ArPharazonV: ouch
Eonwe Valar:
LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: Usual suspects, plus a new
one in Palantir :}
karakedi25: I'm in game and have the list of recent players in
front of me.
VardaValar1: Flad says
but my Aiya to
you all there
karakedi25: In order of recency:
karakedi25: Nellas, Indis, Tar-Palantir, Tulkas, Eomer, Daddy
Twofoot, Landroval...
karakedi25: Gorlim, Orome, Eonwe, Morwe, Varda....
karakedi25: Pippin, Gildor, Nimrodel, Lindir...
karakedi25: Rosie, Ancalagon (more recent but I missed him),
Angrod...
karakedi25: Faramir, Finarfin...
karakedi25: Fundin, Gwindor
karakedi25: (sorry, Gwindor was 20 days ago). Also various
incarnations of Melkor through the hand of one of his relatives.
VardaValar1: Orome's been bringing in
Melkor's characters as requested by Melkor, aye.
karakedi25: Spring Festival continues. Some of us are pushing at
end-game; those with lower-level alts are also grouping in the Lone
Lands (Wastes of Cardolan).
karakedi25: That's all I can think of atm.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Indis :}
TulkasValar61: Anyone know when Melkor gets
home from his holidays? I miss my weekday games with him, middle earth
can be lonely when
most of the participants are in school or at work
VardaValar1: Last night we were taking
some of our new folks' mains that are in their 20's through epic book
quests and group quests.
VardaValar1: That would be the morning
time when you two were running together?
VardaValar1: Sometime this month, not
sure exactly when.
TulkasValar61: Yep I get on at 5 am eastern
usually with my first coffee and he shows up at 7 ish
VardaValar1: Dis is a morning player
often, coming in before work and in the friend channel.
VardaValar1: She's on CST
VardaValar1: If Orome is still online he
could probably tell you.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news? Also,
send me Tolkien topics. Don't want to resort to the Wheel of Destiny
again, do we? :}
VardaValar1: I'm requesting more entries
for the Tolkien Site. The number has dropped dramatically this past year
for new ones.
VardaValar1: Make sure your character is
represented on the site. : )
Eonwe Valar: Yikes.
ArPharazonV: oh, I've got some gaming news
TulkasValar61: Im going to bow out of
meeting,, not in the right frame of mind. gonna go skewer some bad guys
for a bit and then to bed
early,,house has been full of family all week. last one went home 2
hours ago so I am on the tired side
VardaValar1: Sounds like a good plan.
ArPharazonV: Sleep well, Tulkas!
VardaValar1: I'm hoping for a quick
meeting too.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Tulkas.
VardaValar1: Enjoy LotRO. : )
TulkasValar61
has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I don't know if it was this week or last week, and if
we've discussed it before, but the official
World of Warcraft forums got
a
new forum, the Lore
forum
Eonwe Valar: Aka Story forum on the US
fora :}
ArPharazonV: ah, right, I was looking for the correct name, Story
forum it could be
VardaValar1: Do we have an URL?
ArPharazonV:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=26354482
VardaValar1: Phar
is great with URL's. : )
ArPharazonV: Well I've got about 40+ firefox-tabs open at any given
time, and since i'm currently reading that forum, it's easy to get ;-)
Eonwe Valar: That's the US one it seems,
so no need for me to post a link :}
ArPharazonV: Aye. I have not seen a European version yet, if there
ever will be one.
ArPharazonV: Oh, it appears I'm mistaken, there is one at
http://forums.wow-europe.com/board.html
ArPharazonV: Huh. Guess I've got 2
versions to keep up with if I can stand that, because i'm trying to read
up on all the threads ;-)
ArPharazonV: taking an awful lot of time, I can tell you
ArPharazonV: it's mostly meant for discussing lore and answering
questions about it, and there's some interesting information that I
hadn't heard before (mostly
because I've neither played Horde, nor seriously read any novels/comics)
ArPharazonV: it's also making me want to read those novels, because
there seems to be quite some development in them that gets included
into WoW in what seems
to be an increasing rate, especially with Cataclysm drawing near
ArPharazonV: so I'd recommend any lore-fan to keep an eye on those
forums, though I wouldn't recommend going as fanatically at it as I'm
trying to at the moment
Eonwe Valar: I've stopped by there every
now and then :}
Eonwe Valar: Haven't seen anything that
really catches my eye on it yet, though it's still young, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, thanks for
announcing that forum, because I'm pretty sure it's new this week and I
didn't mention it :}
ArPharazonV: *nod*
Eonwe Valar: Let's move on to Tolkien.
VardaValar1: "Why do races stay in the
Dark Ages" caught my eye.
VardaValar1:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=24038769257
VardaValar1: okies : )
ArPharazonV: I'm currently in 13 pages of complaints about Jaina's
personality on the fourth page, it's a bit unsettling
ArPharazonV: though that topic looks nice
ArPharazonV: anyway, that's my topic done, continue with Tolkien
;-)
Eonwe Valar: Jaina has been made a "peace
at any cost" kind of character.
ArPharazonV: almost the opposite of Garrosh...
Eonwe Valar: Or Garrosh the opposite of
Jaina, since her attitutde extends further back.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, before this turns to
WoW discussion :}
ArPharazonV: :-)
top
Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: *Pulls forward the Wheel of
Destiny*
VardaValar1: Tolkien Moment comes up!
Eonwe Valar: Last chance :}
Eonwe Valar: Varda's floor :}
VardaValar1: There are moments in Tolkien
that stand out. Some for beauty, some for amazement, some for horror.
VardaValar1: One that seemed to have all
three is one I'm trying to dig up before the wheel turned.
VardaValar1: Feel free if someone else
has a Tolkien moment whilst I dig this one out.
karakedi25:
The Glittering Caves of Aglarond and Helms Deep?
VardaValar1: I meant something we can
quote. : )
Eonwe Valar:
"And thus in anguish, Beren
paid/ for that great doom upon him laid".. oh, you meant from Sil or
LotR? :}
ArPharazonV: Thinking of those 3 factors, one combination that
comes to mind would be
Galadriel's near-"transformation" when Frodo
offers her the Ring (though I
remember that more vividly from the movie)
VardaValar1: Any book for the Moments.
Eonwe Valar: The movie version did get a
bit,.. overzealous, with that scene.
VardaValar1: ok, if we're going to do
mentions instead of Moment quoting, mine was
Fingon's rescue of Maedhros
from the cliff, riding the eagle and
having to cut off Maedhros' hand.
Eonwe Valar: I can only quote from memory
about 3 more lines of the Lay of Leithien that I quoted from :}
Eonwe Valar:
"Then Fingon the valiant, son
of Fingolfin, resolved to heal the feud that divided the Noldor, before
their Enemy should be ready for war;
Eonwe Valar:
for the earth trembled in
the Northlands with the thunder of the forges of Morgoth underground.
Long before, in the bliss of Valinor, before
Melkor was unchained, or lies came between them, Fingon had been close
in friendship with Maedhros;
Eonwe Valar:
and though he knew not yet
that Maedhrtos had not forgotten him at the burning of the ships, the
thought of their ancient friendship stung his
heart.
Eonwe Valar:
Therefore he dared a deed
which is justly renowned among the feats of the princes of the Noldor;
alone, and without the counsel of any, he
set forth in search of Maedhros;
Eonwe Valar:
and aided by the very
darkness that Morgoth had made he came unseen into the fastness of his
foes. High upon the shoulders of
Thangorodrim he climbed, and looked indespair upon the desolation of the
land;
Eonwe Valar:
but no passage or crevice
could he find through which he might come within Morgoth's stronghold.
Then in defiance of the Orcs, who
cowered still in the dark vaults beneath the earth, he took his harp and
sang a song of Valinor that the Noldor made of old, before strife was
born
among the Sons of Finwė;
Eonwe Valar:
and his voice rang in the
mournful hollows that had never heard before aught save cries of fear
and woe.
Eonwe Valar:
Thus Fingon found what he
sought. For suddenly aboev him far and faint his song was taken up, and a
voice answering called to him.
Maedhros it was that sang amid his torment.
Eonwe Valar:
But Fingon climbed to the
foot of the precipice where his kinsman hung, and then could go no
further; and he wept when he saw the cruel
device of Morgoth. Maedhros therefore, being in anguish without hope,
begged Fingon to shoot him with his bow;
Eonwe Valar:
and Fingon strung an arrow,
and bent his bow. And seeing no better hope he cried to Manwė, saying:
'O King to whom all birds are dear,
speed now this feathered shaft, and recall some pity for the Noldor in
their need!'
Eonwe Valar:
His prayer was answered
swiftly. For Manwė to whom all birds are dear, and to whom they bring
news upon Taniquetil from Middle-Earth,
had sent forth the race of Eagles, commanding them to dwell in the crags
of the North, and to keep watch upon Morgoth;
Eonwe Valar:
for Manwė still had pity for
the exiled Elves. And the Eagles brought news of much that passed in
those days to the sad ears of Manwė.
Now, even as Fingon bent his bow, there flew down from the high airs
Thorondor, King of Eagles, mightiest of all birds that have ever been,
Eonwe Valar:
whose outstretched wings
spanned thirty fathoms; and staying Fingon's hand he took him up, and
bore him to the face of the rock where
Maedhros hung. But Fingon could not release the hellwrought bond upon
his wrist, nor sever it, nor draw it from the stone.
Eonwe Valar:
Again therefore in his pain
Maedhros begged that he would slay him; but Fingon cut off his hand
above the wrist, and Thorondor bore them
back to Mithrim."
Eonwe Valar: And that's a mouthful, hehe.
VardaValar1: Thank you, a lot of typing
on your part!
VardaValar1: But there we can see the
combination of beauty, courage, loyalty, amazement, horror in one scene.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: We also don't find Maedhros
to be bitter toawrd Fingon about the hand. He goes on to become an even
deadlier lefty.
VardaValar1: Fingon saved his life and
stopped the torture.
ArPharazonV: He begged him to kill him first. If you're desperate
enough to want that, you probably wouldn't blame him for taking off your
hand.
VardaValar1: Indis requested that
next
meeting we discuss writing systems, so we should proabably all dig into
that a bit before the next meeting.
Eonwe Valar: Short of trips into HoME,
I'm pretty sure the majority of our writing sytstem knowledge is going
to come from LotR appendices.
Eonwe Valar: *system
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Some from Sil
ArPharazonV: when it comes to pronounciation, partially Sil, yes,
but when it comes to script, I'm not sure the Sil has much on that?
Eonwe Valar: I'm not recalling anything
specific, no.
VardaValar1: Writing system origins
mainly.
VardaValar1: Not much.
Eonwe Valar: Shall we bang the gavel and
let everyone go about their day?
VardaValar1: Sounds good
Eonwe Valar: Missing Arien and Menel, so
would be hard to discuss the
RP here.
Eonwe Valar: Good thing we have a
discussion thread for the RP too :}
VardaValar1: :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure there's all that much to discuss at the
moment anyway, without writing a few more posts first.
VardaValar1: Mainly we need to post.
VardaValar1: We do have a post for
Estarion from Menelvagor.
VardaValar1: He slipped off into the
trees.
ArPharazonV: ah, right
VardaValar1: This is a problem for Fainan
who has to see to the mission and get Auros out of Mirkwood in one
piece.
ArPharazonV: *ponders* I could have Calaron confront Estarion... I
envisioned a brotherly reunion, but interacing him with someone else's
character might be a fun twist,
they're both in the trees now anyway
VardaValar1: She'll have to let Estarion
go, since it was by his own choice.
ArPharazonV: *interacting
VardaValar1: That could be interesting. : )
VardaValar1: Splitting the party, always a
bad idea. : )
ArPharazonV: Without planning, even. Just short post-by-post
dialogue. See if we can keep it from going into god-moding combat ;-)
VardaValar1: Right. Be sure to know what
Calaron can and can't do. Also that the real Calaron might pull punches
for the body here and there to prevent
kinslaying.
ArPharazonV: if I could capture Estarion, anyway... it would be a
motivation for our characters to head into the trees
VardaValar1: Estarion also has to avoid
kinslaying.
VardaValar1: Avari don't have the same
history on the kinslaying, so he could have a different attitude
somewhat.
VardaValar1: I was trying to string out
the baddies so we would be capable of dealing with them as a group, but
now we're getting strung out. oops.
ArPharazonV: I could interrogate him, try to see what he knows, and
when the other characters show up to rescue Estarion, Calaron retreats
and leaves the message to bring
to Calion, to look him up... in Angmar
ArPharazonV: this is all brainstorming here, of course
VardaValar1: Thing is, would we jeapardize
the mission for Estarion, when he left voluntarily?
VardaValar1: Aye, this is the place for
it outside the forum of course. : )
ArPharazonV: That's a problem, yes, of course. Estarion isn't clued
into the actual mission a lot, is he, so we could afford to lose his..
information?
ArPharazonV: nor do we know that that's what Calaron is after
VardaValar1: Fainan hardly knows anything
either.
VardaValar1: Good thing Auros hasn't told
us.
ArPharazonV: True.
VardaValar1: Also, we're not alone in the
woods.
ArPharazonV: Even the trees have ears?
VardaValar1: Start a fight with noise and
that party we bunked with could be in the thick of it.
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: us getting reinforcements by.. frankly.. npcs, could
be another twist
VardaValar1: Maybe just to save Estarion
who might have to be written off otherwise.
VardaValar1: If Calaron uses him as a
messenger, we don't have to "bring in the eagles".
VardaValar1: Ok, so that should let us
have something to chew on for this week. : )
Eonwe Valar: "None and none! What I leave
behind I count as no loss!" Wait, that's Fėanor, not Auros... :}
VardaValar1: hehehe
VardaValar1: Maybe... ;-)
ArPharazonV: Aye. I think I'll write up the confrontation, without
Menel's knowledge even if he doesn't read this before I post :-)
VardaValar1: I look forward to that.
ArPharazonV: unplanned combat between 2 played characters might be
fun, and different from the pre-planned duel between Auros and Estarion
earlier, even if it just ends
up being 2 lines for every post.
VardaValar1: Fainan will have to watch out
for Auros, so if he decides to go back for Estarion, she will too. She
would hate to leave anyone behind.
ArPharazonV: Aye. And Calion will jump at the chance to follow you
into the trees, having identified the arrow.
VardaValar1: It might be more of a verbal
combat too, if you are using him as a messenger. Just turn him loose.
ArPharazonV: Well at first Calaron will be the one trying to ask
the questions, since he doesn't know tha tEstarion doesn't know
anything.
VardaValar1: Fainan would like to just
drag the lot on down the road and dump them out of Mirkwood. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Go back to sitting in trees
making arrows peacefully? :}
VardaValar1: Aye, uncomplicated slaughter
of orcs and spiders, much preferred.
VardaValar1: I think I'm going to fade
off into the starry night now. : )
VardaValar1: Namarie, friends.
Eonwe Valar: OK
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
VardaValar1: (oops, sun is shining)
top
Eonwe Valar:
Aftermeeting, be about your
business all :}
ArPharazonV: not here it isn't ;-)
ArPharazonV: but since it's Easter-weekend, I've got tomorrow off,
so no rush to go sleepy jus tyet
VardaValar1: Maybe soon. hehe
ArPharazonV: nah, only 1 am
VardaValar1: Namarie :-)
ArPharazonV: namarie
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
VardaValar1: Who, me?
VardaValar1: ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1
has left the room.
AriehnV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AriehnV:
woops aiya soorry people just completely
forgot , lost time and everything else not to mention the way and
balance in Naxx
ArPharazonV: well... we've been done for just over half an hour,

AriehnV: so i think its enough lol
and since the electric guy we ve been 8 man
ArPharazonV: well go ahead now, it doesn't really matter anymore

ArPharazonV: oh, Thaddius?
AriehnV:
aye :-)
AriehnV: moaning healer about us
being slow losers bla blah u know the sort likely
ArPharazonV: in 5-man pugs, yeah, but I don't really raid with such
people
AriehnV:
why so high gear score and ages on a naxx
boss? i bet u heard it before#
AriehnV: oki do its a guild run lol
AriehnV: so actually not too bad
ArPharazonV: ah :-) well, still
ArPharazonV: we wouldn't really be making our way through ICC if we
had that mentality
ArPharazonV: and I like having high gear in old instances, to be
honest ;-) I do lvl 70 raids with various people (there's a specialized
chat-channel there) and my ICC tanking
gear usually makes sure that we have little trouble in any of the
places, when it comes to tanking
AriehnV:
cool |:-)
AriehnV:
we didnt scratch him much , a tiny bit lol 3
dps down
AriehnV: but really was fun and thats
