This bow was a gift from Galadriel of Lothlorien, to
help the Fellowship's quest. It was a white warbow larger than the
Mirkwood bow, strung
with the hair of elf-ladies.
Legolas used it when he shot and killed
the fell beast of the
Winged Messenger (Nazgul) as it flew in the dark lit only by
stars, breaking up communication between Saruman and Sauron for a
while. It was used to kill many Orcs and evil Men. This was the bow
used from Lothlorien on,
including Helm's Deep, Paths of the Dead, Corsairs of Umbar, and
Pelennor Fields. It was also used to hunt food.
