Ah yes, Legolas and the sea...
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:36 PM
Aye
[4:36 PM]
We can start with that one.
[4:37 PM]
To Legolas:
"Legolas Greenleaf long under tree
In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea!
If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore,
Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more."
Why did he think it meant his death?
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:38 PM
I am not sure
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:39 PM
Maybe the gull'd remove his heart?
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:39 PM
He was marching to war and it sounds like she's saying he's not
going home.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:39 PM
Ah yes. If you get near the sea, you'll never make it home.
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:39 PM
I think it just meant that he knew that his heart would find no
peace anymore once he d hear the see , that a yearning to sail
and cross the sea would rectify that
[4:40 PM]
no peace in the forest
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:40 PM
They had also just heard the message to Aragorn that also sounded
dark, just for some context.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:41 PM
Starting to wonder if Galadriel liked messing with people. Giving
them prophecies that sound bad but are decent enough in practice.
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:41 PM
Or not allowed to be straight out about the future?
[4:42 PM]
Going to Valinor was the elvish equivalent of death, so it was not
really wrong. Being forcibly sent there could be pretty rough.
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:42 PM
I don't know how much better a "Legolas, if you go near the Sea
you'll never be happy living in the forests" was going to be.
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:43 PM
Good point.
[4:43 PM]
No going back.
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:43 PM
aye thats what i meant , Eonwe , thanks for putting it straight
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:44 PM
The Noldor had a low-key constant desire to go to Valinor, easy
enough to ignore. But for any of Sindar, the sight of the Sea put a
sudden need to go to Valinor not previously present, that was very
strong.
[4:45 PM]
Probably part of why we didn't see more Sindar in the Lord of the
Rings stories.
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:45 PM
Even in the rosiest of picture-paiting, going to Aman means you're
relinquishing all you've worked for in Middle-Earth. Giving up on
it. Abandoning it. Maybe not so bad for the Noldor still idling
about at the end of the Third Age, but the Silvan Elves probably
thought they had alot more to hang around for.
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:46 PM
a gift from Ulmo? a desire of the Valar to get all of Eru ;s
firstborn back to Valinor?
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:47 PM
The Noldor (those old enough to remember Aman anyway) had been
there, and theirs was mostly a matter wanting to have their cake and
eat it too, so they hung out in Middle-Earth to try and make it as
beautiful as their homes in Aman.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:47 PM
Do we know if the gulls are tied to anyone? [Note: birds
belong to Manwë. He and Ulmo became good friends after they
discovered they made rain together.]
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:48 PM
They're tied to the Sea.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:48 PM
Their cry seems of significance here.
[4:48 PM]
So Ulmu?
[4:48 PM]
Ehr. Ulmo.
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:48 PM
Gulls are sea birds, a sign that you at the Sea. And Ulmo rules the
waters, aye
[4:49 PM]
(Edit buttons are so handy. hehe) (edited)
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:49 PM
I know, but I don't like the (edited) mark ;D
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:49 PM
I don't think it's necessarily the cry of the gulls that's
important, it's just that stirring of that longing in his heart.
You're probably going to hear the gulls before you necessarily get a
look at the Sea.
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:49 PM
Aye, that's kind of messy.
[4:49 PM]
Aye, kind of a warning that You Are There.
Like hearing the surf.
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:50 PM
"nothing ever changes but the surge of the sea"
[4:52 PM]
Thats from a gaelicd poem by the way ...
https://hebrideanconnections.com/record/gaelic-verse/52692/
if you are interested .. it reminds me a bit of that
Varda — 12/10/23, 4:53 PM
Thank you. : )
[4:54 PM]
The message just ahead of that one that set the mood was to Aragorn:
[4:54 PM]
Where now are the Dunedain, Elessar, Elessar?
Why do thy kinsfolk wander afar?
Near is the hour when the Lost should come forth,
And the Grey Company ride from the North,
But dark is the path appointed for thee:
The Dead watch the road that leads to the Sea.
[4:55 PM]
End quote.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:56 PM
P'raps a bit more literal. The Dead watching the road doesn't mean
he's going to be dead himself, despite the dark.
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:57 PM
It was the message to get through the paths of the dead with the
Grey Compnay, the Dunedain of the North that came down to Rohan#
[4:58 PM]
and call the Dead to the stone of Erech
Eonwë Valar — 12/10/23, 4:59 PM
So pairing that with Legolas, it makes Legolas' message more urgent,
like "Hey, you go with Aragorn, you're gonna be in trouble."
Arien Valar — 12/10/23, 4:59 PM
but i fear i am called by something else
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 4:59 PM
The road to the Sea, yep.

leaving only 3 to go, though for that I'll need to complete chapter
3 of the season journey. Chapter 2's fully complete now though!
[9:13 PM]
Also, another free weapon appearance showed up in the shop, the
Azurehand Back-Stabber. I won't say no to that!
[9:15 PM]
Hearthstone: Level 57 on the reward track now. Got a random
legendary card as reward along the way, a faerie dragon for the
druid class. Quite good for a dragon deck!
[9:16 PM]
New event quest coming up for Winter Veil, in a day or 2. We'll see
how difficult this one is to complete, last ones required a lot of
xp!
Brawl is Brawl of Gaudiness. Choose a class, get a random deck; all
cards cost half the mana, but you can only play 2 a turn.
[9:17 PM]
I went druid, since those often have expensive minions, and that
actually worked quite well
[9:18 PM]
Warcraft Rumble:
More collection progress, getting the overall level to 21.
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 9:19 PM
Horde week is going now, and I bought Sneed on the grid, my
second-last leader, with only Grom Hellscream remaining. I suppose
he might show up on the grid as well this week, but otherwise he
should show up at some point during leader rewards, I'm sure.
[9:20 PM]
Got 2 new sigil/campaign fights done in the Hinterlands, though it's
getting pretty tough. But I'm also starting to promote more minis to
uncommon and getting their talents, so that should help.
[9:22 PM]
Got the ogre mage to uncommon, and got the right talents for the
S.A.F.E. pilot, the whelp eggs, and the living bomb spell.
[9:23 PM]
PvP season 1 is now complete, and our little guild, based on our WoW
group, managed to get all 3 rewards with mere hours to go, with the
final one being a core to upgrade something to epic later on.
Season 2's already started, and the first reward appears to be a new
beast mini, the chimaera. I'll want that too
[9:24 PM]
WoW:
[9:25 PM]
More raiding! We got bosses 5 and 6 down in the heroic raid,
completing both wings. One firey fight, one more naturey. Pretty
tough, but we got there
[9:26 PM]
Weekly quest is mythic dungeons, of which I did 4, and for the
quest's reward one of my first heroic pieces, gloves. Also got a few
heroic pieces from the raid as well, so my gear's getting better!
Ar-Pharazon-V — 12/10/23, 9:29 PM
Anniversary event's over now. Got my evoker to level 61 along the
way, and he also got new boots appearance from one of the green
dragons, Lethon. Funnily enough, between my mage (cloth) and evoker
(mail) I still need a single piece from each of the 4 dragons now;
my mage only needs the male dragons, and my evoker the female ones.
But alas, they'll have to wait for next year! But we've made good
progress this time around.
[9:30 PM]
Finally, alting! Got a bit of time spent on the mage in Revendreth,
preparing for the Penitent Hunt. This questline marks the turning
point of the zone, and is one of the biggest questlines in
Shadowlands' starting zones. Should be fun!
And that's my report for the week.

Chances are by next year it won't matter what character you use
because they'll be able to collect the appearance regardless of
armor type.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:41 AM
Aha, that's true
Of course, that does mean there's a much larger pool to get loot
from, so a larger chance of duplicates.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:54 AM
Actually, for such bosses it would make more sense to remain
personal loot.
[8:55 AM]
The account-appearance thing seems more likely to apply to old raids
and stuff where you can loot the entire pool already.

LotRO is working again. Another program had
a security breach and once it was fixed, LotRO worked fine.
