[5:03 PM]Sandalf13: Speaking of etymology....and I apologize if this bores all of you who probably already know this, but I am hoping Arien will get a kick out of it, since she lives in Scotland. I enjoy reading the books by Alexander McCall Smith, who lives in Edinburgh (I believe). In his series of Inspector Varg novels (a detective in the Sensitive Crimes Unit of the Stockholm (?) Police Force), there is frequent allusion to the word VARG, that means "wolf" in Swedish (and Norwegian and Danish). There is NO "warg" in German, that I am aware of, so I wonder if Tolkien, who knew a lot about Scandanavian literature, based his Wargs (which would be pronounced Vargs in German) from the Swedish word Varg. After all, Vargs are wolves...
