[September 20, 2025
[10:31 PM]Eönwë Valar: Arg, I can't stand how much this most recent world boss bugs out and resets. (Note: refers to WoW gaming.)
[11:22 PM]Eönwë Valar: Very annoying to die by something I'd be able to dodge if they ever put the proper markers on the ground like they're supposed to.
[September 21, 2025

[4:23 PM]Varda: LotRO is still keeping ahead of SC 2 at least on Peregrin server. : )
[4:23 PM]Varda: Any other membership or gaming news anyone would like to pass along?
[4:24 PM]Arien Valar: Na, just I am happy to be back gaming after a week s break
[4:24 PM]Varda: Very glad to see you return!
[4:26 PM]Arien Valar: :)
[4:25 PM]Arien Valar: carry on :)
[4:26 PM]Varda: Then on to...
[4:26 PM]Varda: Tolkien!
[4:26 PM]Varda: September 22 is the double birthday of Bilbo and Frodo.
[4:26 PM]Varda: It is often called "Hobbit Day". : )
[4:26 PM]Arien Valar: :)
[4:26 PM]Varda: Bilbo was born Sept 22 in the year 2890 of the Third Age, while Frodo was born 78 years later in 2968.
[4:27 PM]Varda: For a topic:
[4:27 PM]Varda: What was the significance of the double birthday to the story of the Lord of the Rings?
[4:27 PM]Varda: Maybe more than one?
[4:28 PM]Arien Valar: Well , Bilbo got Frodo to move to him so that he could make him his heir
[4:28 PM]Varda: True!
[4:29 PM]Arien Valar: allthough he said to him that it was more practical to celebrate the birthdays together
[4:29 PM]Varda: hahaha aye
[4:29 PM]Varda: Frodo was his nephew and orphaned.
[4:31 PM]Arien Valar: next of kin and probably close to his father as well or was he the brother of his mother i am not sure
[4:31 PM]Varda: Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck.
[4:32 PM]Arien Valar: yeah just remembered .. slow mind
[4:33 PM]Varda: Merry Brandybuck is therefore Frodo's cousin.
[4:33 PM]Arien Valar: i don t know whether bilbo had in mind to give the ring to frodo too but it certainly worked out that way and so it gave the premises for frodo s trip to rivendell and eventually to Mordor
[4:36 PM]Varda: I'm checking the book geneology for Brandybuck
[4:37 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya, reading up
[4:37 PM]Varda: Gorbadoc Brandybuck + Mirabella Took
[4:37 PM]Arien Valar: Pippin would be a cousin in rthe second degree
[4:37 PM]Varda: Their son Rorimac was ancestor to Meriadoc.
[4:38 PM]Arien Valar: a few times removed
[4:38 PM]Varda: One of Gorbadoc's daughters was Primula.
[4:38 PM]Arien Valar: twice removed then ^^
[4:39 PM]Varda: Under "Took of Great Smials" we see what Arien said. : )
[4:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: "Pete battles" makes for an interesting mental image.
[4:39 PM]Varda: Aiya Phar : )
[4:40 PM]Varda: Gerontius "The Old Took" + Adamanta Chubb
[4:41 PM]Varda: That is where the common line is for Peregin, Meriadoc, and Bilbo, and Frodo.
[4:42 PM]Arien Valar: aye so Old Gorbadoc is quite significant for the story of the ring
[4:42 PM]Varda: Aye!
[4:42 PM]Varda: Might be why he had a long life. : )
[4:42 PM]Varda: When Bilbo decided to leave the Shire to go to Rivendell, he left Frodo his inheritance. This was intended to make it easier for Bilbo to give up the One Ring.
[4:42 PM]Varda: Fellowship of the Ring, "A Long-expected Party"
[4:42 PM]Varda: Quote:
[Then he (Bilbo) shrugged his shoulders, and smiled rather ruefully. "After all that's what this party business was all about, really: to give away lots of birthday presents, and somehow make it easier to give it (ring) away at the same time. It hasn't made it any easier in the end, but it would be a pity to waste all my preparations. It would quite spoil the joke."
["Indeed it would take away the only point I ever saw in the affair," said Gandalf.
[4:43 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: It was a good try, but he still needed a little help to actually get the Ring out of his possession.
[4:43 PM]Varda: "Very well," said Bilbo, "it goes to Frodo with all the rest."
[4:43 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also, Gandalf can really be a bit of a buzzkill sometimes with comments like that.
[4:43 PM]Varda: End Quote.
[4:44 PM]Varda: He really can! Aragorn does a lot of buzzkill too. : )
[4:44 PM]Arien Valar: you mean to get free from the ring's control or try to get control over Bilbo
[4:44 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: To be free of his "ownership" of the Ring
[4:44 PM]Varda: Aye, Phar.
[4:44 PM]Varda: The Ring was owning Bilbo.
[4:45 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I meant that he had to get rid of his own claim of the Ring, I suppose.
[4:45 PM]Varda: Aye
[4:45 PM]Varda: The claim passed.
[4:45 PM]Varda: Frodo's inheriting the One Ring meant that he came by in an honest fashion. He did not kill for it like Gollum, nor steal it like Bilbo, so it had less hold over him.
[4:46 PM]Varda: Also, he had a clear line of ownership.
[4:46 PM]Arien Valar: might have been that was what made it possible for frodo to resist as long as he did
[4:46 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Gandalf certainly implied as much.
[4:46 PM]Varda: It certainly contributed, aye.
[4:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Or I'm remembering not well
[4:47 PM]Varda: Oh you're right. : )
[4:47 PM]Varda: Bilbo was "meant" to have the Ring. This helped Frodo when the time came.
[4:47 PM]Varda: And moved it to the place it needed to be, to be discovered by Gandalf.
[4:48 PM]Varda: Frodo was young and strong enough to handle it at the time needed, and was considered the best of the Hobbits by Gandalf.
[4:49 PM]Varda: There's a quote to that effect somewhere or other, heh.
[4:50 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Sam also handled it quite well for a time, though it was swift to move to claim him in Mordor. And no doubt him still seeing it as Frodo's possession and his duty to Frodo helped him resist it. If he had been the main Ringbearer of the quest, he would not have handled it so easily.
[4:50 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Let's just say Sam played his role well
[4:50 PM]Varda: Aye, Phar.
[4:51 PM]Arien Valar: i have to do without books as the main tolkien works aka LotR , Hobbit, silmarillion and that of the middlearth history volumes such as i have are lost in a maze of boxes still :
[4:51 PM]Varda: Alongside the Ark, no doubt. : )
[4:51 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If Arien could get someone to help her it'd be the Fellowship of Returning the Lord of the Rings from the Two Towers of boxes.
[4:52 PM]Varda: (Indiana Jones reference.)
[4:52 PM]Varda: hehehe
[4:52 PM]Arien Valar: heheehe
[4:52 PM]Varda: That was pretty much all I had for today.
[4:53 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: There's one more important thing about the shared birthday.
[4:53 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: It gave Bilbo the excuse to invite a gross of hobbits to the main speech.
[4:54 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If he'd had to wait to reach 144 years himself, it'd be quite a bit longer, and a bit suspicious
[4:54 PM]Varda: ugh, fell out of Discord again for a short bit. Back.
[4:55 PM]Varda: hahaha aye! A gross of hobbits. : )
[4:55 PM]Arien Valar: That birthday party was a masterpiece of coordination and organisation i have to say
[4:55 PM]Varda: Agreed.
[4:55 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And you know Bilbo had a good bit of fun coordinating and organizing it
[4:55 PM]Varda: And a thing not shown in the movies, was that Bilbo had help from Dwarves to move his things.
[4:56 PM]Varda: He may have had some help with the mass of logistics.
[4:56 PM]Arien Valar: ah that would have been nice indeed
[4:56 PM]Varda: Arien is now calling on the dwarves...
[4:56 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Loggy-sticks, as Pratchett called it in one of his earlier books.
[4:57 PM]Varda: heh. Love Terry Pratchett's stuff.
[4:57 PM]Arien Valar: well we had a couple of movers in a van, which were geat as well
[4:57 PM]Varda: Very good!
[4:57 PM]Arien Valar: great even
[4:57 PM]Arien Valar: nice and appropriate topic for today , star lady
[4:58 PM]Varda: Glad you enjoyed it. : )
[4:58 PM]Varda: gavel hops over to the hammerpad and politely taps it
[4:58 PM]Varda: tapppp!
[4:58 PM]Varda: After-meeting!
[4:58 PM]Arien Valar: I did and now i ll enjoy bed ........ steels gavel and packs it under the duvet
[4:59 PM]Varda: hehe the gavel snuggles up and goes to sleep
[4:59 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Enjoy!
[4:59 PM]Arien Valar: i had an early start today so i will
[4:59 PM]Varda: It remembers you from previous times you had the gavel!
[4:59 PM]Varda: Rest well. : )
[5:00 PM]Arien Valar: pats gavel Namarie '!
[5:00 PM]Varda: Namarie!
[5:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!
[5:00 PM]Varda: Sandalf hopes to be here later. He's on the road.
[5:01 PM]Varda: I hope to be back. : )
[5:07 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And now, time to feed...
[7:58 PM]Sandalf13: I am home at last...in time for Ar's report, I hope....if he is still up for presenting it!
[September 22, 2025
[2:31 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I am now, since I'm currently in the habit of getting some sleep before launching into the report
[2:31 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming report:
[2:31 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, we actually have a game I didn't have the badge for yet, this week
[2:33 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: "Rogue Quest - Episode 2" is a short point and click adventure game, where you play Jheed, a young adventurer trying to find his first treasure, in the tower of the Weeping Queen.
[2:34 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Solve puzzles, help the Queen and face the culprit behind her curse, to get a fancy treasure as reward!
[3:37 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming:
[3:38 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone:
[Level 99 now, a smidge away from 100. Guess I was close in my guess of a week to go
[3:40 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Completed the quest event for the mini-set, with a quest to spend 1000 mana, though with the usual expansion card boosts. Got enough daily quests done as well to hit the full 4000 experience, and get the new coin, as well as the Rebirth Celebration card back earlier in the week.
[3:40 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Bit curious what excuse they'll come up with if they want to start another quest event next week
[3:41 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: A bit short on gold for a new skin as well, should be easy enough next week.
[3:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Brawl is A Temporus Shift, with every turn (except the first turn, so it goes into an alternating pattern) doubling up for an extra turn.
[3:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Wasn't sure what I'd used here in the past, so I just threw together a bit of a spell deck, then got crushed by an enemy murloc deck, thought "Oh, yes, that was it" and created a murloc deck of my own
[3:44 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble:
[No new collection level. Did get one extra level on the eclipse spell after giving it an xp boost in the grid, now putting it on the last 200k xp track.
[3:44 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Other than that, more xp gradually spread around.
[3:46 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Almost done with pvp for this season, only a few more rewards on the track to go.
[3:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Continued the heroic sigil campaign as well, completing Tirion Fordring with the remaining families, and getting my 148th sigil. Also got Ramstein the Gorger done with alliance after a few attempts. Standard armies still seem to be working for now
[3:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Diablo 4:
[Went into it a bit, but mostly as a bit of preparation. Now that I've basically given up on seasons, I figured that I can just resume my old plans of doing the older side quests and other renown gatherings before continuing into the expansion's new zone and story. Should be shorter activities and not require longer sittings. So I did some digging and set my eye on 3 side quests in the first zone I hadn't done yet, because they were added in a later season. So those'll be my first goal.
[3:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
[3:52 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: More raiding, clearing normal again. My ilevel is definitely getting better, and I have my 4-piece bonus now too, though that might have been the previous week as well
[3:54 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Two weekly quests: pet battles, which I've completed, and 4 mythic dungeons. I'm mostly going Halls of Atonement for this season when this weekly comes up, the old Revendreth dungeon. I'm familiar enough with it, and it's relatively short: other than hunting down a few statues and releasing anima for the first boss, there is relatively little trash fighting before each boss.
[3:56 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And finally, delves! Continuing in tier 11, which is indeed feeling easier now. I'll still take the shortcut portals, but only after I've found the flickergate in each delve, since I want those 100 for the achievement
[3:56 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Brann's gotten from from level 91 to 95 now, so should be maxed within 2 weeks. And I got rank 5 on the Delver's Journey, though there's no cosmetic tied to rank 5.
[3:59 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: As busy as WoW keeps me, I am looking forward to the Legion Remix, though, with my 2 pre-planned characters. First one will be a tauren warrior, kinda inspired by the Diablo 2 cow level, but will also help unlock the totem in whatever far future he/she will do the heritage quest.
[3:59 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But that's still a few weeks away!
[3:59 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my report for the week!
[3:59 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie
[9:24 AM]Sandalf13: Thank, Ar!
[9:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: Ok, tried the Nexis Princess. I've decided I don't like the 6 card monte I'm supposed to play to survive.
[9:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Having raid practice helps, I guess, since a lot of her abilities are similar to her raid presence. But then I've only fought her delve spawn version.
[9:26 PM]Eönwë Valar: I can manage the other stuff, and usually I'm pretty good at following the "red card", but even when I think I've got her I apparently don't, and there's no room for a mistake.
[9:35 PM]Eönwë Valar: Ironically like an actual game of 3-card monte, heh.
[9:42 PM]Eönwë Valar: Either way., I'm confident I won't beat her before I start binging on Legion Remix.
[9:43 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Much more important
[9:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: I won't even be close to a full set of Hero gear by then.
[9:45 PM]Eönwë Valar: Both Auros and Ann need approx. 6 more pieces of hero gear, and once Legion Remix starts I'll be less inclined to spend my precious gaming time trying to get it, let alone upgrade what I have two more times.
[@Ar-Pharazon-V
[Much more important
[9:47 PM]Eönwë Valar: And aye :}
[9:56 PM]Eönwë Valar: I really wanted my Night Elf Paladin for Legion Remix (with Void Elf being second place) but what can I do, heh.
[10:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'm starting with tauren warrior... a concept so basic I can't believe I've not had one before.
[10:01 PM]Eönwë Valar: hehe
[10:02 PM]Eönwë Valar: Gonna end up going in with human and giving her pointy ears. Not a whole lot of good hair styles for human women, sadly.
[10:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: 34 hair styles and I like pretty much none of them, lol.
[10:03 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Suggest some to Blizzard
[10:04 PM]Eönwë Valar: They're got them, just on other races :} Human women needs some braids at least. Not sure how that's not a thing.
[10:04 PM]Eönwë Valar: And some of the other races do long hair better.
[10:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, namarie!
[10:11 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sleep well.
[September 23, 2025
[6:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Hey, Brefest just started.
[7:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Yep, and all the new cosmetics are 3200 tokens. Good luck
[7:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well unless I start getting tokens in barrelfuls, I'm going to write this event off if that's the case.
[7:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: No one says you have to get em all in one year!
[7:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: 3200 is too much for me.,
[7:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But there's plenty of sources. I'm sending 5 characters in for the dailies, should be enough over 2 weeks.
[7:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Unless you mean total.
[7:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: For all.
[7:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Total, yes.
[7:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Sorry
[7:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Ok, then we'll see, heh.
[7:19 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And there's more mogs to be gotten from an hourly event.
[7:19 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But tha't smore random.
[7:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: On the upside, looks like all the artifact skins sans the mage tower will be available in Legion Remix. It's a shame because I might've pushed a Rogue through for Fencer's Reach (Best looking skin for Dreadblades IMO). Thunderfury hidden appearance is ok, but I don't know if I can enough to push through for that.
[7:20 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Doesn't that mean all of those are still available in retail too?
[7:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: My understanding was the hidden ones weren't.
[7:24 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: A bit of googling seems to indicate they are still available in retail, just not the mage tower ones.
[7:24 PM]Eönwë Valar: Hmm
[7:27 PM]Eönwë Valar: Yep, requirements for the Green Flame Ashbringer have been adjusted with the mythic changes. Now just a Mythic +5. Hopefully that means that Legion Remix Mythics will count.
[7:28 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: They should!
[7:28 PM]Eönwë Valar: It sounds like they will, but there's always that lingering bit of doubt, heh.
[7:29 PM]Eönwë Valar: And I still need to complete Glory of the Legion Hero for the Yellow Flame Ashbringer.
[7:29 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: What is that? Dungeons or raids?
[7:29 PM]Eönwë Valar: Dungeons.
[7:29 PM]Eönwë Valar: I have a bunch of miscellaneous achievements I haven't completed for it.
[7:30 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, those should definitely be doable in remix
[7:30 PM]Eönwë Valar: Other than those two, the only other two I'm missing are PvP related: 1 for 10 rated bgs and 1 for getting Honor Lvl 80.
[7:31 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I remember going for the first one. Very annoying. The second one just came naturally with weekly events. But if you don't pvp at all, might just be best skipping them.
[7:31 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Right, time for character 5 for tonight. Sheesh, and this for several weeks...
[7:32 PM]Eönwë Valar: hehe
[7:33 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Character 5 is Calmoria, my dark iron, and dedicated brewfest alt in previous years. Seems fitting to end with her.
[7:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: Looks like for Paladin (the only one I care about, I have every base skin except the Mage Tower for all three artifacts, and I got the Mage Tower for the Ashbringer.
[7:35 PM]Eönwë Valar: Admittedly, there's versions of both of the Prot and Holy Mage Tower skins that look better than the Ret one, but I played Ret at the time and I'm lucky I had a chance to get that one.
[7:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Day 1: 427 tokens. I'll take that.
[7:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: They're still outside of the currency tab and still not tradeable to other chars, right?
[7:54 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: They're warbound now. You can't send them to alts, though, because they're time-limited, but you can stash them in the warbank.
[7:55 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So just pool them all there together.
[7:55 PM]Eönwë Valar: That's something.
