Sandalf13 — Today at 4:01 PM
Have I got some pictures for the group today...

Varda — Today at 4:01 PM
Aiyia Sandalf and Phar : )
Hope some are related to Tolkien or gaming? : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:01 PM
Both, sort of,  believe it or not.

Varda — Today at 4:02 PM
Fire away!

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:02 PM
I may not be very good at gaming, but I can still work the Eldritch Forge...so I created a mini-Sandalf that I may be able to use one day. Who knows?

[4:05 PM]
That's all, folks!

Varda — Today at 4:05 PM
Very good! Think you might be painting it in the future?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:06 PM
Baruk Khazad?

Varda — Today at 4:06 PM
Aiya Eonwe : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:07 PM
Heya.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:07 PM
Sandalf is not a Dwarf.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:07 PM
Sandwarf.

Varda — Today at 4:08 PM
If you pick a name for all-around membership, the various played avatars can be anything: spacehip, dwarf, or whatever the game has available.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:08 PM
But he's wielding an axe. Could be a a Dwarven Axe. Although since "Baruk Khazad" means "Axes of the Dwarves" I now wonder what the singular of "Baruk" would be.

Varda — Today at 4:08 PM
The name is just like having a "real-life" name, not your playing figure's name.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:09 PM
And Khazad ai-menu is what you find in a Dwarven restaurant.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:09 PM
Written by your computer.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:09 PM
Dine in or take-out?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:10 PM
("A I menu" rimshot)
[4:11 PM]
Anyway, nice figurine.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:12 PM
Thanks!

Varda — Today at 4:12 PM
The name for yourself would be one from any of the books, so you would automatically have a backstory and way to relate to all the rest of us in a form of Role-play.
[4:15 PM]
In other news, it seem Fangorn and I will be away tomorrow and an uncertain number of days to go to a friend's funeral in Arkansas. Also away on at least Saturday of the upcoming weekend for happier reasons, a friend's birthday in another city. Should be here for the Sunday meeting, as far as I can tell.
[4:15 PM]
Falco needs character invitations on Crickhollow.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:16 PM
My condolences to you and to your friend's family.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:16 PM
Condolences.

Varda — Today at 4:16 PM
Thank you.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:16 PM
We promise no wild parties while you're gone, heh.

Varda — Today at 4:16 PM
Don't be so drastic!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:16 PM
...That was a confirmation, not a spelling correction.

Arien  Valar — Today at 4:16 PM
Sorry to hear it hugs

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:17 PM
Corrected anyway, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:17 PM
hehe

Varda — Today at 4:20 PM
Party as a confirmation of the joys in life, but in a good way! : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:20 PM
Plese accept my condolences as well.

Varda — Today at 4:20 PM
Any other membership news? I'm just letting you know why it's so hard to reach me sometimes.
[4:20 PM]
Thank you all.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:20 PM
I was temporarily lost reading up on Testor's paint supply for my figurine.

Varda — Today at 4:21 PM
Very good. : )

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:22 PM
That should bring back some memories for us older folks. Only 69 cents? Crazy.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:22 PM
I remember when I used to build some models, always some color listed in the model requirements that I could never find sold in the stores I could go to.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:23 PM
I wonder what that set (1950s) would go for today....

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:25 PM
Sounds like kind of thing you'd see on pawn stars.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:26 PM
"I want 300,000 dollars!"
"I'll give you 20 bucks."

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:26 PM
"That's fine, I only paid 69 cents for it."

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:27 PM
Goes up on shelf for $300.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:27 PM
:)

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:28 PM
Now I wonder if I've still got some of my Testors paints from the 90s, heh.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:32 PM
But not building a house of cards, probably.

Varda — Today at 4:33 PM
Ah hah! A pic of Eonwe catching said gavel. : )
[4:33 PM]
Ok, our Eonwe is a great deal slimmer. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:34 PM
Hopefully. I'd like to think I'm not quite so spherical, heh.

    World of Warcraft
Make Merry at the December Trading Post - WoW
New class armor sets and weapon sets are available for the Evoker, Hunter, Mage, and Shaman in this month’s Trading Post offerings. This month’s signature item—Buttercup the baby moose pet.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:35 PM
Note: Timewalk dungeons count towards the dungeon vault slots now.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:35 PM
Aye, and LFR counts for the raid slots too apparently.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:36 PM
I think it always did, just affects the gear ilevel.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:36 PM
I'm fairly certain it didn't in the beginning.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:36 PM
Hmm. Well, fairly certain it's been that way for at least multiple patches, then

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:36 PM
If they adjusted it during Shadowlands great but I remember a point where it didn't in Shadowlands at least.
[4:37 PM]
Either way, it does now :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:37 PM
Indeed!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:37 PM
As far as the Trading Post, I didn't think I was putting in any particular effort, but I find myself already done with the Trading Post credit 3.5 days into the month.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:38 PM
Heh, I think I'm about 300/1000.
Raids and battlegrounds usually do the trick over the month, so I'm not worried.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:38 PM
Mind you, I'm not complaining, just surprised, heh.

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:38 PM
I needs must apologize to everyone, but I have a visit to go to for a deceased friend. Local. I will try to return later to read Ar's report. Namarie all!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:39 PM
I'd rather be done too soon that struggling to find stuff to fill in the gap at the end.

Varda — Today at 4:39 PM
Namarie Sandalf

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:39 PM
Take care Sandalf. My condolences extended to you and your friend's family as well.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:39 PM
Namarie, Sandalf!

Sandalf13 — Today at 4:39 PM
Sei gesund!

Varda — Today at 4:39 PM
Good of you to do that!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:40 PM
Well, sure, Eonwe, but that doesn't mean I have to go out of my way to do it faster

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:40 PM
No argument there, Phar :}
[4:43 PM]
I was speaking for myself on that. I'm just surprised somehow enough of what I did was enough to fill out the entire bar this fast. I would've expected at least mid-month, but hey, maybe that's just Blizzard's Christmas gift. Plus I started out with about 250 free because I'd already done all the Northrend quests and something else I forget. (edited)

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:44 PM
Oh, yah, had those too. The Northrend ones anyway.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:53 PM
True

Varda — Today at 4:53 PM
On to

Tolkien!

[4:54 PM]
Did anyone have a Tolkien Moment, comment, or question to toss in here?
[4:55 PM]
Ok. I hear people chatting on LotRO and sometimes the questions make me want to remark here. : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:55 PM
Did the lands around Rivendell have wolves?
Not an exciting question, but there you go :}

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:55 PM
Trolls would just sit on em!

Varda — Today at 4:55 PM
Outside the area protected by Elrond's Ring? Likely.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:56 PM
But yeah, certainly to the south of it.

Varda — Today at 4:56 PM
Wooded area would likely have grey wolves, timber wolves.
[4:56 PM]
(I suspect Eonwe of being in the midst of writing a story where there is relevant. )
[4:57 PM]
Inside the protected area, not likely.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
The Three were about preserving. I don't think they'd stop animals from crossing the borders, at the least not just the average animal.

Varda — Today at 4:58 PM
Protective of the area
[4:58 PM]
Is a wolf an average animal?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 4:58 PM
Otherwise the wardens of Imladris wouldn't have a job.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 4:59 PM
Probably, if not corrupted.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:00 PM
A regular wolf, yes, I would say so. A warg, not so much.

Varda — Today at 5:02 PM
Guess that gives the elves target practice when the wolves come after the local livestock, assuming they have any. Rabbits, goats, sheep. Do you suppose Rivendell has livestock? Just hunting and foraging?
[5:02 PM]
Trade?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:02 PM
Even ignoring the more child-directed nature of The Hobbit, Wargs seemed to have a more sinister bent.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:02 PM
Gardening does seem likely.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:03 PM
Elves of the First Age had livestock. Perhaps not droves of cattle in Rivendell, but I can imagine something being raised in those valleys. Goats and sheep perhaps.
[5:04 PM]
Rabbits would be easier to raise for meat, given they need less space.
[5:04 PM]
I would have to suppose they hunted deer and the like.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:06 PM
Fishing, probably as well

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:07 PM
I don't think we have a clear picture of the amount of land they were working with in the valley where Elrond's house was located, but I seem to remember that not being the only valley.
[5:08 PM]
Or at least that's the impression I got from the description of the Dwarves' journey through the area.
[5:09 PM]
I seem to remember something about trees being tall enough to make one not realize just how close they were to falling into one of them.

Varda — Today at 5:10 PM
In other stuff,
[5:11 PM]
I heard folks in World chat in LotRO talking about the Great Eagles being just birds or not. Were they anything more than just birds?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:11 PM
Well, I don't recall them being Maiar, but they were definitely linked to Manwe.

Varda — Today at 5:13 PM
Working for him, at least.
[5:13 PM]
Kind of like, what were the Ents? Working for Yavanna but less aware of that?

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:13 PM
"They came on unexpected valleys, narrow with steep sides, that opened suddenly at their feet, and when they looked down surprised to see trees below then and runnign water at the bottom. There were gullies they could almost leap over, but very deep with waterfalls in them. There were dark ravines that one could neither jump nor climb into. Ther ewere bogs, some of them green pleasant places tro look at, with flowers growing bright and tall; but a pony that walked there witha pack on its back would never have come out again."
- "A Short Rest", The Hobbit
Varda — Today at 5:14 PM
Ohh, the bogs. Some dangerous territory in dear Rivendell.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:14 PM
Artax

Varda — Today at 5:14 PM
Steep ravines.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:15 PM
They were birds, more than the average bird but still animals.

Varda — Today at 5:15 PM
Gullies they could "almost* leap over, as if to tempt into danger.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:15 PM
Not gonna go find that particular clip, Phar.  agreed.

Varda — Today at 5:16 PM
I'd agree that the Great Eagles were birds, but they worked for Manwe. We know they ate sheep and had to be wary of the arrows of shepherds.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:16 PM
Aye on the gullies and the eagles.

Varda — Today at 5:16 PM
"Of the Ruin of Doriath", Sil

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:16 PM
Smarter than the average bird.

Varda — Today at 5:16 PM
But the watch of the great eagles was now redoubled, and they marked Húrin well, far below, forlorn in the fading light; and straightway Thorondor himself, since the tidings seemed great, brought word to Turgon. But Turgon said: "Does Morgoth sleep? You were mistaken."
"Not so," said Thorondor. "If the Eagles of Manwë were wont to err thus, then long ago, lord, your hiding would have been in vain."
[5:17 PM]
End quote.
[5:17 PM]
So Thorondor at least considered themselve the Eagles of Manwe with a job.
[5:18 PM]
I don't remember a spot where Treebeard mentions being the Ents of Yavanna. But they may have said such a thing long ago.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:18 PM
They were creatures of Aman, so they were perhaps "elevated" for a lack of a better word.
[5:21 PM]
The description of their creation paired with Ents in the Sil does seem to indicate a level akin to the Ents and other sentient creatures.
[5:24 PM]
I guess a pertinent question would be: Can an eagle "fall"? Or a clearer way to put it, does it have Free Will?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:25 PM
clips wings oh, you mean that...

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:25 PM
Heh, I suspected that joke was coming from someone.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:26 PM
I suspect that'd be difficult considering the strength of their link to Manwe. They'd have a constant influx of Valar influence.
[5:26 PM]
I'm sure they could choose, but they're just not very likely to.

Varda — Today at 5:27 PM
Perhaps they felt pride (the good kind) in being chosen for that service.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:28 PM
We know Valar, Maiar, Elves, Men, Hobbits, Dwarves can fall. We haven't heard of fallen Ents or Eagles.
[5:28 PM]
We know Huorns would be about the botanical equivalent of a bear or other wild animal.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:28 PM
Old Man Willow's rather more huorn than ent, I think.

Varda — Today at 5:29 PM
Huorns seem more "sentient" than just a bear.

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:30 PM
Considering animals can talk in MIddle-Earth and still not be considered on the level of the Eruhini, there's some level of intelligence at least I'd say in most creatures.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:30 PM
There are bears in Numenor described in Nature that almost make them look sentient.

Varda — Today at 5:31 PM
And the ones working with Beorn. Not sure if they were mere bears or Beornings.
[5:31 PM]
Since it's well after the hour, it must be time to give you all this video. Feel free to substitute your own style of family gathering in the place of this one. : )

    The Babylon Bee
How To Talk To Your Uncle At Thanksgiving About Why The Fellowship ...
It happens to all of us: you sit down around the dinner table with your family, thank God for the turkey, and just as you're about to take a bite of grandma's delicious cheesy potato dish, your crazy uncle starts ranting about how the Fellowship could have just taken the Eagles to Mordor.

After-meeting

[5:31 PM]
declared while the gavels are having eggnog with the hammerpad

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:32 PM
My family: "Lord of the Rings? Is a fantasy book really worth that kind of discussion?"

Varda — Today at 5:32 PM
hehehehe

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:32 PM
Saving me from getting too caught up in the discussion? I needed to wrap up anyway :}

Varda — Today at 5:32 PM
Yes, yes it is, family. : )
[5:32 PM]
After-meeting allows more discussion on your own time. : )
[5:32 PM]
But it's over half an hour over time, so... : )

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:33 PM
I must be off. Take care all, good night, sleep well, and enjoy the new story :}

Varda — Today at 5:33 PM
Our family all being Valarites, this is a fun clip. But we would all argue with him. ; )
[5:33 PM]
Namarie Eonwe!
[5:33 PM]
I did enjoy the story!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 5:35 PM
But why didn't they just use ninja wizards?
[5:35 PM]
Namarie!

Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:35 PM
They were too busy fighting the Rogue Pirates? :}

@Varda
I did enjoy the story!
Eonwë Valar — Today at 5:36 PM

Personal gaming report:
[8:36 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, a puzzle platformer this week,
https://www.kongregate.com/games/EPGstudios/the-man-who-cant-jump
    Kongregate
    The Man Who Can't Jump
What if, instead of jumping, your character could raise the ground beneath (and above) his feet? Play through 64 challenging levels to find out!

[8:38 PM]
Make your way through each level to collect the coins, as well as an optional star in some levels. You can't jump, but by pressing the up button, you raise the terrain column beneath your feet instead. Shape the ground in such a way that you can get to the end!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:43 PM
Blizzard gaming:
[8:44 PM]
Hearthstone:
Level 49 on the reward track.
[8:44 PM]
Completed the event quest as well, by finishing every daily quest I got, with only a few days to spare; besides some packs, final reward was a Trader Rafaam warlock skin.
[8:45 PM]
Tavern brawl is an interesting one: Pick a Hand, Any Hand, wherein you make a deck of 7 cards; after the mulligan the rest of your deck is filled with unstable portals.
[8:46 PM]
With the portal card being an arcane spell, I immediately went for the mage, using quests to play spells and minions that reduce the cost of spells, to capitalize on the portals as much as possible.
[8:47 PM]
It didn't always work, as some other classes can have gimmicky decks as well; indeed, special priest decks were the enemy
:)
But when it did work, it worked very well indeed!
Warcraft Rumble:
More progress! Got my last 2 missing alliance leaders, Maiev Shadowsong and Jaina Proudmoore, leaving just 2 horde leaders to get.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 8:50 PM
Indeed, it is alliance week, and sending Tirion to the dungeon got me some easy clears, and 5 army upgrade levels for his army.
I'm starting to hold my own in pvp as well, with several leaders, though we'll see at which point wins no longer give 3 times as many points as you lose for losing :)
[8:52 PM]
On the actual (sigil) campaign, I've cleared Lordaeron/Tirisfal Glades now, and started on the Hinterlands. That's still giving me a bit of trouble, but we're progressing!
On the grid I've been noticing that, rarely, minis can be bought with an instant gain of 3 stars, getting them straight to uncommon, rather than getting 1 star at a time. At a bit of a discount as well, compared to buying them separately to level them to uncommon.
[8:54 PM]
This way I've gotten both the S.A.F.E. Pilot, who's also the game's mascot, and the Living Bomb spell to uncommon, and am now waiting for their preferred talents to show up on the grid.
And along the way I've gotten my collection level up to 20 as well, getting more experience bonuses!
[8:57 PM]
Diablo 4:
Did some of that as well! Got some more side quests done in Scosglen on my druid, getting him to level 55. Which is the base level for this tier 3 difficulty, so I'm no longer underleveled ;)
Oh, and a free item appeared in the shop, the Azurehand Spellslinger wand cosmetic, though I'm not quite sure what the occasion is  Still, nice to have!
[9:02 PM]
WoW:
More raiding! We got 2 more bosses down on heroic, Volcoross and the Council. Now working on boss 5, which we'll have more goes at on tuesday.
[9:03 PM]
I also got my third tier-piece, as well as a ring from the weekly Timewalking dungeons.
[9:03 PM]
No, a necklace, not a ring.
[9:04 PM]
Still an upgrade!
[9:05 PM]
And as I mentioned before, doing timewalks unlocks vault slots now, so I'll have 5 choices this week, though the dungeon slots are lower level.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:07 PM
I also did the battleground blitz brawl again, though it took a few tries, and it got me to honor level 120. 5 more until a new mount!
[9:09 PM]
And finally, a bunch more anniversary boss kills. Not as lucky with new appearances this week, though I did get a mail helm appearance from the green dragon Taerar. So now I've 2 more cloth and 3  more mail pieces to gather.
[9:09 PM]
There's only a few days left, though, so that's probably for next year. Still, we've made good progress this year on the collection, and it's good to know I won't have to kill them as often next time
[9:10 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[9:11 PM]
Namarie

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:11 PM
Namarie! I caught the end!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:11 PM
:)

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:12 PM
When is your projected move date?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:12 PM
Getting the keys on the 16th, moving over on the 2nd of january.

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:12 PM
Wiunderbar!
[9:13 PM]
So we are both January movers....I got the keys and moved into my new house last January!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:13 PM
Hah! Good month for a fresh start
[9:13 PM]
But yes, good to lift it over the holidays.

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:13 PM
Indeed. I was fat, dumb, and happy living in Lincoln...Interia! I should have moved years ago.
[9:13 PM]
Inertia

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:14 PM
So yeah, we've been planning a bit more, though the real planning will have to wait until the 16th when we can measure stuff.
[9:14 PM]
So not much new to tell on that front right now.

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:15 PM
Make sure you bring several tape measures or "yardsticks" with you....they tend to get misplaced.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:15 PM
hehe, sounds like good advice
[9:15 PM]
It's not a big place though, so not many places to lose it

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:15 PM
Trust me on this....it is true!
[9:16 PM]
Does your new place have some good views? A nice part of town? Parks and all that good stuff?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:17 PM
It's not too far from the old place, really. It does have a nice view on the road though, and it's not too far from the shops.
[9:17 PM]
Nice and secluded around a corner as well.

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:17 PM
That sounds good. Any further movement on your job search, or is that in abeyance now, awaiting your move?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:18 PM
Not linked to the move, no, but it is a bit slow right now. No news.

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:18 PM
Maybe something will turn up. One must always hold on to estel.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:18 PM
Indeedy.

Sandalf13 — Today at 9:20 PM
My great-grandmother Charna Bluma hand-stitched a beautiful embroidery with the phrase "Die Hoffnung ist der Wanderstab von der Wiege zum Grab." I told my mother to frame it in glass, and she did, and now it will hang in my new home. HAnd-stitched in 1906.
[9:21 PM]
You must be tired. I will let you go to your rest. Sleep well (Schalfen Sie gut) and have a wonderful week ahead, and enjoy the holiday time spirit! Sei gesund and Namarie.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Today at 9:21 PM
You too!
Namarie

Varda — Today at 10:02 PM

Hero Forge® is an online character design application that lets users create and buy customized tabletop miniatures and statuettes.

Sandalf13 — Today at 10:05 PM
I will have to check this one out! Maybe I can find some good patterns to paint my own little figurine!

Varda — Today at 10:12 PM
This is more like the one you made, lots of figurines and even "pets". Color schemes tend to be elsewhere.

Sandalf13 — Today at 10:13 PM
They are about the right size.
[10:13 PM]
Don't know if I will have a chance to work on this week, maybe after I get back. IT will be a long 10 day trip, and I have a lot of things to finish up BEFORE I set out.
Painting my little guy will be a good project over the holiday week once things quiet down again. Everything seems so hectic during the holiday season!

Varda — Today at 10:15 PM
So much fun to be had. : )
