This black-hearted Huorn lived on the bank of the River Withywindle on the eastern side of the Old Forest, not far from the house of Tom Bombadil. In T.A. 3018, it almost brought the quest to destroy Sauron's One Ring to a premature end when it seduced and then attempted to kill Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin when they became lost in the Old Forest. It swallowed Pippin entirely and was in the process of consuming Merry when Tom Bombadil came to their rescue.
