He took the train from Washington, D.C., to Chicago, through Lincoln, on to Denver. we took a 30 mile bike ride earlier today, and just got back. We took the South Platte River Trail from downtown Denver to Littleton...15 miles each wa6=y. At the end of the ride, we waded out into thge Platte to cool off. Absolutely wonderful. We are off to Planet Fitness to stretch out and shower...I will check in later! Sei gesund, and Namarie for now!

Tolkien:

Varda — Yesterday at 4:24 PM
Anyway, last meeting on a side chat, Eonwe and I were chatting about what we actually know about Elven hair length.

Ahh, Arien. On Landroval, I made a free to play account just to keep that little house. Great view and fishing.

[4:25 PM]
Since RoP and others are so big on short-haired elves, we took a look.
[Note: more elf hair-length]

Whilst taking a look, I tangented on spotting proof of Rohirrim hair and eyes too.
[4:26 PM]
Interestingly similar to Elven, but they have shorter lives than Numenorean-descent Gondorians.
So maybe they're just blond humans like the Scandinavians. : )
Anyway,
On the Rohirrim:
[4:27 PM]
The Two Towers, "The Uruk-Hai":
Quote:
The sunset gilded their spears and helmets and glinted in their pale flowing hair.
End quote
[4:27 PM]
Then later in the same chapter, Ugluk comments:
"But these Whiteskins have better night-eyes than most Men from all I've heard; and don't forget their horses! They can see the night-breeze or so it's said."
End quote.
[4:29 PM]
So there's some question whether that night-sight is just the horses, but Ugluk is likely right that the Rohirrim see well at night. They live outside so much on horseback, that they probably developed great distance sight and need to see well without house lights.
I wonder if they might be a tad far-sighted, one reason they might not all be as bookish as they might be. ; )

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
oh there are Rohirim scholars honestly

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
(sorry for not responding, was fighting a Stronghold-boss in D4)

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
at least in the game

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Every civilization's got scholars
Of a kind, anyway.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
but i bet there would be historians i d think since there were bards

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Maybe the Rohirrim scholars have reading glasses

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
and bards usually have a streak of history research

Varda — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Good points. : )

[4:33 PM]
Here's another thought. Did it seem as if some things from the Sil were reworked to put in the LotR and H, as JRRT had been told the Sil was a no-go for publishing?
[4:34 PM]
Or it could be the old "history tends to repeat itself somewhat".

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Hmm. When did he scale up balrogs?

Varda — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
Balrogs became only seven, much scarier. That was well after the early Gondolin stories.
So the Balrog of Moria was a survivor of the seven.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
Indeed.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
I'd come across this: https://middle-earth-mythopoeia.tumblr.com/post/692679858407587840/tolkien-and-long-hair-what-do-the-books-say-any. Led me to some flipping through HoME and running into some other things. "Long hair" is of course going to be relative, as "too long" is not going to be conducive to fighting.
    Tumblr
Home is behind, the world ahead
Home is behind, the world ahead
Tolkien and long hair: what do the books say?
Any time Tolkien describes the length of Elves’ hair, it’s always said to be long:
    - Glorfindel: ‘His golden hair flowed shimmering in the wind of his...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
But I wonder if that was done for LotR, or earlier.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
But not the very short hair on RoP

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
I don't remember how short it gets on that.
[4:37 PM]
Probably not down to an inch or two though, no.
Considering they'd be working with scissors, there's probably a "too short" too.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
https://attackofthefanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Rings-of-Power-Silvan-Elves-Arondir.jpg

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:38 PM
Yes, that seems unlikely.
[4:39 PM]
Almost like it's burned off.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Elrond comparison:
https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.OfnS2SvvXO5-Sk0OhzcpegAAAA%26pid%3DApi&f=1&ipt=570046ffa3e5dbab6cf43885cd5c09fca405b79a88ea9ceb5a6e387df1d4c0fd&ipo=images

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:39 PM
Ok I'm going to say no on that. [Note: Arondir image]. Elves are meticilous I'm sure, but I don't think anyone is going to want to spend that long with a pair of scissors to get it like that.
[4:40 PM]
Based on that picture, I wouldn't say Elrond's it out of the realm of possibility.
[4:41 PM]
I tend to think of Roman soldiers, who are supposed to have kept their hair short.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_hairstyles
    Roman hairstyles
Hairstyle fashion in Rome was ever changing, and particularly in the Roman Imperial Period there were a number of different ways to style hair.
As with clothes, there were several hairstyles that were limited to certain people in ancient society.
Styles are so distinctive they allow scholars today to create a chronology of Roman portraiture and ...

Shelob — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Aloha!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Aiya!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Not saying that all Elves had it that short, but I also consider the elves were hear about are royalty.

Shelob — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
I mean. Aiya!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Aiya Shelob : )

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
aiya Shelob :)

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
And by today's standards (say, the last 70 or so years), shoulder-length would be "long". Could well be shoulder-length would be "short" or "average" for Elven men.
[4:47 PM]
Mention is made of Galadriel having to tie her hair up in some fashion when she joined in the athletic events. No mention of men having to do the same, so that could be taken as some indication in a difference at least in maintained hair length between Elven women and Elven men.
[4:48 PM]
And I buried my books again, heh.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
Maybe you need a shelf or a stacking spot near the comp? : )

Maybe the male elves already had their hair tied back, such as warrior braids?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:53 PM
Could be, that the women otherwise did not need to tie their hair up, while for men it was the default.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
What about interestingly similar events across the histories into the LotR? Suppose they are the repeating waves in history in general?
Thranduil is living in caves. He's not the first one to put his core kingdom in such a place.
How about Doriath, for instance?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
One of the Noldorin princes, I can't remember which now, apparently had "gold plaited in his braided hair" or something like that (struggling to find the reference) so different hair styles including braids is a possibility.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
I wanna say Fingon?
Educated guess.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Aye, Thranduil got the idea of his dwelling in caves from Menegroth.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
Over such a long time, elves would surely try out different fashions, if only for changing practicality in new situations.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Hmm, long-lived they may be, but surely fashion trends still come and go over the millennia.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:00 PM
We have reached the hour (but can still chat all we like!).
[5:01 PM]
the gavel comes sputtering up out of an inkwell

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
Perhaps fashion comes in waves through history as well

Varda — Yesterday at 5:01 PM
that was no cave!
the hammerpad gently bonks it over the head

top

After-meeting!

[5:01 PM]
One way fashion changes is when a new generation comes up.
[5:02 PM]
Another is when lifestyles change.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
or topic changes
errr alas

Varda — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Arien has a good one.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
can a fea be bound to an item , let us say a ring for example , by dark magic?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
I can't imagine who would ever write such a story

Varda — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
We have examples, as in the One Ring, where a part of the power and malice of Sauron is poured into the One Ring. Not his whole self, though.
Sauron and Morgoth put part of their own power into their minions too, to strengthen them.
[5:09 PM]
Morgoth put part of his power into Arda, so that even after he was pushed through the Doors of Night, his influence continued as evil infecting those on the planet.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
I don't know if the Ainur had fea similar to the Children. They seemed to be able to spread their essence and power around more easily, at least.

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
But were Sauron and Morgoth diminished much beyond being limited in what forms they could take?

Varda — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
It did lessen their power, aye

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
In an attempt to forego the normal fate of that fëa? I'm trying to think of any examples. The Nazgul technically never died. They experienced Elvish fading forced upon them by their rings. I'm not sure they should count since it was the whole person affected, not just the fëa being bound.

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Aule and Yavanna poured their power into their creations, especially Yavanna with her trees and later with the Ents, as a means to protect her precious creations from Aule's Dwarves, but it did not seem to diminish either.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
That did not seem to be the same thing.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
i know that an unhoused fea can look for a new house , a new body , and take posession of it but i wasnt sure whether that can be happening to a trinket or a ring as well

Varda — Yesterday at 5:11 PM
Making a clay pot does not take away your life force.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Sauron was so much weakened without the Ring that it took him an entire age of the Sun to re-manifest, and when it was destroyed he'd lost so much power he couldn't hope of doing so again. His problem, though, as with Morgoth was a problem with the nature of evil: he reached a point where couldn't move on from his evil, even long enough to heal. Morgoth had greater power so he hadn't sunk quite so low, which is why he will be able to return at The End (though perhaps only "healed enough" and not completely recovered).

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
No, but Aule shaped the Dwarves from 'living' rock if memory serves, and Yavanna created the Ents from trees. That is not so much different than Morgoth creating his minions from other living things, aside from the fact that it was an evil act.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:13 PM
Aule and Yavanna's creations were given life by Eru, however.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Aye.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Morgoth had to divide a part of himself.
Eru used the Flame Imperishable, a part of himself, like using a match to light a fire.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Morgoth put a portion of his own Being into his creations. Aulë did not do this because that was not what he desired.

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:14 PM
Well, that's not entirely true, because the Dwarves, although not meant to be alive, had a will of themselves, shying away from Aule's hammer, which is why He took pity upon them.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:15 PM
Aulë realized his mistake, depending on the story even before Eru started scolding him.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:15 PM
Wasn't it implied that Eru had given life to them already when Aule swung the hammer/
?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:15 PM
In the SIl, yes.
[5:16 PM]
They shrunk away. If they were merely an extension of Aulë they would not have.

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:16 PM
I don't remember Eru giving them life though.
Not until after he pitied them and gave them true life.
[5:17 PM]
Nor do I remember Eru having a hand in Yavanna's creation of the Ents, but then again, memory isn't what it used to be.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:19 PM
Manwë reminds Yavanna of a portion of the Music that included the Eagles and the Ents.
That's the short version.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:21 PM
"Then Aule took up a great hammer to smite the Dwarves; and he wept. But Iluvatar had compassion upon Aule and his desire, because of his humility; and the Dwarves shrank from the hammer and were afraid, and they bowed down their heads and begged for mercy.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:22 PM
hammer, compassion, life/free will in that order
Eru can act fast

Varda — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
"And the voice of Illuvatar said to Aule: "Thy offer I accepted even as it was made. Dost thou not see that these things now have a life of their own and speak with their own voices? ..."
Shelob — Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Ah, it's more implied than actually said. That's why I was confused.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:25 PM
"But dost thou not now remember, Kementari, that thy thought sang not always alone?" Says something perhaps about Yavanna's thought if she doesn't consider the times where others were singing with her, but she can be like "While you were off making clouds and rain with Ulmo I was sitting there singing about trees to make use of it all."
Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:26 PM
ha .. being practical
[5:27 PM]
I like Yavanna .. very woman like

Varda — Yesterday at 5:27 PM
: )

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:27 PM
" i make sure you spend your power for something useful"Q

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
"Yes, yes, very nice, very pretty what you made... but is it actually good for something?"

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:29 PM
The woman who hassles her husband for not revealing every detail of his plans and then gloats when she gets what she wants. I prefer the one who rejects the Dark Lord while he still looks shiny and then doesn't throw it in her man's face, but that's me, hehe.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Why, thank you. ; )

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
thanks for the compliment ~ thats what i did according to one version of the story anyway giggles

Varda — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
There you go!

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:30 PM
Except the part about Arien rejecting the man who loved her, heh.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:31 PM
he got something better to do yes nods

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
But Varda dodged a bullet there with Melkor anyway. I can't imagine her fate would've been too good stuck in Utumno, even if Melkor was everything he should be to her, I don't think the Valië of Light would do well confined to living underground.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
Rejected him long ago. : )

Question: Do any of you use e-books?

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:32 PM
I don't, no.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:33 PM
Do you know if some types are searchable?
I'm considering buying the H and LotR over time that way if they can be searched like a web page, sort of.

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:33 PM
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think one can look at Aulë's and Yavanna's relationship, and see why Dwarves and Ents struggle so much to maintain anything resembling a population.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:34 PM
hehe

Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 5:34 PM
See my corrected "I don't, no" statement. I would know if I were using e-books, of course, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
Varda underground... isn't that how we'd get stuff like the glittering caves?
Stars in the wall?

Varda — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
Sounds right
But

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
I can see her brightening Utumno up a bit.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
our Lady of the Sun and even the Lord of the Moon go underground nightly.
[5:36 PM]
They may have left bits of brightness, maybe on purpose?
Fan fic time! ; )

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:36 PM
But the Stars always burn, even if the Sun Lady is a tiny bit brighter than them.

Varda — Yesterday at 5:37 PM
Closer at least. A star is a sun at a distance.
[5:38 PM]
The sun walking through caverns beneath the creation!

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:39 PM
But Tolkien did not make that particular distinction, did he?

Varda — Yesterday at 5:40 PM
In later writings, he was struggling to bring the story and rl closer together, but at first, the stars were sailing ships in the "Upper Airs".

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:41 PM
see the story of Earendil

Varda — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
Aye.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
he was sailing in a ship .. what was the name again? Vingilot or was that another one? with a silmaril worked into a circlet

Varda — Yesterday at 5:42 PM
Vingilot is correct

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:43 PM
 phew memory still works

Varda — Yesterday at 5:43 PM
Yay! Even when you're supposed to be asleep! ; )

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:44 PM

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:46 PM
Ack, when you spend all your health potions and then find out the D4 boss has a second phase...

Varda — Yesterday at 5:46 PM
oooops!
Hey, buddies, mail some health potions!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:46 PM
Anyway, I thought Aerendil's ship was a special case rather than all the stars being ships. But it makes sense.
[5:47 PM]
's fine, some of his frequently spawning adds dropped potions

Varda — Yesterday at 5:47 PM
yay

@Ar-Pharazon-V
Ack, when you spend all your health potions and then find out the D4 boss has a second phase...
Shelob — Yesterday at 5:47 PM
Still better than hoarding all your health potions expecting there to be a second phase and never needing them.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:47 PM
haha, maybe

Varda — Yesterday at 5:47 PM
Also oops

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:48 PM
Like in most RPGs I simply sell most of my potions.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:48 PM
D4 doesn't work that way.

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:48 PM
In a few short minutes I will have some Ramen Noodles. The name is Yum Yum. I do not disagree.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:49 PM
You get a maximum amount of health potion slots which you can then use in a fight, replenished by potions dropped by mobs (and partway through bossfights), from healing wells and from healers in towns.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:49 PM
Enjoy

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:49 PM
And you can unlock more slots from Renown upgrades.
So no potions to sell
But enjoy!

Shelob — Yesterday at 5:49 PM
Good system.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:50 PM
but anyhow i have to give in I fear ... Namarie , fellow Valarites and friends

Varda — Yesterday at 5:50 PM

[9:32 PM]
Including Andy Serkis who we probably all know

Right. Personal gaming report!

For (non)flashgaming, a new badge this week on kongregate, for a new game, one of those based on the site's kongpanions,

    Trifling Truffle Trouble
Before his demise, Chef Nogusto met with his brother, Lord Sugarcoat, to share his evil recipes for truffled snacks with the infamous chocolatier.Together they...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:38 PM
This chapter of the series' story involves a machine dispensing kongpanions as snacks, but the gameplay is very much standalone, as you use chocolate truffles to shoot targets of various kinds out of the machine before they make their way down.
Not a very original gameplay concept, but there's fun mechanics and variations, and nicely presented  So enjoy!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:56 PM
I am still here, sort of.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 9:56 PM
Right. I should stop playing the game I just linked and continue

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:56 PM
Working on Chapter Four...reviewed our posting since I left earlier.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:05 PM
Blizzard gaming:
[10:06 PM]
Diablo 4:
Completed the campaign, entering the Realm of Hatred beyond the Gates of Hell, witnessing the death of the angel Inarius, fighting my way through Lilith's nightmare, and ultimately capturing Mephisto while slaying Lilith.
[10:06 PM]
Also did the epilogue, though that was mostly travelling around a bit and talking to a few people
[10:08 PM]
After that, I switched up the difficulty to world tier II, and started working on Renown for all the regions. Completed the Bear Tribe quests, getting the The Bear title, very nice for my bear druid  And started clearing Strongholds to unlock new quest hubs and get a lot of Renown points.
[10:09 PM]
Got Fractured Peaks to renown 3, Scosglen and the Dry Steppes to 2, and Kehjistan to 1.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:12 PM
Season 1 started this week which I've not tried yet, since I want to get some Renown first as it carries over to the seasonal character. It did come with a balance patch, though, which pretty much nerfed my bear's healing to the ground, making difficulty II rather challenging. And with Strongholds always being 2 levels above you, I've died a fair few times. But I've ultimately managed so far, though one of the Scosglen stronghold bosses was beyond me. I ended up having to drop difficulty for a bit and re-clearing the place.
Indeed, Fionnir, the Moordaine Lodge boss, is apparently one of the hardest stronghold bosses in the game, especially for a melee class/build.
[10:14 PM]
I leveled up from 46 to 50 along the way, getting my last talent points and starting to build up paragon points instead, which I'm spending on base attributes so far.
[10:15 PM]
But I doubt I'll level much higher any time soon since I'll be sticking with difficulty II until I get 3 renown with all zones, and the mobs don't scale higher than 50 at this difficulty. Well, 52 at least for the strongholds, I guess
[10:16 PM]
But I'm getting the hang of this difficulty now, paying more attention to things to avoid.
[10:17 PM]
But I'm wanting to go back a bit more to WoW as well, so I think I'll alternate renown-getting with WoW alting. So it'll be a bit slower.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:20 PM
Hearthstone:
Level 135 on the reward track! More gold, yay
[10:22 PM]
Almost done with the big midsummer quest event, I have the ranked questline done, and about 44 points away from the final 3000 point goal. I could do some battlegrounds for the other questline, but apparently with one questline done, I'm getting daily quests again for it as well. So that should be enough instead.
Also, Death Knight class gotten to level 32!
[10:23 PM]
Brawl is the UnidentifiaBrawl. Choose a class, get a random deck with a bunch of loot that gets random effects in your hand. The gimmick isn't too pronounced, though, and most games just play out normally.

WoW:
[10:24 PM]
More raiding, got the 3rd quest item to unlock the shortcut on heroic difficulty. Also making progress on heroic Sarkareth, the last boss, as we've gotten into phase 3 several times.
[10:27 PM]
Weekly is mythic dungeons, for which I've also done the new megadungeon again this week. In doing so, got infinite scales for another of the dragonriding mounts, as well as a new weapon from the last boss. Pretty much equal to the heroic raiding weapon I already had, but slightly better distribution of secondary stats, and a unique bonus, Timestrike. Which apparently counts for 1% of my damage in the raid, I'm told, so that's not bad for a free perk

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 10:29 PM
I also got more aspects' crests out of it, and used 4 of them to recraft my Flaring Cowl to heroic raiding ilevel. And used the other 2 to max out the ilevel upgrades of my new weapon, and the tier chest. Apparently when you max out a tier piece it also takes the appearance of the next difficulty, so my heroic chestpiece now has the purple mythic look. I kinda like it, and am looking forward to maxing out more pieces as I do the megadungeon a few more times
[10:30 PM]
Only need a few bits of honor more to complete the trading post for this month, so next reset's brawl should easily take care of that. That's good, means I won't have to go out of my way to gather extra points.
[10:31 PM]
Draenic seed gathering in the old Garrison is progressing as well, as I was able to buy the Garden Scythe appearance for 1000 seeds. Now I only have 2 1-hands to go for 500 seeds each. Getting there!
[10:33 PM]
And finally, alting! As mentioned above, I wanted to get back to alting, alternating it more with D4. I got the first half of the blood elf starting zone done, getting my paladin to level 6.
And next week, I hope to do a bit more maging in Revendreth!
And that's my report for the week.
[10:34 PM]
Namarie!

July 24, 2023

@Shelob
Ah, it's more implied than actually said. That's why I was confused.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:15 AM
Missed this earlier, wanted to comment. Varda's quote from the Sil:
"And the voice of Illuvatar said to Aule: "Thy offer I accepted even as it was made. Dost thou not see that these things now have a life of their own and speak with their own voices? ..."
[6:18 AM]
Sounds pretty clear the order of events from that: Eru chastised Aulë, Aulë repents of his mistake and offers to destroy the Dwarves, Eru has pity and grants them Being of their own, Aulë goes to destroy the Dwarves, and Eru says (paraphrased), "Hey, pay attention dude. I just gave the Dwarves life, but I'm not fixing anything else you screwed up."

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:24 AM
Or, more properly paraphrased: "Son, you messed up, but I know you didn't do it to spite me. I love you, so I'm going to fix this, but only this. However, I am not going to let your impatience throw off the plan I set out, so you're going to have to wait. You're going to learn patience."

Shelob — Today at 6:48 AM
Yes, I understand that now, but for the longest time I did not read it as such.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 6:56 AM
Actually, let me amend that just a bit, because to be accurate, first Aulë was like "Here dad, do with these what you will." Then he said (again, paraphrasing): "Since this is something I screwed up anyway, shouldn't I just rip it all up and throw it in the trash?" So the "offer" Eru refers to is the first offer,  not the one where Aulë goes to destroy the Dwarves.

@Shelob
Yes, I understand that now, but for the longest time I did not read it as such.
Eonwë Valar — Today at 7:02 AM
Fair enough, but I still needed to clarify to point out the offer was to give the Dwarves to Eru, not to destroy them. Don't need anyone mistaking that, heh.

Anyway, time to turn my attention elsewhere. Enjoy the day.
