5:00pm Eastern Time
Discord: Valar Guild/meeting_place
Attending (7): Anarion, Arien, Ar-Pharazon, Eonwe, Falco, Lenwe, Varda (presiding)
Topic: How did Valar and Maiar travel to Middle-earth?
Topic 2 from Anarion-(V): Was Gandalf one of those to leave Middle-earth on the last ships at the end of RotK? Or was that a movie thing?
[3:58 PM]Varda: Aiya : )
[3:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
[3:58 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya!
[4:00 PM]Varda: Phar and Sandalf! Yay!
[4:01 PM]Varda: @Bounder @Guild-friend Valar Guild meeting time! Come on in and say hi!
[4:01 PM]Varda: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
[4:01 PM]Varda: Membership:
[4:01 PM]Varda: Any membership news you folks would like to mention?
[4:01 PM]Falco: Aiya
[4:01 PM]Varda: Falco! Aiya : )
[4:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
[4:03 PM]Sandalf13: The hike today was on the Dakota Hogback, with a normally excellent view of the Front Range, but the trail to the overlook was CLOSED due to extreme mud conditions and numerous mountain lion sightings...so we had to hike the east side of the Hogback, and got some great shots of the Plainseastern CO, NE, KS, and so on....he he...I don't think we could see 200 miles from our vantage point!
[4:05 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Lions!
[4:05 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heya.
[4:05 PM]Varda: Muddy lions, heh
[4:05 PM]Varda: Aiya Eonwe : )
[4:06 PM]Sandalf13: Yes...mountain lions! They are protected, and have extended their recent range back into their ancesteral natural habitat: Front Range, Foothills, Great Plains of CO, WY, NE, and KS.
[4:06 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: They'll wait for you in the mud to ambush you.
[4:07 PM]Varda: More like they walk along behind you for a while, watching.
[4:07 PM]Sandalf13: No...they hang out in the trees and leap down on unsuspecting hikers...he he...and also hide in the sage brush to ambush unwary walkers...but they do prefer rabbits, ground hugs, and so on...
[4:07 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: hugs the ground
[4:08 PM]Varda: They do like their trees. We were more in brush, so they had to walk it, hah!
[4:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'd love ground hugs if I was a lion!
[4:08 PM]Sandalf13: The left picture is near the top of the gentle slope side of the Dakota Hogback, which is also visible in the distance. The next slide shows Nebraska (?) only 180 miles away...The right slide is a random shot of mountain lion territory.
[4:09 PM]Varda: (Side note: Falco just brought in two more of his characters to our Crickhollow kin branch, just this minute.)
[4:10 PM]Falco: 23 of 24... Not sure what the 24th will be...
[4:10 PM]Varda: Maybe a new type. They keep making more and some odd combos.
[4:11 PM]Falco: Yep. Leaning towards Warden.
[4:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Got bards yet?
[4:11 PM]Falco: Several Minis
[4:11 PM]Varda: They are called Minstrels : )
[4:12 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, great
[4:13 PM]Eönwë Valar: They may or may not wander.
[4:15 PM]Sandalf13: Wandering Minstrels have also been sighted on the Dakota Hogback at the Turkey Creek Canyon Renaissance Fair.
[4:15 PM]Varda: Wandering Minstrels!
[4:15 PM]Arien Valar: Aiya folks
[4:15 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
[4:15 PM]Varda: Ahh, RenFaire, fun. : )
[4:15 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya Arien!
[4:15 PM]Varda: Aiya Sunshine!
[4:15 PM]Arien Valar:
[4:15 PM]Varda: (and Falco is now on Angmar server in kin too!)
[4:16 PM]Varda: Take note, Leod. : )
[4:16 PM]Arien Valar: i am still not a member on my two
[4:16 PM]Sandalf13: That is my oldest daughter, a wandering minstrel at the Tuxedo, NY Renaissance Fair, back in 2007.
1[4:16 PM]Varda: oops, where do you need the inviter to hop to? Currently on Angmar about to leave
[4:17 PM]Varda: Pretty! And what a great outfit. That is a wonderful picture.
[4:17 PM]Varda: Almost hear lovely music looking at it.
[4:17 PM]Arien Valar: if you can wait for a sec i ll hop on for an invite
[4:17 PM]Sandalf13: Thank you. One of my favorites...she made a good salary wan dering around the Fair both Saturdays and SUndays during the summer...wish I got paid as well!
[4:17 PM]Varda: Sure! I'll pop back in on Fainan.
[@Varda
Pretty! And what a great outfit. That is a wonderful picture.
[4:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Agreed.
[4:20 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Does look midsummer
[4:20 PM]Sandalf13: Thank you. I miss her. She is a midwife in London, UK, and I hardly see her now.
[4:21 PM]Varda: They have Renfairs there too, but she might not have time. : (
[4:22 PM]Varda: Arien is now in kin on Angmar server. : )
2
[4:22 PM]Sandalf13: With a 14 year old and 10 year old son, she keeps pretty busy at home, when she is not working. Hard to keep up with that group, as you know.
[4:26 PM]Varda: For sure.
[4:28 PM]Varda: Arien is now in kin on the Mordor server. : )
[4:29 PM]Varda: Anyone else need a Mordor invitation? Walk right in. European server, VIP though.
[4:31 PM]Varda: She just added a second Mordorian. : )
[4:33 PM]Eönwë Valar: No one else is gonna do it? Really? Very well, I'll be your huckleberry.... Clears throat. "One does not simply walk into Mordor."
[4:33 PM]Varda: brb sorry rl
[4:33 PM]Falco: Nope we run in screaming!
[4:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Was thinking it, but I thought the "walk right in" was reference enough.
[4:34 PM]Falco: brb grandkids just arrived...
[4:34 PM]Varda: hehe
[4:34 PM]Varda: Back
[4:35 PM]Varda: Great, Falco!
[4:35 PM]Arien Valar: maybe we should take an eagle instead
[4:38 PM]Sandalf13: One does not simply walk into Mordor...

Back
[4:38 PM]Eönwë Valar: WB :}
[4:38 PM]Varda: That is a thought. How do the Valar and Maiar go to Middle-earth normally?
[4:38 PM]Varda: Thanks!
[4:39 PM]Varda: On to
[4:39 PM]Varda: Web:
[4:39 PM]Varda: Nothing new in content this week. Maybe next week?
[4:39 PM]Varda: Gaming!
[4:39 PM]Varda: You saw some gaming news live just now, with Falco and Arien!
[4:39 PM]Varda: Oh, and Varda put another character in Mordor server too.
[4:41 PM]Varda: finely crafted gavel slides on one "foot" to Eonwe, across a mile of our well-waxed table
[4:42 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I suspect they float along the aether.
[4:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: World of Warcraft:
[4:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: This week's bonus event: Legion Timewalking.
This week's PvP Brawl: Arathi Blizzard.
[4:43 PM]Eönwë Valar: There are only 8 days left for Mists of Pandaria Remix. If you haven't got everything you're trying to get, now is the time to finish up.
[4:44 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmm, timerunning raiding right now
[4:44 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: (why I'm a bit quiet)
[4:44 PM]Eönwë Valar: And wave goodbye to Lon'li Guju one last time
[4:45 PM]Eönwë Valar: I got him to follow me all the way to the Gates into the Vale of Eternal Blossoms one time.
[4:46 PM]Eönwë Valar: I got every achievement, purchased all the purchaseable collectibles from the vendors, and managed to solo every raid Blizzard didn't bolt down with a mechanic that prevented soloing, so I'm content with my accomplishments.
[4:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'm working on my last 25 achievements won't have enough bronze for all the stuff, will definitely focus on stuff that's remix only.
[4:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Are the raidsets new?
[4:48 PM]Eönwë Valar: Don't think so. All the remix-new stuff is labelled. I do know if you get it you get it for all your chars.
[4:48 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, good, will focus on labelled stuff.
[4:48 PM]Eönwë Valar: So the Paladin set you get in Remix can be worn by DKs and Warriors.
[4:49 PM]Eönwë Valar: *transmog
[4:49 PM]Eönwë Valar: Whether that holds true for the original sets I can't confirm.
[4:49 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well that should be fine when farming it in tww anyway.
[4:50 PM]Eönwë Valar: Check out This Week in WoW. --- The week
[4:51 PM]Eönwë Valar: A new cinematic is out about the Nerubians: Threads of Destiny. --- Threads of Destiny
[4:51 PM]Eönwë Valar: Speaking of the Arachnophobia filter, I notice that even though I turned it on, it doesn't seem to affect all my characters. Might need to confirm it on an individual character basis to get it to work.
[4:52 PM]Eönwë Valar: But it's funny to see some of my characters fight giant crabs where others are fighting giant spiders, heh.
[4:53 PM]Eönwë Valar: Update 11.0.2 comes out August 13th --- 11.0.2 Uddates
[4:53 PM]Eönwë Valar: Check out this week's hotfixes. --- Hotfixes
[4:53 PM]Varda: That would be bad when fighting Shelob. Turn her into a crab?
[4:54 PM]Sandalf13: I should point out that crabs and spiders are distantly related...
[4:54 PM]Eönwë Valar: YouTube - Mysterious Island | Giant Crab ATTACKS!
[4:55 PM]Eönwë Valar: And one last note: The Radiant Echoes event is still going. It's at least as good for levelling as MoP Remix is, and you can use existing characters. Good chance to work up alts.
[4:56 PM]Eönwë Valar: Hearthstone:
[4:56 PM]Arien Valar: yeah but a bit overrun imho .. still managed to do all three memory bosses
[4:56 PM]Eönwë Valar: Battlegrounds Season 8 is coming out August 20th. --- Battlegrounds Season 8: Trinkets & Travels
[4:57 PM]Eönwë Valar: Got two more chars to get to 70 with the Radiant Echoes event then I'll see how many memories I have to outfit them.
[4:57 PM]Varda: (Sandalf, aye, but they look different enough for an arachnophobe. Still, a crab Shelob?)
[4:57 PM]Sandalf13: Phylum Arthropoda consists of Sub-Phyllum Crustacea (crustaceans, crabs, lobsters, and so on) and the next Sub-Phylum over is Chelicerata: spiders, mites, scorpions, and so on.
[4:57 PM]Arien Valar: better a crab Shelob than a crap Shelob
[4:58 PM]Eönwë Valar: Patch 30.0.3 is out. --- Patch Notes
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Shecrab, obviously!
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Possibly Shecrust.
[4:58 PM]Sandalf13: Only one extinct Sub-Phylum of Arthropods: Sub-Phy Trilobita...everyone's favorite fossil.
[4:58 PM]Eönwë Valar: Diablo Immortal: The Overflowing Arsenal's Bounty event is going. --- Event notes
[4:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmm, they lasted a long time, though.
[4:59 PM]Sandalf13: A crabby Shelob? Wonder what she would be like...
[4:59 PM]Eönwë Valar: Diablo 2: Season 8 begins August 23rd. --- Resurrected Ladder Season 8
[4:59 PM]Eönwë Valar: And that concludes my gaming news. I return your attention to Varda.
[5:00 PM]Varda: Thank you, Eonwe : )
[5:00 PM]Varda: And now we know to flip the crab backwards into boilinig water. Got it.
[5:01 PM]Varda: Starcraft 2: Fangorn and Eowyn currently gaming together there. : )
[5:01 PM]Varda: Arien, go ahead
[5:01 PM]Arien Valar: Shelob did last kind of a long time .. if she was the last child of Ungoliant who was killed somewhere near the end of the first age . So she must have been hatched before that ..ss that makes what .. 6000 years at least?
[5:01 PM]Eönwë Valar: I haven't heard of the Fangorn expansion to Starcraft 2.
[5:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Heart of the Fangorn.
[5:02 PM]Varda: : )
[5:02 PM]Arien Valar: and we did not hear about her passing , so she might have still hung around in the fourth age even if a bit marode ~
[5:03 PM]Varda: I use the title Lady of Fangs
[5:03 PM]Varda: Arien, good point. She seems to have survived Sam but was injured.
[5:03 PM]Varda: (couldn't manage the apostophe though)
[@Varda
I use the title Lady of Fangs
[5:03 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heh. Fangorn shall henceforth be known as "Fangs".
[5:03 PM]Sandalf13: They are actually called chelicerata, hence the name of the Sub-Phylum. An equivalent of jaws. Nasty things, those.
[5:03 PM]Varda: : )
[5:04 PM]Varda: Nice job spelling, Sandalf!
[5:04 PM]Varda: But they don't have that title in LotRO. No Lady of Chelicerata! And it's a joke on being Fangorn's lady
[5:04 PM]Varda: In other news,
[5:05 PM]Eönwë Valar: I got it :}
[5:05 PM]Varda: You saw the latest join-ups of characters to the kin branches today.
[5:05 PM]Varda: Lord of the Rings Online:
[5:05 PM]Varda: The new Reward Track starts Aug 14, so grab your current rewards before then.
[5:05 PM]Arien Valar: Chellicarda ~ now thats a name for a new alt if you need one @:D
[5:05 PM]Varda: ohhh, hehe. Let Shelob take that one!
[5:06 PM]Arien Valar: she can have Chellicob ...
[5:06 PM]Varda: hah, this report is a bit longer right now. Here goes...

[5:06 PM]Varda: Any other gaming news?
[5:07 PM]Varda: Diablo IV played by Eowyn, Civilization by Shelob aka Ungwetari. Right now as we type. : )
[5:08 PM]Sandalf13: What about Shelcornonacob?
[5:08 PM]Varda: That could work. : )
[5:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Sounds a bit like my Warcraft alts. As long as I can prefix Cal to it, it'll do.
[5:08 PM]Varda: LJ on the front of all of Falco's characters. : )
[5:09 PM]Varda: Any other comments, requests?
[5:10 PM]Varda: On to
[5:10 PM]Varda: Tolkien!
[5:10 PM]Sandalf13:
[5:10 PM]Varda: The earlier question was how did Valar and Maiar travel to Middle-earth?
[5:11 PM]Varda: Eonwe gave a good answer.
[5:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Presumably fly.
[5:11 PM]Eönwë Valar: I did?
[5:12 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: We all float up here...
[5:12 PM]Anarion: I think it would greatly depend on the type of Maiar. A bunch of them were pretty corporeal
[5:12 PM]Anarion: I believe it was Ar-Pharazon that you were thinking of, Varda: meeting_place
[5:13 PM]Anarion: Also Aiya!
[5:13 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
[5:13 PM]Eönwë Valar: Heya Anarion.
[5:14 PM]Anarion: The wiki says that Maiar include Balgrogs and Wizards, I'm not sure those sort would be great at seafaring absent equipment.
[5:15 PM]Anarion: (I knew about wizards, balrogs were a surprise)
[5:15 PM]Eönwë Valar: Maiar and Valar wouldn't be bound by the same limitations of the body that other coporeal beings would.
[5:15 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Does it say how the Istari arrived? I think it was by sea.
[5:15 PM]Varda: I apologize, went back to dig it up. Phar said it:
[5:15 PM]Varda:
[4:42 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I suspect they float along the aether.
[5:15 PM]Eönwë Valar: The Istari came by boat as I recall. Given they arrived at the Havens it makes sense.
[5:15 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: There we go
[5:15 PM]Varda: Anarion! Aiya! And that's right. : )
[5:16 PM]Varda: Balrogs were a fire-spirit type of Maia, seduced by Melkor. Guess brains fried. Not strong minded like Arien.
[5:17 PM]Varda: The Istari arrived by boat. That was probably camouflage to appear more like humans.
[5:17 PM]Sandalf13: I think the answer is right in front of us, but we don't see it..
[image of an airplane with Air Valar written on the side
[5:17 PM]Varda: hahhaha! Nice, Sandalf.
[5:17 PM]Anarion: Nice!
[5:18 PM]Eönwë Valar: Fun fact: There are no coach seats on that flight.
[5:18 PM]Sandalf13: I suspect the Valar fly business class or better...
[5:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The Valar always mean business.
[5:18 PM]Varda: We know that when the Ainur first arrived in Arda, they dove out of the great outside into the area, only to find it without form yet. They had to make it from the design (blueprint?).
[5:19 PM]Arien Valar: They just need a Silver Tree painted as logo
[5:19 PM]Varda: : )
[5:19 PM]Varda: You folks are great. : )
[5:19 PM]Anarion: Was Gandalf one of those to leave Middle Earth on the last ships at the end of RotK? Or was that a movie thing?
[@Varda
We know that when the Ainur first arrived in Arda, they dove out of the great outside into the area, only to find it without form yet. They had to make it from the design (blueprint?).
[5:19 PM]Eönwë Valar: Their memory of a blueprint, even.
[5:19 PM]Varda: Gandalf left on a ship probably to be with Frodo. I doubt he really needed it.
[5:19 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Book too.
[5:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: No, Gandalf did really depart Middle-Earth at the end of the Third Age.
[5:20 PM]Eönwë Valar: His time was over. He was the enemy of Sauron, and Sauron was done.
[5:20 PM]Varda: Gandalf was traveling by ship with the other Ring-bearers to Valinor. An excusive club. Sam would have to come later.
[5:22 PM]Arien Valar: It was because the end of the age of the three was ended .. Their main purpose was to preserve the memory of the light of the trees under the shadow of the dark Lord and with the one ring destroyed and his power broken they were not needed any more
[5:23 PM]Varda: And the Three Rings no longer operated.
[@Varda
Gandalf left on a ship probably to be with Frodo. I doubt he really needed it.
[5:23 PM]Eönwë Valar: Don't forget Bilbo. Plus, it wouldn't have looked good if Gandalf levitated into the air and yelled "So long, suckers! See you in a few weeks!" As he zoomed off into the distance.
[5:23 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I like to imagine Sam arrived at the Havens, nobody was there, so he built a raft.
[5:24 PM]Varda: Right, Bilbo was there too.
[5:24 PM]Varda: And that is interesting. No "last ship" to Valinor, really. Maybe the last of the Cirdan-built grey ships.
[5:25 PM]Varda: Legolas built one, that he and Gimli took.
[5:25 PM]Sandalf13: Tolkien left it sort of "up in the air," no pun intended.
[5:25 PM]Arien Valar: I wondered that , Varda ^^ but yeah of course it was so , even if the dark Lord never touched the three , The one ring still dominated them .. one ring to rule them all
[5:25 PM]Anarion: A dwarf, to Valinor? Interesting
[5:25 PM]Sandalf13: No more so than a Hobbit, hmmm?
[5:25 PM]Anarion: Fair
[5:25 PM]Sandalf13: Or a Mortal, a la Tuor?
[5:25 PM]Varda: Sam. I wonder how he went? A special boat? His spirit going to Valinor after death as Men and Hobbits do but re-housed there for a time?
[5:26 PM]Sandalf13: I think Cirdan was still in the Havens when it was Sam's time to go....
[5:26 PM]Sandalf13: He might have built a super-small boat for Sam...
[5:26 PM]Varda: Hmm, maybe left a few boats behind?
[5:26 PM]Eönwë Valar: They used his teaching to make them. Makes one wonder if they could've escaped the One's destruction had Celebrimbor managed to conceive such an idea on his own.
[@Sandalf13
He might have built a super-small boat for Sam...
[5:27 PM]Eönwë Valar: Super-small boat? Or small super-boat?
[5:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Speedboat :)
[5:27 PM]Arien Valar: nah i bet he had crew with him .. remember that he never liked boats and only touched the oars once when they were in dire need of speed during their journey
[5:28 PM]Sandalf13: This keeps getting better..

Sam. I wonder how he went? A special boat? His spirit going to Valinor after death as Men and Hobbits do but re-housed there for a time?
[5:28 PM]Eönwë Valar: It would've been pointless to include Sam's going if he passed away in the fashion typical for mortals.
[5:29 PM]Varda: Aye. So maybe after Rosie's death, he went to the Grey Havens and rode out. Could have been pulled by swans? Or with slow elves helping man the sails?
[5:30 PM]Arien Valar: ((bah time flies when you 're having fun .. but it doesnt stop i fear :())
[5:30 PM]Sandalf13: I wrote a story about that once...it seems ages ago. My first contribution to the Valar Guild. [Note: Das Buch]
[5:30 PM]Eönwë Valar: One thing I'd keep in mind is that when we hear about "And this group of people went here" It doesn't mean they all did it at once. It could've happened over many years. The Numenorean migration was over a couple hundred years, the Elven migrations over hundreds if not thousands of years, etc. So don't assume that all Eldar checked out of Middle-Earth on New Year's Day FA1 .
[5:31 PM]Sandalf13: It is reported that Cirdan left fotr Valinor only after the death of King Elessar, Fourth Age, 120.
[5:31 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, so Sam was fine, then.
[5:31 PM]Varda: A quick
[5:32 PM]Varda: gavel hops onto the trampoline hammerpad
[5:32 PM]Varda: toing toing toing
[5:32 PM]Sandalf13: And I firmly believed that Tolkien wanted us to believe that there are still some Elves left in Middle-earth...if only we could open our eyes to see them.
[5:32 PM]Varda: After-meeting!
[5:32 PM]Lenwe: Aiya Valarites
[5:32 PM]Varda: Not all elves left, aye. But they became lesser.
[5:32 PM]Varda: Aiya Lenwe
[5:32 PM]Eönwë Valar: Maglor's probably still wandering some seashore singing songs of lament.
[5:32 PM]Varda: Welcome to free chat time.
[5:32 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya Lenwe!
[5:33 PM]Varda: Eonwe, aye.
[5:33 PM]Anarion: Does anyone know something about how the wife of Elu Thingol: Melian may have come to middle-earth?
[5:33 PM]Sandalf13: And don't forget: Eonwe had to have some way of getting his horses to Middle-earth as well. I am sure that he went hunting mounted...not on foot.
[5:34 PM]Arien Valar: they all wil remain .. in your heart and in your soul they 're always on your mind. These songs of Hobbits, Dwarves and Men and Elves. Now close your eyes. And you will see them too
[5:34 PM]Eönwë Valar: Oromë, not Eonwë.
[5:34 PM]Sandalf13: Ah...you are right, of course...I was only close.
[5:34 PM]Varda: Anarion, that's why I was wondering. There seem to have been a number of travels, likely many never came into the story.
[5:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Eh, I'm sure a valar can carry a horse on his back when flying through the air.
[5:34 PM]Eönwë Valar: YouTube - BLIND GUARDIAN - The Bard's Song (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
[5:35 PM]Anarion: I wonder how strict it was if even a Valar had to ship around horses or if he had some other method
[5:35 PM]Sandalf13: Maybe Osanwe?
[5:35 PM]Varda: Fly the horse in the palm of one's hand. : )
[5:35 PM]Eönwë Valar: YouTube - Quicksilver & Magneto Prison Break - "Whiplash" Scene | X-Men Days ...
[5:35 PM]Anarion: In general doing more wiki-browsing, it seems to me like we have some diversity of Maiar amoung us when it comes to travel in and around middle earth, with Pallando (wizard) being greatly different from Arien (guardian of the sun) in this regard.
[5:35 PM]Varda: Nahar may have flown himself?
[5:36 PM]Eönwë Valar: Maybe Nahar leapt the Belegaer.
[5:36 PM]Arien Valar: YouTube - BLIND GUARDIAN - The Bard's Song - In The Forest (Revisited)
[5:36 PM]Varda: Istari had much of their ability and even memory removed.

[5:40 PM]Varda: Was watching one of your videos, heh.
[5:41 PM]Varda: I'd guess flying was the normal thing, until it was taken away from all other than Manwe, Varda, and their Maiar.
[5:41 PM]Varda: That was to keep folks like Morgoth and Sauron grounded. No Air Valar for them.
[5:45 PM]Sandalf13: They probably could not have gotten through airport security, either.
[5:46 PM]Sandalf13: Difficult when wearing a metal helmet and crown as part of one's attire.
[5:46 PM]Sandalf13: Especially with spikes on it.
[5:46 PM]Sandalf13: Sort of like a Pickelgruber, eh?
[5:47 PM]Sandalf13: image
[5:47 PM]Sandalf13: Otto von Bismarck
[5:48 PM]Sandalf13: aka Pickelhaube
[5:48 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Put it in a suitcase?
[5:48 PM]Sandalf13: Could you imagine Morgoth simply putting his crown in a suitcase? I don't think so, he he.
[5:49 PM]Varda: : )
[5:50 PM]Sandalf13: And I suspect that given Sauron's diminishment in his ability to assume a physical form,, that his crown was inseparable from his "body."
[5:50 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Would it still register as metal?
[5:50 PM]Sandalf13: Wasn't it reported to be an iron crown?
[5:51 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Sauron's? Probably.
[5:52 PM]Varda: Morgoth wore the Iron Crown with silmarils.
[5:52 PM]Sandalf13: image of movie Sauron with spiked crown
[5:52 PM]Sandalf13: They were just a fancy ornament, heh?
[5:52 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well I assume they make allowances for people with metal plates in their head or something.
[5:52 PM]Varda: Bad hair day?
[5:52 PM]Sandalf13: IT was the hair spray...
[5:53 PM]Varda: Spike hair-do
[5:53 PM]Sandalf13: Maybe he was using Rogaine? Leaves the hair spiky and sticky, you know...
[5:54 PM]Sandalf13: Some folks just like spikes on their head... image
[5:54 PM]Sandalf13: Must be a Germanic thing...
[5:56 PM]Sandalf13: My hiking buddy (Eric Klein, speaking of Germanic...he he) and I are eating at a Chinese Buffet for dinner tonight to celecbrate our 7th straight week of mountain hiking. Will report back in later for Ar's report! Namarie, bis spaeter!
[5:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!
[5:59 PM]Varda: Namarie!
[7:55 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: There, finally made it over a million health with timerunner
[8:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming report!
[8:59 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: For (non)flashgaming, here's a unique one... it's rare that I see a game in the badges of the week that I haven't played at all yet, let alone one that's been around for 6 years already.
[9:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Play the Town With Only You and Me is an interactive fiction where you play an experimental AI, being tested by the AI maker's friend.
[9:02 PM]Varda: (Go go Falcon 9!)
[9:04 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The idea is to play through the locations to find all the bugs, while also reacting to the girl's memories and dialogue for each place. There's different endings and other small details to find as well.
[9:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming:
[9:09 PM]Sandalf13: Aiya Ar and Varda! I am here reading. Just got back from dinner with Eric Klein at the Chinese Buffet in Brighton. I pigged out on good food.
[9:10 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, I got some Chinese food myself this evening
[9:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: made it to level 52 on the reward track.
[9:12 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Level 50 is a random legendary, and I got a death knight minion, Eliza Goreblade. It doesn't look bad, but it has mixed runes, so doesn't really fit in any of my current decks as I have them with the same runes for now.
[9:13 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Finished the quest event for the new expansion, with the reward being a new skin for the Death Knight, Icecream Sai, a summery frost character
[9:14 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And I bought a new druid skin for 1000 gold, Cherry Blossom Lunara. A bit of a Japanese feel to it, I suppose, with the cherry blossom stuff
[9:15 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Certainly a bit of an anime face!
[9:17 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Shadow Reflection's the brawl for this week. Choose a class, make a deck of any size, the rest of the 30 slots are filled with Shadow Reflection which can copy the last card you play within the same turn.
[9:18 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I did win a game with a murloc deck, since you can just spam those, but otherwise I didn't really get a feel for how to best use the mechanic. I have seen some interesting decks where the same card was played up to 7 times in one turn and continuously buffing itself. So obviously some people get it
[9:20 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Warcraft Rumble: No new collection level, but I'm just a few upgrades away from the next one.
[9:20 PM]Sandalf13: Will you go after them this week?
[9:21 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I should, if they show up in the Grid where I can buy them for gold I have 2 minis that still need their talent, so that alone might be enough.
[9:21 PM]Sandalf13: Hope so!
[9:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: The Cenarion event is almost over now, and I made good use of it. I've gotten all the challenges I can reasonably get, with the remainders being heroic moonglade, arena honor, and mini upgrades at rare or higher. You just can't get those in such a short time without throwing actual money at it.
[9:24 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: But I did get all the achievements for surges, gold offers and Grid-purchases, dungeons, etc. And as a result I nearly emptied out the entire reward track, except for a tome or two, some stars for a mini that's already at rare anyway, and arc energy deposits, as I've got plenty of energy anyway. So yes, for me it's pretty much the best I could do in the past few weeks there.
[9:25 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: It was a fun event, giving me some variation from the usual daily activity, and I ended up with my Cenarius team being equal if not higher than the original 5 families. I like the playstyle as well, with a lot of sustained healing and basically creating a death ball to overwhelm the enemy
[9:26 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Cenarius is definitely one of my favorite leaders at this point.
[9:27 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the dungeons, haven't had much luck with the beast family at level 18, or the alliance one at level 20 for this week. They can be a bit annoying, but it's just a matter of time, as they'll level up eventually.
[9:29 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the heroic sigil campaign, got Geaulieu the sickly gazelle done with the last family, cleared Hezrul Bloodmark with all 5 families, and got started on Grom Hellscream, last fight in the Barrens zone. That puts me at 104 sigils now.
[9:31 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: As for quality upgrades and talents, I got a last few upgrades for the Cenarion minis, with the Earth and Moon spell upgraded to rare, and getting the second talents for Cenarius, Onu, and Earth and Moon.
[9:32 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Other than that I also upgraded the Execute spell, the Banshee mini, and the Smoke Bomb spell to uncommon, with the Banshee getting her talent as well.
[9:33 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So yes, hoping for a few more upgrades next week, but with the event done I'll probably just save up some gold again until a good boost comes along on the Grid
[9:33 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Hopefully including those talents!
[9:33 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
[9:34 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: No raiding yet with the main character and raidgroup, still a few weeks down the road. Did a lot of group content on the Timerunner though, which I'll bring up later.
[9:34 PM]Sandalf13: Any good music lately frimn WoW?
[9:35 PM]Sandalf13: I love their minimalist style....
[9:35 PM]Sandalf13: Very Phillip Glass....
[9:36 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Music, eh... well, I can name one of my favorite tracks which I hadn't heard for ages, until I started getting into the Landfall campaign and Theramore scenario with my timerunner, which gave me quite a few nostalgic shivers
[9:36 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: YouTube - WoW Patch 5.1: Landfall Music - Jaina Homeland worth a listen!
[9:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Weekly this week is timewalks (a different feature from timerunning) from the Legion expansion, kinda nice, but no upgrade from the reward. Not that I was expecting any this close to the new expansion.
[9:39 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Next week will be arena skirmish... but I'll probably skip it to spend more time on the two timelimited events which are also almost over.
[9:41 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: In the pre-patch event, I got enough memories to buy the heirloom ring, and then got enough to buy the Remembered Golden Gryphon mount, and I can confirm Eonwe's observation from last week that it also gives you the Remembered Wind Rider for your horde characters.
[9:42 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I also got the 3 pets: Remembered Spawn (a dragon whelpling), Remembered Construct, and Remembered Riverpaw (a gnoll). So that's the more expensive stuff gotten.
[9:44 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'll continue to gather the currency for the duration of the event, and hopefully getting some new appearances along the way. I read that if you have alts below 70, they can get different sets to drop, the Recruit sets originally available in the new starting zone, including 3 items that don't come from any other source now: a tome, and 2 shields (get one shield, other also unlocks).
[9:44 PM]Sandalf13: Good music, Ar! A nice recommendation. I have it playing in the background. I also just read a quick update on Wikipedia about Phillip Glass...he once attended a PDQ Bach concert by Peter Schickele in which Schickele mimicked Glass' style...it is report that Glass loved the work. He and Schickele were piano students at the Julliard together, back in the day.
[9:45 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So I brought in a few alts below 60 so I can stop their experience gain. Was originally planning on using the Demon Hunter, but it's difficult for her to survive the fights with little self-healing, so instead I only used her at the Searing Gorge location until I had collected all 15 Green Hills of Stranglethorn pages from one of the mini-echoes there. Good for nostalgia
[9:46 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And for the other locations - and after finishing the collection, all 3 locations - I'm using my horde main, the druid Calkin, because he's got some self-healing going. He's picked up some leather recruit's appearances, but no tome yet. Should I get the tome, I'll switch to using a warrior and hopefully get the shields out of it as well.
[9:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Still doing each zone once a day, for one boss-rotation (usually takes about 15 minutes), but will probably pick up the pace after the Timerunning event is done.
[9:47 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Because that's where I spent most of my time!
[9:48 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Not even watching any recorded tv shows, as I'm spending entire evenings and late afternoons in there. Feels like crunch time After all, only about 9 days to go.
[9:50 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And my timerunner Calvirona has accomplished many things already!
[9:50 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Continuing in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, she's gotten the Golden Lotus reputation to exalted through dailies.
[9:51 PM]Sandalf13: Go for it, Calvirona! BTW, I thought of a neat way to say Namarie to Varda...how about Vamarie! ??
[9:51 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Klaxxi and August Celestial reputations are still honored, since I can only get reputation from them from lower-rep dailies and charms, which I'm collecting until the end so I know where to spend em so I can get everything to exalted. Hopefully.
[9:51 PM]Sandalf13: Varmarie?
[9:51 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Heh, Vamarie works I've sometimes said Namarien to Arien.
[9:52 PM]Sandalf13: Wow...we are on the same wavelength.
[9:52 PM]Sandalf13: Wow...he he.
[9:53 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: 'virona then did a bunch of normal dungeons tied to the Vale, as well as the raid, Terrace of Eternal Spring. With the Vale meta achievement complete, got a new mount, the Astral Emperor's Serpent
[9:54 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: After that, she did the entire Landfall Campaign. Thankfully the reputation bug had been fixed for that one, and she could basically go through the whole thing in one go. Well, it took me two nights, but no reputation-grinding necessary
[9:56 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And indeed, that got me to exalted with Operation: Shieldwall as well, giving me the Landfall meta achievement, unlocking the Class Ensembles for purchase. (edited)
[9:56 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: She then went straight on to the Isle of Thunder campaign, doing all the quests in one night, unlocking the Class Arsenals as well.
[9:57 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Oh, and she's gotten the rare enemy achievements for both Landfall and Isle of Thunder, even though they were no longer needed for the meta achievements, as I'm still trying to get all 147 Timerunning achievements before the end
[9:58 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: She's also fought Nalak and Oondasta, two worldbosses related to the Isle of Thunder, and then completed the Throne of Thunder raid in the raidfinder, getting all group content done for that chapter.
[10:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: She also started the Kirin Tor Offensive reputation there, but alas, that also requires daily quests and/or charms, so I'm doing all the dailies there every day as well. Luckily it they give a good chunk of rep and up to 30 charms a day.
[10:00 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Next up, Calvirona went for the Timeless Isle!
[10:01 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Not only doing the starter quests there to get started on the Shaohao reputation, but also fighting all 4 Celestials in the arena, and defeating Ordos up in his temple.
[10:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: That gave the Timeless Isle meta achievement, giving a new pet as reward: the Astral Emperor's Serpentling, the pet version of the earlier mentioned mount.
[10:02 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: She then proceeded to explore the island, getting the achievements for 3 treasures, 3 elusive foes and 3 powerful enemies.
[10:04 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And then... it was all over except for group content and reputation. So she completed the Escalation achievement by going through the related scenarios and the Siege of Orgrimmar raid in the Raidfinder, while grinding the Shaohao reputation to exalted in a few hours, between raid queues.
[10:05 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: One of the scenarios is Theramore's Fall, which unfortunately did not unlock the mana bomb toy for her as she's alliance. Frankly, if I manage one thing with my second timerunner, Callyvoss, it'll have to be doing that scenario for himself to be able to buy the toy.
[10:06 PM]Sandalf13: Do you get to name your characters?
[10:06 PM]Sandalf13: Calvirona and Callyvoss sound pretty good to me...
[10:07 PM]Sandalf13: Calvirona sounds like a suburb of LA.
[10:07 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I do Like mentioned earlier in the meeting, I tend to prefix all my characters with Cal-, as in Tar-Calion
[10:07 PM]Sandalf13: Maybe Callyvoss is where the Valley Girls come from, he he.
[10:08 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: My main started out as Calaron, a mix of Calion and Pharazon, and the tradition just started there: Cal- with the rest themed after the character somehow.
[10:09 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Calvirona is a worgen, wolf-woman, with a bit of a Shakespearean noble vibe: like my other worgen Calvorgius the term "Carnivore" is a major influence, but Verona is also in there, I like to have layers
[10:10 PM]Sandalf13: Layering such things is a subtle art indeed...good for you. You are a genuine sophisticate, and I mean that as a compliment.
[10:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Callyfozz - sorry, misspelled him earlier - is a bit of a tribute to a WoW friend who starts all his names with Fuzzy (almost named him Callyfuzz but it was a bit too much) but it's also a fox-person, so it's a bit of a mix between fuzz and fox, while also remembering that the Dutch name for fox is vos.
[10:11 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Which is why I misspelled it earlier in the report
[10:11 PM]Sandalf13: Not a problem at all...
[10:13 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So many more alt-names I'm happy with... my Kul Tiran big druid man was based on Barliman Butterbur, so I named him Calimbar, my pandaren monk is called Calfusius, my cyborg gnome is Calectronica... it's quite a varied group that's gotten together over the years!
[10:14 PM]Sandalf13: I wonder how you manage to keep them all straight!
[10:14 PM]Sandalf13: Calfusius is too much...
[10:14 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Well, considering how I named them, it's pretty easy to keep the link in mind
[10:15 PM]Sandalf13: Here is one for you to use if you ever need a name for a hard character....Calcarborundum
[10:15 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Anyway, more group content: Calvirona unlocked her second trinket slot with the Escalation scenarios, then got her first ring slot by doing all scenarios on heroic difficulty, and then dove into dungeons and raids.
[10:16 PM]Varda: (Have to get some sleep. Will read later!)
[10:16 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Heh, that might work! Actually, the upcoming expansion has you unlock the Earthen race, a stone variation of dwarves.
[10:16 PM]Sandalf13: Vamarie!
[10:16 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Vamarie
[10:17 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Though if you look up a bit in the screenshots channel, you can already see my design for a blue-colored bearded lady of that race called Calsaffra, with sapphire skin and saffron hair
[10:17 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: I'll keep your suggestion in mind if I ever make a male one!
[10:18 PM]Sandalf13: Thanks!
[10:20 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Anyway, that's the last thing Calvirona has been working on... she's done Throne of Thunder and Siege of Orgrimmar raids on normal difficulty, and 8 out of 9 dungeons on heroic difficulty. Tomorrow she'll do the ninth - thought I might as well save one since you get rewards for your first one a day - and try to do the other 3 raids on normal as well.
[10:21 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And then it's time for heroic raids, getting the last bits of reputation, getting a few specific things done with Callyfozz, and buying all the cosmetics I want before this event is over too!
[10:21 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So that's my report for this week
[10:21 PM]Sandalf13: Good luck and Namarie...I do not know how you manage to stay up so late, but this old codger needs to get to bed so I can wake up at 0500 tomorrow, as usual for a weekday. Sei gesund, Namarie, and take care of yourself! Great Timing! Great Report! Have a wonderful week!!!!!!!
[10:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Heh, it's past 5 here already! I'll just get up a bit later tomorrow Was just busy with timerunning stuff!
[10:22 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: There's that crunch time again
[10:22 PM]Sandalf13: Oy Weh...and I mean it!
[10:23 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: So, namarie, good luck getting some sleep
[10:23 PM]Sandalf13: Thanks, and YOU TOO!!!!
[10:23 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Calvirona (Argent Dawn) Innovation - 70 Worgen Feral Druid, 302 ilvl and Callyfozz (Argent Dawn) Innovation - 11 Vulpera Marksmanship Hunter, 17 ilvl if you're curious!
[10:24 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: And namarie from me as well, soon sleepy time.
August 13, 2024
[2:25 AM]Eönwë Valar: World of Warcraft Remix: Mists of Pandaria Ends Soon"It won't be long before the infinite dragonflight closes the way to Pandaria and the Remix experience. There's still time to make one last foray, spend your hard-earned Bronze, and get ready for your character to convert to a standard World of Warcraft character at the end of the event."
[2:27 AM]Eönwë Valar: You know, I can deal with the gear downgrade, but taking away my 36-slot bags is low.
[2:28 AM]Eönwë Valar: Not even giving us 34-slot bags, which would be the highest craftable bag in the game currently? For shame.
[12:06 PM]Ar-Pharazon-V: Gotta have room to improve!
Thus ends this week's meeting. Come back and see us next week!
