Discord: Valar Guild/meeting_place
[1:31 PM]Varda: Dear European time zone folks: Eastern time (aka Valar time) has just hit the no-Daylight Savings time day. [1:32 PM]Varda: This message comes to you at 2:32 Eastern time. You might see the time next to this message in your time and be able to figure from there when it is 5 pm EST today. Good luck! [4:00 PM]Varda: Aiya! [4:00 PM]Varda: @Bounder @Guild-friend @Maia @Vala Yay! It's time for the Valar Guild meeting! Chat about gaming, Tolkien, and just say hi.

[4:01 PM]Varda: Membership: [4:01 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heya. [4:01 PM]Varda: The Eastern time that is also Valar time has changed from Daylight Savings to standard [4:01 PM]Varda: Aiya Eonwe 🙂 [4:02 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya All! Spring Forward, Fall Back. I fell back. [4:03 PM]Varda: Halloween has come and left us slightly larger, and made fun for our gaming. [4:03 PM]Varda: Aiya Sandalf! I hope you don't mean literally. : ) [4:03 PM]Sandalf13: 45 kids or so showed up last night for treats. [4:03 PM]Sandalf13: Nope....figuratively. [4:03 PM]Varda: That's a lot of candy! [4:04 PM]Sandalf13: I live in a "young," new neighborhood. Lots and lots of young families, only a few old fogies like me and my next-door neighbors. [4:04 PM]Varda: Someone has to give out the candy! [4:04 PM]Eönwë Valar: Get off my lawn [4:05 PM]Varda: : ) [4:05 PM]Varda: We didn't count, came by so fast.
[4:05 PM]Varda: In Web news: [4:06 PM]Varda: "Adventure Without a Pocket Handkerchief". Artwork by Ar-Pharazon-(V) on 3D Paint completed October 28, 2026. [4:07 PM]Varda: And who hasn't had the oops of leaving something behind on a trip? : )
[4:08 PM]Varda: Gaming: [4:08 PM]Varda: Pallando has some EVE Online news for us. [4:08 PM]Earendil: (Aiya, sorry I'm late 😬) [4:09 PM]Varda: Just hope you're not driving at the moment! Hi there. [4:09 PM]Pallando-Valar: Hello! [4:09 PM]Varda: Aiya Pallando : ) [4:09 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya Earendil! [4:09 PM]Earendil: Aiya everyone! [4:09 PM]Sandalf13: and Eonwe and Pallando, too.
[4:09 PM]Pallando-Valar: We've had the new expansion details shown for us, and they're a doozy. Fractured Skies In Focus" [4:10 PM]Cenedra: Aiya [4:10 PM]Varda: (Aiya Eowyn!) [4:10 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya Cenedra! [4:11 PM]Earendil: 😂 so many "aiyas", so little time! [4:11 PM]Varda: (hehe) [4:11 PM]Pallando-Valar: New military campaigns, seasonal events for FW culminating in a large setpiece fight, new navy ABCs, new rigs that effectively give set bonuses, a new hud, and balancing changes. [4:12 PM]Varda: New game! (oh not quite) [4:12 PM]Pallando-Valar: We'll see if they learned any lessons from the first campaign. [4:12 PM]Varda: crosses fingers [4:12 PM]Pallando-Valar: Vanguard, the Eve FPS, is now entering a period of permanently-available Alpha testing, for $15, only through the Eve launcher. It's supposed to launch into proper EA on Steam next year. [4:13 PM]Pallando-Valar: and just a little bit ago today the Alliance Tournament concluded. lots of very expensive ships died this weekend, and I won't spoiler the winner for anyone who wants to go watch. 🙂 [4:14 PM]Varda: (ow on expensive ships. And they are!) [4:14 PM]Arien Valar: Aiya all 🙂 Sun playing wizard again ... [4:14 PM]Pallando-Valar: oh yeah, multiple 300b+ ships went down. [4:14 PM]Varda: (Aiya Sunshine!) [4:14 PM]Pallando-Valar: like a lot of them [4:14 PM]Varda: Much gnashing of teeth. [4:15 PM]Pallando-Valar: Expansion launches next tuesday, so this Friday we should get full patch notes. [4:15 PM]Pallando-Valar: In player news, Goons have decided to come to lowsec and attack both freeports and structures belonging to some of the major lowsec groups. (SNUFF, BIGAB, SEDIT). [4:16 PM]Pallando-Valar: The Amamake Keepstar is reinf, so if you left something there... time to go get it [4:16 PM]Pallando-Valar: The narrative for this is evolving, but general theory is that Goons are mad about the Ansiblex nerfs and wanna teach lowseccers a lesson. We'll see if they succeed. [4:17 PM]Pallando-Valar: (they will not teach anyone anything, regardless of if the structures explode. I bet BlueMelon has new ones up by the new year) [4:18 PM]Pallando-Valar: I think that's it. [4:18 PM]Varda: Thank you, Pallando. That's a lot of news! [4:18 PM]Varda: Eonwe, would you like to go next? [4:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sure. [4:19 PM]Varda: All yours. [4:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: First, some late Membership news: this will be my last near-guaranteed Sunday meeting for a few months. As in, I'll be nearly guaranteed to not be here. [4:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: On with gaming.

[4:23 PM]Eönwë Valar: Check out this week's hotfixes.
[4:24 PM]Eönwë Valar: Diablo 2: Ladder Season 15 ends November 9th and Season 16 begins November 13th.
[4:24 PM]Eönwë Valar: Lord of the Rings Online: [4:25 PM]Eönwë Valar: Update 50: The Wolves of Mordor is live (and thus the expansion is too). [4:25 PM]Eönwë Valar: A blog on the Feared Beasts of Draugardh is out. [4:25 PM]Eönwë Valar: And that's it for gaming from me. [4:25 PM]Treebeard: Hello 🙂 [4:25 PM]Varda: Thank you, Eonwe : ) [4:25 PM]Varda: Aiya Fangorn! : ) [4:26 PM]Arien Valar: aiya Fangorn 🙂 [4:26 PM]Cenedra: I'll miss you at the meetings Eonwe! Good luck with everything you are doing. [4:26 PM]Eönwë Valar: Thanks. [4:26 PM]Earendil: Aiya Fangorn. [4:27 PM]Arien Valar: are you leaving the Valar Guild , eonwe :O? [4:28 PM]Sandalf13: Good luck with your busy schedule these next few months, Eonwe. You will be missed, as always. [4:29 PM]Eönwë Valar: Leaving the Guild? Hardly. Work schedule changed for the it-could-be-worse. [4:29 PM]Earendil: 🤣🤣🤣 [4:30 PM]Earendil: The it could be worse... [4:30 PM]Varda: Well put. : ) [4:30 PM]Arien Valar: ah well , . thats a bummer .. well good luck with it and hope to hear from you now and again in harbor at least 🙂 [4:30 PM]Cenedra: I played the WoW Forever beta and it was like WoW whenever I started playing way back in the day with this guild. My family will be playing it when it comes out in 3 days also. Mostly me and my husband. My son will still probably play Roblox the most. I also play StarCraft 2 and Diablo 4 if anyone in the guild needs someone else to play with sometime. [4:31 PM]Varda: Thank you, Eowyn! [4:32 PM]Sandalf13: I know that many of you do not like the Youtube stories that I find on the Internet, but a couple of really good programs showed up the last couple of weeks. Here are the references, if you want to check them out: [4:32 PM]Sandalf13: Where was the Fellowship during the Hobbit? [4:32 PM]Varda: If they refer to Tolkien or gaming, they are fine, especially in that section of the meeting. [4:32 PM]Sandalf13: Aragorn - The Lost 87 YEars [4:32 PM]Varda: Maybe you mean the AI? [4:33 PM]Sandalf13: Really good pix in the shows, and good narration. [4:33 PM]Cenedra: Thanks, Sandalf! [4:34 PM]Earendil: Okay, as a lover of essays thanks! thanks! [4:34 PM]Earendil: Video essays that is... [4:35 PM]Eönwë Valar: Tolkien didn't "hide" those 87 years, he just didn't give us a play-by-play of the entire experience, heh. [4:36 PM]Sandalf13: Very true...but still leaves some room for the imagination to roam, yes? [4:36 PM]Eönwë Valar: But attention-grabbing title is attention-grabbing,heh. [4:36 PM]Varda: Aye, the main books followed the hobbits. The other stuff was told obliquely or in the Appendix. [4:36 PM]Varda: True about getting the attention. Good titles are tough! [4:37 PM]Varda: JRRT wanted our imaginations to play inside his mythology, aye. : ) [4:38 PM]Earendil: I've been sidetracked by vehicle related irl quests, so I'm glad to pick up any additional clued to earlier draft stuff....still researching early history of trolls and such... [4:38 PM]Varda: Go for it. : )
[4:38 PM]Varda: StarCraft 2: [4:38 PM]Varda: Eowyn, Fangorn, Faramir, Varda this past week.
[4:39 PM]Varda: more LotRO: [4:39 PM]Varda: Eonwe told the biggest part. : ) [4:39 PM]Varda: Through Nov 5 Code: Gold dye x5Coupon Code: SMAUGSHOARD [4:39 PM]Varda: Create your own discount runs to Nov 5: [4:40 PM]Varda: A few comments on Update 50: The Wolves of Mordor: [4:40 PM]Varda: Well made new region with updated style of coding, no lag for me or Fangorn (we have fairly new computers). It feels larger than the map because it is so mountainous. (We have gone from the Umbar beaches to mountains!) [4:40 PM]Varda: Start: Go to (South Bree has a direct connection) at Anorien's Minas Tirith (midsummer). Near the stable, talk to Ranger Orthonn (who is thirsty). [4:40 PM]Varda: Dhol Teg is almost a maze, so be sure to check the main map for the thin wiggly roads that go under the larger ones. [4:41 PM]Varda: Check out the new skills. You should get a letter to put in your bags that explains the system. [4:41 PM]Varda: Set the skills from the same place as traits but on the bottom tier. [4:41 PM]Varda: Tip (I learned while gaming): swap them when one is on cool down for the next encounter. Put the skill on your bars same as other skills. [4:41 PM]Varda: Be sure to check your overload bag in case the barter item for Survival skills went there. Once in your inventory bags, it goes immediately to the trait list not taking up any more room. This might change in the future, but is the way it is for now. [4:41 PM]Varda: Even if your character is low level, some goodies for that update will come to you, useful as filler for your storage until you reach the area at which time you will most likely be glad of them. [4:41 PM]Varda: (some lowbie players trashed them thinking they were junk) [4:42 PM]Varda: Kinmates that came into our LotRO branches this past week
Peregrin branch:
Glamdring branch:
Meriadoc EU branch:
Angmar branch Veil of the Nine:
Mordor branch EU Veil of the Nine
[4:44 PM]Varda: Does anyone have a topic they'd like to bring up? [4:44 PM]Varda: We missed out on Leod's and he doesn't seem to be present today.
[4:45 PM]Arien Valar: just an off topic sort of tolkien question ... uhm [4:46 PM]Arien Valar: I heard something about a new LORD of the ring / Hobbit film from Pj . Aragorns Hunt for gollum . Is that real? [4:47 PM]Eönwë Valar: I don't have the details, but so far as I know it's legit. [4:47 PM]Varda: It appears to be so, Arien. [4:47 PM]Eönwë Valar: If it helps: The Hunt for Gollum [4:48 PM]Earendil: I did read a short blurb about a new actor replacing Vigo Mortensen. [4:48 PM]Varda: hah, I was about to type in that url too. Eonwe the Speedy! [4:49 PM]Varda: Aragorn is Jamie Dornan. [4:49 PM]Sandalf13: Get rid of the beard, James! [4:49 PM]Sandalf13: Despite what Peter Jackson says! [4:49 PM]Earendil: Yeah, not-Vigo, that's him. [4:50 PM]Eönwë Valar: I would take any LotR adaptation with somewhere between a grain and a silo of salt. [4:50 PM]Earendil: Like those not-Bond actors, I'm sure I'll enjoy him just...it's not the man himself so to speak. [4:50 PM]Varda: To be book correct, no beard. But to attempt to look like Viggo's Aragorn, I can see it. Still, he's supposed to be younger here. [4:51 PM]Sandalf13: Time-wise, though, probably better to go with a younger actor. After all, the search for Gollum does take place before the Fellowship. [4:51 PM]Arien Valar: I read he won t try to outplay Viggo .. it ll be his take on the Character which will be interesting but yes Eonwe , I gree#] [4:51 PM]Eönwë Valar: From age 20 onwards, Numenoreans are supposed to age at roughly 3/5 the pace of other Men. [4:52 PM]Sandalf13: True...but the descendants of Luthien - both Elf and Man - were incapable of growing beards. So says the Master. [4:53 PM]Varda: Cirdan had a beard. : ) [4:53 PM]Earendil: So approximately what, a 60 year or so gap to his kingship age? [4:53 PM]Sandalf13: Tolkien himself noted that that was unusual...very unusual for an Elf. [4:53 PM]Varda: Aye, maybe due to age. [4:54 PM]Arien Valar: Aragorn was around .. what 90 ish or a bit above at the time of the fellowship? [4:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: Nature of Middle-Earth has a calculation of his physical age vs chronological age in comparison to Arwen's, but I can't go digging for it right now., [4:54 PM]Sandalf13: 87 [4:55 PM]Arien Valar: so he d be around his midfourties at the time of the hunt? [4:55 PM]Eönwë Valar: Needless to say Tolkien was doing his homework to make sure they fit into the "norm" of Elvish customs as he wrote them (even if they didn't make it to publishing). [4:56 PM]Earendil: Yeah so almost 70 years after 20, 3/5ths, carry the math class headache....he should look like a very healthy rugged 50ish in the company with frodo...early 40ish during the hunt? [4:56 PM]Sandalf13: Sounds about right! [4:56 PM]Earendil: Possibly more healthy because you know....he's him. [4:57 PM]Sandalf13: Tolkien states that Aragorn had a hair "flecked with gray," but only "flecked"...most of his hair was still his original color. Not bad for a 87 year old. My hair (what remains of it_) turned white in my late 60s. [4:58 PM]Sandalf13: Numenoreans also healed much faster than ordinary Men. [4:58 PM]Varda: (Andy Serkis is directing the movie.) [4:58 PM]Eönwë Valar: From memory, Tolkien did the numbers roughly comparable to a 100-year life expectancy, with a short "deterioration period." [4:59 PM]Earendil: Yeah, I'm 42 and my beard is more white than either actor to play the king of gondor. I guess I got surprise Russian on my 23 and me, not numenorean. [4:59 PM]Sandalf13: I believe that was for the ordinary Numenorean...I think that those of the royal line had a longer life expectancy than other Numenoreans. [5:01 PM]Eönwë Valar: Let me explain a little better, because it's alot of numbers and calculations and I'm not going to quote them all. The numbers in NoME (for Elves and Numenoreans) work with an assumed physical "life" of approx 100 years, then break down the aging of each chronologically compared to that. [5:02 PM]Earendil: A recent check shows kinda both, if I remember. Some early numenoreans were basically d&d elves, dwarf life plus extra years, and those who were gradually diminished in that heritage slowly reaching roughly the vitality we see in in aragorn. [5:02 PM]Varda: (not to be confused with the fan film: The Hunt for Gollum) [5:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: So i.e. for Elves, their procreational capacity for both men and women work out to extend to about the age of 76 years of "physical life", which would be thousands of years chronologically. [5:04 PM]Sandalf13: Gilraen died at age 100, and in her last (sad) visit with Aragorn, she told him that she was aged as one of the "lesser men." [@Eonwe [5:04 PM]Earendil: Yeah that is a surprisingly load bearing "approximately" isn't it? Because shift a number some numenoreans could've reached roughly patriarch in the Bible lifespan. [5:04 PM]Treebeard: Nice to hear that Aragorn will have a life after LOTRO movies. Maybe Viggo will hop in for a cameo. [5:04 PM]Earendil: FROM YOUR KEYBOARD TO GODS DM... [5:05 PM]Treebeard: Nice to see all of you too. Namarie... time for SC2 🙂 [5:05 PM]Earendil: Namarie! [5:05 PM]Sandalf13: Namarie, Treebeard! Enjoy SC2! [5:05 PM]Cenedra: Namarie, playing SC2 with Treebeard! [5:05 PM]Arien Valar: Namarie , fangorn! [5:05 PM]Varda: Namarie Fangorn! [@Cenedra [5:05 PM]Earendil: Namarie! [5:05 PM]Varda: Namarie Eowyn! [5:05 PM]Sandalf13: My greatest hope is to one day see an adaptation of Estel growing up in Imladris. It would be wonderful to see someone's take on what that would have been like! [5:06 PM]Sandalf13: Namarie, Eowyn! [@Sandalf [5:06 PM]Earendil: Awesome idea. [5:06 PM]Varda: Tons of fan-fic for Estel, at least. [5:06 PM]Eönwë Valar: Elros Tar Minyatur chose to lay down his life at about 510 (if memory serves), and I don't recall anyone living beyond that. Based on NoME, he might've had another 10-20 years, but not much more than that. [5:06 PM]Arien Valar: Namarie eowyn [5:06 PM]Varda: We are at the hour plus 6 minutes. [5:07 PM]Varda: the hammerpad rigged up a gong and stood sideways [5:07 PM]Varda: ka-bonnnng! [5:07 PM]Varda: the gavel keeps vibrating for a few minutes
[5:07 PM]Varda: After-meeting! [5:07 PM]Varda: Free chat, even about gaming and Tolkien! [5:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: I'll also note that both Elves and Numenoreans (the kings at least) tended to pass on their positions of authority to their children when they'd come to adulthood and the parents still had some life to enjoy. [5:10 PM]Eönwë Valar: It wasn't until the Shadow fell on Numenor that they started clinging to life and the kingship to the very end. [5:10 PM]Earendil: Yep, which is literally on par with the descendants of Adam called by some the patriarchs who lived hundreds of years in the biblical record. I've often wondered if the scholarly debate about those ages influenced the agelessness of elves in the LOTR Canon personaly. [5:10 PM]Varda: It would be cool to retire and watch the kids handling things. And be there if the kid wants a suggestion or pat on the back. [5:12 PM]Varda: Sometimes horrible to see, but that's the breaks. : ) [5:12 PM]Eönwë Valar: The biblical numbers reach into the 900s. 500 is ~half as much :} [5:12 PM]Varda: And then were cut to 120 to lower the amount of sin. [5:12 PM]Sandalf13: That is correct. Biblical ages diminished over time. [5:13 PM]Varda: I may sneak back to gaming. ; ) [5:13 PM]Sandalf13: The Psalms say that man can expect 60 years, 70 if they are vigorous. [5:13 PM]Sandalf13: 80 is out of the Psalmists' rule book. [5:13 PM]Varda: hmm, my birthday this month is 73... [5:13 PM]Sandalf13: You are indeed vigorous, Varda! [5:14 PM]Varda: And Sandalf must be super-vigorous. : ) [5:15 PM]Sandalf13: Just turned 76....climbed Grays Peak this summer...14,100 feet. [5:15 PM]Earendil: Yes, with a clear factor of ten between the ages listed (as pretenaturally long) and average modern humans. Approximately anyway, like did he live to 900 or 90? I've even heard the theory it was a lunar calender that those ages were counted by, though that doesn't track with reports of children in one's 20's or so. [5:16 PM]Arien Valar: i think nowadays the oldest person is 120 or something like that? [5:17 PM]Varda: "The oldest person in recorded history whose age has been independently verified is Jeanne Calment of France, who lived to be 122 years and 164 days old (1875–1997)." [5:18 PM]Sandalf13: Oooooops! Getting grayer outside, I need to get home to get ready for the upcoming week. Hope all of you enjoy a fantastic week! Will check in later, maybe Ar will arrive. [5:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: 120 is from Genesis, right before the Flood. [5:18 PM]Varda: List of the verified oldest people [5:18 PM]Varda: Namarie Sandalf! [5:18 PM]Earendil: It was Enoch and lamech who lived shorter, had to check. Because Enoch never endured death, he was removed "to the uttermost west" by god, and Lamech....probably had cholesterol? [5:19 PM]Varda: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/oldest-person [5:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Time for me to be off as well. [5:19 PM]Varda: Namarie Eonwe! [5:19 PM]Earendil: 360 or so, Enoch upgraded to elsewhere. 500 plus for lammy. I'm off to. Namarie everyone. [5:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Take care all, good night, sleep well, have fun, and see you in the chat during the week. [5:20 PM]Arien Valar: Namarie eonwe and hope to hear from you now and again despite everything [5:21 PM]Arien Valar: time for me to go to bed as well .. Namarie all ! [10:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya, reading up! [@Earendil [10:29 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: To Valinor? 😄 [10:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If they do make a younger movie about Estel, I'd like to see Viggo as Arathorn.
[November 2, 2026 [7:05 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming report: [7:06 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, a new casual upgrade game, Night Lake. [7:07 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: A fishing game where you go out in your boat, catch fish, sell fish, and buy upgrades for your fishing gear, as well as new lures etc. [7:09 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: You also get experience, with quests to catch specific fish for xp boosts, to unlock some new features. [7:09 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: There's also new locations to go to, and finally bigger monsters and legends to catch under special circumstances. [7:09 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Collect em all! [7:11 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: [Level 35 on the reward track now! More gold, golden cards, and a random legendary card. [7:12 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Event quest is well on schedule, and got 500 wins with the demon hunter along the way, earning a golden Kayn Sunfury and Tichondrius. [7:16 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In part 3 of the Journey, we have been found by a K'thir priest, who has apparently heard about our previous exploits and wants to recruit us into a black empire priesthood. This was followed by gaining the blessings of each of the 4 Old Gods, before starting our initiation into the priesthood. The quest for power continues! [7:17 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And finally, the brawl for this week is Rise of the Zombeasts! 2 death knight Rexxars facing each other, and stitching together powerful beasts. Lower starting health and higher starting mana generally makes these matches quick, which is good, because one of the journey quests was to win games by turn 8 🙂 [7:45 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble: [No new upgrades, but one new legendary core. [7:45 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Completed all the challenges for Hallow's End, and with a few more extra daily offers bought, enough tickets to complete the track and grab the 3 free rewards at the end. [7:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Said legendary core, leaving 51 to go, some gold, and a new cosmetic tower! Basic tower is a pumpkin over a cauldron, which is pretty neat, but I especially like the AoE version featured in pvp and certain arcane surges. It looks like a bat cannon 🙂 [7:48 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The november reward track has started as well, and I'm working on the new pvp season track. Time for some more free rewards again! [7:48 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW: [7:49 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: More raiding, as we are working on the twin snakes in the Abyss. [7:49 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Got a mythic-track neckpiece from the vault, finally replacing my last season 1 piece and outgrowing the use for veteran crests. [7:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Weekly quest is timewalks, which are going pretty fast again 🙂 [7:51 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And finally Hallow's End! Have fought the horseman every day, but no luck for the new mount. I did get a bunch of treats from him though, using it to buy a bunch of decor in the Neighbourhood. Not enough for everything, but there's always next year 🙂 [7:51 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Got all the new Midnight candy buckets as well. [7:53 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And for WoW: Forever, reserved my skyborne early, as seen in the screenshots channel. Few more days until I can log in on him, as I'm sure my WoW group will make a guild there as well 🙂 [7:54 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my report for the week! [7:55 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie 🙂 [4:17 PM]Varda: Thank you, Phar. 🙂
