Before-meeting:
VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Happy 14th Anniversary! Congratulations on holding the
chat room open for the whole week. That was a real co-operative effort,
nearly impossible alone. :-)
VardaValar1: The LotRO group are hailing you now. Some of the comments:
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Irmohir: Aiya Nosse Valaina
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Hiurred: hello to the AIM people :-)
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Mahariel: Aiaya to those in the meeting
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Isaniel: sure, hi from me
ArPharazonV: I'm now reminded of the Eurovision songfestival and all the different hosts from countries greeting the audience.
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Erkendan: Hi!
VardaValar1: Sounds entertaining, Phar :-) And stay alive!
ArPharazonV: Also, hi to all LotRO people!
AriehnV: aiya valarim in Lotro :-)
VardaValar1: Others in LotRO for the howdy are Aeronwy (Gorlim),
Erkendan (Eomer), Lothelena (Nerdanel), and Brilanthir (Elwing).
VardaValar1: I'm copy/pasting your hi's back to them too. :-)
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Bilbo in rl says, "Howdy!"
AriehnV: :-D
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Brilanthir: hee Hi from me too (not noticing chat much)
VardaValar1: In other Membership news, our old Thranduil-(V) gifted his name to Legolas-(V), who's been wanting it since he joined. Nice father and son thing going there, in a way. :-)
VardaValar1: The old Thranduil needs to pick a new name, we'll know what it is later.
VardaValar1: Good to see Eonwe made it back into the AIM chat!
VardaValar1: Would anyone like to add anything to Membership news?
ArPharazonV: yes, but give me a few seconds
VardaValar1: Sure, stay alive!
galdorandwe: Aiya
VardaValar1: Galdor! Aiya :-) Happy 14th!
galdorandwe: Likewise.
AriehnV: a quick pleasant note on more private meeting but it has to do
with the fact that i met a couple from Dallas / Texas like our good
Varda here :-)
AriehnV: they were shopping today hehe
ArPharazonV:
Allright, just wanted to say I've had a bit of computer trouble.
Monitor stopped working yesterday for some reason, not sure if it's the
thing itself or the power adapter. Using my dad's for now, which is
widescreen, so a bit hard to get used to :-)
AriehnV: so just quick encouragement and note .. thats how to find me Real Life on skye :-D come shopping in the coop ;-)
AriehnV: in Portree i should say
AriehnV: but thats it ;-)
ArPharazonV: Will try to get the old one to the shop next week, and
probably get a new one. Hopefully about the same size as the old one,
totally adapted to it :-)
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: And that's my bit of trivia. Probably not interesting to
any of you, but I do like to keep you up to date with computer stuff on
my end.
ArPharazonV: I hope they still make them in these square-ish formats.
VardaValar1: As heavy computer users, and your being our long-time
friend, it is interesting. I like my widescreen, but it took a lot of
settings and getting used to. Things are far apart!
ArPharazonV: 1280x1027 and all that
ArPharazonV: *1024
ArPharazonV: yeah, they are
ArPharazonV: and the one I"m using is a bit lower than my old one too,
so things I used to keep to the lower half of my screen now take up a
bit more space.
AriehnV: i ve got 1440 x 900 on this atm
VardaValar1: Look away from the healing bars, far away, to see you're standing in fire!
ArPharazonV: Yeah, that's the one I've got right now, Arien. I don't like it much.
AriehnV: cant get a new one myself not yet , not before chrismas ^^ but even then i dont know whether i ll need one
VardaValar1: 1680 x 1050
AriehnV: but saying this .. this machine is about 2 years old
AriehnV: so we ll see
ArPharazonV: Everyone's using widescreen these days. I'm worried the other ones might not be available anymore.
ArPharazonV: I want one that's higher than this, anyway, but if it's as
wide as this I won't be able to put much stuff next to it.
ArPharazonV: bit limited in my space
VardaValar1: I saw one shelf where they sawed the side out to fit the screen. ^^
ArPharazonV: Ouch.
VardaValar1: Computer desk shelf. Hey, that's hacking! er, adapting!
AriehnV: 19 inhes this one ... but i really couldnt fit a bigger on this .. well maybe a bit but not much
AriehnV: i am sitting on one of these nifty mobile combuter desks
VardaValar1: Mobile desk?
VardaValar1: Ok, onwards. : )

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Thanks to the anniversary, we have a batch of new goodies.
VardaValar1: I apologize to Arien who sent her story on Anniversary day. It's up today.
VardaValar1: "Honor Redeemed"
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authors/Arien/stories/HonorRedeemed.htm
VardaValar1: We can recognize some of the chat we had at a previous meeting. ;-) Adds to the fun.
VardaValar1: Irmo sent in an article on Wolves. He's thinking maybe it
should be chopped into individual parts, we'll see what happens.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/w/wolvesI.htm
VardaValar1: That was in answer to reading the transcript. See? People do look in. :-)
VardaValar1: We have artwork from Nerdanel, of the book Nerdanel sculpting in Valinor.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/Nerdanel/caveNerdanel.htm
VardaValar1: Click the image to enlarge it. And there's a high res one for those with hot shot computers.
VardaValar1: Thank you all for helping with the Tolkien Site for the anniversary!
VardaValar1: We will be taking more anniversary offerings for the rest
of the month. Just mention that that's what the entry is for.
VardaValar1: We might even try tying in a scary October Halloween theme if we like!
VardaValar1: Does anyone have anything to add on Web, or comments on some of the entries?
VardaValar1: Eonwe maybe?
Eonwe Valar: Not I.
VardaValar1: Oh, and I've mentioned the Galadriel article by Irmo
before, but it bears mentioning as part of the anniversary wrap-up.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/g/Galadriel/GaladrielI/Galadriel1.htm

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to tell us what went on there?
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: And the sun went down. Good thing we have transcripts.
Eonwe Valar: Sure.
ArPharazonV: Eclipse!
Eonwe Valar: Sunday run:
Eonwe Valar: Attending: Eonwë, Bilbo, Varda, Eowyn, Elwing,
ArienWe didn't have enough for Ruby Sanctum, and Trial of the Crusader
looked iffy, so we decided to go to Obsidian Sanctum and Coren Direbrew
for the quick guild exp. Unfortunately we didn't get through Obsidian
Sanctum, so we just moved on to Coren Direbrew, then ran a random
normal Cataclysm dungeon.
Eonwe Valar: Friday:
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: woops sorry seems aim doesnt like wow :-\
AriehnV: disconnects me now and again
VardaValar1: Sun came back out!
AriehnV: right what did i miss?
Eonwe Valar: Elwing and I were the only ones to show for at least the
first couple of hours of run night. Having other things I needed to
attend to, I called it a night. I'm told Sauron came on later and he
and Elwing ran some stuff, however.
VardaValar1: WoW report by Eonwe
VardaValar1: Aye, they ran an instance trying to gear up a bit.
VardaValar1: WoW also had some anniversary activity. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye. I hope to have the pictures up during this week.
VardaValar1: Yay! :-)
Eonwe Valar: We shot fireworks at the 4 Alliance capitals, plus Gilneas, because the architecture there is too great not to see.
VardaValar1: Photo op!
Eonwe Valar: Then we ran Coren Direbrew 7 times for the quick guild exp before the event ended.
VardaValar1: Aye, it takes 7 times to complete that.
Eonwe Valar: Well, we have 7 opportunities for guidl experience.
ArPharazonV: When in doubt for guild xp, go for Coren?
Eonwe Valar: Coren was a fast kill, and he coulds as a guild challenge, so yeah, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: *coulds = counts
Eonwe Valar: Same thing for Headless Horseman.
ArPharazonV: oh, yes, that starts soon, doesn't it?
Eonwe Valar: Which may or may not be more fun of a fight than Coren Direbrew, depeneding on your preference :}
ArPharazonV: Time to get those new world event achievements done
VardaValar1: Coren is fast at least. : )
Eonwe Valar: Should be this week, or the next.
Eonwe Valar: That concludes my report.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe. :-)
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Monday would have
been our regular run, but we moved it to being the anniversary run on
Tuesday instead. People played anyway, running like mad in new content
and leveling.
VardaValar1: As a duo that morning just having fun, Irmo and Miriel hit the cap of 75.
VardaValar1: Tuesday we did our anniversary runs, two of them to handle the time zones and work times.
VardaValar1: The first run was 1pm Eastern, and has pictures on the forum put up by Miriel.
VardaValar1: The group met at Bree and played music, then shot off fireworks, some from the top of the Prancing Pony!
VardaValar1: It was a neat trick to get up there, and you need a horse to make the jump from behind the Pony.
VardaValar1: The evening run was at 8pm Eastern.
VardaValar1: We met at Bree instead of the intended kin house. This was
rather funny as the earlier group intended to meet in Bree but met in
the kin house.
VardaValar1: The evening run used the neat idea from the earlier run,
doing a slow walk on horses on /follow going to the area where we shot
fireworks.
VardaValar1: The next day we saw another group trying it, because it's just that cool.
VardaValar1: If the horse in front does a serpentine down the street, the whole line does it.
AriehnV: i remember climbing up the prancing pony roof hehe
VardaValar1: The evening group went to Bree, Michel Delving, Thorin's Hall, and Rivendell.
AriehnV: never been up there and a halfways decent screenie from up there unfortunately without fireworks
VardaValar1: People had to leave then, so we skipped the planned final run to Galtrev, but it was enough. : )
AriehnV: but all lined up
VardaValar1: Arien, if you'd like to post a screenie for that group run, it could go on the thread where Miriel put hers.
AriehnV: right
VardaValar1: I hope to put up some from the evening group. Not sure if it should go on the same thread or another.
VardaValar1: She does suggest putting them all there, so maybe mine after yours, Arien. :-)
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lotrogeneral&action=display&thread=1103
VardaValar1: Miriel also added some nice lettering!
VardaValar1: Wednesday we did our first 6-man together in the new area: The Culling Pit, and completed that for most.
VardaValar1: It seems that if a person dies, he doesn't get credit, so
we will be running it a number of times, heh, for mains and alts.
VardaValar1: As we are hitting level 75, the plan is to hit areas that
will give Superior 4th Marks to help us gear up. School/Library for
3-mans, and old familiar places revved up like Great Barrows,
Annuminas, and others.
VardaValar1: We also will be getting together for the Iron Pit now and then, in the new area, and undoubtedly other new fun.
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO comments?
VardaValar1: Any other games played this last week?
VardaValar1: Sauron and Bilbo like playing StarCraft 2 and have been.
ArPharazonV: Played some of that myself
ArPharazonV: still not silver league yet, and the league is about to be locked, so it's not going to happen :-)
VardaValar1: Do they start over?
ArPharazonV: They do, yes. Almost the end of the season, 2 weeks before
the end the leagues get locked down so you can't move between them, and
then we see who has the highest spot at the end of the season. After
that it all starts over.
VardaValar1: You'll be experienced next season. Veteran.
ArPharazonV: Heh. Maybe. At least we have a good chance at keeping first place in this one.
VardaValar1: Nice!
VardaValar1: Any other non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming?
AriehnV: ok screenies up
VardaValar1: Thanks Arien. :-)
AriehnV: bit eve as usual , but unfortunately a bit paralyzed there atm since we have a new war running and hence undock ban :-\
AriehnV: but thatts it
VardaValar1: Nice! Yours are thumbnails to click for enlarging.
VardaValar1: That shot of the "ruined gazebo" where we're in a circle
practicing, is the gazebo voted on by kinmates as the niftiest to put
in the kin house yard.
AriehnV: :-D
VardaValar1: Nice shot, thanks!
VardaValar1: Good one showing that we're actually on the roof there too, even if I'm only a head showing. ;-)
VardaValar1: Ok, we have a bit of good news from Eonwe about the forum. Go ahead, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: The short and sweet of it is that I've recovered the "Tips
and Suggestions" and "Other Authors" boards on the Forum, without a
loss of anything in either.
Eonwe Valar: If you'd like the more Tolkien-flavored version,...
Eonwe Valar: I, Herald of Manwë and leader of the armies of the
Valar, have marched beyond the Doors of Night, done battle with Morgoth
himself, and retrieved from his clutches two boards that have long
remained in the Timeless Void beyond the Walls of the World. I return
to my fellow inhabitants of Ea the "Tips and Suggestions" and the
"Other Authors" boards.
Eonwe Valar: The latter is what I put on the forum :}
VardaValar1: Huzzah! We thank you for your efforts and commend you on winning the battle!
AriehnV: Greatly done , cousin Eonwe
AriehnV: May the rays of eternal sunshine gladden your heart ?
AriehnV: *bows gracefully*
ArPharazonV: I wonder what else Morgoth took with him to the Void.
ArPharazonV: All the missing left socks?
VardaValar1: Now we know!
VardaValar1: What evil!
AriehnV: i thought it was the right ones ..
VardaValar1: The other left?
AriehnV: but then maybe he confused left and right :0
ArPharazonV: Maybe both?
VardaValar1: He purposely mixed it up!
top
VardaValar1: Onward to Tolkien, kind of related.for the topic. : )
VardaValar1: JRRT gave us both the fabulously beautiful and the scarily spooky. The contrast made each stronger.
VardaValar1: Can we think of some examples of spooky? Maybe even how it might have had an opposite?
ArPharazonV: All I think can think of right now is the Nine Riders vs the nine walkers :-)
ArPharazonV: I suppose there's Orcs and Elves too.
VardaValar1: Those are good ones!
VardaValar1: Galadriel imagining if she had the One Ring vs the Galadriel who sang and gave gifts and advice.
Eonwe Valar: The Barrow Downs.
Eonwe Valar: That place is all about the spooky factor.
ArPharazonV: Minas Morgul vs Minas Tirith.
Eonwe Valar: That's how the wights get travellers to wander off the beaten path and get trapped.
VardaValar1: Aye, and right next to the Barrow Downs is the best place to be, at the house of Bombadil.
VardaValar1: How about eating honey cakes with Beorn next to Mirkwood, with Dol Guldur not far away inside that forest.
ArPharazonV: A lovely town surrounded by water, not too far from a towering mountain ruled by fire? :-)
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like Laketown in the time Smaug lived in the Lonely Mountain :}
ArPharazonV: Exactly!
VardaValar1: Nice.
VardaValar1: Arien is posting LotRO pics and gave permission to show the spot: http://s1120.photobucket.com/albums/l481/ArienV/Lotro%20Screenshots/
Eonwe Valar: Ithilien might qualify as both. It's a land in the process
of being "Mordor-ified" as I recall. Long enough to feel its affects,
not long enough to completely forget the beauty it once held.
AriehnV: and the presence of Elves .. dont go there if you dont like elves ^^
Eonwe Valar: Ithilien?
VardaValar1: Also, the beautiful woods of Ithilien next door to Mordor.
AriehnV: they would have liked it and they did
AriehnV: when they returned after the ring war
VardaValar1: Legolas did set up a colony of elves from Mirkwood in Ithilien after the War of the Ring.
VardaValar1: Faramir as prince of Ithilien was fine with it, and
Legolas fixed up a nice garden for him too, as well as for Minas Tirith.
VardaValar1: Valinor next to the Helcaraxe.
AriehnV: Gandalf uncloaked versus Gandalf the Grey in Hobbiton
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Erkendan: well , as an example from one of the
books, Id say the juxtaposition of the Hobbits' situation in the Barrow
Downs with Tom Bombadil's jovial demeanor
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Brilanthir: how about the riddle "game" between Bilbo and Gollum...riddling for life or death =-O
ArPharazonV: Gandalf the Grey wasn't that spooky, was he? :-)
AriehnV: but Gandalf uncloaked :-)
ArPharazonV: Ah, was that supposed to be the bad one?
AriehnV: remember the conversation between Bilbo and him before Bilbo left?
AriehnV: no not bad , but "spooky"
VardaValar1: Aye, Gandalf had a bit of a memory problem when he first came back.
AriehnV: i thought it was quite well done in the film
VardaValar1: galdorandwe: would Eol count?
VardaValar1: Aye, they mixed the two actors together in voice and image. Spooky indeed.
Eonwe Valar: Aman to the rest of Arda, hehe.
VardaValar1: Cuivienen next to the part of Middle-earth overrun by Morgoth's horrors.
VardaValar1: We seem to be mostly elsewhere at the moment, so I'm calling After-meeting.
VardaValar1: *swings gavel*
VardaValar1: *whomp*
top
VardaValar1: After-meeting
VardaValar1: About those pictures like Arien did on Photobucket for the game. If others want to do that too, I could set up a web page with urls to those.
VardaValar1: Maybe some would be usable to help illustrate the Tolkien Site, rather as we do with art?
VardaValar1: A thought.
VardaValar1: Namarie for now!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Those who want to may continue keeping up the chat room, but it's no longer the marathon, just for fun contact. :-)
VardaValar1: If you're online anyway, why not? :-)
ArPharazonV: Ayup, I'll probably hang out in here for a bit longer.
VardaValar1: Cool :-)
VardaValar1: It's kind of nice to have some of us available here. Reminds me of our old Battlenet between games. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Side-note: Hallow's End begins the 18th, so that's a week from Tuesday.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe. :-)
ArPharazonV: ah, thanks
galdorandwe: Ia anyone actually still here?
Eonwe Valar: Yes :}
VardaValar1: It's After-meeting. but yes. :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm here.
galdorandwe: I'm almost finished rereading the Silmarillion again...Having the Atlas of ME has been a big help this time around. It's also difficult to reread the storyies without getting the images from Unfinished Tales, BLT1 and BLT2 and Lost Road in my head.
galdorandwe: Geez, my typing and spelling stink
galdorandwe: Bt that I mean the information that didn't make it into the Silmarillion in the end.
VardaValar1: Aye, the other books are great for adding in details! Well worth reading.
fladrifv has left the room.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: WoW's first run ended. Arien and I are done there for now.
galdorandwe: :-)
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
VardaValar1: Thank you, Phar :-)
