Before-meeting

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 3:56 PM
Hallo !

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 3:56 PM
Aiya!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 3:57 PM
How are you, Ar?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 3:57 PM
Good, just wrapping up some gaming stuff before the meeting starts
[3:57 PM]
You?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 3:57 PM
Wonderful. How is your job search going?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 3:57 PM
I've yet to hear back from em.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 3:58 PM
I am good... I ran for 30 minutes today without at pain, and  I walking a lot better too. I have been sleeping perfectly since mid-July. Had my last physical therapy last Friday, and now it is just a matter of time, I hope. It takes so long to heal once one becomes an old-timer like me!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 3:59 PM
Oh, nice!
[3:59 PM]
I'm jealous just of the sleeping bit

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 3:59 PM
Thank you, and good luck with the job hunt.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 3:59 PM
thanks

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 3:59 PM
Well... I can only hope that you get well enough to enjoy your sleep as well!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 3:59 PM
Heat's dying down now, so it's all good. Haven't been dizzy this weekend either.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:00 PM
Superb!
[4:00 PM]
From our old friend Shakespeare: "The innocent sleep, the sleep that knits the raveled sleeve of care, the end of each day's labor, great nature's second course."

Varda — Yesterday at 4:00 PM
Aiya!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:01 PM
Aiya Varda!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:01 PM
Aiya Varda

Varda — Yesterday at 4:02 PM
Pardon, was trying to type up a paraphrase for what turned into a long Tolkien Moment. Not yet complete, and probably should just suggest that folk just read it. ; )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:02 PM
Always good advice in this meeting.
[4:02 PM]
"Read the books!"

Varda — Yesterday at 4:02 PM
@Bounder Aiya! Time to chat about gaming, Tolkien, and just say hi!

Anything else you'd like to mention? And grats on the running!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:04 PM
Fladrif still alive, spectated a few battleground matches he was doing yesterday in Hearthstone.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:04 PM
Thanks! My butt feels fine, but now everything else is sore...not running for almost 4 months will do that to you.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:04 PM
I didn't bring him luck though

Varda — Yesterday at 4:05 PM
But at least you brought him a friend. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:06 PM
True!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:06 PM
Getting back into shape is a bear!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:06 PM

Aiya Irmo!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:06 PM
Irmo! Delighted to see you!
[4:06 PM]
Hi to Miriel  : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:06 PM

Varda — Yesterday at 4:07 PM
Higher-pitched rawr? : )

[4:18 PM]
GSMU e-mail has been sent, so you can send me your gaming info in a side-window now.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:19 PM

Ah yes, I'll poke you in a moment

Varda — Yesterday at 4:19 PM
For those who have already sent in the Games Site Mass Update info, please consider writing or doing art for the Tolkien Site for our anniversary, coming up October 4 very quickly.
[4:20 PM]
The intended rides in Lord of the Rings for the two times are expected to go off, with fireworks. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:21 PM
What's the theme for this year?

Varda — Yesterday at 4:22 PM
We are open to suggestions! This is exactly the time we are requesting ideas. : )
[4:23 PM]
Toss some ideas out there, gang. We might do a mash-up or something entirely different!
We have some time yet to consider them or think them up.

[4:24 PM]
Any other gaming news? Requests for invites?
[4:26 PM]
Our main gaming is on Lord of the Rings, Landroval server. Hopefully we can get set up for more group content, although duoing is ongoing in the kin, and we join up with friends as well.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:27 PM
Aiya Arien!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
We are currently taking suggestions, not set on anything yet. What idea would you like to toss into the pot?

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
aiya Sandalf

Varda — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
Want to hear all the ideas. : )

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:28 PM
well its sort of obvious .. since it came up already last week .. The rings of power
[4:29 PM]
as admittedly lore and tolkien info are sometimes a bit short we could actually collect stuff around the rings book based and as written by The Master himself
[4:31 PM]
in the amazon series i mean . i still like it and there are lorebased things in it even correct but in other places info gets a bit .. lets say mixed up

Varda — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
and some made of whole cloth.
We could go with Rings, aye.
That's a nice wide net to throw. : )
[4:32 PM]
First suggestion made!

Eonwλ Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
A net made of..... rings?!!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Phar's suggestion last time: dwarf ring given to dragon. Melts. Short story!
[4:32 PM]
Ring mail!

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
well that wouild be something .. a mail shirt made of elven rings

Varda — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
Which makes one wonder. Do dragon hoards with all that gold tend to be solid, melted masses after a while?
[4:33 PM]
Thanos would be proud.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
i think i know at least one being who would be like a hound after that

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
From my reading of The Hobbit, it seems that Smaug, at least, just like to sleep o his hoard...he did not "fire up" in his own dwelling, so to speak.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
He still must've given some awful body heat.
But perhaps not to melt gold.
And while making a chainmail vest out of the many lesser rings of power sounds interesting, don't you need to break the rings for that? [Note: no. Use interlocking non-powered rings between them.]

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
How do any of you believe that dragons - in general - create their fire?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
I've seen various theories. Swamp dragons in the Discworld are basically an alchemical factory which they ignite near the nostrils as it flares out... and they tend to explode half the time anyway.
If the fire is actually inside them, they must quite resistent innards.
*have

Irmo — Yesterday at 4:36 PM
I have to go folks, it was good to see yall again, albeit for a short time

Eonwλ Valar — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Take care Irmo.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Namarie!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
That is what  I am thinking too...the body temperature of a dragon may not need to be too high, when they are not generating any fire.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Heh, I've been watching some Rayman: Origins videos agan lately, and one bossfight is within a dragon's stomach where you have to dodge the fire

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:37 PM
Namrie Irmo!

Irmo — Yesterday at 4:37 PM

So make a spark with the teeth vs the outgoing gas maybe?
[4:41 PM]
Maybe flint and steel on fang caps instead of gold fillings?
[4:41 PM]
What's your idea, Sandalf?

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
flint fang caps sounds good

Varda — Yesterday at 4:42 PM
Then there are dragon stories with cold breath and acid breath. : )
[4:43 PM]
Dragons, could be another theme or added in a mash-up.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Hmmhm, in some Warcraft installments too. Acid for the greens, ice for blue, magma for black, I think.
Honestly, when it comes to dragons and their abilities, "magic" is often the answer

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:45 PM
Igniting a fireball from a ball of gas is one thing. But how do you create ice breath?

Varda — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
Playing with plasma.

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:46 PM
I am at a loss...I always assumed, probably wrongly, that a dragon produces fire at need, using elements available in his/her stomach system. Not something they do all the time, as has been pointed out, that would make for a pretty tough stomach.  I envision them making the ingredients in the stomach, passing them upwards, somehow, and igniting the gases on the way out....anyway...

Eonwλ Valar — Yesterday at 4:47 PM
If insects can do it, why not dragons.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:50 PM
Insects breathe fire?

Eonwλ Valar — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
I remember some insect that shoots something akin to napalm. Trying to remember what it was.
[4:53 PM]
I might be misremembering what it was likened to.
[4:54 PM]
Bombardier beetle gets close though:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardier_beetle
    Bombardier beetle
Bombardier beetles are ground beetles (Carabidae) in the tribes Brachinini, Paussini, Ozaenini, or Metriini—more than 500 species altogether—which are most notable for the defense mechanism that gives them their name: when disturbed, they eject a hot noxious chemical spray from the tip of the abdomen with a popping sound.
    The spray is produced f...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Two chambers with different ingredients, produce a reaction when mixed. That works too.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
fire for red you forgot , Phari

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
Ah...so my hypothesis may not be so far off the mark!
Fire when ready, Gridley!

Varda — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
If cows can have chambers of a sort, then hmm. : )

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
Ah, true, Arien

And it is the 6th most abundant element in the Earth's crust...readily available.

Varda — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
Tremors: natural sodium ignited. : )
[5:00 PM]
Could be that dragons like to be near oceans, salt domes.
[5:00 PM]

After-meeting!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:04 PM
I have a funny story for you. When I first tried to set up my Gmail account, I had to create a new user i.d. Being a geologist, I naturally thought I could come up with something unique...The eight most abundant elements in the Earth's crust are, in order, O - Si - Al - Fe - Ca - Na - K - Mg.  Oxygen-silicon-aluminum-iron-calcium-sodium-magnesium.  I tried "Osial" - it was already taken! Tried Sialfe - already taken! I tried Alfecanak - it was already taken. Obviously, there were some geochemists thinking along the same lines that I was. My i.d. became Fecanak1, and that is what it remains to this day, at least on Gmail. Of course, as a friend said, it does have a rather unfortunate sound to it
[5:05 PM]
Some of those names sound almost elvish.  He he.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
Heh, yes... you're never as original as you think

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:06 PM
You are right again, Ar.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
what is K? Na is Natrium if i remember right

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
potassium
[5:07 PM]
also known as Kalium

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:07 PM
"Na" is sodium. K is potassium. Sorry - I forgot potassium in my story above.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:08 PM
oh right different names ^^#
[5:08 PM]
thankies .. one never stops learning

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
Like Pb for "lead." From the Latin for lead: plumbum

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
yup that makes sense

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
In Dutch they are natrium and kalium.
[5:09 PM]
So the symbols make more sense
That doesn't work for plumbum though!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:09 PM
I believe that the Dutch terms are based on the original Latin names...

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
we're purists?

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:10 PM
Ya sure, ya betcha!
[5:11 PM]
An expression from the northwestern U.S. for "absolutely!" It is a contraction of "you are sure, I bet."
[5:12 PM]
Or alternatively, "It sure is!"
[5:17 PM]
I suspect that Dutch uses something like "lead" as it is a very Proto-Germanic word.
[5:18 PM]
In German, the root for "lead" is Blei...the lei could come from the PG base word.
[5:19 PM]
There is a very famous Yiddish poem called "Di Blayene Platen Fun Der Roms Drucherei." A very tragic poem, written during WWII.

r-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:20 PM
Oh, yes, we use "lood", though you'd pronounce it "load".

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:33 PM
time to retract into the hall of dreams
[5:33 PM]
Namarie all

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:33 PM
namarie!

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:34 PM
Yes..time for me to go to the Library and do some research on Immanuel Kant for the Introduction to my book on Tolkien. Varda asked me to include my thoughts on some influences on Tolkien's writing in the introduction....so I am. I believe Kant was a big influence. Sei gesund, all! Namarie!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 5:34 PM
Namarie, good luck

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 5:35 PM
Thanks, as always.

Arien  Valar — Yesterday at 5:35 PM

Personal gaming report!
[8:28 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, we actually have a new game this week! A badge we hadn't seen before on kongregate.
[8:30 PM]
https://www.kongregate.com/games/Kiddo_Victor/light-wanderer is an interesting platformer where you find a flashlight, use it light your way across dark tunnels - without falling into the lava or getting hit by fireballs, later in the game - and throw the light ahead of you to scout ahead, or throw it at certain anchor points where you can use it to make platforms.
    Kongregate
    Light Wanderer
An innovative platformer where your flashlight lights your way and can be used as a platform!
Check Out my most recent game
    https://www.kongregate.com/games/...

[8:30 PM]
Not too difficult, but a fun few levels
[8:31 PM]
And after you complete it, you unlock light mode, where all the levels are lit up instead, making it rather faster to get around.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:40 PM
Blizzard gaming:

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 8:41 PM
HAllo Ar! I just got back from the Eiseley Branch Library. Thank you for your report that I will now read. As I said earlier, I hope you get some good results from your job search. Take care, and sei gesund!

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:41 PM
Heh, ok  Not done yet though

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 8:42 PM
I know...I just wanted you to know that I was here admiring your artful handiwork.

Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 8:56 PM
Hearthstone:
69 on the reward track now. Feels like it's slowing down.
[8:56 PM]
I did manage the 5 wins for this month, though, getting the Fire Plume card back.
[8:58 PM]
Some battleground event quests arrived, requiring you to play and win battlegrounds for battleground-only rewards. As I don't like battlegrounds and prefer to avoid them, I'm not bothering. I did watch a few friends play, though, including Fladrif, and the luck and improv that goes into it makes me glad I'm not doing it
[9:01 PM]
I did do the brawl, though, which is a special one vs an AI deck, led by Wicked Prince Kael'thas of the Dark Flight, and you have to stop him with a choice of 4 classes/decks/magical girl themes. He starts with an advantage, but you get spell cards which allow you do discover a spell which can be played at 0 cost. And with some luck and the right spell usage, it's not that hard  It doesn't matter which one you choose for the free pack and the 5 brawl weekly quest, but I think I'll try winning with all 4 anyway.
WoW:
[9:02 PM]
With a bit more practice and a bit more gear, we actually managed to take down the Jailer on normal Fated difficulty, with some time to spare even in the fight.
[9:03 PM]
So slimesaber mounts for us! Well, about half of us (including me!), a bunch of our group have missed some bosses over the weeks. So our goal will be to target those specifically for people who are around for the raid at the time
[9:04 PM]
We'll also poke heroic some more, but the main goal has been achieved or close to it for some.
[9:05 PM]
With some heroic bosses down we did get a heroic fated item from the vault again, which for me was a pretty good feral trinket. Which means both trinkets are set. Would be nice to get some tanky ones upgraded though.
[9:06 PM]
In any case, it means I've got a Jigglesworth Sr. mount  A green slimecat which I'm also using on my poison rogue, fitting his green theme.
Weekly is timewalks, which I've poked all 5 of, but only got a cloak which I'd already had better of, so eh.
[9:07 PM]
For anima, I bought a prairie dog soulshape from a vendor in Ardenweald. Only one to go for 20k anima, and then I'll be done with all of that.
[9:08 PM]
An in-game friend of mine stopped playing after 10 years, alas, having burned out on WoW and no longer wishing to give money to Blizzard after all that's happened. I still see him on Discord and, actually, in Hearthstone, so there's still contact, but it's unlikely we'll see him back in-game any time soon, including Dragonflight.
[9:10 PM]
I took over some stuff from him as he cleaned out alts and banks and sent stuff to various people, and he gave me 9 new pets from the TCG set. Not sure if he got them from the cards or the BMAH, I suspect the latter.
In any case, I named the 9 pets in his naming style, so if he comes back, he can have them again. In the meantime, they're in my roster!
Tuskarr Kite, Nightsaber Cub, Sand Scarab, Purple Puffer, Spectral Tiger Cub, Landro's Lichling, Gusting Grimoire, Gregarious Grell, and Eye of the Legion.
[9:11 PM]
So yes, quite a set.
[9:14 PM]
For alts, I continued with the rogue. Alas, he has not quite made it to Maldraxxus yet, with about half a dozen quests to go. Which means he is, in fact, facing Maldraxxus troops in Bastion.
[9:15 PM]
But he did just get to level 54, after starting the week at 51. 54 gives a new poison which slows down enemy attack and casting speed, apparently. That should really help with his survivability!
[9:16 PM]
And that's my report for the week!
[9:17 PM]
Namarie

Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 9:18 PM
