VardaValar1: Web

"Theoden" Scalzo-(TV)
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/b/Beleg/BelegT.htm
VardaValar1: We can use help by people who can translate French or
Italian : )
VardaValar1: Anything else on the Web making front?
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: What games have been played that aren't WoW and that
aren't the betas that we aren't allowed to discuss?
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: *thinks*
FinduilasV: a bit WC
III actually
Bior the Ythling: i bought archlord this week
VardaValar1: Ok, a bunch of us are in betas
FinduilasV: Frozen Throne
VardaValar1: ahh, good.
FinduilasV: it would be nice to get some help in Battle. Net , Phara
ArPharazonV: help?
FinduilasV: so we can meet may be some point
ArPharazonV: what do you need help with?
FinduilasV: how this works alas
Eonwe Valar: I played Spider Solitaire :}
Bior the Ythling: lol
Star of Phaet: me too, Eonwe :-\
VardaValar1: I played D&D Eberron with some of the Valar, but it
was on our dining table. : )
Eonwe Valar: Dining tables are not computers :}
VardaValar1: oops : )
VardaValar1: Still had three Valar and three guild-friends at the
table. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
VardaValar1: and three Valar members that came by to kibitz.
VardaValar1: Bior, how did you like Archlord so far?
Bior the Ythling: its a very good game but it still has a lot of bugs
and doesnt have a very big population
Bior the Ythling: the actual archlord castles have not been input into
the game so the pvp lacks
VardaValar1: Needs more beta work?
Bior the Ythling: they shouldnt have taken it out of beta
Bior the Ythling: they are releasing new patches all the time tho
VardaValar1: Sounds like it was rushed out too soon, aye.
Bior the Ythling: yes maam
VardaValar1: That sounds like beta too : )
VardaValar1: Thanks. That's good to know
VardaValar1: Bior is really Elladan, by the way
VardaValar1: Who do we ask now for the WoW Euro report?
VardaValar1: First, do we have an Argent Dawn Valar charter set up by
anyone yet?
FinduilasV: hmm I have some good news on my Pala :-)
VardaValar1: Which server, Fin?
FinduilasV: Argent Dawn
VardaValar1: Thanks. Go ahead.
FinduilasV: He has reached level 40 on Thursday as planned :-)
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
FinduilasV: And is only ten k away from 41, he went exploring way
across Badlands, end of Swamlp of sorrows
VardaValar1: Nice : )
FinduilasV: and did RFD twice with Echoriath :-)
FinduilasV: Menels rogue
FinduilasV: I got some really nice stuff, a wicked twohander
Excaliiboar hehe
FinduilasV: I can get critical hits of 410 lol
VardaValar1: Thanks, Fin
ArPharazonV: good news for my druid too
VardaValar1: Phar, do you have any Argent Dawn news?
ArPharazonV: he got two items he wanted for a long time in Naxxramas,
including one of the best catweapons in the game, the End of Dreams
ArPharazonV: which, concerning its great power, is a fitting name...
since there is nothing to dream about that's better :-)
ArPharazonV: the other was a great bear-ring which I had been waiting
for many weeks as well
VardaValar1: Congrats! That End of Dreams is pretty terrific
ArPharazonV: our raidgroup progressed a bit further, defeating a major
hassle called Patchwerk, and 2 easier bosses behind him, Grobbulus and
Gluth
VardaValar1: You folks in Europe, have you tried out the Ventrilo
that Alatar set up?
ArPharazonV: Grobbu dropped that end of dreams
VardaValar1: Good to know the one who drops it. Thanks!
ArPharazonV: we're trying to kill Thaddius from here on, the next boss,
who drops the headpieces
ArPharazonV: for all classsets
ArPharazonV: already managed to slay his two undead lackies, but he
himself as yet stands undefeated
ArPharazonV: as for Ventrilo, I don't have a microphone myself
ArPharazonV: but I could try listening from time to time...
VardaValar1: They aren't very expensive, but I recommend at least a 10
dollar headset. : )
FinduilasV: oh btw , Findu got rid of a lvl 45 guard hehe
VardaValar1: We have the Ventrilo info on the Forum for members
FinduilasV: and 38 elite Tiger and crocodile
FinduilasV: sorry Panteher
VardaValar1: Congrats : )
VardaValar1: WoW
Lothar report?
Oessala has entered the room.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Orodreth
VardaValar1: We had Lothar members coming on for Friday gaming, but we
were sort of all just off time for each other
VardaValar1: We did some runs together in pairs, but mostly it was
howdys
VardaValar1: I'll try to remember some who came by
VardaValar1: Arwen, Merry, Ararthorn, Sauron, Bilbo, Varda
VardaValar1: some others dropped in
VardaValar1: Bilbo and Sauron got some raids together but mostly pugs
and friends,
VardaValar1: The two of them could not take on those higher instances
on their own, so they did the pug route.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Many of our WoW gang is moving a lot to the beta that must
not be named
ArPharazonV: oh, btw, my paladin continued her swim around the Eastern
Kingdoms, but halted after getting to the northeast corner
VardaValar1: They dropped in for a short time on WoW Lothar, then
mostly ran back to that game. I think we could be in trouble in WoW
VardaValar1: Marathon swimmer continues!
ArPharazonV: I have her parked at the coast where eventually
Quel'thalas will come in the expansion, and the land is added...
ArPharazonV: I want to see what happens to her at that point :-)
VardaValar1: These are also the same people who mostly show in Uldaman
server, so we have intermittent gaming there too. Hey, the beta goes
down for maintenance. : )
VardaValar1: Maybe you'll get to swim her after the meeting? : )
VardaValar1: Please whisper Tolkien topics
ArPharazonV: no, I think I'll keep her parked there for a month or 2,
if I can wait that long
ArPharazonV: as I said, I want to see what happens to her when the
expansion arrives, and the location she is at now should completely
disappear at that point
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: oh, I see now. : )
VardaValar1: Let us know how that experiment turns out!
ArPharazonV: wonder if she'll end up getting ported to her
Hearthstone-location... or located in Quel'thalas :-)
VardaValar1: Welcome back, Eonwe. Netsplit or crash?
Eonwe Valar: I don't know :}
Eonwe Valar: I was still connected.
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: I'm pretty sure I didn't click in the wrong place while
updating the Players pages.
VardaValar1: And that is some good Web news!
VardaValar1: Eonwe, go ahead
Eonwe Valar: Recently I've been thinking about the physical differences
among Elves. What, if any, are they?
VardaValar1: Do you suppose that would go along with the language
differences, since they would both be caused by separation?
Eonwe Valar: We have height as one, as the Calaquendi are taller than
the Moriquendi.
VardaValar1: The Avari might have looked a lot like the original
Quendi, maybe?
Eonwe Valar: Languages differences would be affected by time separated,
aye.
VardaValar1: Aye, the closer they came to Valinor and the more
Valinorean influences, the more educated and physically powerful they
became.
VardaValar1: The Vanyar would probably have become the greatest of the
Elves that way.
VardaValar1: The Noldor would be second.
VardaValar1: The Teleri stayed out near the shore of Valinor
VardaValar1: The Sindar/Twilight Elves/Grey Elves came to the shore and
had a little influence.
VardaValar1: Some tried to come to Valinor, but were stopped part way
by good land or physical obstacles.
VardaValar1: So each group would have a physical and linguistic
difference?
Eonwe Valar: To some extent, aye.
Eonwe Valar: Any living in Beleriand would've eventually spoken
Sindarin to some degree though.
ArPharazonV: there's also the haircolor, which was different among
various Elven peoples
VardaValar1: Accents might be the main thing. Like the Lothlorien
Silvans having so much difference in dialect from those of Mirkwood.
Bior the Ythling has left the room.
VardaValar1: The hair color is a knotty problem. : )
Eonwe Valar: Stature seems, at least among the Children of Eru, to
imply a closeness to Light.
Arwen V1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arwen!
VardaValar1: We were just talking about elves and their different types
: )
Eonwe Valar: I specifiy among the Child of Eru, since Gandalf's body
was shorter than some of the Elves at the Council of Elrond :}
VardaValar1: Aye. The Istari were in disguise, trying to be counselors
rather than intimidating warrior champions.
Arwen V1: Aiya :-)
VardaValar1: Then we have part-elves, such as Arwen here. : )
VardaValar1: And those with a bit of Maia mixed in
ArPharazonV: I'm a bit part elf....
ArPharazonV: very very very tiny bit
VardaValar1: Suppose the Maia might have helped hide some of the human
characteristics?
VardaValar1: On the hair, we have only two we are pretty sure of.
VardaValar1: The Vanyar are known to have golden hair for sure.
VardaValar1: The Noldor had black or dark hair with grey eyes.
VardaValar1: Except when Vanya and Noldo mixed in the House of Finarfin?
Eonwe Valar: Two Elves managed to get silver hair.
ArPharazonV: the Sindar had grey hair, no?
ArPharazonV: or was that just Thingol?
VardaValar1: Aye, the silver hair in the Sindar. Thingol got his silver
hair after his meeting with Melian changed it.
VardaValar1: Celeborn had silver hair
VardaValar1: Galadriel had a mix of gold and silver that made hers very
special and bright.
VardaValar1: Possibly true of some or all her siblings? Finrod for
instance?
Eonwe Valar: Glorfindel had gold hair, so I speculate the marriage of
Finarfin was not the only marriage of its type (Vanya and Noldo). (See
my paper on the subject in the Valar Guild's Encyclopedia :})
VardaValar1: We know Amroth, a Sinda, is mentioned as having golden
hair, just as he's dying in the ocean.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Glorfindel was originally intended to be written as a
Sinda, so he caused all sorts of problems. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Menelvagor : )
VardaValar1: Scholars like Eonwe help JRRT with justifying how
Glorfindel could have golden hair. : )
VardaValar1: Perhaps the only Vanyar crossings that were considered
worth mentioning were in the royal lines?
VardaValar1: That could help explain why Glorfindel is not in the list
of royals.
Eonwe Valar: That's what I figure. Glorfindel is not important to the
story until we get to GOndolin.
VardaValar1: Ok what other physical differences do we have?
Menelvagor Valar: Tolkien discussion already?
VardaValar1: We're an hour into the meeting, Menel : )
Menelvagor Valar: exactly.
VardaValar1: Hey, we're getting better!
Menelvagor Valar: I have a very good reason for being late though.
ArPharazonV: girlfriend?
Eonwe Valar: We're discussing physical characteristics of Elves.
Menelvagor Valar: I have spent the better part of the day on demonstrating various board games on a games
convention in the northern Netherlands.
Menelvagor Valar: they are very much better to stomach in Black
Mageweave than Dwarves, that is for sure *grin*
Eonwe Valar: Nothing more on the Tolkien topic?
VardaValar1: Congratulations, Menel : )
VardaValar1: Sounds like quite a time
VardaValar1: You know me, Eonwe. I could rattle all night
VardaValar1: But you and I already know what we think . :-)
top
VardaValar1: After-meeting
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Would you guys like to choose up games now?
VardaValar1: I am going to try to kick someone off the comp to play
that which may not be named.
VardaValar1: If any of you would like to join me there, that would be
delightful. : )
Eonwe Valar: Battle for Middle-Earth? :}
VardaValar1: We can mention that one, but close enough. ;-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe, do you play BfMe 1 or 2?
VardaValar1: I think everyone else left, heh
Eonwe Valar: I would've said the GBA version of the LotR: Fellowship of
the Ring Game (The only game I've reviewed that gets a 1 out of 10) but
that's not for the computer :}
FinduilasV: well I get rthe missing ten k for Findu ;-)
VardaValar1: : )
Eonwe Valar: I own them, and do on ocassion should the mood catch me
right and I have time.
FinduilasV: I got my druid to 24
Star of Phaet: I'm kind of here
ArPharazonV: kinda here too
VardaValar1: Now they can talk about WoW, we find out they are still
here. : )
FinduilasV: hehehe
VardaValar1: Have fun. I'll go game if possible.
Arwen V1: lol
VardaValar1: Namarie
FinduilasV: Namarie!
Arwen V1: Namarie
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
ArPharazonV: lo, Arwen's here too ;-)
FinduilasV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: we could also try warcraft 3, Fin, if you want
ArPharazonV: oh, right, she left
Eonwe Valar: Ok, guess I'll be on my way.
Eonwe Valar: Need to maximize my connection, and having this up won't
help :}
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: Namarie then
Eonwe Valar: Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun :}
Eonwe Valar: And Happy THanksgiving to those who will be celebrating it
Thursday :}
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
AuSteinM has left the room.
Arwen V1 has left the room.
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: hey Glorfindel
ArPharazonV: was a short meeting today, and many are gone already
Glorfindel VG: Ahh no wonder :-)
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: k, saving and sending
