Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Pilgrim's Bounty should be coming up soon.
Eonwe Valar: Good time to power-level your cooking skill.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: Eonwe, Varda, BIlbo, Glorfindel, Sauron, and Eowyn gave Bastion of Twilight a go last Sunday.
Eonwe Valar: Got 2 of the four bosses down, saw the final phase of th ethird before it was time to call it a night.
Eonwe Valar: Tonight we're heading into ICC Heroic, see how far we can get.

Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: I assume we're all still having fun with Riders of Rohan.

Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
ArPharazonV: Hmm, not really. Did a few flashgames, but otherwise was preoccupied in figuring out all the dailies and reputations in WoW, which apparently take up way too much time of your day.
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, you're not supposed to try and do all the dailies in a day apparently, hehe.
turinofVG: Though that may be intentional
Eonwe Valar: I finally got Exalted with the Golden Lotus this week :}
turinofVG: Also, gaming related, I actually will (eventually) do what I said and write a League of Legends review
ArPharazonV: Grats :-)
turinofVG: congrats
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: Can't wait to see it, Turin :}
turinofVG: Also, was gonna say I have more free time now so if anyone wants to get a sort of manned tour for it, I'll be around
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Anyone have a Tolkien topic they'd like to discuss?
ArPharazonV: I'll start with saying that Peter Jackson released a behind the scenes video for the airline commercial, I'll find you a link
ArPharazonV: So it's Hobbit-related :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: marginally Hobbit-related, but still
turinofVG: Wait, did anyone else just see that Pharazons AIM name just switched in and out?
turinofVG: or is that just me
ArPharazonV: I didn't see it.
turinofVG: Odd
ArPharazonV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVo8a2T2S_U
ArPharazonV: There ye go.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: I didn't notice any change in Phar's name.
ArPharazonV: Anyway, I did not mean for that to be the Tolkien-topic, so continue :-)
Eonwe Valar: Does anyone have a Tolkien topic? :}
Eonwe Valar: I guess that's a no :}
turinofVG: Sorry, brain is kind of off for the moment
ArPharazonV: can't think of anything either!
Eonwe Valar: OK, so how about a trivia question, and then we'll move to aftermeeting.
ArPharazonV: Guess we're missing some of our more creative members today.

Eonwe Valar: Who did Tuor and Voronwë see at the Pools of Ivrin?
turinofVG: Should I be allowed to answer this one?
ArPharazonV: I believe they ran into Turin on his way north to.. what's the place...
ArPharazonV: Hithlum?
Eonwe Valar: Hehe. Yes, you can answer :} :}
turinofVG: Dor-Lomin
ArPharazonV: Dor-Lomin works too!
Eonwe Valar: Who had evidently been to the Pools of Ivrin before them?
ArPharazonV: And I say "ran into" but that's wrong, I don't think Turin noticed them.
turinofVG: Some rather unsavory fellows if we are talking the last visitors.
turinofVG: Glaurung and his army
Eonwe Valar: I don't think Glaurung had an army with him at the time.
turinofVG: I guess we don
turinofVG: whoops
turinofVG: I guess we don't know when/where exactly the army that attacked Nargothrond came from. Unless it was that Glaurung did the whole deed himself, which would be quite impressive.
Eonwe Valar: An army went with Glaurung to the sacking of Nargothrond.
ArPharazonV: Yep, and they went to meet it in battle, I think; they might have stuck to their stronghold and defend it under siege if they knew it was just the dragon.
ArPharazonV: Or perhaps Turin would simply have waited in a ditch somewhere?
turinofVG: That makes we wonder kind of. How do elves fair in seiges? I'd imagine they can outlast most enemies if they have the strength to hold.
ArPharazonV: Interesting. Most elf success stories come from defending a forest.
ArPharazonV: No mention of them ever holding out a siege from a cave or otherwise forest-less location.
turinofVG: Hmm, they've only really lived in such a places a handful of times.
turinofVG: Also, while Menegroth was in a "cave", it was also in the middle of a forest.
ArPharazonV: Lothlorien: Forest. Mirkwood: Forest. Ossiriand: Forest. Doriath: Forest.
ArPharazonV: Gondolin: Not a forest. Was defeated.
ArPharazonV: Nargothrond: Not a forest. Also defeated.
Eonwe Valar: Actually, both Gondolin and Nargothrond could be considered successes, mostly. they both were eventually in enemy-controlled territory, or on the border thereof, and they would've been fine if not for Turin (Nargothrond) and Maeglin/Hurin (Gondolin).
ArPharazonV: True. They were well hidden, in which lay their primary strength.
ArPharazonV: Once they were actually under siege, however, they didn't last very long.
turinofVG: But then, that has generally been true of most places under seige that did not receive help from outside of it
Eonwe Valar: Well when an enemy like Morgoth can bring a large portion of his army to bear down against you, it's pretty hard to succeed.
turinofVG: With the exceptions being Mirkwood and Lorien (which had assistence beyond mere arms)
Eonwe Valar: Lothlorien did. I don't recall any such "assistance" for Mirkwood, though Thranduil's Halls were underground, like Menegroth.
ArPharazonV: It helps when you're surrounded by a load of trees and you're nimble enough to use such successful guerilla tactics.
ArPharazonV: Not to mention the girdle of Melian.
ArPharazonV: For some reason, Elves and trees got along quite well.
Eonwe Valar: If Sauron or Morgoth saw fit to employ a scorched earth policy, I think forested areas would find it just as hard to defend themselves as castles built out in the open.
turinofVG: Actually, I would say more Sindarin and other dark elves got along with trees. The Noldor didn't really even go in them much...
Eonwe Valar: In the First Age, The Laiquendi benefitted from living far south and being neighbors to Thingol.
Eonwe Valar: Not because Noldor had anything against trees. They preferred to build with stone. Many among the Teleri were wanderers and lived without a settled abode even far into the First Age.
turinofVG: So then, maybe the success/failure had less to do with environment and more to do with the curse of the Noldor?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: Could be.
Eonwe Valar: If it weren't Turin that brought the doom upon Nargothrond, it would've been someone else like the Sons of Fëanor.
Eonwe Valar: Nargothrond received messengers from Ulmo though, so they were warned just like Gondolin.
turinofVG: Yeah, what I was going to say before was that if it were not for Turin, it probably would of been more like Gondolin, dying to an eventual seige but as a group not so absolutely destroyed
ArPharazonV: If Turin had not been there, they might actually have heeded the warnings from Ulmo, though.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: OK, Let's bang the gavel here. Looks like we've said all we can say for now :}
Eonwe Valar: *Raises gavel into the air*
Eonwe Valar: *Brings gavel downl*

Eonwe Valar: *Bang* Aftermeeting:
Eonwe Valar: Fun chat :}
turinofVG: Unfortunatley I
turinofVG: keep hitting enter instead of '
turinofVG: lol
turinofVG: Unfortunately I'm kind of brain dead for a bit, I had a sort of qualifying exam earlier this week, the work for which kept me away these past few months-ish
turinofVG: So I'm back again, but only part of me I suppose :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back to the part of you back :}
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: We'll welcome back the rest when it catches up :}
ArPharazonV: I'm sure your brain will revive itself eventually :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya Menel :}
Eonwe Valar: You just missed themeeting :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya Menel!
Eonwe Valar: Oh, in late Membership News: Happy Birthday to Varda :}
Menelvagor Valar: Happy birthday!
turinofVG: Ah indeed, Happy Birthday!!
ArPharazonV: Happy Birthday, Varda!
Menelvagor Valar: Oh... something else :-)
Menelvagor Valar: It is quite late, but since I have been absent for quite some time, I completely missed it :-(
Menelvagor Valar: So a belated happy 15th to the Valar Guild ^^
Eonwe Valar: :}
turinofVG: Oh that's right, I too missed that, most unfortunate. Happy 15th anniversary to all!
Eonwe Valar: Happy 15th Anniversary to both of you :}
ArPharazonV: Same from me to you both!
Eonwe Valar: This past week was #13 for me, now that I think about it.
Menelvagor Valar: # 13 of what? :-)
Eonwe Valar: Year 13 in the Valar Guild :}
Menelvagor Valar: ah :-)
Eonwe Valar: 13th Anniversary of joining :}
Menelvagor Valar: congrats :-)
ArPharazonV: Congratulations!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Menelvagor Valar: 2,5 weeks until my 13th I see :-D
Eonwe Valar: Happy early anniversary :}
ArPharazonV: So you joined about 3 weeks apart, then? And congrats to you too :-)
turinofVG has left the room.
