VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Tolkien Site / Poetry:
VardaValar1: Hoegard Harfoot wrote "Breakfast" http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/Breakfast.htm
VardaValar1: He sent a lot of other poetry but it's related to LotRO
gaming. Most also is quite recognizable as being set in Middle-earth.
AriehnV: haha very hobbity :-)
VardaValar1: If you'd like to see those, they're on a slightly different section:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/authors/HoegardHarfootGaming.htm
ArPharazonV: The green dragon poem was quite impressive.
VardaValar1: That one would qualify for non-gaming poetry too. :-)
VardaValar1: Any of you that would like to make poetry set in Middle-earth, please feel free ot send some in. : )

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming this past week. (yes, we know there's a lot, just not mentioned)
ArPharazonV: Hmhm.
GwaihirValar: Probably the biggest news is Sony's announcement of their upcoming announcement
VardaValar1: BroodWar by Fangorn, Varda, Bilbo, and Sauron all at once and in groups. :-)
ArPharazonV: Operation game-install continues with some hurdles, such
as many installers not working because of being 16-bit and not working
on 64-bit windows.
VardaValar1: ouch
ArPharazonV: But a bit of messing with some program called Virtualbox which is basically a windows-install within a windows-install solved a few problems.
VardaValar1: Announcing an announcement will be coming, Gwaihir. ^^ Funny
VardaValar1: Phar, if you think it would help others, maybe a link?
ArPharazonV: So now I've installed (and tested, thus played) Impossible Creatures, Warwind I and II, Populous: The Beginning...
and I didn't get Theme Park World to work, alas. Maybe i'll need to
create another virtual box for that with windows 95, if I can find the
old cd for it.
GwaihirValar: Well that's essentially it... they announced that on
February 20th they'll be holding an event for something relating to
playstation with the heading 'See the Future'...
but based on their history this prettymuch means they're 100% going to
be announcing their next generation console this month. Pretty hefty
news overall even with the news having not quite happened yet ;-)
ArPharazonV: https://www.virtualbox.org/
is the virtualbox website, but you have to own the old windows-versions
you want to put on them, or acquire them in some other way.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Gwaihir. Something to watch for.
ArPharazonV: Oh, and I installed Warcraft 3 too, but not sure if I'd already done that last week or this monday.
ArPharazonV: Oh, and some flashgaming on my end of course, I've been
looking into doing the daily challenges if it's for games I like, on
the kongregate website I've now got an account on.
ArPharazonV: And before I forget, belated member-news!
VardaValar1: ok : )
ArPharazonV: Fladrif wants me to tell you he's now a Eucalyptus-tree.
ArPharazonV: In other words, he's in Australia :-)
VardaValar1: A camouflaged ent!
ArPharazonV: Heading to New Zealand tomorrow he said, so maybe he'll bring back Hobbit-tales :-)
VardaValar1: *shoos away the koala bears*
VardaValar1: That would be fabulous. : )
ArPharazonV: Allright, that's it from me.
VardaValar1: That's a lot. :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you both Gwaihir and Phar. : )
ArPharazonV: Ooh, also reinstalled and played Gruntz.
ArPharazonV: Allright, continue :-)
VardaValar1: That had a book too.
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, did you have any WoW comments?
Eonwe Valar: Darkmoon Faire this week.
Eonwe Valar: Lunar Festival still going.
VardaValar1: Two at once! Keep folks busy. : )
Eonwe Valar: That's it on the WoW front.
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe. That's a bunch.
AriehnV: errr Darkmoon fair is on
AriehnV: and i ve read someone is planning a Warcraft movie ^^ official big feature
ArPharazonV: Really? I thought they'd shelved that years ago.
AriehnV: not sure whether animated or real actor thing
VardaValar1: Lich King could make a good movie.
AriehnV: i read it in the launcher but cant find the link now
GwaihirValar: They'd never shelved it, they just parted ways with their
former director. They officially found a new director for it
GwaihirValar: announced in last week
Eonwe Valar: What Gwaihir said.
VardaValar1: Thanks. Good to hear.
GwaihirValar: I still say that they should do a live action diablo
movie and full cgi warcraft and starcraft movies... but oh well, if
they wanna do live action warcraft that's what they're gonna do lol
VardaValar1: Shades of The Hobbit.
VardaValar1: WarCraft would be a lot easier to do in CGI, cheaper probably too.
GwaihirValar: ya, Diablo is their only property that primarily involves... well... humans
ArPharazonV: If they got all sorts of WoW cinematics bunched together they'd have half their footage already.
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar
AriehnV: and i am official owner of the two last Warcraft novels by Christie Goden ^^
ArPharazonV: Grats :-)
AriehnV: both Thrall and thingie .. er .. whats her namw Jaina Proudmjore
GwaihirValar: Christie Golden does good work for Blizzard
ArPharazonV: I've read a lot about that last one, it seems quite good.
AriehnV: i love her style
ArPharazonV: What was it called...
ArPharazonV: Tides of War
AriehnV: Jaina proudmore: Tides of War
ArPharazonV: *nod*
GwaihirValar: I'm just waiting for all of these new ones to come out paperback... don't like hardcover books lol
AriehnV: dont mix that up with one of the earlier books
ArPharazonV: Tides of Darkness?
AriehnV: yip
ArPharazonV: That's the one based on Warcraft II, right?
GwaihirValar: ya, I love that Blizzard has been doing that, retelling the stories of their earlier games in novel format
GwaihirValar: the two Starcraft ones: Queen of Blades and Liberty's Crusade are fantastic.
ArPharazonV: Yes, it certainly helps to merge and canonize both sides' campaigns.
ArPharazonV: In the Warcraft case, anyway.
AriehnV: right i think thats what i have on that note
AriehnV: please continue Varda
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: We've been doing a lot more low level stuff. Also
VardaValar1: the constant BG runs pretty much stopped after the reward
changes. We see a lot of other areas being called for now, more variety.
AriehnV: aye :-) nice
VardaValar1: Skirmish raids are showing up more again.
VardaValar1: We try to keep a nice raid kit set-up for kinmates in our kin chest.
VardaValar1: The only thing we tend to skip is the potions for resistance. Maybe we should stock the resistance soups?
VardaValar1: The potions to clear wounds, diseases, etc is what I meant. Much easier to keep topped off at a vendor.
VardaValar1: A raid kit or instance kit includes food for regen and
upping traits and resists, hope tokens, scrolls of battle and of
warding.
VardaValar1: Help keeping those in stock is always welcome. Thanks to all of you who have helped with supplies!
VardaValar1: We also try to keep a lot of the class items in the center
kin chest for any members needing those. Feel free to add to that
collection too.
VardaValar1: The first chest tends to have items including multi-tools and other nifty things.
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO news?
VardaValar1: On to
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: First off, the rp doesn't have to wait on Eonwe's post.
Some of us were at the table and could make comments as we're together.
VardaValar1: We also need to get the members together who are
continuing on the mission and see what jobs they'll have on that
mission, and get going soon.
VardaValar1: How about a trivia round, one apiece to ask the others?
AriehnV: mmmh aye could do some light convo about what people did last night
VardaValar1: Actually, need something that moves the plot along.
VardaValar1: Maybe what they are hoping to do on the mission.
AriehnV: Frali will wonder where he comes in .. he remembers that
Fainan mentioned something about seeing well in darkness of angmar and
his knowledge with rocks
ArPharazonV: Let's hunt some orc.
AriehnV: i think you argued something like that at the time if i remember Varda
VardaValar1: Argued? : ) Aye, it's part of where his talents lie.
AriehnV: well yeah you mentioned that i mean
VardaValar1: We may be losing some of our party members and those left may need to take bigger roles.
VardaValar1: Menelvagor and Indis have stopped coming to meetings, so we may need to put their jobs on other members.
AriehnV: send somebody else instead of Indis .. someone useful :-)
AriehnV: less of bookworm maybe but skilled ..
ArPharazonV: Aww, poor Meren :-)
VardaValar1: I mean that the members we now have may have to do more duties.
VardaValar1: Not bring in more characters since we don't have more writers.
VardaValar1: I'd like to see Menel and Indis keep doing their established characters, but it's not something we force.
ArPharazonV: Is Indis still active in LotRO, and if so, have you talked to her about it?
VardaValar1: It could expand some of our current characters, not a bad thing.
VardaValar1: Indis is active very much in LotRO. Some days she says hi. : )
ArPharazonV: Heh.
VardaValar1: She games very hard.
VardaValar1: I admire that.
AriehnV: maybe I will send Aranwe the next morning to Frali to see how
he is doing and maybe give him some advice how to encounter the
corruption of the sword or how to recognise threats in the party ..
AriehnV: i just like the guy
VardaValar1: On the mission itself, we need to each just play one character.
GwaihirValar: It's time for me to start dinner - take care everyone!
VardaValar1: Namarie and thanks, Gwaihir. :-)
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
AriehnV: .Namarie
ArPharazonV: Hmm, maybe I should make a healer and a tank and have a balanced party of 3 characters within the normal party!
VardaValar1: I see at least two sudden deaths coming.
ArPharazonV: Not with that balance.
VardaValar1: We tried doing something like that in a version of Dungeons and Dragons. It's not pretty.
VardaValar1: We need to do the balance inside the party we have.
VardaValar1: Frali could make a tank or off-tank with Auros. : )
ArPharazonV: Well we only have one healer, I think, so we'd better bring Meren along!
VardaValar1: I'd like to. Maybe she'd come back if we get the rp moving along again. Would be good.
ArPharazonV: Silent partner. Just have her heal us and not say anything if Indis is quitting.
VardaValar1: She never said she quit. Neither did Menel. They just aren't here.
AriehnV: i d understand if Menel quit .. he was quite busy with student
thing .. but Meren .. i guess yes if the rp gets going again
VardaValar1: It's possible, aye.
AriehnV: i ll ask her when i see her .. i ll come on lotro tomorrow
VardaValar1: I expect to as well.
VardaValar1: I am on most days. : )
ArPharazonV: Well yeah, I only said "if"... ask her when you see her, about what needs to be done :-)
VardaValar1: Phar, you have a good idea about what your character's role would be?
ArPharazonV: In the combat sense, or what I'd bring to the mission?
VardaValar1: Fainan's tends to be ranged shooting. ;-) But she could also scout, act as a sensor package. First aid.
VardaValar1: Both.
VardaValar1: Maybe we can see where we need to beef up our act.
ArPharazonV: Pretty much ranged, yes. Shorter range, maybe, than Fainan. But I could do some melee dps as well if needed :-)
VardaValar1: *slaps the mixed metaphor*
ArPharazonV: And scouting works. Especially concerning communication with the environment.
VardaValar1: Fainan's not as good at melee, but can survive pretty well there. Not have to be protected much at least.
ArPharazonV: Hey there, bird in the sky! Are there any orcs nearby?
VardaValar1: O look. More rocks. ;-)
VardaValar1: Aye, our Radagast sort. : )
VardaValar1: Would your character need to establish some kind of rapport first?
ArPharazonV: Yes, little elf, please take care, they're hiding in the bushes over there!
VardaValar1: Like the thrush and raven had long-standing relationships.
ArPharazonV: Not sure if it's needed. It might help in recurring
appearances, but in most cases I can simply communicate with them for
simple stuff.
ArPharazonV: Maybe if I free a bunny from a trap he'll help me a bit more, that sort of thing.
VardaValar1: Oh, for those who had trouble because the forum made you
jump through hoops if you misspelled the password, exit the forurm and
come back in to skip that mess.
VardaValar1: Aye, that would be establishing a rapport. Like Gandalf helping the eagle in The Hobbit book.
ArPharazonV: But mostly the beasties should take a look at us, realize we're elves, and give us the benefit of the doubt.
Eonwe Valar: Unless they serve Sauron.
ArPharazonV: It could become a rather odd situation if I had to make
sure to meet every animal twice before I could get anything out of them.
ArPharazonV: Yes, unless that. And if I remember our story right, even then... ;-)
VardaValar1: Something like crebain scouts for the Enemy.
VardaValar1: We were originally trying to base this off LotRO, as
something to do while waiting for that game to come out. If that helps
anyone figure.
VardaValar1: The lore-master had pets.
VardaValar1: Guess we can just say we wandered afield since then. : )
VardaValar1: Calion is established as good with animals.
ArPharazonV: Well I don't mind putting in some LotRO details, but you'd have to fill me in on them.
VardaValar1: Think I'll see if there's something I can get away with posting.
VardaValar1: The chapter does say "A Short Respite". Fits our little table group. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Says Meren and Fainan went to look for Auros.
VardaValar1: Fainan kind of backed off of disturbing him, but it was a good idea.
VardaValar1: Auros saw the little group in the Hall of Fire and was heading over to them.
VardaValar1: Calion went with Fainan to grab that snack.
VardaValar1: but the all went back to the lbrary?
AriehnV: Frali is there with a slighjt hangover but nothing that a dwarf cant deal with ^^
Eonwe Valar: From what I can tell, Meren, Calion, Frali, and Fainan are all in the Hall of Fire.
AriehnV: he went with Fainan i take it?
Eonwe Valar: (Anyone else notice all the Mirkwood Elves have names that end with "n"? :})
VardaValar1: Then they went back to the Hall of Fire again.
VardaValar1: Legolas just had to be different. : )
Eonwe Valar: I meant the ones in our group, but aye :}
VardaValar1: The library group carred some scrolls to the Hall of Fire, that were allowed out of the study.
VardaValar1: We have at the table: Meren, Calion, Fainan. Then
VardaValar1: Frali joined them and got caught up on their research findings.
VardaValar1: Auros entered the Hall of Fire, but went to talk with the Noldor.
VardaValar1: Then Meren leaves. She explores Imladris and talks with
some lore-masters about the research and fun chat. Then she went back
to the library.
VardaValar1: Fainan had hesitated to call Auros over until he was
through talking with his Noldor friends, so he may not have even
noticed the party.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you were going to post next. If Auros appears to be
leaving, Fainan will call to him at least to say hi and let him see
they are mostly all there. He had been looking for them earlier, not
sure if just to be friendly or for a reason.
VardaValar1: We can meet up with Meren in the library afterwards, probably.
VardaValar1: At this point. I'm kind of stuck for a post. : )
Eonwe Valar: Wait for mine :}
VardaValar1: Ok.
Eonwe Valar: It's coming soon (TM) hehe
VardaValar1: hehee
VardaValar1: If we have something up on the rp, chances are Meren will make a return. : )
ArPharazonV: If Meren's in the library, we also have a window of posting before we catch up with her
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, I don't see where Auros was looking for them in the story.
VardaValar1: just after the first time Meren and Fainan leave the library. I'll look for it.
VardaValar1: Reply #34
VardaValar1: Sept. 2, 2012
VardaValar1: That may have been the Noldor he was looking for there?
VardaValar1: Auros had returned home and made a hasty preparation for
the day. The night of celebration now behind him, his thoughts turned
northward, and though he had no current assignment, he sought the
others sent out after the Halfling's arrival. Coming to Elrond's halls,
he went immediately to the Hall of Fire, where he spied two of them in
a corner quietly conversing. One of them noticed Auros approach, and
motioning to him they began to discuss their mutual task.
Eonwe Valar: "he sought the others sent out after the Halfling's arrival" meant others sent out from Rivendell as he was.
VardaValar1: Someone should ask what happened to Haran. : ) Probably off-screen.
VardaValar1: Ok, not the group he was on the mission with, even though they are right there too.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, just coincidence, hehe.
VardaValar1: Heh
ArPharazonV: Maybe someone already has, Varda, and we don't now it :-)
ArPharazonV: *know it
ArPharazonV: If it was asked off-screen.
VardaValar1: Gang, I'm about out of time. Going to have to leave.
Eonwe Valar: The Mirkwood group was "sent out after the Halfling's
arrival" in the chronological sense, but not really as a direct result
of it :}
VardaValar1: I'll check on the post later on.
VardaValar1: *swings hammer*
VardaValar1: After-meeting
Eonwe Valar: Take care Varda :}
VardaValar1: Thanks : ) Namarie for now!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
GwaihirValar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Posted. Enjoy.
AriehnV: okay will read itr and then to bed ^^
ArPharazonV: Allright, reading.
ArPharazonV: More splitting the party, eh?
Eonwe Valar: Splitting it? Not really?
ArPharazonV: We were almost all in one room!
Eonwe Valar: Minues the second ?
Eonwe Valar: *Minus
ArPharazonV: Eh, nevermind.
AriehnV: hmm what do you want? bump into the party while trying to hide the sword :-)?
Eonwe Valar: Hehe. Presumably the sword is still in Meren's keeping, so
bumping into the party (or most of it) while trying to get it is more
likely :}
AriehnV: yup aye seems logical
AriehnV: you need to get it from Meren .. without Frali knowing of course3
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
AriehnV: goodie
ArPharazonV: Of course, now Arien knows, so you'll have a hard time avoiding Frali :-)
AriehnV: dinnae fash .. my character doesnt know what i know :-D
Eonwe Valar: hehe
AriehnV: Namarie for now :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well, belatedly :}
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
[Note: met Indis in LotRO and she said she's still interested in the rp and will jump in when it's Meren's time to post.]
