Second of the sons of Finarfin (Quenya.
Artanáro).
Guardian at Tol Sirion, where he had to leave after
the attack of
Sauron.
He succeeded Finrod to the throne of Nargothrond after his brother’s
departure
with Beren. His leadership was undermined by the works of Celegorm and
Curufin, but he held the throne.
His daughter Finduilas was loved by
Gwindor, but she
fell in love with Turin Turambar. Orodreth afterwards left the
organization of the defence of Nargothrond largely to Turin. When the
warning of the coming
onslaught was sent by Cirdan, Orodreth choose to listen to Turin
instead
of heeding the words of the Sealord, Ulmo. By Turin's brave
foolhardiness
the armies of Nargothrond were then defeated in the field of Tumhalad,
where
Orodreth then was slain.
