E03 Averting a war between Elves and Dwarves? - Deep dive into the ...
[4:13 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Second one's proivate.
[4:57 PM]Ungwetari: Yeah, sorry, I didn't think you'd open it straight away, so I let you know while I was still uploading.
[4:58 PM]Ungwetari: Should be public soon
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, sure
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Not watching em whole just yet, was just curious
[5:12 PM]Ungwetari: Let me know what you think once you've seen them?
[5:20 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, from the bits I've seen (tough to make time for 2 hour videos, so browsing through them a bit until later) they seem ok! Good volume, your English is definitely more audible than some other let's plays I've seen, and you're getting better at flow of speech.
[5:24 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Lore dumps are good, I can imagine that they'll be sparser or with shorter gameplay lapses later on, but they're fine with me since I know it's lore-focused.
[5:25 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Yeah, that's basically my impression so far
[5:25 PM]Ungwetari: Thanks!
[5:26 PM]Ungwetari: I'm trying to just stream and record the main quest gameplay, along with area exploration that ties into the lore somehow. I prefer to do the actual leveling and sidequests off-screen.
[5:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, right. That's fair. I'm a bit completist about playthroughs I watch but for the niche, it makes sense
[5:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Main quests are most important anyway!
[5:28 PM]Ungwetari: Well, I've tried the completionist way, but it really grinds me up over time. And it's not exactly riveting gameplay when I sort out my bags or veer off the road to mine the thousandth node of ore, or the long, long time spent crafting.
[5:29 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: True
[5:29 PM]Ungwetari: Maybe that might work if I have more people to chat with, but for the time being, it's only a few.
[5:29 PM]Ungwetari: But it's really nice that last Monday I found a new viewer (or rather, she found me), and that she came back tonight.
[5:30 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, great! Audience growing

[4:12 PM]Eönwë Valar: Thanks.
[4:13 PM]Eönwë Valar: Continueing with Membership news, Varda's travelling during this Labor Day weekend, so that's why she's not here.
[4:13 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: She's laboring?
[4:14 PM]Eönwë Valar: Or enjoying the ride while Fangorn labors, heh.
[4:14 PM]Eönwë Valar: Depends on who's driving :}
[4:14 PM]Eönwë Valar: Any other Membership news?
[4:14 PM]Arien Valar: aiya all
[4:14 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya
[4:14 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heya. And now we're three.

[4:17 PM]Eönwë Valar: Hmm, guess that has the opening for all the seasons. Was wondering why it was that long.
[4:17 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: hehe
[4:18 PM]Arien Valar: i was thinking more of chapter four or five of the fellowship of the ring
[4:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I wanna say it's chapter 3, fittingly.
[4:18 PM]Arien Valar: i think might be three lol
[4:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: hehe
[4:20 PM]Arien Valar: yup nod
[4:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: It is Chapter 3 :}
[4:21 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 4's the one iwht the shrooms.
[4:21 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: with
[4:22 PM]Eönwë Valar: It's likely (and in the case of the sitcom name certainly) a reference to the phrase "Two is company, and three a crowd."
[4:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Which got awkwardly namedropped in the movie.
[4:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And I think the LotR parody book called it "Three's company and four's a bore"
[4:22 PM]Eönwë Valar: heh
[4:23 PM]Eönwë Valar: Anyway, Any other Membership News?

[4:31 PM]Eönwë Valar: Any other Gaming News?
[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: OK, then on to
[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: Tolkien:
[4:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmm, looking at that blog... seems D4's getting changed closer to the original D3.
[4:36 PM]Eönwë Valar: That'd be funny, since the original D3 took some changing too as I recall.
[4:38 PM]Eönwë Valar: Unless you mean the original after the changes. I didn't get involved in D3 until the expansion so I just remember alot of people complaining about how D3 was in the beginning, but don't have personaly experience to go by.
[4:39 PM]Ungwetari: Aiya!\
[4:39 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heya.
[4:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, the difficulty tiers, the paragon points... I think it's closer to earlier D3, even if not exactly the starting condition.
[4:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
[4:39 PM]Ungwetari: I have some news to share, as you may all have seen.
[4:40 PM]Eönwë Valar: Go ahead before we move fully into Tolkien.
[4:41 PM]Ungwetari: Well, I picked up my Deep dive into the Lore of LotRO again!
[4:42 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: \o/
[4:42 PM]Ungwetari: There are now 5 episodes online on Youtube, and I'm streaming on Twitch. Not sure how much or what days yet, but for the time being, it'll be Monday and Friday nights (GMT timezone).
[4:44 PM]Ungwetari: I can provide links if wanted, but that's all I wanted to say.
[4:44 PM]Arien Valar: nice one
[4:46 PM]Ungwetari: Twitch video playlist, Twitch video intro
[4:47 PM]Eönwë Valar: OK, so options: Does anyone have a Tolkien topic to discuss or would we like to play a game instead?
[4:48 PM]Ungwetari: I have a topic I think, though it may be a bit of a short one.
[4:49 PM]Eönwë Valar: Short one is fine, so long as we don't mean "Asked and answered at the same time."
[4:49 PM]Ungwetari: Definitely not.
[4:50 PM]Eönwë Valar: Then go ahead, heh.
[4:50 PM]Ungwetari: What was the purpose of the Rangers of the North and in what way did their actions influence events leading up to, as well as after, the War of the Ring?
[4:51 PM]Ungwetari: Excluding Aragorn.
[4:52 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Basically doing their own bit to keep Arnor safe (including the Shire) and keep alive the memory of the house of kings there.
[4:52 PM]Eönwë Valar: To safeguard the lands of the former kingdom of Arnor would be their purpose.
[4:53 PM]Ungwetari: Hmhmmm. And wasn't it said that the vigil upon the Shire meant that its inhabitants were kept free of the shadow of war, even as it lengthened across the land?
[4:53 PM]Eönwë Valar: The Shire did get to have a relatively peaceful existence compared to some other portions of the world, aye.
[4:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: They weren't free from conflict, of course. Orcs and Wolves did invade a time or two.
[4:54 PM]Ungwetari: And it was only through Bilbo's slip to Gollum that the Dark Lord even learned its existence?
[4:54 PM]Ungwetari: Wasn't it Goblins though?
[4:54 PM]Ungwetari: From Gundabad?
[4:55 PM]Ungwetari: How Golf was invented too?
[4:55 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah yes
[4:55 PM]Eönwë Valar: Golf ---> Yes. Gundabad--> Not 100% off the top of my head, but that would've been a long way to travel to harass some Hobbits.
[4:57 PM]Eönwë Valar: Gundabad is in the northern area of the Hithaeglir (Misty Mountains), near where it joins the Ered Engrin, which would've formed the southern border of Angband were it closer to Beleriand.
[4:57 PM]Arien Valar: Isn t it more likely that they came through Eregion after the fall Moria and through the trollshaws?
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Still a bit of a way to the Shire.
[4:58 PM]Eönwë Valar: Eregion is much further south of Rivendell. The Trollshaws are north if memory of the map serves.
[4:59 PM]Eönwë Valar: Or I might be thinking of the Ettenmoors.
[4:59 PM]Arien Valar: or actually through .. whats the name where Tom Bombadil got the hobbits out of .. err i don t do names but you know .. the strory with the wight .. ah yes Barrow Hills?
[5:00 PM]Eönwë Valar: Ok glanced at a map, Trollshaws were west of Rivendell. I was thinking of the Ettenmoors.
[5:00 PM]Ungwetari: According to the Tolkien gateway, the Battle of the Greenfields in 27xx, while Moria fell in 1980.
[5:01 PM]Eönwë Valar: Barrow Downs.
[5:02 PM]Eönwë Valar: For fun:
Downland
Downland, chalkland, chalk downs or just downs are areas of open chalk hills, such as the North Downs. This term is used to describe the characteristic landscape in southern England where chalk is exposed at the surface. The name "downs" is derived from the Celtic word "dun", meaning "fort" or "fastness" (and by extension "fortified settlement",...
[5:02 PM]Eönwë Valar: I need to go afk for a moment.
[5:02 PM]Ungwetari: Could be they invaded from Evendim. At least in LotRO the region is infested with Goblins.
[5:03 PM]Ungwetari: Plenty hilly too.
[5:04 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Passing along the north, that makes sense. The battle was in the Northfarthing, too.
[5:08 PM]Ungwetari: Any other way?
[5:09 PM]Ungwetari: Like, what happened to the Rangers during the War of the Ring?
[5:09 PM]Ungwetari: We know they abandoned their vigil on the Shire, and that at least some of them rode South with Anduril reforged.
[5:10 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: That seemed a special occasion, though, not related to what might have let the goblins through
[5:11 PM]Ungwetari: Obviously not.
[5:12 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But yes, that's when they helped restore the king, and while it opened up the Shire to invasion by some meaner Big Folk, it ultimately led to a safer situation after Arnor was restored as part of the kingdom.
[5:13 PM]Arien Valar: hmmm i wonder whether the rangers actually were tracked and the enemy tried to get rid of them if you know what i mean .. counter espionage and assassination if you like . and raiding the landscape the orcs came through bit of a side way to make money if you get my meaning
[5:14 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: A seemingly defenseless farmland does make for a tempting raid target.
[5:14 PM]Arien Valar: yep
[5:16 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Boy, were they surprised by that hobbit who could ride a horse!
[5:17 PM]Arien Valar: I could imagine that
[5:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Back. Quick look at the Prologue doesn't say where the orcs came from that were fought in the Battle of Greenfields.
[5:19 PM]Ungwetari: Hahaha, smart move Eonwe.
[5:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: Think the story about Golf(imbul) was from the Hobbit, and I don't have that in front of me.
[5:20 PM]Arien Valar: well so all our theories are possible .. but yeah accidentally discovered seemingly unguarded farmland as a way of making a bit extra loot and having some fun on the way while tracking down the rangers seems possible
[5:21 PM]Arien Valar: or if the winter was really that hard maybe the orcs were driven by hunger to roam astray a bit further than normal and stumbled across the shire by accident
[5:21 PM]Eönwë Valar: It does mention wolves coming out of the North. Let's not forget Who would've been in the North in the First Age, so that entire northern mountain range populated by tribes of orcs isn't an unreasonable assumption.
[5:22 PM]Arien Valar: with welcome loot and provisions that they maybe needed
[5:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: First Age? Certainly Arnor took care of a lot of that, though they might have moved back in later.
[5:23 PM]Arien Valar: anyway .. i have a tempting raid target upstairs ...
[5:23 PM]Ungwetari: Yes, and Angmar has been a fort for the Enemey since the First Age.
[5:23 PM]Ungwetari: Your bed, or your hubby?
[5:24 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The mini-fridge!
[5:24 PM]Arien Valar: my bed
[5:24 PM]Arien Valar: hubby comes later
[5:25 PM]Arien Valar: i shall read your comments tomorrow
[5:25 PM]Arien Valar: have fun
[5:25 PM]Arien Valar: Namarie for now
[5:25 PM]Ungwetari: Namarie!
[5:26 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie! 5:26 PM]Eönwë Valar: Actually, this may be a good place to adjourn the meeting.
[5:27 PM]Eönwë Valar: I must soon be off.
[5:27 PM]Eönwë Valar: Raises gavel into the air.
[5:28 PM]Eönwë Valar: Bang
[5:28 PM]Eönwë Valar: Aftermeeting:
[5:30 PM]Eönwë Valar: Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun.
[5:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: namarie!
[5:36 PM]Ungwetari: Namarie!
[9:32 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya all! The last weekend of summer....Labor Day, 2024. My Sunday activities should now be returning to normal, since so many Sunday afternoon activities will now bne ending with the end of the summer....kids are back in school, and life returns to its normal pace. I am sorry I misssed today's meeting completely, I was busy hiking around Anthem Park (City and County of Broomfield, CO), and did not return home until the meeting was long over. Ar...are you still here? Hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead, full of health and happiness. Take care, Namarie, and sei gesund!
[9:38 PM]Sandalf13: Ah! Cretaceous chalks! The entire name of that geologic period, The Cretaceous, is derived from the Latin word "creta," meaning "chalk." So the South Downs of modern day England are made up of the stuff...a shallow sea deposits of calcareous microfossils, largely diatoms, and they are extensively exposed along the White Cliffs of Dover...I sailed by them in 1973 and stood in awe (sort of) of these outcrops as my ship slowly steamed by. Wow. Brings back a lot of good memories!
[9:39 PM]Sandalf13: Chalk is a soft, white, porous, sedimentary carbonate rock. It is a form of limestone composed of the mineral calcite and originally formed deep under the sea by the compression of microscopic plankton that had settled to the sea floor. Chalk is common throughout Western Europe, where deposits underlie parts of France, and steep cliffs are often seen where they meet the sea in places such as the Dover cliffs on the Kent coast of the English Channel. from Wikipedia
[9:41 PM]Sandalf13: Beach Head, East Sussex, showing the Belle Tout Lighthouse atop hundreds of feet of preerved diatoms...that's a lot of little critters, heh?
[9:41 PM]Sandalf13:
[9:41 PM]Sandalf13: Maybe tens of feet? Hard to tell from the picture.
[9:53 PM]Sandalf13: Sorry....Beachy Head...
[9:56 PM]Sandalf13: Chalk is a soft, white, porous, sedimentary carbonate rock. Chalk is common throughout Western Europe, where deposits underlie parts of France, and steep cliffs are often seen where they meet the sea in places such as the Dover cliffs on the Kent coast of the English Channel.
[10:10 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: That is a lot of creatures, and remember this is only what's exposed. Imagine an entire sea's worth of the stuff with that thickness, or even thicker.
[10:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Any case, I kinda napped for a few hours, just doing Warcraft Rumble for today and then I'll launch into the report
[10:57 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Perrrsonal gaming report!
[10:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, one of my favorite series came up in this week's badges. When it does, I can't help but play through it again and link it here
[10:59 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Unpuzzler is one in a small series of puzzle games, third one as I recall, where you have to pull a jigsaw piece formation apart one piece at a time.
[11:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: It starts simple as you look at interlocked sides, but there's a bunch of mechanics coming in throughout the game such as directional arrows, links, countdowns, and other stuff which can be quite boggling when combined
[11:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: All very relaxed, with smooth music, no timers, no way to make a wrong move and get yourself stuck, and just a lot of fun! (in my opinion)
[11:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And remember, if you like it, there's others in the series as well, with new mechanics!
[11:03 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh, there's 2 modes to play through as well, with or without all directional arrows. Mostly different puzzles too.
[11:05 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming:
[11:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: Level 74 on the reward track now. One more to get the last golden card from the track, then it's gold all the way.
[11:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: There's a new three-week quest event going, The Marin Resort's Treasure Hunt, with 3 main quests and a bunch of dailies, the main quest being themed around treasure and pirates.
[11:10 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Main quests are the bulk of the experience, but you do need a lot of dailies done to get to the end of the small track, though there's no unique skin at the end of this one, just packs. So if you miss it it's not a big loss.
[11:12 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Brawl is a Temporus Shift, build a standard deck and each turn you get a standard turn. Except the first turn, so you end up with a-b, b-a, a-b etc.
[11:13 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Being standard, a lot of the fun gimmicks for it are unavailable, so I made a basic murloc deck myself, which has been around in some form or another since the beginning as the little guys can swarm and buff each other, making good use of the double turn
[11:14 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble: Collection level to 42!
[11:16 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Dungeon went well this week! Got level 20 and 21 done with the blackrock leader Drakkisath, and got level 22 done with my undead leader Rivendare tonight
[11:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 22 is the last for the permanent upgrades, so he's got all golden slots now. You can do level 23 for gold once a week, but I'll just move to the next undead leader, Thalnos, and get some army slots for him! Starting again at 5 should be easy going for a while, though it does skip a few levels each time if you've got a high level advantage, which I do with all remaining leaders.
[11:20 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Not quite settled on the exact deck for Thalnos, but he levels with each spell you play, so I'm thinking of going for some cheap cycle spells and maybe some cheap-ish tanks or healers to keep him alive long enough to make use of it.
[11:26 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the heroic sigil campaign, defeated Branch Snapper with all families, and Maiev Shadowsong with alliance. At 108 sigils now.
[11:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For quality upgrades, got the Blizzard spell and the Harpies mini to uncommon. Had been waiting for that second one for a while, as they're quite versatile. Only 2 minis left to get to uncommon for their first talents now.
[11:28 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also got the talents for Smoke Bomb, as well as the above Blizzard and Harpies, leaving none waiting for their talent until those last 2 come in or I get something to rare
[11:30 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Also got between 3500 and 4000 gold these last few days, which is my goal to have in stock so I can buy any single thing that comes up, including straight epic upgrades. Now I can use buttons to randomize the grid again and buy whatever I see come up
[11:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Should also look at the rare-o-matic, a new item that can turn grid-slots to rare for one purchase. Seems to be available in Darkmoon Faire tracks, so that might be worth prioritizing at this point.
[11:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
[11:36 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: With new expansion underway, still no raiding this week; raids will come in soon but I'm taking a bit to level up so no raiding for me yet in any case.
[11:37 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Pre-patch event is now over, as expected I did not get the last 2 leather items, but that's fine. Who knows, maybe the event before the next expansion will drop the same recruit's gear again
[11:41 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I've not delved (hah, reference to new mini-game in this expansion) into the new expansion yet, as I still read about a lot of bugs being fixed and scripts/dialogues not working properly, and I always like waiting out the rush. Instead I've taken to my goblin alt mentioned last week. Didn't do much, as I've been kinda tired this week, and thus spent some time resting in front of the tv or napping.
[11:43 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Still, got Calsjona from level 12 to 16, blew up a massive robochicken, and then killed a large shark with a mecha-shark made from the remains of said chicken. Goblins, eh? She then kidnapped some naga babies to force a truce with a nearby naga settlement, took out the Old God minion that was leading them, and faced down an army of Pygmies that were turning goblins into zombies or feeding them to their turtle god Volcanoth.
[11:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Then blew up said fire turtle - blowing stuff up is what goblins are about - and caused his cave to collapse, also triggering a volcanic eruption around him that flooded a good part of the island. Seriously, when it comes to goblins, there's no such thing as overkill. And now she's been evacuated to a horde camp led by Thrall himself as she prepares to fight off a bit more alliance and then take on Trade Prince Gallywix in the last quest arc of the goblin starter experience.
[11:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Though this might also be a good point to pause in the questline and finally go into the expansion with my druid. But that's for next week!
[11:48 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And this was my report for the week
[11:56 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: namarie!
