Discord: Valar Guild/meeting_place

Before-Meeting

[April 1, 2025

[4:55 PM]Arien Valar: I came upon this wonderful gem . enjoy

[4:55 PM]Arien Valar: YouTube - GALADRIEL'S SONG - Song of Eldamar (Rachel Hardy and Timothy Shortell)

[5:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Purple gives 11719 experience eat tier 8, at level 58.

[5:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: *at

[5:35 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 2344 for green

[5:54 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Thought I'd try picking up all the candle bundles in Kriegval's Rest, leave none of them behind, and see if I could cover the boss room for maximum fighting space.

[5:54 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Pretty good result!

[5:55 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Of course my fighting was contained to a quarter of the inner circle, but the idea was good!

[7:00 PM]Eönwë Valar: Aye, tried something like that myself :}

[7:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: Oh good, patch notes are out for 11.4.1, and I couldn't be happier. They're finally adding more flight paths and more words on the screen. I've found both lacking.

[7:03 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: They took my top hat >.>

[7:07 PM]Eönwë Valar: Somehow this is funny:

[New System: War Couples:

[Pick two characters and assign them a lifelong commitment on the character selection screen with War Couples. Unlike Warbands, War Couples do not share much of anything, even though they've been together for a long time. War Couples keep separate accounts, and they get big stat bonuses when they're in a party together, but they seem to always leave parties early and you didn't even notice.

[7:07 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Considering most of my same race alts are related...

[7:08 PM]Eönwë Valar: Proof that Blizzard knew what they were doing:

[7:08 PM]Eönwë Valar: "Added an option to view all Xal'atath cinematics at two-foot"

[7:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I don't know if they knew what they were doing when they made it, but they definitely noticed the comments

[7:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: Actually, maybe that entire line of jokes is proof, lol.

[7:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW, Tarantino style.

[7:10 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well, the guy who made the cinematics knew what he was doing then :}

[7:13 PM]Eönwë Valar: Some of the Class jokes, I get the feeling are making a reference I don't get.

[7:14 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I know the paladin and rogue ones are related to songs I'm not very familiar with.

[7:16 PM]Eönwë Valar: I will now add "Flying Brutosaur" to the list of mounts I demand they add to the game. Right behind flying turtle...... yes, right behind.

[7:16 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If it's right behind the turtle, it'll probably complain about the traffic!

[7:16 PM]Eönwë Valar: hehe

[7:17 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But hey, they built an entire expansion around a former april fools' joke, so who knows?

[7:17 PM]Eönwë Valar:

[7:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Ok, there were a few good ones in there. I'll give them 3.5/5 stars.

[7:32 PM]Eönwë Valar: Moon Bridge

[7:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh wow.

[7:34 PM]Eönwë Valar: Yeah.

[7:40 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Makes me want to make my lunar-themed Nightborne alt, but there's still 2 alts ahead of her

[8:07 PM]Eönwë Valar: :}

[8:07 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well, got my second piece of tier gear. We'll see how much that affect my DPS. now.

[8:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Grats, and good luck!

[8:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hopefully I'll get my 4piece tomorrow in the vault

[8:12 PM]Eönwë Valar: Thanks. Got it from my vault, so we'll see what my delver's bounty gets me. Don't think WoD timewalking has a raid yet, if memory serves. April 2, 2025

[12:01 AM]Eönwë Valar: I should note that Zerk'vir seems to be broken. The door to his lair says you shouldget a bag for completion. He doesn't drop a bag, a bag doesn't appear in my inventory (a la events like the Theater), and the treasure room door doesn't open.

[12:01 AM]Eönwë Valar: I put in a bug, but Blizzard claims it's fixed. It's clearly not fixed because this has been the result for me since the beginning of Season 2.

[12:02 AM]Eönwë Valar: I'd be more vexed if I'd finally beaten ?? and got nothing, heh.

[4:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 4688 for blue companion experience, twice the green

[4:19 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Looks like blue is twice green, purple is 5x green.

[4:23 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also, this is on t9, so it might be related to Brann's level, since I found green and purple on T8.

[4:24 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Yes. Green is 2344 on both 8 and 9.

[5:37 PM]Eönwë Valar: And you said your Brann was around lvl 58? Mine was just 70 with the exp numbers I posted, so yeah, sounds like it scales by his level, but not by Delve tier if I'm reading this right?

[Eönwë Valar: I will now add "Flying Brutosaur" to the list of mounts I demand they add to the game. Right behind flying turtle...... yes, right behind.

[5:42 PM]Eönwë Valar: Image

[April 3, 2025

[5:16 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: XP's the same for 58 and 59, it must be in thresholds.

[6:22 PM]Eönwë Valar: Good to know.

[April 4, 2025

[2:34 AM]Eönwë Valar: Thought this was interesting: YouTube - Peter Jackson Removed the Scene that Made Tolkien Cry

[April 6, 2025

[4:04 PM]Varda: heh - good vibrations

[4:04 PM]Varda: Doing invites on Peregrin server for Falco

[4:04 PM]Varda: Eonwe, would you like to take this handy gavel for a bit?

[4:05 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sure.

[4:05 PM]Eönwë Valar: YouTube - Charlotte's Web (1973) - Chin Up! Scene (3/10) | Movieclips

[4:05 PM]Varda: Thank you!

[4:25 PM]Varda: Happy to have him!

[4:25 PM]Varda: A question to the group:

[4:26 PM]Varda: Now that housing broker specials are done, and transfers down to a dull roar, would you like the LotRO server announcements to be unfollowed in Harbor?

[4:26 PM]Varda: It does rather eat into our chat area!

[4:27 PM]Falco: Could create a Channel dedicated to Server Messages

[4:27 PM]Varda: or just go to it. Anyone need an invite there?

[4:28 PM]Arien Valar: invite where?

[4:28 PM]Eönwë Valar: If we needed/wanted it still, I'd say just throw it in the lotr-links channel. Seems the right spot for it.

[4:28 PM]Varda: It is a follow thingy

[4:29 PM]Eönwë Valar: Don't think we necessarily need it now that the most important reason to have it is handled, but if we want it that's where I'd put it.

[4:29 PM]Varda: I am sending out invites, take or not. : )

[2

[4:31 PM]Varda: It's a channel like ours. If you want it later, the invite can be sent then too. No FOMO here!

[4:32 PM]Varda: Ok, you should have your invites now. : )

[4:32 PM]Varda: Glamdring server is having some difficulties, but the others seem ok.

[4:33 PM]Varda: Any other news?

[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: That's my line :}

[4:33 PM]Varda: Go for it, Drew!

[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: :}

[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: If there's no more gaming news, then....

Tolkien

[4:34 PM]Eönwë Valar: Tolkien:

[4:34 PM]Eönwë Valar: And Varda has a topic for us :}

[4:34 PM]Varda: In Tolkien's works, what kind of buildings or other things did the "speaking" folk use? This includes any being from spider to Vala.

[4:35 PM]Sandalf13: In-the-ground-Holes for Hobbits, although with a lavishly designed interior.

[4:36 PM]Varda: No ends of worms? Well!

[4:36 PM]Eönwë Valar: Why settle for a natural cave when you can make a cave system of your own.

[4:37 PM]Sandalf13: Orcs lived in caves.

[4:37 PM]Sandalf13: Not much construction, but enough for their purposes.

[4:37 PM]Varda: And elves had some classy caves!

[4:37 PM]Varda: Partly thanks to the dwarves. : )

[4:38 PM]Sandalf13: The Men of Numenor and Numenorean descent built fortified cities, castles, palaces, and so on, based upon Elvish models.

[4:38 PM]Varda: Some cross-pollintion all around.

[4:39 PM]Eönwë Valar: Like their ships, I'm sure eventually they introduced their own elements.

[4:39 PM]Arien Valar: And the Rohirrim dwellings are based on Anglo Saxon longhouses and halls

[4:39 PM]Arien Valar: at least in Lotro :

[4:39 PM]Arien Valar:

[4:40 PM]Sandalf13: True. I am not sure we can make too many conclusions about their structural style from the LoTR.

[4:41 PM]Varda: What do you see from the books, Sandalf?

[4:41 PM]Arien Valar: and I remember in Time Team, my favorite archaeologic programm one of the moderators said if we want to get an idea what a royal anglo saxon hall looked like we should just look at Edoras in the Peter Jackson movies

[4:41 PM]Varda: (I've been gaming so much that my memory is tainted here.)

[4:42 PM]Varda: plus movies

[4:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well, where Tolkien goes into detail on the structures we can draw some conclusions.

[4:43 PM]Sandalf13: I surmise that the Rohirrim were not too much into building with stone, and that they favored the readily available wood from the mountains on the south side of Anorien (the White Mountains). This is interesting, given the fact that the larger part of the lands that they occupied were largely plains and steppes, pretty much devoid of trees.

[4:44 PM]Varda: What about Meduseld?

[4:44 PM]Sandalf13: Their great stone fortress of the Hornburg was built, afterall, by Numenoreans, whom Ghan-buri-Ghan ate stone for food

[4:44 PM]Sandalf13: G-b-G THOUGHT ate stone for food...sorry.

[4:46 PM]Sandalf13: I envision Meduseld as indeed constructed of wood. I suspect that since Tolkien was English, and very aware of modeling his Rohirrim after the early English, their individual dwelling were probably covered with turves of soil, or straw.

[4:49 PM]Varda: JRRT was very into Beowulf, which he taught, and used much of the old bravery style.

[4:49 PM]Arien Valar: how can the roof shine then in golden colours? Just an effect of the Sun rising and giving light on it?

[4:50 PM]Varda: So he would be familiar with their architecture.

[4:50 PM]Varda: Golden straw? Add gold strands to it?

[4:51 PM]Sandalf13: I assume the large size of Meduseld precluded the use of straw or turves...something more permanent had to be used...perhaps animal skins stretched across support beams?

[4:51 PM]Sandalf13: They woud allow plenty of light in

[4:52 PM]Varda: Still need to explain why it looked like a golden roof from a distance. It's an interesting puzzle.

[4:52 PM]Arien Valar: i guess they could be dyed with a golden colour

[4:53 PM]Varda: Aye. Gilt paint of some sort? Blond horsehair?

[4:53 PM]Sandalf13: Also, I suspect it was NOT made of gold...even extremely thin gold leaf. Perhaps the golden appearance of Meduseld was the result of light shining off the roof materials, just as the Front Range appears purple in the morning sun, when its actual color is anything but purple. Light reflections can play strange tricks on the ehye.

[4:54 PM]Sandalf13: That is a novel suggestion, Varda...no pun intended.

[4:54 PM]Varda: "Novel" means "new", or is supposed to, heh.

[4:55 PM]Sandalf13: I meant it both ways! I still like the idea of leather(animal skin) for a roof. Lightly tanned leather could look golden in the morning light, from a distance.

[4:57 PM]Varda: On to other housing: flets, talans

[4:57 PM]Arien Valar: platforms in trees with furniture and bannisters around them

[4:58 PM]Arien Valar: or no bannisters?

[4:58 PM]Sandalf13: No baniisters for them there Wood Elves...

[4:58 PM]Varda: Great balance or else!

[4:59 PM]Sandalf13: I think that TOlkien even mentions that when describing the Hobbit's reactions to being on a flet? Or am I mistaken?

[4:59 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sounds familiar. Something about Sam worried about rolling off I think.

[4:59 PM]Arien Valar: no i think u are right . i didnt think of that , just probably thought i d have added bannisters on them flets

[5:00 PM]Sandalf13: Yes. that is what I recall too.

[5:00 PM]Eönwë Valar: In UT it's said there's not a whole lot of stone, so the Elves used wood for housing. Living in the trees wasn't always something they did, but it was something they adapted to for safety.

[5:01 PM]Sandalf13: One thing that I did like about the Rings of Power was the architectural conception of Numenor...it certainly does look very Elvish. Almost as if it came straight out of Valinor.

[5:01 PM]Varda: Thranduil's people used to live in what became Dol Guldur, and in the north for protection went underground in Thranduil's Halls at need and for just living in.

[5:02 PM]Sandalf13: Did they build it, too?

[5:02 PM]Eönwë Valar: Throws holy water at Sandalf for mentioning Rings of Power

[5:03 PM]Sandalf13: Ah!

[5:04 PM]Sandalf13: Notice I said that ONE THING that I DID like...doesn't say a lot about the rest of it.

[5:04 PM]Varda: hehehe

[5:04 PM]Arien Valar: I think fromj what Thandruil sais to Thorin it sounds that Dwarves were involved to some degree in the building of those Wood Walls'

[5:04 PM]Varda: But we had to kid you about it. ; )

[5:04 PM]Sandalf13: Hey...I have suffered through MUCH worse.

[5:05 PM]Varda: (I will need to slide out, maybe back and forth. Truckload of wood headed this way.)

[5:05 PM]Sandalf13: For a fireplace? building? A new deck?

[5:05 PM]Varda: but will read back!

[5:05 PM]Varda: Roof on a workshop

[5:05 PM]Sandalf13: Sounds very Old English to me...he he

[5:06 PM]Arien Valar: I have to v bail out as well since bed time .. yawn

[5:06 PM]Sandalf13: Have a good week, Arien!

[5:07 PM]Arien Valar: Thanks Sandalf !

[5:07 PM]Arien Valar: Namarie for now !

[5:07 PM]Sandalf13: Namarie! I too must temporarily depart for chores before returning later for Ar's report.

[5:08 PM]Eönwë Valar: Then I suppose now is the best time to bang the gavel.

[5:08 PM]Eönwë Valar: Bangs Gavel

Thus ends this week's meeting. Come back and see us next week!

After-Meeting

[5:08 PM]Eönwë Valar: Aftermeeting:

[5:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: You all are free to do what you need to do :}

[5:46 PM]Varda: Now if only that wood were as light as thatch...

[5:46 PM]Varda: Fly!

[8:07 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya! Anyone home?

[8:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: Here am I.

[9:06 PM]Varda: Headed to bed. Very early morning coming up. Namarie!

[9:07 PM]Sandalf13: Namarie, Varda! Hope you roof-building skills result in a happy outcome.

[9:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sleep well Varda.

[April 7, 2025

[12:15 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya, lots of delays and some much-needed sleep later...

[12:16 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: caught up now, and the mention of golden straw reminds me of Rumpelstiltskin, who could spins straw into gold. That must be the explanation for Meduseld!

[12:19 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also, I'd only seen the WoW april fools. The others are fun too

[12:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Funny, as mentioned in the Rumble one, tapping the shark in the Booty Bay fight does animate him

[1:17 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming report:

[1:23 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, I give you Loot Loop Loot a roguelike rpg where you have to make your way through a map of levels with branching paths, getting gear along the way to upgrade your stats. Every time you defeat a level/node for the first time, you get a stat buff that persists through resets. And resets happen often enough, because you might run into bad luck or your time might run out. Try to get further and further every time until you complete the game!

[1:27 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: You can try to get to the end in the least tries possible, but I find it kinda nice to just unlock all the paths and bonuses

[1:30 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming:

[1:31 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: Level 41 on the reward track now. Getting closer to the normal slow pace.

[1:31 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Second week of the quest event is going, and I've completed enough daily quests that the main weekly quests will get me all the rewards.

[1:33 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: This week's quest was playing wild gods, and at only one per class, I just made myself a rogue deck using Ashamane, lots of rogue cards that give coins to be able to play it as early as possible, and a bunch of draw cards to get it earlier. It didn't always work, and I ended up just conceding if I didn't draw it early enough, because matches can really drag on later on

[1:33 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: With that strategy, getting it played 3 times a day was easy enough!

[1:34 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And I got enough wins to get the april card back as well, Waywatcher.

[1:35 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Brawl is Brawl Block: Tinyfin Mode! Make a wild deck, with basic, common and rare cards only. I've been having fun with a decktype I've been tempted by for years: Druid with jade golem spamming, including a bit of armor for stalling.

[1:36 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: When I get past the early stages - and plenty of people are using fast decks, so that can be painful - the golems just keep building up until the opponent just runs out of ways to stop me

[1:36 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: When it works, it's great fun!

[1:37 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble: No new collection level, since the track was already complete

[1:38 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: That didn't stop me from getting more challenges done for the event, though, which ends in a couple of days. Indeed, other than completing the heroic and mythic icecrown fights, the only challenge I have left is resurrecting 500 allied minis with Arthas, and that's over 90% of the way as well. I'll end up with almost 10000 extra tickets, which should get me a nice bit of arc energy on conversion.

[1:39 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the dungeon, blackrock week, I'd already started Thaurissan, before realizing I still had one level to complete on Rend Blackhand, so I got started on that instead.

[1:41 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And a funny thing... Rend gives a discount to flying minis, so I use an almost all flying army for him. Which works great in the first 2 levels of the dungeon, where they have an advantage against the gimmicks and bosses, but it makes the third level practically impossible: You can't just send them to the boss, but need to smash arcane domes of energy to hurt him... and flying minis don't target the things.

[1:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So... I'll have to wait until the next blackrock week when we get a different dungeon, and got Thaurissan to dungeon level 20 on the last day of the blackrock week.

[1:43 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And in the new cenarion dungeon week, I might actually complete my first family after all! All I have left is Malfurion, and I got him from level 17 through level 22. Only level 23 awaits, and I still have about 5 days to get that done. 22 gave me a bit of trouble, so I hope 23 is still doable.

[1:44 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh, and also for the Icecrown event, I got 3000 gold together to buy the Pillars of Frost skins for the buildings, which look quite good!

[1:46 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Quality wise I did get some upgrades, getting the Druid of the Claw to rare, and now that I can spend gold again, I've also bought 4 talents, for the earth elemental, banshee, and smoke bomb, as well as the final talent for Arthas.

[1:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 4 rares are still waiting for their talents, but they'll come soon enough.

[1:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:

[1:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: More raiding, with normal farming and a bit of heroic practice.

[1:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: That fills up the vault nicely as well, and I got my 4-piece bonus, and even the fifth piece of the tier set on our normal raid.

[1:51 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Weekly is timewalks, and we're breezing through them! I'm sure the setbonuses help, and I think everyone's just getting better gear right now

[1:52 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And finally, delves! Got high enough ilevel for tier 9, and that's probably where it's going to stay until heroic gear really starts coming in.

[1:52 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I did get my fourth delve mount customization, the Balloon. Only the green color variant remains to get.

[1:53 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also, as mentioned earlier in this channel, Brann hit 59!

[1:53 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh, and I got another mog from the delves, the Bitter Shroom Cap. That makes 3 shroom cap appearances now!

[1:53 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my report for the week

[1:54 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!
