Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:18 PM
Varda is at Comicpalooza, which was this weekend, so we can either
hope she's having fun, or demand that she's having fun. Which do you
all want to do? :}
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 4:18 PM
Demand!
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:18 PM
OK, so one vote for demand. Any others?
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:19 PM
Hey, if she doesn't want to have fun, that's up to her.
So let's just politely request that she's having fun.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:19 PM
Ok, so one vote for demand, one for request. Arien?
[4:20 PM]
Keep in mind Bilbo, Sauron, and Fangorn went with her, so this
applies to them as well. Now wouldn't you want to demand to see the
Dark Lord going "wheeeeeee!" ? :}
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 4:21 PM
we demand that she has fun with hope
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 4:21 PM
Of course, we can demand or request as much as we would like to, but
I think, in the end, Varda will have fun regardless.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:22 PM
So one vote for demand, one for request, one for demand
hopefully. Well after these three answers there's only one
vote I can make.
I vote "pizza".
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 4:22 PM
That is the best one yet!

requires a reforge to get it, so don't forget to swing by someone

Interesting, basalt has a lower melting point than Granite, because
it contains a much larger metal component, that melts at lower
temperatures than the silicates. Gold would have no trouble melting
in such an environment, however, but simple quartz might.

There's a promotional event going for Diablo 4 until June

you a chance at many items, including a 36-slot bag and Tyreal's
Charger. Check out the announcement for more info. ---

Greedy Emissary Ev...
Strange winds blow in from another world, and
sightings of odd, bag-holding creatures spot the land. Find them and
see what treasure they may hold.
[4:35 PM]
First treasure goblin kill of the day on an account is supposed to
have a greater chance of yielding the bag or the charger. So far no
luck and I'm probably going to cut down my attempts because 30
minutes is just a crazy timer to try and keep up with on a spawn for
a long time, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:36 PM
Hmhm, on the first day I would kill a goblin, then play alt for
about 20 minutes, and then take main to the next spot, it's annoying
[4:37 PM]
But after I read about the increased chance... I'm only killing it
once a day now.
Got nearly all the other items on the first day anyway.
Oh, and because of the bag, if you have it on your main, I recommend
getting the first kill of the day on an alt that lacks it.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:37 PM
It cycles Stormwind/Orgimmar on opposite tops of the hour, and
Dragon Isles at the bottom of the hour.
[4:38 PM]
I got the bag on an alt so you can imagine my consternation, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:38 PM
Heh.
Well, still a few weeks to go
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:39 PM
If I got the bag on my main, I would just park alts in different
areas and at the top/bottom of the hour flip to the right one to
cover where the goblin is. (edited)
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:39 PM
So yeah, I'm only killing it once a day now, with an alt who hasn't
been to Dragon Isles yet, so she's just doing Stormwind.
Makes for easy timekeeping, since it's SW every even hour
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:39 PM
Aye :}
[4:40 PM]
I've got a Horde alt too, so I get to pop into Orgrimmar on the odd
hours.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:40 PM
Well, sure, but make sure your first kill of the day is on a
character you want the bag on
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:40 PM
But apparently anyone can tag it, so you could just make a lvl 1 to
throw a spell/sword/book at it to get credit.
[4:41 PM]
Of course :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:41 PM
Oh yes. Seen plenty of low levels around in Sw.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:41 PM
Can you guess where the first bag went? :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:41 PM
The horde alt?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:41 PM
Exactly, and it wasn't even first kill of the day, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:42 PM
Heh. I actually got mine on my first kill on the first day with my
main, and then by chance on my horde main that same night when it
was in Orgrimmar.
But the first alt, level 60 pally, is having trouble getting hers
after a few days of SW
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:43 PM
I have at least 3 alts that could sit around in the Dragon Isles if
I needed to. Glad that the dragonriding mounts unlock for alts too.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:43 PM
Funny, having a horde "main". Guess it's all that altmaking for
9.1...
Hah, yes.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:44 PM
But yeah, likely to cut back my attempts because it's also not fun
having so many people there I can't even see what I'm trying to aim
at.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:44 PM
Anyway, I did get Tyrael's Charger yesterday on the pally, so that
at least paid off. Just missing one of Wirt's legs in total - which
I could always get from the AH if needed - and any bags on alts I
can get.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:44 PM
Well congrats Phar. At least one of us got it :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:44 PM
And yes, cutting it down to 1 kill a day is really a lot more
manageable
Thanks
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:45 PM
I think I have 2 of Wirt's... four legs total I think?
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:45 PM
Well, I guess that's part of my personal report right there, guess
I'll refer back in myh actual report
There's 3, I think. 2-h, 1-h, offhand. I've got the first 2.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:45 PM
Not to mention the 2 he has in the games and the one real one, so he
had seven legs total, apparently of varying sizes and qualities,
heh.

Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:46 PM

Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 4:47 PM
Well, there's still the appearance. But then, that was also around
in the previous Diablo event.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 4:48 PM
It's not a unique appearance, so apparently I'd collected it from
the original.
Also already have the guitar toy and the town portal.

Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:21 PM
I've considered going to Scarborough Faire. It's held not terribly
far away. A bit of a drive, but still in the state.
[5:22 PM]
I meant what land/region.

Where are those found, Arien?
[5:26 PM]
The Hobbits of the Shire had bacon.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:26 PM
If we are going to count meat, then Sam was cooking coneys (rabbits)
for Frodo...and maybe Gollum...but Gollum did not like his food
cooked.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:27 PM
Hmm. To participate I'd really need to get my books out and just...
leaf through dozens of pages of travel description.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:27 PM
I said "plants and foods" so if it's a food it counts.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:27 PM
Otherwise the best I can do is pipeweed
Well, gollum also liked fish
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:27 PM
Raw. Sushi?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:27 PM
There you go, Phar :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:27 PM
Raw and wrrriggly.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:28 PM
So for the record, Sam was in Ithilien when he found those things.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:28 PM
Yup indeedy...
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:29 PM
Gollum caught a fish at Henneth Annun, I believe?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:29 PM
Oops, you said that. pardon. It snuck in right under my Celtic Woman
video and I missed it, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:29 PM
Or was that the movie again...
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:29 PM
No, you're right Phar.
[5:29 PM]
In the pools below at least.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:29 PM
Right.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:30 PM
Don't want fish....
[5:30 PM]
Unless it is cooked, especially pan-fried. Yum!
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:30 PM
Blackberry tarts are mentioned in the Shire, so we know they had
blackberries and pastries, hehehe.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:31 PM
Which suggests that they also had flour (wheat) and sugar. Now where
in Middle-earth did they get sugar? Certainly not native to The
Shire!
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:31 PM
in the shire as well Eonwe .. sam mentioned his dad the gaffer is a
master of roots including tatters and it is mentioned that after Sam
planted the mallorn and strew the Lothlorien earth over his favorite
places the strawberries grew especially plentiful and also the
grapes brought forth a n excellent vine in the year that sauron was
defeated
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:31 PM
Aren't there alternatives for sugar, though?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:32 PM
Might've been able to grow it to some extent during parts of the
year. Doesn't have to be large quantities to get the job done. Also
they had honey.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:32 PM
Even harder to get in the Shire than sugar, I think.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:32 PM
Honey? Talks about them having honey and honeycomb in the Shire.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:33 PM
Very hard to bake with honey as a sweetening ingredient with flour,
I believe...but possible?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:33 PM
But aye, they had wheat.
[5:34 PM]
I feel like but did not write down that flour is mentioned
somewhere, but I can't remember where.
And Aye to Arien's big paragraph. I didn't miss it :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:34 PM
Oh, and... lest we forget
mushrooms!
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:35 PM
Indeed, don't want to forget those :}
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:35 PM
Tolkien mentions fields of "oast" and "byre." Is the oast a typo? IF
not, what in the world is it? And byre? Never heard of that before.
Is it European?
In the Return of the King,, describing the homesteads on the
Pelennor.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:36 PM
Let me open that part up, one sec.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:36 PM

oast - A kiln for drying tobacco, malt and
especially hops.
byre - A barn, especially one used for keeping
cattle in.

some of the explanations? --Earendilyon 16:12, 5 April 2006 (EDT)
Hm, not sure. I compiled them from various
sources a while ago. Are you disagreeing with the fact that a word
is listed or the actual explanation? Feel free to change anything :)

I was wondering w...
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:36 PM
oats and barley?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:36 PM
Luckily RotK is not currently one of my books locked away on a
shelf, heh.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:36 PM
I always thought that "oast" was a typo for "oats." But Byre
remains.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:37 PM
"oast, and garner, fold and byre". yep
[5:37 PM]
"many orchards"
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:37 PM
they would have those in the Shire though as they brewed beer and
made pie
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:37 PM
What are they?
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:37 PM
points up
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:38 PM
byre .. isn t that an old word for barn?
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:38 PM
Oh for - I just gave definitions for both of them :)

ah he did yes :O
[5:39 PM]
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:40 PM
So those aren't plants, they're structures of various types and use.
They don't count for our list :}
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:40 PM
Garner: Middle-English "granary" from Old French "gernier."
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:40 PM
Indeed
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:42 PM
Oast: Old Germanic, Dutch eest, M.E. äst
Sorry...Old English äst
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:42 PM
Cheat code: You can pick any surname in Bree, and chances are good
it's related to a plant, heh.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:42 PM
ponders "Ferny" I don't see it...
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:43 PM
Wow. Those are really archaic terms, huh? I will have to include
them in my examples of Tolkien's use of OLD English words in the
LoTR to give it historicity.
You folks have made my day! I have added four ancient words to my
dictionary.
[5:44 PM]
I will have to tell my friends I am going to bake my bread in my
oast.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:44 PM
So.. you're going to boast about your oast?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:44 PM
"Ferny"? obviously it's related to the wildberries that grow in the
area.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:44 PM
I will have to first host my oast before I can bake in it.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:45 PM
And let them admire your byre?
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:45 PM
My byre is beautiful, thank you very much.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:45 PM
You're... going to invite your oast over for tea? Wouldn't it be
easier to boast that you host a ghost in your oast?
[5:46 PM]
Build it on the coast to get the most.
Serve the ghost roast and toast.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:47 PM
Byre, choir, fire, gyre, hire, ire, lyre, liar, mire, pyre, sire,
tire/tyre, wire...wow. A long list. Ought to make a poem about this.
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:47 PM
and then we have a larner in the garner and something cold in the
fold or no better old?
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:47 PM
Now you've got it :}
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:47 PM
My byre was on fire, it was practically a pyre. You can call me a
liar but it came down to the wire!
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:47 PM
:)
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:47 PM
Bravo.
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:48 PM
great one :)
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:48 PM
Fantastisch!
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:49 PM
We're almost 50 minutes after the hour. I think I should bang the
gavel on Phar's and let everyone be about their business.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 5:49 PM
I must bid a fond Namarie. Tomorrow is Memorial Day in the U.S., and
I am going to the JCC in Denver to read a list of deceased Vets who
died in the service of their country. Need to get to Costco for sone
dinner before they close for the day. I shall check in again later!

Later, später.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:51 PM
Have fun Sandalf.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:51 PM
Recorded Crazy Rich Asians this evening. I'm not really into
romcoms but this is supposed to be quite good.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:52 PM
Enjoy.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 5:52 PM
Thanks Back later for report!
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:53 PM
I'm going to listen to music and figure out food, heh.
Arien Valar — 05/28/2023 5:53 PM
have all fun in what you do all
[5:54 PM]
i ll just go to bed and prepare for tomorrow yawn
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:54 PM
Gotta make sure you can rise and shine there, Sunny, heh.
Sleep well, Arien :}

Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 5:56 PM
I guess I should get my first treasure goblin in since it'll be in
Stormwind, then gaff it off for a couple of hours while I do
something more fun, heh.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 6:07 PM
Arg, the one time the treasure goblin spawns on time I miss it.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 8:36 PM
Hallo again!
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 8:44 PM
Aiya! Back from movie-watching.
[8:44 PM]
Personal gaming report!
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 8:44 PM
Aiya! What movie?
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 8:44 PM
Crazy Rich Asians. Was quite fun.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 8:45 PM
I have not seen it, but I have heard it is very funny.
[8:46 PM]
The last movie that was was on Amazon...a very tragic and
depressing movie, but, as Linus says, "Happiness is a sad song." The
Painted Bird. 2019. Downright depressing. Made by a Czech
director, I believe.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 8:46 PM
Definitely some good characters in there
Aha.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 8:46 PM
The last move that I saw....sorry...
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 8:47 PM
Well, there's always a time for depressing stuff too

[8:50 PM]
Right, report!
[8:51 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, here's a physics game,
https://www.kongregate.com/games/flori9/circloo-2
Kongregate
circloO 2
A colorful physics platformer in a growing
circle.
You#39re a small ball rolling around in a round
level. Collect circles to grow the level. As it grows, everyt...
[8:53 PM]
You're in control of a black ball, and have to move around a
circular room, collecting circles. When you collect one, the room
grows outward, and you can collect the next one, until the level's
complete.
You can only move left and right and have to use gravity and
momentum to reach the targets.
[8:54 PM]
And for an even bigger challenge you can go for the timed badge,
completing all the levels under a total of 24 minutes. Doesn't have
to be in one go, as time is counted per level, and you can try to
shave off time per individual level.
Oh, and the music's nice too Good luck!
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:00 PM
Is this a new game for you?
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:00 PM
I've played it before, but not in a while, and it came up in this
week's badges of the day, so I played it a bit more again, and
thought I'd recommend it
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:01 PM
Maybe it will be another one for me to try. I had fun with your
other recommendation a few weeks ago.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:02 PM
Great
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:12 PM
Blizzard gaming:
[9:14 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 76 on the reward track now. Over three quarters of the way to
100!
[9:15 PM]
Completed the event quests as well, in the battlegrounds, by getting
a few golden murlocs gathered in them. I'd advise to stay in tier 1,
since the pool is smaller and you'll be more likely to collect the
same murloc 3 times for the golden version.
[9:16 PM]
Brawl is the heroic tavern brawl, which is basically arena with
higher stakes. I never do that one, and got my 5 wins for the weekly
quest through battlegrounds and duels instead, using a secrets
hunter in the latter.
[9:18 PM]
WoW:
For raiding, we got Sarkareth down on normal difficulty, completing
the raid! We're going through normal a few more times for upgrades
and shortcuts, and then we'll be moving to heroic.
[9:19 PM]
I've also gotten my 2-piece tier bonus, which is actually kinda nice
for guardian, giving a bit of passive healing and increasing rage
generation on taking damage.
Not tried it on feral yet, I think.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:21 PM
As we spoke of during the gaming section, I've worked at the Diablo
crossover event, getting all the new stuff except one last
missing Wirt's Leg. So that means mount (Tyrael's Charger), pet
(Baa'lial), the 36-slot bag, the backpack cloak appearance, a banner
toy, the Enmity appearance ensemble.
And the other 2 legs.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:22 PM
Ah ha.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:22 PM
But, with May drawing to an end, I also completed the currency
collection for this month for the Trading Post, and bought some
stuff I wanted there.
[9:23 PM]
Including 2 pets: Egbob, which I'd frozen from last month, Pippin
(not a hobbit!), the pet from this month, and the snowy hood/cloak
ensemble.
And I also got the Savage Green Battle Turtle, the mount freely
gotten for completing the currency collection for this month.
[9:24 PM]
Weekly this week is timewalking, and while the quest reward was a
duplicate, I did end up getting a new soulshape from the timewalking
dungeons, the Kodo Soul.
[9:25 PM]
Still not done yet collecting those, it seems, but getting a new one
now and then is nice
Finally, more alting!
[9:26 PM]
Continued in Ardenweald with the mage, fighting spriggans at a night
fae workshop, freeing some Elders, taking down the spriggan leader,
and getting out with a bunch of decursed tools.
[9:27 PM]
For project Horde, I started leveling my tauren hunter Caliboes,
taking down some quillboar and reaching level 5.
[9:28 PM]
At level 5 I got to tame my first pet, and went slightly north out
of the starting area to pick up a praerie wolf, to further the image
reference I based my tauren on. You'll see the complete result at
around level 10 :)
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:30 PM
I also get my first 2-handed melee weapon, which reminded me to send
over some farming implements for transmog as well. While I don't
actually get any survival/melee skills until I choose Survival spec
at level 10, I am liking the challenge to simply use basic melee
attacking, combined with my pet, to beat up the enemies rather than
shooting them with bow or gun
Survival even before choosing the specialization!
[9:31 PM]
It actually looks rather funny to have my strong tauren smack stuff
over the head with a shovel.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:31 PM
Have you also read the George R.R. Martin books? He enjoys writing
about melees/
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:31 PM
I've seen Game of Thrones, the tv series, but did not go for
the books.
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:31 PM
Among knights, that is. Der Ritter....
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:32 PM
So yeah, next week, onward to 10, and if I make it, it's time for
horde alt number 4!
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:32 PM
I always preferred Tolkien....and Martin has made some unkind
comments about the LoTR...he seems to be a sort of self-aggrandizing
person, but perhaps I am wrong.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 05/28/2023 9:33 PM
His works are a bit too explicit for me. Easier to skip over in a tv
show than in a book.
[9:34 PM]
Anyway, that's my report for the week
Now time for bed!
[9:34 PM]
Namarie
Sandalf13 — 05/28/2023 9:56 PM
Namarie!
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 10:06 PM
Yay, finally got the bag, so now I can just park a bunch of
characters in different areas and cycle between them for the mount.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 10:48 PM
There, got all my guys spread out so now I just log into whoever is
in the area for the goblin and not care about who it is, heh.
[10:50 PM]
Ok, so looks like i'm just missing Wirt's Fightin' Leg and I've got
the three we can get.
[10:51 PM]
That and the charger are all I don't have it seems.
Eonwë Valar — 05/28/2023 11:15 PM
