a White Council in the first place, to unite those in opposition to Sauron.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:47:24):    (not The One)
Eonwe Valar (23:48:41):    Or if not specifically Sauron, powers like him.

Eonwe Valar (23:49:32):    3.) Easterlings, so far as anything has been included about them, are from the race of Man.

(2 continued):
Varda Valar (23:49:37):    [Kinship] Morwena: so the warning about powerful items (rings, palantiri, silmarils) should have been in play
Varda Valar (23:50:18):    [Kinship] Morwena: that would follow as the dwarves wore thiers and had a boatload of problems
Eonwe Valar (23:51:17):    4.) If memory serves, Galadriel was given hers by Celebrimbor directly.
Varda Valar (23:51:34):    Gil-galad
Varda Valar (23:51:59):    Guess we should look it up. :)
Eonwe Valar (23:52:20):    Gil-Galad and Cirdan were the other recipients. Elrond and Gandalf were given the ones they bore by the aforementioned two, respectively.
Varda Valar (23:53:53):    Looking it up, Gil-galad the High King, gave the rings out to Cirdan, Galadriel, and Elrond. But I'm not using the books and need someone who has an original source to check.
Eonwe Valar (23:54:23):    Sounds odd that their maker would not have gifted them.
Varda Valar (23:54:48):    He did. Celebrimbor passed them to the Elven High King, apparently.
Varda Valar (23:55:14):    Of course, not all versions will say the same thing.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:55:25):    Yes, especially for the second age, versions abound.
Varda Valar (23:56:40):    In another version, Celebrimbor wore the ring of water and then gave it to Galadriel.
Varda Valar (23:57:03):    and the ring of fire Narya was worn by Gil-galad, then Cirdan, then Gandalf.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:57:13):    rings of fire and water... suddenly Captain Planet flashback
Varda Valar (23:57:34):    and Vilya ring of air and strongest was worn by Gil-galad and then Elrond.
Varda Valar (23:58:00):    This is why we tried to make our "canon" versions first LotR, then H, then Sil.
Varda Valar (23:58:09):    HoME came after.
Ar-Pharazon-V (23:58:24):    UT between?
Varda Valar (23:58:40):    We know that can easily be argued with, was just a way of trying to get some consistency.
Monday, November 13, 2017
Varda Valar (00:01:05):    Aye, UT between

Eonwe Valar (00:01:45):    Kind of a tangential thought: Perusing that section of the Sil again, it mentions "The Elves perceived" that Elrond and Galadriel possessed two of the Three, but the third remained unknown to any except Elrond, Galadriel, and CIrdan (all of that a thing to keep in mind for our RP).
Varda Valar (00:02:18):    Aye, Gandalf's having it was not generally known.
Eonwe Valar (00:02:20):    Sauron likely had his suspicions as well. How much it must has vexed him not having any idea where that Third was and what it was up to...
Eonwe Valar (00:02:38):    *must have vexed
Varda Valar (00:02:45):    Aye
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:02:47):    Possibly one reason he wanted the One back :)
Varda Valar (00:03:17):    A Maia has some extra power compared to an elf, so he could have been better at hiding his Ring from Sauron.
Eonwe Valar (00:03:47):    It may also be another reason Gandalf never really settled anywhere.
Varda Valar (00:04:05):    Gorlim is not feeling well and had to go, but hopes to be back later. He's taking some Tylenol.
Varda Valar (00:04:46):    Gandalf had a job to do. He did not want to appear to serve anyone in particular either. To go to all that needed his aid meant moving.
Varda Valar (00:05:21):    Gandalf called himself a rolling stone compared to Tom's what was it? mossy stone? need some help here. :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:05:51):    a moss-gatherer, I think?
Eonwe Valar (00:05:56):    Had he settled somewhere a ring wasn't already, eventually signs were going to point to that place. Keep moving, and it's less of an impact over all of Eriador.
Varda Valar (00:05:58):    Our hour is up. Do we want to mention any other topic for next week?
Varda Valar (00:06:04):    Sounds right, Phar
Eonwe Valar (00:06:11):    Aye, Phar.
Varda Valar (00:06:20):    Likely true, Eonwe
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:06:43):    Better let Sauron think it's everywhere :)
Varda Valar (00:06:50):    heh
Eonwe Valar (00:07:05):    And yet another reason Saruman would've been an unwise keeper. Saruman was of a mind to set up a fortress.
Varda Valar (00:07:07):    Not far wrong, especially with Shadowfax's help.
Varda Valar (00:07:23):    True. He set up in Orthanc.
Eonwe Valar (00:08:06):    Even had he not turned, he was definitely closer to the front line in that case, and certainly would've caught Sauron's attention.
Varda Valar (00:08:38):    As apparent leader of the White Council, he probably had a target painted on his back.
Varda Valar (00:09:08):    Saruman was handy in his own way, deflecting attacks from Gandalf unintended.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:09:43):    Would he have turned if he was carrying the ring? It's supposed to keep one's spirits up ;)
Eonwe Valar (00:10:21):    I would say "if there was open talk about that," but the Palantir made "talk" unneccesary. Sauron probably got enough of Saruman's mind to know there was some group behind him, and that he wouldn't settle for anything but leading it.
Eonwe Valar (00:13:23):    Interesting thought, Phar. I think so. Ultimately he seemed to decide that power had to meet power, and that it had to be him wielding that power against Sauron's. He still would've taken the risk of the Palantir, and probably would've revealed Narya's location to Sauron incidentally.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:13:51):    Big risk, indeed.
Arien V (00:14:14):    Just had "Born of Hope * running in the background as well and can only recommend it to those who havent seen it yet :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:14:13):    He would've had some Nazgul show up at his tower rather earlier.
Eonwe Valar (00:14:54):    Also, by having Narya to observe, he might've learned more for the creation of his own ring.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:16:22):    Would he need to, if he already had Narya? He might have tried to subvert it somehow.
Eonwe Valar (00:17:21):    Yes, because the Three were not made for the same reason as the One. They would be useless as a direct weapon.
Eonwe Valar (00:18:09):    The Three were about preservation.
Eonwe Valar (00:19:40):    Even if we assumed some battlefield uses for the Three, we're talking Support vs DPS.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:19:58):    Ah yes, healing someone to death.
Arien V (00:20:05):    Saruman still coiuld have tried to steal it somehow
Arien V (00:20:28):    unless they were too pure to bet touched by an already tainted heart
Arien V (00:20:40):    if you know what i mean :)
Arien V (00:21:14):    like .. if someone corrupted touches them you get burned or so
Eonwe Valar (00:21:16):    If he knew about Narya? If he wanted the knowledge that he knew to be public? He probably could've found some way to convince everyone that he should've been given it in the first place? And at the same time painted a target on himself with the Wise for wanting it.
Varda Valar (00:21:26):    You mean hallowed, as the silmarils were, so that Maedhros and Maglor felt pain at the touch of them.
Arien V (00:21:36):    something like that yes
Eonwe Valar (00:22:03):    Elven rope vs/ Gollum would be a lesser example.
Varda Valar (00:22:19):    Aye. Lembas and Gollum also.
Varda Valar (00:23:03):    The problem for the Elven rings could be likened to programming. They were made according to learning from Sauron to be linked to the One Ring and controlled by it.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:24:38):    So Saruman tried to create one that wasn't linked to the One Ring?
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:24:43):    Surpass Celebrimbor, in fact?
Varda Valar (00:25:14):    Saruman did indeed try to make his own rings, the reason he studied ring-lore.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:25:38):    Or perhaps make one linked to the One Ring, but more powerful? :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:25:42):    The 0 Ring?
Varda Valar (00:26:03):    They would have been his own, he thought. But if he were studying ring-lore, it's still possible those rings would have unintentionally included the programming to join with the One Ring.
Varda Valar (00:26:14):    heh, the 0 ring. :)
Arien V (00:26:43):    I like that :)
Varda Valar (00:27:45):    *hammers join in a ring-shape and roll towards the mossy hammerpad*
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:28:04):    Tom Bombapad.
Varda Valar (00:28:19):    *The hammer-wheel is picked up and thumps the hammerpad, removing moss*
Arien V (00:28:25):    *sends in a golden ray of Sunshine to put a yellow spark as gvem*
Varda Valar (00:28:54):    *The hammer-wheel is returned to the shelf, the hammerpad shining brightly in the light of Arien*
top

Varda Valar (00:29:00):    After-meeting!
Eonwe Valar (00:29:01):    Aye, I suspect that Saruman might've ended up just adding to Sauron's collection with hi sown rings, but then again, Saruman was also a Maia of Aulë, so if anyone stood a chance of duplicating Sauron's work without tying it to Sauron's Ring, it was him.
Varda Valar (00:29:11):    Feel free to continue, as always. :)
Eonwe Valar (00:29:58):    My time to go has come, so I must be off :}
Varda Valar (00:30:07):    Saruman's rings never seemed to enter the story as having any particular power. I wonder if they would have been included when talking about "lesser rings" that were still dangerous for mortals.
Varda Valar (00:30:22):    Namarie Eonwe, and thanks for the discussion
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:30:24):    Namarie!
Arien V (00:30:31):    hmm I wonder why Sauron wanted the Ring of Brahair if he id ? Did he just want to Destroy it? or as control tool over the Dunadan? Or even try to turn it into a lower rinvg of ;power to subdue the Dunadan?
Varda Valar (00:30:42):    Good point about Saruman's being a Maia of Aule.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:30:56):    Maybe he just liked collecting rings.
Varda Valar (00:31:02):    The Ring of Barahir was a symbol, and those have their own form of power.
Arien V (00:31:05):    Namarie Eonwe have a a good time working :)
Eonwe Valar (00:31:14):    MP and thanks to Gorlim for supplying the topics for fuel :}
Eonwe Valar (00:31:25):    Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun :}
Varda Valar (00:31:35):    Namarie
Varda Valar (00:31:44):    Yay Gorlim. :)
Arien V (00:32:03):    I hope he feels better soon :)
Arien V (00:34:39):    Well I am heading up to bed as well .. it has been a long day :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:34:42):    Namarie!
Arien V (00:34:45):    Namarie all :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:41:02):    Gaming report!

Ar-Pharazon-V (00:41:09):    Flashgaming:
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:47:59):    http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/airport_sim is the first game! Fun, simple to use, you manage a few runways and have to guide airplanes and helicopters to land by giving them routes with the mouse. Make sure they don't crash into each other!
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:48:12):    Can be difficult though :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:54:47):    http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/doodle_god_rocket_scientist is the second game, the latest entry into the Doodle God franchise. Combine certain elements to discover a bunch of new stuff, this time with a science theme.
Ar-Pharazon-V (00:55:23):    The games are slowly becoming a bit more ad-ridden and prone to using energy systems, but fun can still be had in moderation, and the new features are interesting :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:06:08):    Apparently some are locked behind actual money, but eh, you can still enjoy the game for the parts you do get for free.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:18:53):    http://www.kongregate.com/games/justwo/dead-end-st for the third game, shoot waves of zombies blocking the road and attacking your car, upgrade your stuff, progress across the map!
top
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:19:24):    Blizzard gaming:
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:21:38):    Hearthstone: Pushing onward to the next level. New legendary got, the Lich King himself :) Bit expensive, but can be fun.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:22:34):    Brawl this week was another deck-builder, cast spells to summon random minions of the same cost. Easy enough with a spell-laden mage deck, and a sort of synergy for secrets.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:25:04):    Heroes of the Storm: Hanamura brawl, escorting a payload across the map, or trying to keep it back for the duration of the timer if you're the defending team. Fun, especially in the one game where everyone was forced to play Lunara, the fragile but highly mobile dryad hero :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:25:46):    Escorting team won in all 3 games for me, but 2 of those was with me in the escorting team, so that was fine ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:26:16):    No new levels, but I did get a legendary halloween skin for Xul from the brawl reward chest. Pumpkin-head!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:27:17):    Diablo 3: Started the new season with a rift and 5 loose boss-killing bounties for the first 2 objectives of the season journey, and a bit of a head-start in yellow quality gear.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:27:24):    Level 17 now, pushing onward to 70!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:28:26):    WoW:
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:29:05):    Let's see now! Starting with the old Cata raids, we didn't get a single pet, for the first time among this set of raids. Oh well, better luck next week.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:30:03):    We cleared Tomb of Sargeras on heroic in one night, that's new for us. That left tonight's raid open to do something else interesting instead...
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:30:45):    Moonkin Festival! Lot of fun, hanging out with cute moonkin hatchlings, doing some quests, getting a buff that has me escorted by 5 hatchlings for the next 5 days. Doesn't go away with death.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:31:01):    They do temporarily disappear when you stealth, though, which is good thinking by Blizzard.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:31:19):    We also took a picture at the festival with our raidgroup, druid and/or moonkin themed.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:31:38):    Being a druid myself, that wasn't difficult, I just shifted into balance spec ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:32:36):    Darkmoon Faire's done again for this month, with me at nearly 800 tickets now. Still on schedule to get the mount in December. Very close!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:33:59):    Bit more work done on Talon's Vengeance rep, though I decided not to do battlegrounds while the Faire was up. Only so many things I can do in one daily routine. But next week's weekly quest will be battlegrounds, so that might help :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:34:29):    This week's weekly was timewalks, indeed. Got a whole bunch more timewarped badges, but nothing else to add for that. It was Northrend timewalking, but Ulduar is not included yet.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:35:35):    Bunch more broken shore world quests done, got enough nethershards to buy the wyrmtongue disguise for 50k shards. That's the most expensive item, though, so from here it'll all be cheaper :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:36:23):    Almost done with the legionfall supplies, about 80% of the way. Should be done in 2 weeks at most.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:37:18):    Third falcosaur questline completed, third mount gotten! Started on the fourth, the one from Val'sharah. That should also be done in 2 weeks :) Lots of things done in 2 weeks, just in time for the new patch, apparently. Though I probably won't have the Crucible by then... ah well.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:38:10):    Not been able to make time for Argus, in fact. Hopefully more luck next week.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:38:50):    I did get my second pet from the Deadmines pet dungeon, for 2 bottle caps, a rat with a pirate hat. Named him Snuk, after a rat pirate from a cartoon few people will remember :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:39:54):    And I finished the Chromie scenario! Last talent was completed last night, so I decided to have a go at not only completing the final quest, but also the bonus objective of doing it within 15 minutes, though some luck with the right drops is required for that.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:40:34):    Had 2 attempts; for the first one I screwed up at the end, actually forgetting to finish one portal before moving to the next, and then having to backtrack.. failed it by 10 seconds or so.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:41:02):    Second one was a bit less lucky with drops, but I knew better what to do then, and finished the run with about 2 minutes remaining for the bonus, so yay!
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:42:08):    I'd gotten the second pet from there earlier in the week, the ageless bronze drake, so with today's reward of the transmog set I'm now done with that scenario. Until I ever decide to level an alt or something.
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:43:20):    Oh, and almost forgot, got to prestige 4 this week, getting me another new mount for reward, an armored, flaming unicorn. Ground only, but could still be useful in Argus :)
Ar-Pharazon-V (01:43:53):    And I think that's all for my report!
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:16:53):    Oh yes, one final addendum: Got the barrel roll world quest in Broken Shore last night, and decided on a whim to see if I could get it done without being hit by the stampede once.
Ar-Pharazon-V (02:17:31):    Took me about 20 minutes of trial and error and finding the safest routes, but ultimately got it, and was rewarded by a surprise achievement which I'm pretty sure is not visible until you complete it :D
Ar-Pharazon-V (03:43:47):    namarie, transcript will be worked on tomorrow!
