Hallo to anyone who checks in here! It is a cold, sort of gloomy
evening,, and I am so glad to be here at the Eiseley Branch
Library working on my Tolkien book. The leaves are almost all
down, and it has been an on and off drizzly sort of day, with
Halloween coming up soon, Perfect weather for Halloween! We may
not get our usual snow before Halloween, but anytime now...hope
you all are well and doing good things. Sei gesund!

Brings up a very interesting linguistic point. Did you know that
American English preserves many of the older words in English from
the 16th and 17th Century that modern English English has given up
on? For example, we refer to Sep-Oct-Nov as THE FALL, since all
the leaves are falling. Fall is, as you know, very English (A-S).
THe English prefer to use the Latin term "Autumn." We still use
more irregular verb forms than the English. When I was in London
for my daughter's 2nd wedding reception in 2008, I got some very
strange looks when I said "I have gotten....." Gotten is the
irregular past participle of "get." I get, I got, I have gotten.
The English think that is cute.

As far as I know, yes. "Got" has replaced "gotten" as the past
participle.

Do you know of the old comic "Lil' Abner,?"
From the 1950s and 60s...In the Appalachians, the old
Scottish/English settlers still use "vittles" as a word for food,
from the old English word victuals, that no one else seems to use
anymore...even in England. You can see signs that say "Good
vittles here."

Your Personal Gaming Reports are always interesting...I could not
possibly do the same, but I can give you an update on "The Geology
of Middle-earth," Chapter 3...Varda asked me to drop Tom Shippey's
picture of the change from Tolkien's original "flat-earth" model
to the world of the Third Age, so OI made my own picture. Of
course, in Tolkien's Third Age, no one knew about North and South
America as of yet...

the Peter Stuyvesant Houses.

I found out that the bags - one of the few non-moveable elements -
have been moved to the right side, making them overlap with the
right actionbars, making it difficult to actually put stuff in

I skipped Hearthstone this week.
Between the vacation and a bit more Particle Fleet, I decided to
just call the week a loss for Hearthstone and will go for all the
quests again next week :) Brawl is the Halloween classic
"Haunted Carousel" with a bunch of dreadsteeds (the minion that
resummons itself as death rattle) and a board rotation each turn.
Luck required! I'll try to poke it on tuesday, see if I can still
get a win before it resets :)

Not too much news, with no raiding and several days of not being
at home.

It took a while after I got home to sort the UI to something I'm
vaguely familiar with, get all the addons up to date that I could
(at least 2 still eluding me though) and sort out the talents for
druid, paladin, rogue, mage and hunter (at least not many points
to spend on the last one yet).

I tried to keep them to the playstyle I like, but I'm sure gonna
need those last 10 points up to 70 in Dragonflight before I'm
fully into it.

Been poking the Hallow's End daily quest a bunch more times with 3
characters, but no luck on the fourth hat. With it ending tomorrow
morning, I guess I'll have to try again next year!

Weekly is arena skirmishes, which is going quite well still in
guardian spec. At least that's not worsened.
In fact, with the tier setbonuses disabled, I was able to equip
some higher ilevel gear that I had sitting in my banks until I
could use them to replace the tierset, either by patch or by
catalyst.

Finally, alts!

Callunara the classic DK is progressing again, killing some people
in New Avalon and finding out about Scarlet Crusade plans
concerning Northrend. Next week I think I'll be meeting some npcs
deeper into the Scarlet base, as the conflict gets more serious.

Caliona the huntress has made it from level 20 to 22, completing
some quests to the northwest around the oracle tree. Next week,
the last chapter of the Teldrassil quests shall begin!

Even at her low level I did have some talent choices, and gave her
Animal Companion again so she can use the 2 pets In fact,
most of her talents will be pet-based.

As for the mage... I got about 20 minutes played on her tonight,
only time this week, as she dropped into the Temple of Purity to
help some aspirants in need. The story's really going to pick up
in that area, and I hope the patch fixed most of the dialogue
bugs.
With patch stuff sorted and the new events not happening until
phase 2 on the 15th of November, she should get some questing done
from here on.

Oh, and the death knight hit 57. Not that it matters much, it's
the questing that counts for her
