Eonwë Valar — 11/16/2023 7:25 PM
Don't miss your shot at the mount Doomwalker drops.
Eonwë Valar — 11/16/2023 7:37 PM
Hmm, looks like I'm 6 mounts away from 400.
Eonwë Valar — 11/16/2023 7:51 PM
Lol. 4 anniversary bosses fought on the first day, extremely lucky
in that I got loot from all four. That said, it was 3 cloaks and a
sword :}

@Eonwë Valar
WoW 19th Anniversary celebration going.
Pengolodh — 11/17/2023 10:17 AM
I went to the Halls of Time.. or whatever its called.. and i
has quests there, but I am too underlevel'd to do any of them
So, I get the feeling the 19th Anni is not meant to for new comers
lol
Eonwë Valar — 11/17/2023 12:44 PM
The ones there that are specific to the Anniversary should be doable
by most. The Trivia question for some easy exp should be one of
them. You might need a few more levels for Doomwalker (a raid boss,
but during busy hours there's bound to be people fighting him so
jumping in on it shouldn't be difficult.) "The Originals" you
might need some more levels for because that has you going all over
the world to fight 3 raid bosses. The last is a PvP quest, so it
should be doable, if you care to go into a battleground. I did it
one year and haven't really cared to do it since, personally.
But don't forget to check your mail and use the item you get that
boosts your exp/rep gains by 19% first.
[12:45 PM]
The trivia question is a daily, easy exp. The others are weeklies.
Nice chunk of exp from them though.

Eonwë Valar — 11/18/2023 7:12 AM
You know, I don't know what the point of the Waygate system in
Dragonflight is other than busywork.
1.) 75% of the time I don't remember that there is such a system,
the other 25% I doubt I have the area unlocked anyway.
2.) You can only use it once per hour, so it's not a particularly
convenient "convenience."
3.) So far as I can tell, there's no way to track the gates on the
zone map, so I can't do a quick check of what I have and if it's
near enough to want to use it.
4.) You can't use one until you've found it and activated it.
5.) You can only unlock one per day.
They're like a worse version of flightpaths.

to Eowyn and Fangorn, not to draw attention
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
The Waves! A great topic! The waves that carried Elendil et al to
Middle-earth! The waves that accompanied Ulmo as he addressed Tuor
on the shores of the Great Sea! The Waves!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:25 PM
Let's literally discuss wave functions
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:25 PM
The waves that destroyed Numenor! I could go on, but I won't.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
I think that was more our island keeling over, but sure, waves were
part of it.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:26 PM
Ulmo can appear as a great wave.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:26 PM

The water of Cuivienen where the elves awoke.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Is this really our topic, although I would not be surprised if I
misread Ar's "waves," mistaking it for a topic of discussion, rather
than a literal wave to Eowyn and Fangorn. Sorry!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
It was a literal wave to Eowyn and Fangorn
Varda — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
But that gave us a topic. : )
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Silly me, of course...but still, it was an interesting exchange of
thoughts, nicht wahr?
Varda — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
We do that sort of thing, a stray word sets off the beauty of many
words.
It became our topic. : )

We are allowed more than one topic or tangent. If you have more,
feel free to bring them up!
[4:37 PM]
How about a quick: What did Aragorn do after the War of the Ring as
High King?
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
One of this first jobs was to dispense justice and reward those
deserving of it from the battles of the Pelennor and before the
Morannon...I am thinking in particular of King Elessar's judgment of
Beregond.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Clean up the mean streets of Gondor.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Well, they had a few battles fo fight against the remaining enemies
of the West, but that was long after Aragorn was wedded to Arwen,
and Faramir to Eowyn, and Eomer to Imrahil's daughter...

[4:52 PM]
Here's one: why did Tom Bombadil live in Eriador, in the Northwest
of Middle-Earth, when there was so much more earth to roam?
Varda — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Goldberry was there. : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Good point
Varda — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
She seemed to need to be in just one place.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
Close to her mother.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
I still believe that Tom and Goldberry may be far more important
than they appear in the LoTR. I still think that both of them are
very high-ranking Maia, if not possibly Tulkas and his spouse...
Sent by the Valar to keep an immediate eye on things in good old
Middle-earth.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Fine, I'll let you in on a secret.
leans close
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Did not Tolkien himself say that Goldberry is the River Daughter?
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Tom Bombadil.....
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
is a merry fellow
Varda — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
River-woman's daughter.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
And who is the Father of Waters?
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Is Tolkien. Yep. he and his wife retired to Middle-Earth where they
live happily in the Old Forest keeping Old Man Willow from causing a
ruckus.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Father of Waters would be Ulmo.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Did Ulmo have some side-affairs not mentioned in the Legendarium?
(My question was rhetorical, course)
Varda — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Ainur were seen as having certain relationships, such as being
brothers, without a mother and father let alone the same ones.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
As someone who's read the Tales of Tom recently, he met Goldberry in
the river alongside meeting her mother, I believe
Varda — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Maiar worked with the Valar of their choice, sometimes more than
one. (Gandalf did that.)
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
Without being salacious, I suspect that Tom and Goldberry have some
pretty significant connections to the Valar themselves.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
So if her mother was a Maia, Goldberry might also be half elf or
something.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
We could just go with the answer that Tom is meant to be an enigma,
in the same way Tolkien referred to "creatures that gnaw at the
roots of the mountains" and such. (edited)
Varda — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Tom was likely an Ainu. How did a River-woman (Maia of Ulmo?) have a
daughter is a good question. (edited)
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Or the big mountain giants throwing rocks around, which did show up
in the Hobbit movie.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Indeed. I always imagined that Tom and Goldberry would sail with the
FINAL voyage of the Elves leaving Middle-earth.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:02 PM
Big mountain giants, something in the realm of ents for Yavanna?
Like mountain-giants for Aule?
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
They surely are not around now, when we need them the most...
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Bombadil? You don't know that, he wouldn't leave his forest
Varda — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Tom and Goldberry had to do with the natural things of Arda. Sound
as if they would be along with Yavanna, maybe Maiar. Some Maiar were
nearly the same power as the Valar.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Or maybe Tom's and Goldberry's bounds would become something only
slightly removed from the mundane world, where one might still
stumble into it if they're fortunate.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Sounds good to me, Varda...
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:03 PM
Like hobbits, Eonwe?
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
Well, if this is supposed to be a mythology for England, consider
all the folklore of mortals stumbling into the "world of faerie."
Varda — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Since Tom and Goldberry even then remained in one place, I agree
that Eonwe has a good point for where they might be now.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:05 PM
Yes...have you every thought about the recurring stories in English
literature, many of them written for children, that relate tales of
the little people? The Irish have some too, of course...don't know
about the Scots.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
Just like one might if they're "lucky" stumble upon the Straight Way
and see the shores of Aman before they die, there may still be
pockets where the denizens of the Elder Days still live among the
peoples of the Fifth Age and on. (edited)
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
E.g., "The Borrowers"
The Borrowers is a children's fantasy novel by the
English author Mary Norton, published by Dent in 1952. It features
a family of tiny people who live secretly in the walls and floors
of an English house and "borrow" from the big people in order to
survive.

Pixies, brownies, scandinavian equivalents...

Varda — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Faery is a major thing all over the world under various names.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
There might still be Maiar living in the Middle-Earth of the later
ages, but just like Melian they have set a "Girdle of Enchantment"
about their abodes such that those who stumble upon it are either
lost or find them going out when they thought they were going in,
and only those with some fate within find their ways through the
mists and fog.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
Tom may have one of some type, for the earlier question. Neat idea.
(edited)
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
I always enjoyed readint Tolkien's accounts or mentions of mariners
at sea...I have quoted some of them here before...but mariners in
particular are sometimes "blessed" with a vision of the world beyond
the reality of the world as we see it. Many times at sea, on a foggy
morning, one could sense something "out there," that was beyond
mortal ken, or at least it was, for me.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
Aye, I think Tom could have such a thing around his house. He is the
Master, after all :}
Varda — Yesterday at 5:12 PM
So you would know Earendil the Mariner quite well. : )

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
And I too must bid a fond Namarie, until later, as always. I
apologize for waxing too poetic this evening...I had a busy time
this afternoon sorting through two boxes of very old papers that
contained my very first writings in geology, while a Freshman at
Lafayette, as well as other very old papers...brought back lots of
memories, good and bad, but mostly good.
Varda — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Namarie : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Namarie
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
Sei gesunt, till later!
Pallando-Valar — Yesterday at 5:31 PM
So I will give a belated gaming report for eve.
[5:35 PM]
Eve Online: Havoc has released, bringing with it Pirate
Insurgencies. With the first week nearly over, we've seen the angel
Cartel absolutely dominate in their warzone, very quickly taking
over the 7 systems needed to secure their victory. The Guristas are
being a bit slower and more methodical, deliberately extending the
size so as to affect more highsec system. They've also faced stiffer
resistance, and have less players, so it's a little hard to compare,
but they'll be hitting their 7 as well shortly.
[5:37 PM]
My personal analysis is that somewhere in here is possibly a pretty
good system, but there's a lot of work to be done to make it work
right, and I think some of that work is to other systems. We'll see
how it pans out over the next few insurgencies as the "new and
shiny" effect dies down and it becomes another part of the overall
ecosystem.
Varda — Yesterday at 7:02 PM
Here's hoping it all comes out well. : )
Thank you, Pallando!
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 7:02 PM
Aiya!
Varda — Yesterday at 7:02 PM
Aiya Sandy : )
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 7:03 PM
How are yoiu tonight?
Comfortably ensconsed at home, I hope.
Varda — Yesterday at 7:03 PM
yes! All traveled out for the nonce. : )
[7:04 PM]
Going to go jump into LotRO and chat here at the same time, just
because!
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 7:04 PM
Just because is an EXCELLENT reason. I am glad you are snuggled in
for the night...it is getting cold and windy outside here...I am in
for the evening.
Varda — Yesterday at 7:06 PM
Nice : )
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:58 PM
Personal gaming report!
[9:00 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, a new game/badge this week.
[9:02 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/xWILKINx/dinogen-online
is a topview shooter/survival game, with both humans and dinosaurs.
Main mode is multiplayer, but you can always play with bots if you
want.
Kongregate
Dinogen Online
Fast-paced 2D multiplayer top-down shooter with
plenty of weapons, game modes, and maps. Play as a human or dinosaur
in objective-based game modes, unlock new...
[9:02 PM]
Lots of weapons, levels/ranks, upgrades both in general and within
the matches.
[9:03 PM]
And probably lots more I've not even seen yet
So if you enjoy dino-themed shooters, go for it!
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:03 PM
Aiya Ar!!!!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:03 PM
Aiya!
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:08 PM
How was your break from the Guild meeting? Did you watch a movie, or
play a game?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:09 PM
Played a bit of Warcraft Rumble, then watched half a movie
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:09 PM
Hope it was a good one!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:09 PM
Then wanted to come back to the pc but ended up changing the
channels and watching one and a half episode of Star Trek:
Enterprise.
[9:10 PM]
Well, only halfway, but it's pretty funny so far About seniors
in high schools randomly exploding.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:12 PM
You ought to contact my oldest daughter sometime...she lives in St.
Albans, London, with her husband and two boys (one is 13, the other
is 9). She is a midwife, and met her husband through LoTR. Elicia
("Ali") was very active in the LoTR movies fanbase, and was invited
to all of the Oscar parties for the three movies...she got to meet
all of the actors/actresses in the movies, plus Peter Jackson. Her
online name is Luthien...so she is one of the earliest Luthien's in
the old LoTR "Barliman's" website for the movie support. London is
not that far from you.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:13 PM
Hmm, maybe, but I haven't been there in 24 years Not much of a
traveller. Arien's British, though, so she might want to visit.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:14 PM
You are right... I will have to tell Arien someday. I suppose she
does get to London more often than you do.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:15 PM
Probably? I think she might be more near Scotland, but I think
British are more used to longer distance travel. Not as much as you
Americans, but still
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:16 PM
Hey...I think nothing of jumping in the car to drive to
Lincoln to see my nearest grandkids....464 miles, only 6 hours at 80
mph on pretty empty roads...an easy trip. I am driving to New York
in mid-December.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:17 PM
Heh, enjoy
Longest we've travelled by car was 1100 km to the south of France
for a holiday, and that was pleeeenty long. And even longer time ago
than London.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:17 PM
Yes...Arien is in Scotland. But Nebraska alone is about 2/3 the size
of Germany...Colorado is even bigger than Nebraska. By my standards,
Scotland is just about next door to London.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:17 PM
Since then we've been staying in-country, at 90 minutes away or so
at most.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:18 PM
I am glad that you can take such lovely trips, even though they are
infrequent. I hope you can get out more!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:19 PM
Eh, don't really feel a need to
[9:19 PM]
Well, back to gaming!
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:19 PM
Go for it!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:19 PM
Blizzard gaming:
[9:21 PM]
Hearthstone:
New expansion has started, with a new reward track. As always, the
first few levels don't take much experience, so I got to level 30.
[9:22 PM]
This got me a bunch of gold cards from the new set, including some
with the new keywords, so that's useful if I need them for daily
quests.
[9:23 PM]
It also came with a new card back, a fixed legendary (Sheriff
Barrelbrim) and a random legendary.
[9:24 PM]
I also got a new death knight skin for reaching 1400 total reward
track levels, Thassarian Arthas. It looks pretty impressive, so
using it for now over the default death knight
[9:25 PM]
Speaking of, death knight also got to level 36.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:26 PM
Brawl is Badlands Recipe: Class decks from the new Badlands
expansion. Had some good luck with the death knight myself, with
some good unholy minion-summoning, but also some powerful cards like
the death knight Titan. Worth a try!
[9:28 PM]
Warcraft Rumble: Now level 17 overall. Got all the minis in the
collection, or 53/54 at least since the last one isn't for sale, but
will be gotten from the final boss, a long way away
[9:29 PM]
So now it's time to bring them all up to uncommon rarity!
[9:30 PM]
This week's based around the Undead family, with Gnomeregan as the
dungeon and only undead leaders for sale in the grid. And indeed, I
bought Baron Rivendare from it. Supposedly the best undead leader,
even better than Sylvanas, with passive skeletons spawning from all
your bases/towers! So been playing around with him a bit.
[9:32 PM]
Hitting a bit of a wall in the sigil campaign, but did finish
Thousand Needles. I'd like a few more mini levels before I tackle
Tirisfal Glades.
Dungeon also not going too well, haven't the dungeons for either
Blackrock or Undead. But I'm sure that'll change with a few levels,
and I am questing to level everything up
[9:33 PM]
PvP, on the other hand, is going a bit more decently now that I'm
focusing on Rivendare and Tirion there.
Still a long way to go, but making steady progress!
WoW:
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:33 PM
Good for you! Keep it up!
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:35 PM
We've started raiding again, in the new raid, Amirdrassil! On
normal, got 7 out of 8 bosses down, with our best shot at the final
boss being 19% health. Also several raid quests progressing along
the way, and I even got my first pieces of loot: A great tank
trinket, my first tier-piece (hat) and a feather that unlocks firey
moonkin form in the barbershop.
So it's a good start
[9:36 PM]
Weekly is battlegrounds, and with 2 brawls being up, that was 2 out
of 4 wins already. Didn't take me long to finish it up.
[9:37 PM]
Got all my trading post points filled up for this month, and bought
the Foam Sword Rack toy, as well as the monk class weapon
appearances. My brewmaster's rocking the new brew staff, and I'm
sure my future windwalker vulpera will enjoy the fan hand weapon
[9:38 PM]
And then I had just enough points left, unexpectedly, to buy the
Sinister Fel Staff, based on Gul'dan's staff, for my affliction
warlock. Fits her nicely
Also, anniversary's going! The mail gives a free new pet, Lil'
Frostwing, an ice version of Lil' Deathwing.
[9:39 PM]
And the worldbosses are up again as well, and your first Doomwalker
kill gives a guaranteed mount, the Azure Worldchiller. Again, an icy
version of Deathwing
[9:41 PM]
I logged every last one of my alts to get the anniversary
achievement and timewarped badges, nice to see em all again
And using 2 alts, the mage and the evoker, to hunt the worldbosses
every day, for missing cloth and mail appearances from them.
No new mail appearances yet, but the mage got her final cloth piece
from Kazzak, and a belt from Ysondre. All that's left for her is the
daily green dragon, whichever it happens to be.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:42 PM
The mage also finished the Accuser questline in Revendreth, nearing
the turning point of the Revendreth campaign.
[9:43 PM]
And then I logged back into my goblin warrior Calsjona, continuing
the Kezan quests, including hosting a large party, and fighting off
pirates that tried to crash it. Next up she'll need to come up with
a lot of money to get off the island before it explodes. Almost done
with this section of the starting experience!
And she got to level 6 along the way, so that's nice
[9:44 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
Namarie
