State of Valar Gaming 2020

Eonwë-(Valar)
October 4th, 2020

To all members of the Valar Guild, Hail and Salutations on the 23rd Anniversary of the Valar Guild! Congratulations on another year!

Prior to September 2020, per the Games Site roster, there were 163 members playing 30 games.

Of those 163 members:

  • 18 members played Lord of the Rings Online.
  • 8 Members played World of Warcraft.
  • 3 members played each of Starcraft 2, Guild Wars 2, Eve Online, and Heroes of the Storm.
  • 2 members played Diablo 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
  • 1 member played each of Apex Legends, Battletech, DotA 2, Flight Simulator X, Frozen Synapse 2, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming, Grim Dawn, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Minecraft, Rainbow 6: Siege, Rocket League, Spellstone, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Starcraft, Stellaris, Supreme Commander, Titan Quest, VATSIM, War of Omens, Warframe, and X-Plane 11.

Additionally:

  • 3 members said they could be found on Battle.net (though technically all modern Blizzard games have access).
  • 1 member said they could be found on Steam.
  • 1 member said they could be found on Kongregate.

On September 8th, 2020, the Games Site Mass-Update letter was sent out, requesting all members to send in their most up-to-date gaming information by September 30th. Only members listed as active on the Membership Page, having an e-mail listed there, were sent the GSMU e-mail. This year, that total was 51 (not counting myself). Of those, 5 were undeliverable (3 more than last year) and 18 responded by the deadline (again, not counting myself). To those who responded, thank you.

A further 14 members' gaming information was gleaned from Guild Branch activity in World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online (tying with last year). As with previous years, any activity within 90 days was counted as recent activity. The branches examined were on the US servers of Uldaman and Lothar for World of Warcraft, and the servers Landroval, Ithil and Anor for Lord of the Rings Online. My thanks to Varda for supplying the kin information for our Lord of the Rings Online branches.

Once all sources accessible were verified for recent activity, the Games Site roster was updated to reflect current gaming information.

As of October 4th, 2020, the Valar Guild Games Site now reflects a total of 163 members playing 22 games (down 8 games from last year).

Of those 163 members:

  • 1 member plays each of Black Desert Online, Civilization VI, Elite Dangerous, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming, Guild Wars, Hearthstone, Minecraft, Overwatch, Spellstone, Starcraft, Stellaris, War of Omens, and Warcraft 3: Reforged.
  • 2 members play each of Conan Exiles, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
  • 3 members play each of Eve Online and Heroes of the Storm, holding even with last year.
  • 4 members play Starcraft 2, bringing it up 1 over last year.

World of Warcraft remains our second most played game with 9 members, up by one from last year. 4 of those are playing WoW Classic: 2 of those on Europe servers and 2 of those on US servers.

Lord of the Rings Online remains our most played game with 22 members. That up four members over last year.

Additionally:

  • 4 members can be found on Battle.net, 3 on the Americas server and 1 on the Europe server.
  • 1 member can be found on Steam.
  • 1 member can be found on Kongregate.

This concludes the State of Valar Gaming for 2020. As always, please check over your gaming information and make sure it is correct. If you did not respond to the GSMU, you can still send in your gaming information. Remember that you can send in updates any time of year.

Happy 23rd Anniversary!
