Elladan And Elrohir...
Are the sons of Elrond Half-Elven and Celebrian
, Daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. They
were born in the year 139 A.D., making them exactly 100 years older
then their sister Arwen. The two spent most of their lives in the
realms of Rivendell and Lorien where their kin dwelt.
However one event
in their lives changed the twins forever. As their mother was crossing
the
Misty Mountains her company was attacked and she taken prisoner. The
twins
were so filled with wrath that they went into the orcs' dwelling and
rescued their mother. Although not anymore in the hands of the orcs,
Celebrian had received a poisoned wound which could not be healed, so
she was forced to sail to the undying lands in the West. The twins
never forgot their mother's anguish at the hands of the orcs. For
virtually all the rest of the Third Age the brothers hunted out orcs,
repaying them for the cruelty they showed the elves' mother.
They also
spent a lot of time with the Dunedain Rangers, whom they were somewhat
related and allied to. They therefore set out with the rangers when
they went to join Aragorn during the War of the Ring. The twins were
part of the Grey Company (those who traveled with Aragorn through the
Paths of the Dead) and fought in the battle of the Pelennor Fields and
the battle in front of the Morannon.
After the war, the twins dwelt in
Rivendell for a long while and at one point were joined by Celeborn.
Although it is not said whether the twins chose mortality or to go to
the undying lands, I (Elrond-V) believe that they loved their mother so
much that they most likely
remained immortal to see her again.
Names: Although Robert Foster says that Elladan means Man-Elf
and
Elf-Horse I find that El means star such as Elrond and Elros so I
believe
they mean Horse of the Stars and Man of the Stars.

In the Grey Company, the brothers Elrond and
Elrohir appeared less somber than the Dunedain with whom they rode. The
pair looked so much alike that few could
tell them apart
as they were both dark-haired, grey-eyed, and elven fair of face. They
even
dressed alike in bright mail beneath cloaks of silver-grey.
