Before-meeting

Eonwë Valar — 01/29/2024 7:41 PM
So Diablo, Warcraft, and WC2:Bnet edition are available through Blizzard's shop now. Going back to D1 would be quite the nostalgia trip, but too bad the ME mod most likely wouldn't work with it.
[7:43 PM]
I'd have to know that it wouldn't be hideously small on my 4k screen though.

Varda — 01/29/2024 9:52 PM
Sandalf, sounds wonderful!
Eonwe, sure hope the games and computers finally get together again!
[9:53 PM]
Middle-earth mod would be fantastic. : )

Virtual food does pass around well.
[4:09 PM]
That's a lot of hours. Maybe we'd better get started learning something!

Just got back from one week up at Swan Mountain; got in three days of skiing...and left just before the beg snowstorm hit...we got 9 inches in Thornton, about 2 feet in the mountains.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:19 PM
Oof.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:20 PM
So you need to go back and test the new snow? : )

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:20 PM
Not for a little while! I need to recover. I don't snap back as quick as I used to...but I did mostly black runs (groomed) so I am very happy.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
No, hadn't put it on the Gaming News yet, but I'd remembered it :}
[4:25 PM]
Blizzard hadn't put up the announcement yet either last I checked.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
That's what I meant, actually, and I think you usually base your gaming news on those, so thought I'd mention it.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
But yeah, thanks for making sure it's mentioned.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:26 PM

Pallando-Valar — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Official Eve news remains quiet, but the CSM summit is coming up very soon and we might get some official words out of that once the minutes are published.
[4:39 PM]
In in-game events, the Insurgencies introduced in November in the Havoc expansion have been a streak of uninterrupted wins for the Pirates for various reasons
[4:40 PM]
The Gallente Milita just scored the first win for the Empire forces vs the Guristas yesterday:

[4:41 PM]
The Minmatar Militia is attempting to replicate this feat vs the Angels, but it's a much closer and harder struggle.
[4:41 PM]
I have been part of that effort and am continuing that work even now.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
Huzzah!

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:41 PM
good luck :)

Pallando-Valar — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Vanguard, the upcoming FPS from CCP Games that will tie into the Eve universe, had another test weekend this past weekend. People are pretty enthusiastic about it. There are more tests every month through June, with feature updates slated for March and June and bugfixes inbetween.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Cool.
[4:46 PM]
Has a platform been announced, or is it strictly for PC?
[4:47 PM]
Or undetermined as of yet?

Guessing Pallando is away. He is welcome to break in with an answer as we move along.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Always interesting to hear what the gang thinks of that subject.
heh
[4:53 PM]
Surprise, Phar!
Anyway, the topic in mind was related to some of what was said earlier.

What motivation kept the Fellowship members going against so much set against them? Especially Frodo?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Estel

Varda — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Yes, but what fueled that hope?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Food.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
hehe

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Seriously, probably more like determination.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
What fueled the determination?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Light plays a role in it. The phial of Galadriel, in the caverns of Shelob. The lone star shining through the smoke over Mordor. Gandalf the White blinding the orcs at Helm's Deep (or is that movie only?)

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
On the edge of Mordor, both Frodo and Sam were thinking about The Shire, and how the mission they were involved with ws purposed to preserve "goodness" in Middle-earth.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
The light shining on the old statue in Ithilien.
Light is a good source of hope.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
The desire to not just let Sauron win and snuff out everything good in the world.

@Eonwë Valar
Has a platform been announced, or is it strictly for PC?
Pallando-Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Sorry for disappearing, I'm running around like mad for the Insurgency work. Currently strictly PC with no indication of consoles. The previous Eve FPS was DUST514 and somewhat infamously was a PS3 exclusive released less than a year before the PS4 came out (which had all of the bad effects you might imagine..), so there might be some hesitance around consoles. That said, it's early in the development and modern engines (it's a UE5 game) make porting much, much easier than it used to be, so it's possible.
[4:59 PM]

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:59 PM

Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Thank you, Pallando! Nice thing about text is it lets us work around time problems.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Can't resist a good disappearance act.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
sometimes its also thinking of what the enemy aims to achieve and then it comes to you : *No i am not the one that lets THAT going to hapen" but i dont know whether Tolkien used that

Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
O yes, Arien. It looked as if that was in there too.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Sometimnes you just have to do what you have to do, espeically when it comes to defeating evil in the world, and despite the odds being against you....sort of fatalistic, I suppose, but that is Tolkien for you.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:01 PM

Varda — Yesterday at 5:01 PM

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Hige sceal the heardra, and all that good stuff, that Tolkien thought deeply about.

Sam: "For Rosie!"

Varda — Yesterday at 5:03 PM

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
For Bill the Pony!

Varda — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
To make sure what one loves will continue.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Will shall be harder, heart the stronger, spirit the greater, as our strength lessens....Old English, the Battle of Maldon, that Tolkien studied in detail.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
Frodo sure showed that one.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
The same idea as in the poem "Ulysses," by Lord Alfred Tennyson...a very English concept.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Aragorn fought to be with the woman he loved, but if he failed she could've still escaped to safety across the Sea (whether she would have  gone, or pulled another Luthien, we don't have enough about her to know). There was nowhere safe Rosie could go if Sam failed.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
I believe that Aragorn was fighting for more than just his love for Arwen...he was raised to believe that the fight for "right" over "evil" was his (and others) duty.
Arwen was a nice side catch, as it was.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Of course.
[5:07 PM]
Of course he was fighting for more than that.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Got to check on my chicken....be back in a moment. Duty calls!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
My point was that the danger in failure was more personal for Sam.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
chicken checkin'

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
The battle needed fought. Even if Aragorn wasn't trying to reclaim his kingdom, he would've fought it, but if he failed, if he died (which would've been a top priority for Sauron if he succeeded, finishing off the Heir of Isildur), he could take some solace  knowing the woman he loved would be safe.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
Funny, that. Considering he was still the Heir of Isildur, it means his ancestors did manage to procreate before dying. While he waged battle after battle, putting himself on the edge of death again and again, not starting a family until he was king.
[5:13 PM]
Had he always known it'd be down to his generation, or were his ambitions in love just so much greater than his forefathers?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Elrond set the bar: "I'm not giving my daughter to anyone but the King of Both Arnor and Gondor." At that point it's step up or give up.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
I mean, if he'd fallen right there and then, the entire line's effort would've been for nothing right at the last moment.
[5:14 PM]
So yes, it was his ambition, then, going for a (3/4th, give or take) elf as his love interest, rather than settling for a human like his ancestors
[5:16 PM]
Another question of fate, then. If it'd been a hundred years later for the Ring to turn up and Sauron to make his move... no elf bride for him.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:17 PM
Well, he'd fallen in love, and for Elves (which the Numenoreans became more like when they were given Numenor) getting over something like that isn't an "Oh, I woke up feeling better today" kind of thing. It might've taken him decades to fall in love again if he'd lost Arwen, assuming he ever did meet someone.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:17 PM
So would the line have ended at that point? Or would he have some cousins running around somewhere?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
I suspect he would've just devoted himself to the cause and not fallen in love again, but that's me.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
Also Aragorn had the little task of keeping Surons lackeys and evil in check ... i mean keeping watch over peaceful people like the Hobbits .. and just on this occasion he was getting rid of the root of the evil
Sauron's

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:18 PM
It doesn't say if there were other descendents of Isildur out there, just that Aragorn was 39th in direct line.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
Kinda some pressure to make a 40th, then, wouldn't you say?

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
or not necessarily Sauron 's lackeys but keepin g them sacfe in general

@Ar-Pharazon-V
Kinda some pressure to make a 40th, then, wouldn't you say?
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:20 PM
I don't know. That's a longer discussion than I have time for.

people

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:22 PM
Fair enough. I just thought it was funny that after 40 or so generations, it was lucky that the one heir who had his heart set on one that required the kingship, was the one being around at the right time to actually have the chance to claim it.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Was it luck?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Hence my mention of fate, earlier :)

Varda — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Ok : )
The timing of things all around was interesting, but a different subject

After-meeting!

[5:25 PM]
Free chat. Carry on chat or fall asleep or whatever suits your fancy!

The world would have fallen to Sauron and all would have been dark and enslavement. What a lousy way to live. Yep, I'll go on this mission.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
Probably alot of signs that said it was going to be Aragorn or nobody. Narsil revorged, the Ring showing up, etc.
[5:26 PM]
Not that Aragorn would've known that was going to happen when he fell in love, but there you go.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:26 PM
Wasn't Narsil reforged just for this occasion? Sauron's forces coming back?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:26 PM
Setting the bar that high makes sure Aragorn is serious, but it's dangerous too. Thingol set the bar so high it destroyed his kingdom and cost him his life.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:27 PM
Hmm, true that
And yes, Aragorn wouldn't have known that, so good for him that it worked out

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:28 PM
Elrond had Elvish foresight though. He knew things were heading that way, and he probably suspected when he set that bar that Aragorn was "that guy".

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
Ah, good point.
In contrast to Thingol, actually, who tried to force the situation by initiating the breaking of the status quo himself.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Perhaps Elrond was essentially buying Arwen time to decide to sail with him if Aragorn failed. "You're not convincing my daughter to give up her immortality until you can show me she'll be safe."

and the world she d rzaise her children in

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Thingol just wanted Beren dead, aye, so in his bid to have Beren dead and keep his own hands clean, he dragged himself into a Doom he'd so far managed to avoid.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Thingol sending out Beren would've been the equivalent to Elrond saying to Aragorn, "I know nothing's happening right now and Sauron's asleep in Mordor, but if you want my daughter's hand you'll have to go in there yourself and take him out. And if you could find the Ring along the way, that'd be nice." Instead, Elrond knew things were about to change regardless.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
that be Elrond';s grandkids
[5:33 PM]
but anyway .... I have to keep Dreamlands safe .. (side note I enjoyed playing in the emera;d drea, a ;pt ^^)
(a lot)

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:34 PM
Oh, tonight, while dreamwalking to Moonglade for the Lunar Festival, I actually discovered the dreamgrove now has a portal to Amirdrassil. Not the Emerald Dream version though, which would've been handy for the raid

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
Cool
Sleep well Arien.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
Namarie Arien!

Varda — Yesterday at 5:35 PM

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:36 PM
I'm running late on being gone myself.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:36 PM
Namarie, then!

Varda — Yesterday at 5:37 PM
We are a hazard to schedules. : )

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:41 PM
Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
Fun shall be had!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
Indeed!

Varda — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
Or if it's Phar, he'll work out double the fun. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:43 PM
Well, I'm always doing several games at once

Varda — Yesterday at 5:51 PM
So triple the fun? : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:51 PM
Sometimes!

Varda — Yesterday at 5:52 PM
hehe
[5:53 PM]
In side news, my laptop no longer hooks to the internet wirelessly as of last night. Now using a cord, which kind of blows the ability to move around. But it works!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:54 PM
Ah, weird. But glad you can still have it work!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 6:10 PM
Chicken is fine, and is on warm. Frozen veggies are in the pot, waiting to boil when the guests arrive (5 kids and two adults). Salad is made and dressed. Bread is on the table. The table is set. The guacamole is ready for dipping, and there are chips out for the kids. So. All I need now is for the guests to arrive...and I did manage to clean myself and change my clothes, so as to be presentable!
[6:11 PM]
Dessert is non-dairy frozen yogurt, grapes, and some pie. With the all-day fog and gloom out there, a good night to have some friends over!

Varda — Yesterday at 6:33 PM
Pie!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:31 PM
Aiya all! The guest are gone, the dishwasher is humming, and the kitchen is clean. Time to read Ar's report, if he is still with us.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:32 PM
I'm here, soon done with my actual gaming

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:32 PM
The three youngest guests were 5, 7, and 9...quite a busy group. The older boys are 13 and 15, so a little more "tame."
[9:33 PM]
And I am ready for your report!
It is very strange looking out over my snow-covered backyard with a thick fog lying low on the ground...surreal.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:01 PM
Shpooky!
[10:01 PM]
Anyway, personal gaming report:

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 10:01 PM

For (non)flashgaming, I give you https://www.kongregate.com/games/Aimless_Studios/law-of-the-cat-god an idle game with a feline theme. Taking place in a future where cats have taken over the world, have built up a society and live by praying to the cat god, usually by petting themselves.
    Kongregate
    Law of the Cat God
Law of the Cat God is an idle clicker game with a unique storyline and a touch of humor. In this game, you find yourself in a future where cats have taken over...

[10:02 PM]
Get karma by petting cats, hiring extra paws, and befriending famous cats from the history outlined in the lore book.
[10:03 PM]
You can then reset for favor by spending karma, reset for gifts by spending favors, spending gifts for blessings, etc!
And enjoy the many... many. Many catpuns.
[10:05 PM]

Blizzard gaming:
[10:08 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 107 on the reward track, as it goes faster after 100, although the rewards are reduced to 50 gold per level. For level 100, however, I got my first pick of the new set of reward class skins, and chose Scourgeborne Arthas for the death knight. It fits my unholy deck well.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:10 PM
Brawl is Lunar Blessings: For the lunar new years, choose a class, get a random deck, and choose between 3 animals of the chinese calendar, each with a unique buff. Some of the more powerful ones are giving minions reborn or extra health below a certain mana cost, which works well with classes such as death knight and shaman.
[10:11 PM]
Rumble:
Collection level 26 now. I read 50 is supposed to be the maximum, so we're into the second half!
Made more progress in the sigil campaign, getting the first 3 fights in Un'goro done.
[10:12 PM]
It's beast week in the dungeon this time, and I cleared level 11 with Hogger. Higher than that is giving me a bit of trouble though.
[10:14 PM]
For the minis, I got 1 more to uncommon, the Spiderlings. More uncommons were piling up in the grid, and I couldn't afford to keep them all in there by moving them constantly, so I decided to let them go and focus on them now as they come up again.
I did get 3 new talents though: Second one for the mountaineer, and the ideal ones for the skeleton party and the aforementioned spiderlings.
So now talents are caught up again, and it's time to save up for more uncommon upgrades.
[10:16 PM]
WoW:
More raiding! We cleared the first 7 bosses on tuesday and one-shotted the last 2 tonight, so not only was it a short raid, but we've also got tuesday off again. The raid is now firmly on farm.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:17 PM
For old raiding, we finally got the last pet from the secondlast boss in Siege of Orgrimmar, so on our future runs we can drop out early. I think I'll go back to using the druid for that, since I only brought the paladin for the shoulders from the last boss, but I don't see that as a priority.
[10:18 PM]
Weekly quest is Cataclysm timewalking, which I got done on saturday because one of the instances counts for 2. No upgrade from the reward though, but that's expected at this point into the raidtier.
[10:20 PM]
From the Lunar Festival, there was one new bit I could find, which was a new dragon customization armor, Lunar Festival themed for the winding slitherdrake. At 50k gold, I pooled a bit of gold from my alts to buy it. I don't know if I have enough if another shows up for Love is in the Air, but it should be fine.
[10:22 PM]
And finally, for alting, a bit more Revendreth on the mage. She's helped out Theotar a bit more, made a journey with him across the Ember Ward, and is now helping a mirror maker escape from the ward by collecting mirror shards. That side questline should take me into an enemy base next, and after that I'll continue on the last main chapters of the zone.
[10:23 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
Namarie :)

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 10:32 PM
Namarie!
Had gotten busy on another site and just finished up your report. Have a great week!
