[4:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Thanks

[4:33 PM]Varda: On to

Tolkien

[4:33 PM]Varda: Tolkien!

[4:33 PM]Varda: Does anyone have a topic they'd like to try?

[4:35 PM]Varda: Fangorn-(Valar) asks why Saruman was the White instead of Gandalf from the beginning, and why did he fall?

[4:35 PM]Eönwë Valar: Pride and pride?

[4:36 PM]Varda: Did Saruman himself get to pick that he was boss?

[4:36 PM]Varda: Varda simply said Gandalf was "not the least".

[4:36 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Last but not least.

[4:36 PM]Sandalf13: But not the first, either...at least at that time.

[4:36 PM]Varda: And aye, pride of the hubris type.

[4:37 PM]Eönwë Valar: UT tells the story of the Istari being sent, but of course, my copy is not handy.

[4:37 PM]Varda: Aye

[4:37 PM]Varda: I keep my copies by the comp, or my comp by the copies...

[4:37 PM]Sandalf13: My copy is in Thornton. Far Away.

[4:37 PM]Varda: heh

[4:37 PM]Varda: This may not have been the best time for that topic then.

[4:37 PM]Varda: Feel free to mention another!

[4:37 PM]Eönwë Valar: So yours are a little further away than mine.

[4:37 PM]Sandalf13: Sounds like it....

[4:38 PM]Eönwë Valar: So unless mine are still in a bookstore I guess I lose that one, heh.

[4:38 PM]Varda: New topic. You guys get to suggest. : )

[4:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Maybe Gandalf started out white as well, but all the wandering made him all dusty, while Saruman stayed in one place

[4:39 PM]Eönwë Valar: Why did Father Christmas give Edmond and Peter swords? Oh wait, wrong book series.

[4:40 PM]Varda: Gandalf the Dusty!

[4:40 PM]Eönwë Valar: hehe Phar.

[4:40 PM]Eönwë Valar: OK new topic: what's the Elvish word for "dust" heh.

[4:40 PM]Varda: Mandarin is fui. O wait, that's not Elvish.

[4:40 PM]Sandalf13: Saruman probably had access to better washing facilities than The Grey Pilgrim did.

[4:41 PM]Eönwë Valar: Saruman the many-bottles-of-bleach.

[4:41 PM]Varda: Horse trough vs wash bucket, or maybe something better.

[4:41 PM]Varda: hehehe

[4:41 PM]Varda: The real reason Saruman had white robes. Much bleach!

[4:42 PM]Sandalf13: Interesting that you brought that up...the chemistry of making bleach is not simple...I wonder where in Middle-earth such a chemical factory could have been located...

[4:43 PM]Sandalf13: Oops...got to head to dinner with the Group...will check in again later (?). Namarie!

[4:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: Mordor, Isengard... Rivendell.

[4:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: Have fun Sandalf.

[4:43 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: namarie!

[4:43 PM]Sandalf13: Thanks! Bis spaeter!

[4:43 PM]Varda: Namarie!

[4:44 PM]Varda: and he got the chemistry wrong. O look! Rainbow colors!

[4:44 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: hehe

[4:44 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sounds like Saruman: "I didn't make a mistake, I made an invention!"

[4:45 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Usually, colors fade out...

[4:45 PM]Varda: Bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) History

[4:46 PM]Varda: Even now, bleach can destroy fabric if left too long. Even make it itchy before that. I found out the hard way. : )

[4:47 PM]Eönwë Valar: I would say Elves could've had that, but it doesn't sound like it would've helped much under the stars. They would've likely had more natural remedies.

[4:48 PM]Eönwë Valar: Vinegar, baking soda (?), lemon juice.

[4:48 PM]Varda: Maybe they didn't need their stuff to be perfectly white.

[4:49 PM]Varda: Mentions potash. Maybe they didn't know it forms under campfires.

[4:49 PM]Varda: If there are no further comments or suggestions or requests...?

[4:50 PM]Varda: Elves could just ask Orome how to get their clothes white. : )

[4:51 PM]Eönwë Valar: Have Nahar drag it so fast the stains can't keep up? ;}

[4:51 PM]Varda: White dust!

[4:51 PM]Varda: Chalk. Limestone.

[4:51 PM]Eönwë Valar: Both a possibility.

[4:52 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If you go fast enough I suppose friction might remove some stains

[4:52 PM]Varda: Green from grass stains for a color for Saruman?

[4:52 PM]Varda: Blue would have been a tough color. That would have made the Blues Brothers, er, the Blue Wizards, stand out.

[4:53 PM]Arien Valar: i wonder something .... given that magic means tampering with the natural world by supernatural means , essentially breaking up atoms , since every material is made up of atoms . so if they break up the amount of atmos that make up white with magic .it comes out mant coloured no?

[4:53 PM]Arien Valar: do you understand what i mean?

[4:53 PM]Varda: You prismed.

[4:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: Well, if the materials themselves were of separate colors naturally, then yes.

[4:56 PM]Eönwë Valar: They're not breaking up "white" they're breaking up a mineral that happens to be white.

[4:56 PM]Arien Valar: yeah

[4:56 PM]Varda: How about using pearl? Mother of pearl? Grind up.

[4:57 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Or it's like a tv screen, where if you have materials that are green, red, and blue interwoven on an atomic level, and split them apart, you get colors

[4:57 PM]Varda: Aye. A difference between light and solid pigment colors.

[5:00 PM]Arien Valar: chalk is white , if you mix that with whater and mother of pearl, grind that together ...with a fat of sorts maybe .. i dont know i am not very well versed chemically or physically and getting sleepy as well alas

[5:01 PM]Varda: and it is the hour. : )

[5:01 PM]Arien Valar: i am sure that the elves were actually taught by the valar themselves in their arts and skills

[5:01 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Those who'd been to Valinor, at least.

[5:01 PM]Varda: Aye, Arien. Some had much more of that teaching than others.

[5:01 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I bet Galadriel would know how to keep clothes white.

[5:02 PM]Varda: Going to Valinor was best. Galadriel was from Valinor, like Phar said, so she could have passed it along.

[5:02 PM]Varda: The Sindar were also trained by Maiar and even Ulmo, so they later were asked by Silvans to lead them to give them training as well.

[5:02 PM]Eönwë Valar: The Elves would've discovered some things on their own.

[5:02 PM]Varda: A real case of knowledge is power.

[5:02 PM]Varda: What Eonwe said. They had lots of time, too!

[5:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: Before the Valar came to them, plus even with the teaching of the Valar they could've built on it to learn and create other things.

[5:04 PM]Varda: the gavel hops out, trying to look white

[5:04 PM]Varda: falls into a bowl of bean dip, no longer has to pretend

[5:04 PM]Varda: the bowl turned out to be the hammerpad!

[5:04 PM]Varda: glop!

After-Meeting

[5:05 PM]Varda: After-meeting!

[5:05 PM]Eönwë Valar: We don't know that the Valar would've really considered how something might be used to make whiter whites and remove stains from clothing. They didn't have that need, and necessity is the mother of invention.

[5:05 PM]Varda: Free chat, even Tolkien chat!

[5:06 PM]Varda: And then there's my stuff looks whiter than yours. The Romans had a thing like that, as keeping anything white even after getting there was tough.

[5:06 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: One part "Look at me, I've got access to better cleaning materials" and one part "Look at me, I don't have to do anything to make my clothes dirty."

[5:07 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: *that makes my

[5:07 PM]Varda: heh, true

[5:08 PM]Arien Valar: well my sheets are in fact green i, not white , in fact ^^ also my bed cloths and the pillow ^^ and thats quite nice as well nod

[5:08 PM]Eönwë Valar: Arien the Green.

[5:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh, my sheets are green as well With kittens on them!

[5:08 PM]Varda: There you go. Colors are a big thing now. Saruman-approved.

[5:08 PM]Arien Valar: hehe

[5:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Saruman the Prismatic.

[5:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: Pharazon the many-kittened.

[5:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Indeed!

[5:09 PM]Varda: hehehe

[5:09 PM]Arien Valar: thats where i am gonna go in fact .. alas Namarie . , have fun

[5:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: Sleep well Arien :}

[5:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!

[5:09 PM]Eönwë Valar: Have a Merry Christmas :}

[5:09 PM]Varda: It's After-meeting! No worries.

[5:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And that

[5:09 PM]Varda: Namarie!

[5:10 PM]Varda: I too need to go.

[5:10 PM]Arien Valar: and have merry happy holidays and christmas time

[5:10 PM]Varda: Have a great week!

[5:10 PM]Eönwë Valar: In fact, I should be off too. Take care all, good night, sleep well, Merry Christmas, and enjoy the stories :}

[5:10 PM]Varda: yay fun!

[5:10 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Happy Christmas!

[5:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And namarie to all ye leavers I'm sure I'll get to report in a few hours, I'm once again a bit ill and wishing to take a nap for a few hours

[9:10 PM]Varda: Hope the nap helps you feel better!

[9:10 PM]Varda: Nighty night

[December 23, 2024

[12:19 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming report:

[12:20 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, something small and silly today!

[12:24 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Song for a Bird is a puzzle game by Bart Bonte, one of my favorite kongregate creators, celebrating his 10 year anniversary of game making on the site. Complete the lines to the song by solving what we call a "droedel" in Dutch, basically a letter-rebus, with the letters hanging in the tree.

[12:24 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And enjoy the music as well!

[12:26 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming:

[12:28 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: Level 74 on the reward track now.

[12:29 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Quest event is going well. I'm starting to think battlegrounds give more individual xp on the event track, since some math tells me that for next week, I only need to complete the last main quest and 1 or 2 dailies to finish it.

[12:32 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Brawl is Wacky Waxy Winter Veil. Both sides of the board have gifts spawn, which on death, give random legendary minions to the opponent at 3 mana discount. Quite powerful, so you need decks that get you the kills fast, or even deny your opponent your gifts. The latter can, for example, be done by a shaman deck using evolve-like cards, changing your minions, and therefore your gifts, into different minions, removing them from the board without killing them!

[12:33 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: If I recall from previous years, the next brawl should also be with gifts, but with the rewards going to who kills them. A warlock friendly fire deck should be fun for that!

[12:35 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble: Collection level 50! Originally the level cap, it gives the maximum bonuses to experience, neatly rounding up the numbers as well. For example, the basic tomes now give exactly 1000 xp per mini.

[12:35 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Since recently you can level up higher, uncapped, though there's no more permanent bonuses, just a bit of gold per level, I think.

[12:38 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Winter Veil event is still going, though we're nearly at the end of the Anub'arak phase. Had good fun with him, won a decent amount of pvp for his challenges, and got all the most important stuff from his reward track.

[12:38 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: That includes all the Anubarak stars, which, combined with getting a few more stars from the grid, got him not only to uncommon but even rare quality.

[12:39 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also got all the stars for other minis from the track, and what remains from the challenges I complete tomorrow I'll spend on tomes on the track, which is always a bonus.

[12:40 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Next 10-day phase should be Orgrim Doomhammer, I believe.

[12:42 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the dungeon, I finally got level 21 done with Hogger in the beast week, with a few lucky talent choices.

[12:43 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And in the horde week, continuing with Grom Hellscream, my second leader, making my through level 11. At this level it jumps by 3, so trying 14 tomorrow I haven't really got a good grip on Hellscream, not sure what minis suit his bloodlust well, if indeed anything specific. I suppose some bulky or heavy damage might benefit most.

[12:45 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the heroic sigil campaign, almost done with Hinterlands. Defeated Elder Torntusk with all families, which was pretty tough. The green dragon flying around not only sleeps your minis now, but actually turns them against you after the sleep. It either requires an unbound deck that can spawn right at the boss, skipping the center area, and kill him before his troops reach you, or you need to time some faster troops to dodge the dragon altogether. That latter worked for most of the families, but I had to adapt my alliance one to the former.

[12:46 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And also defeated Falstad with 2 families. As a flying boss, you need to put more ranged minis in than you likely usually have, but once you have that, it's quite straightforward.

[12:47 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: At 129 sigils now

[12:48 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: As for quality upgrades, as mentioned earlier I got Anubarak from common to uncommon to rare. Also finally got my very first leader, Tirion, to rare as well, as well as the quillboar mini.

[12:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aside from the first talent for Anubarak, though, I haven't bought any of their new talent options, since I prefer to buy cheaper options on the grid at the moment for the event challenges. Hopefully I can get a bit of a gold buffer going so I can watch out for the now 5 talents my upgraded minis are waiting for

[12:50 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But if these events keep following each other, that might be tricky!

[12:51 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:

[12:52 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: No more raiding! That should give me more time, but since I'm once again ill and still rather tired, I haven't made much progress.

[12:52 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Don't think I've even done any delves.

[12:53 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Weekly this week is cataclysm timewalking, which I have been doing a bit, needing 2 more this reset.

[12:54 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I have been doing Winter Veil stuff, getting the new appearance sets from the goblin vendor, and visiting the Greench boss for his daily quest. In the process I've gotten the new pet, Grunch, twice already. But the Flames of Ragnaros illusion still lacks

[12:55 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Haven't visited Siren Isle yet either, though it is recommended in order to get the new ring. And if I can level up that ring a bit, it'll help with higher tier delves as well. And I will start that soon!

[12:55 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So yes, lots to do. Hopefully I will feel a bit better soon

[12:56 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And for the holidays as well, of course!

[12:56 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my report for the week!

[12:56 AM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie

[1:09 PM]Varda: Thanks, Phar. : )

[1:09 PM]Varda: Lord of the Rings Online: kinfolk present in our branches this past week:

Landroval branch

Crickhollow branch:

Treebeard branch:

Angmar branch:

Mordor branch:

[11:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: Got the Life-binder's Handmaiden mount (dragon) from the Catalcysm timewalking raid cache.

[11:55 PM]Eönwë Valar: Just one mount to 500.

[December 24, 2024

[7:12 AM]Eönwë Valar: And I now have the phoenix wishwing pet because I didn't want to have to remember about that darn feather I got in the Firelands.

[7:27 AM]Eönwë Valar: Well, started char surfing, guess my Dwarf Paladin has a mount my Human Paladin can't use, and now I've got the 500 mounts achievement.

[2:41 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Grats

[2:41 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Strange, you'd think that if it's the racial paladin mount, human wouldn't count for dwarf either.

[December 25, 2024

[3:37 AM]Eönwë Valar: Yeah.

[3:37 AM]Eönwë Valar: I guess they allow it though since Dwarves didn't used to have their own.

[5:35 AM]Eönwë Valar: Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

[1

[3:56 PM]Eönwë Valar: Got the Grunch, which was apparently my 800th pet and so I got the achievement and my 801st pet because of it.

[4:28 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Yay!

[5:22 PM]Eönwë Valar: I still need to defeat Phalanx in BRD Anniversary raid. No LFR group seems to want to do it.

[5:23 PM]Eönwë Valar: That boss achievement is the only one I haven't completed for the Anniversary.

[5:25 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ouch.

Thus ends this week's meeting. Come back and see us next week!
