I often wonder if Pacific Time is the time to be peaceful.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:15 PM
...Does that mean it's the peaceful ocean?
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:15 PM
Yes indeed...that is why Balboa gave it that name...he was the
first Spaniard to see the Pacific Ocean from the west side of the
Isthmus of Panama.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:16 PM

Tolkien!
[4:29 PM]
If you have a Tolkien question, moment, or comment, now's the
time! Stop me before my default stuff swings into motion.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:31 PM
Random factoid: Elves had a word for "orange". The color and the
fruit.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
One word for both? Guess they got that from English, because Dutch
doesn't!
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
Two separate words, though descended from the same root.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
That makes sense since it's a mythology for England, which didn't
have it's own.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:32 PM
True that.
Varda — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
Do you happen to remember the word?
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:33 PM
Kuluina for the color, Kuluma for the fruit.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:34 PM
A few weeks ago, Ar and I were talking about the color orange, and
the fact that orange (used to be) a very Dutch color.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
We still have the House of Orange as a monarchy, so it really
still is. And just watch us at the soccer world championships
Varda — Yesterday at 4:35 PM
I remember.

JRRT shows his way of building up his tale as it goes along,
starting slow and finishing strong, when Aragorn as king does his
judgements just after his coronation.
Eonwe? Go ahead.

Eonwe, you were trying to type something? Go ahead, please.
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:40 PM

can't say.. People just liked it better that way."

Varda — Yesterday at 4:44 PM
Aragorn's judgement after the War of the Ring, and notice JRRT's
build-up as it goes:
[4:44 PM]
The Return of the King, "The Steward and the King"
[4:44 PM]
Quote:
In the days that followed
his crowning the King sat on his throne in the Hall of the Kings
and pronounced his judgements. And embassies came from many
lands and peoples, from the East and the South, and from the
borders of Mirkwood, and from Dunland in the west.
And the King pardoned the Easterlings
that had given themselves up, and sent them away free, and he
made peace with the peoples of Harad; and the slaves of Mordor
he released and gave to them the lands about Lake Nurnen to be
their own.
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:45 PM
(wow, Eonwe, I had that song in my head today out of nowhere)
Varda — Yesterday at 4:45 PM
And there were brought
before him many to receive his praise and reward for their
valour; and last the captain of the Guard brought to him
Beregond to be judged.
[4:45 PM]
(Prescient Phar!)
[4:45 PM]
And the King said to
Beregond: "Beregond, by your sword blood was spilled in the
Hallows, where that is forbidden. Also you left your post
without leave of Lord or of Captain. For these things, of old,
death was the penalty. Now therefore I must pronounce your doom.
"All penalty is remitted for your
valour in battle, and still more because all that you did was
for the love of the Lord Faramir. Nonetheless you must leave the
Guard of the Citadel, and you must go forth from the City of
Minas Tirith."
Then the blood left Beregond's face,
and he was stricken to the heart and bowed his head.
But the King said:
"So it must be, for you are appointed
to the White Company, the Guard of Faramir, Prince of Ithilien,
and you shall be its captain and dwell in Emyn Arnen in honour
and peace, and in the service of him for whom you risked all, to
save him from death."
And then Beregond, perceiving the
mercy and justice of the King, was glad, and kneeling kissed his
hand, and departed in joy and content.
And Aragorn gave to Faramir Ithilien
to be his princedom, and bade him dwell in the hills of Emyn
Arnen within sight of the City.
"For," said he, Minas Ithil in
Morgul-vale shall be utterly destroyed, and though it may in
time to come be made clean, no man may dwell there for many long
years."
And last of all Aragorn greeted Eomer
of Rohan, and they embraced, and Aragorn said: "Between us there
an be no word of giving or taking nor of reward; for we are
brethren..."
[4:47 PM]
End quote.
.
[4:47 PM]
The alliance between Gondor and Rohan is affirmed strongly as more
than politics being also like brethren, and includes the offer of
burial for Theoden among the Kings of Gondor, receive for a short
time until the body can be taken back to Rohan.
This way of speaking of their alliance may also bring back
thoughts of how Isildur's sons worked together as brothers in
ruling the North and South.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:50 PM
so strange that this alliance grew so strong .. after all it
was the marriage of a gondorian prince to a rohirim
princess that caused long years of conflict
between these two peaples but then another such
marriage brought a final end to that as well
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
WHich conflict would that be?
Varda — Yesterday at 4:51 PM
Turn about : )
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:52 PM
Do you mean a princess of Rhovanion rather than the Rohirrim?
(different group)
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
For 10 years after Castamir usurped the throne from Eldacar, the
rightful heir to the throne of Gondor, there was violent warfare
between the two groups. Castamir destroyed Osgiliath and executed
Eldarar's son Ornendil (or something like that). He was a bad
apple, a true Feanorian...
Varda — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
heh
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
(Even though he was, obviously, a mortal.)
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:54 PM
That's the one I was thinking of. Princess of Rhovanion.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:55 PM
ah yeah sorry i got confused there its so similar
[4:55 PM]
soundwise anyway
Eonwë Valar — Yesterday at 4:56 PM
Understandable
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:57 PM
That brings up a question I have thought about for years...not
apropos to this topic, but one that we might consider someday.
Which one of Feanor's seven sons was the least like Feanor, in
other words, which of Feanor's sons was the nicest guy out there?
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
I remember Maedhros having some specific redemptive qualities.
Sandalf13 — Yesterday at 4:58 PM
Yes...so did Maglor, certainly. Their tale is certainly a tragedy
of epic proportions.
Arien Valar — Yesterday at 4:59 PM
right valarites i ll have to say Namarie for now
as it is an early start i feAR

the most level-headed, with Maglor not far behind. Caranthir,
Celegorm, and Curufin all had their problems as I recall. (edited)

Personal gaming report!
[6:29 PM]
For (non)flashgaming, something different, not on the
Kongregate website!
[6:30 PM]
https://www.nonograms.org/
is a site filled with nonograms, also known as japanese puzzles,
where the numbers to the side and top represent sequences of
numbers to fill in. I'm a bit of a fan of such puzzles, and while
one of my favorite kongregate games of that nature died with
flash, I was happy to find this website.
[6:31 PM]
Right now there's about 50000 puzzles available, with new ones
coming out all the time!
So enjoy
I found it earlier this week and am about 130 puzzles in already,
that's how addicting it is ;)
Ar-Pharazon-V — Yesterday at 6:45 PM
Blizzard gaming:
[6:48 PM]
Hearthstone:
Going along normally again. Made it to 137 on the reward track.
Expansion coming in 1-2 weeks, so it's almost over with this
particular track, but it's been a decent run.
[6:49 PM]
Brawl is macaws: The cheap hunter beast minions that add a random
beast to your hand on battlecry. Choose a class, get 7 random
spells for that class and 23 macaws.
Lots of randomness abound, but some classes synergize with beasts
more than others, so if you're lucky, hunter and druid especially
might give you some relevant spells.
[6:52 PM]
WoW:
[6:52 PM]
Still no normal raiding, but did get myself a crossbow from our
weekly oldschool Orgrimmar group. 3 weapon appearances left to get
on the rogue!
[6:53 PM]
Also still no weekly quest, but with double events going on, that
was for the best, because things got busy :)
[6:54 PM]
To start with, a few minutes spent visiting my non-Argent Dawn
alts whom I only poke for the anniversary, to give them the
achievement and the gift from the mail
[6:55 PM]
Visited the worldbosses for the anniversary with both mage and
evoker. Got no new cloth and mail appearances this week, and
anniversary ended today so they'll try again next year.
[6:56 PM]
But they did pick up some upgrades overall, necklaces, rings and
even a staff weapon for both of them. That should help them out a
lot :)
[6:57 PM]
Got the introduction quests for Dragonflight up to the primal
invasions done on 5 characters total, 3 of which also went for the
Uldaman dungeon and quest.
[6:58 PM]
This gave me all the possible weapon appearances from the quest
rewards, and I also used my druid's run (second run, actually,
since I hadn't found any the previous week) to collect all 5 lore
books from the dungeon. No idea whether they'll be available in
the level 70 version of the dungeon after pre-patch ends, so
I figured I'd grab em all now. But they're fairly unique and
interesting, so I doubt they'll be removed.
[7:00 PM]
There's some good stuff in there: About a new continent called
Avaloren, a new race of dwarf-like Earthen descendants holed up in
some geographical anomaly, and hints at some Titan secrets that
not only cast some shade on those beings of Order, but even imply
that the time of the Old Gods had some good stuff going for it.
[7:01 PM]
Since Blizzard is rapidly running out of continents and races
hinted at in past games and expansions at this point, I can only
assume that these are put in to give them some new stuff to work
with for future expansions.
[7:02 PM]
In fact, I think that Pandaria up to Shadowlands would make a good
Chronicle volume 4, with Dragonflight jumping off in a whole new
direction.
[7:04 PM]
Anyway, after the Uldaman runs, I decided to take 5 characters
into the primal invasions to get them their achievements for all 4
elemental lords, as well as enough dropped gear and primal
essences to complete every transmog from the vendor.
[7:05 PM]
After getting started with the druid, paladin and rogue, I took
the mage to the vendor and realized... you need to be level
60 to buy the appearances from him.
[7:05 PM]
With my mage at 52 and hunter at 31, I panicked a bit.
Was I going to miss out on the cloth and mail sets?
[7:07 PM]
Luckily, there were other ways! There have been groups up around
the invasion spot in the Badlands to farm experience at quite a
good rate, and after about 2 hours of grinding with such a group,
I managed to get the mage all the way to 60. 8 levels in that
time, probably the fastest leveling I've ever done :)
While I wasn't going to try that with the hunter, luckily my fresh
Drac'thyr Evoker also wears mail, and he was 60 already after
hopping out of his starting zone.
[7:08 PM]
So once again I hibernated the huntress, let my rogue buy the
crossbow appearance (more crossbows!) and went with the Evoker for
the mail pieces.
[7:11 PM]
And between getting my druid all 4 pieces from the elemental
bosses for the new heirloom, the Unstable Elemental Confluence,
getting all 5 characters their elemental lord achievements, and 2
hours spent leveling the mage on essence-dropping mobs, I had
moooore than enough to buy all the appearance pieces from the
Storm vendor, the weapons and all 4 armor sets, at least those
pieces of which hadn't dropped from the elemental lords and their
lieutenants along the way.
So the collection's complete, and not 2 days too early :)
[7:13 PM]
I also got the new pet on each of the 5 characters through the
questline, the Primal Stormling, and since you can only get the
pet 3 times into the pet journal, mage and drac'thyr are keeping
it in their bags. Might be useful in the future?
[7:14 PM]
And I also got the Bag of Furious Winds toy from the storm vendor
for 100 primal essences, which is quite fun :)

This sounds very exciting! I wish that I knew enough about gaming
to see you in action!

[7:19 PM]
And since I had hundreds of essences left, I sent 5 of them to
each of my characters on the Argent Dawn server - 20 in total -
and shipped em over to Stormwind to buy the new reagent bag from
the vendor, a unique 20-slot reagent bag for the new bagslot that
came with the patch, allowing you to store stuff you gather in the
wild for your professions without taking up precious inventory
space. There'll be other bags - bigger bags - later on in the
expansion, but they seemed nice to have.
Getting 15 characters from Ironforge to Stormwind, most of whom
too low to fly, can take a bit of time, but it was worth it ;)
[7:21 PM]
In fact, I finally figured out the optimal route through the city
of Stormwind from the flightmaster to the docks... after 17 years
of regularly visiting the place :)
[7:23 PM]
I also sent 5 essences to my "main" horde alt on Sha'tar, to get
him a reagent bag, but when he got to the harbor and zeppelin
tower, the place was phased, and the horde equivalent of the storm
vendor wasn't there. None of the quests he had were related to it,
but I suspect he would've had to pick up and complete the entire
Legion intro to get to it. Why none of my lowlevel alliance alts
had to do the same, I don't know.
[7:25 PM]
In any case, I still ended up with about 700 primal essences and
nothing useful to spend them on. Similar to the scourgestones from
the pre-Shadowlands event, I might just keep them in the bag as a
reminder.
[7:27 PM]
Speaking of things going away with the launch, I found out that
the coin vendors in Oribos, for the 3 fated raidcoins, are also
leaving. So I visited them, bought 2 upgraded versions of my
favorite bear trinkets and a weapon appearance - not really
necessary since it'll still be available later on, but still,
might as well spend it on something.
[7:31 PM]
I also know that the fated raids will go back to normal, and you
won't be able to get the mount item from Heroic Jailer anymore. I
have the item, but not the mount yet, since I never unlocked
Zereth Mortis to turn it in. I hope they only remove the drop, and
neither the quest nor the item itself if you already have it. It's
not a particularly great-looking mount, so it wouldn't be the
worst thing, but still a bit sad. Guess we'll find out in a day or
so!
[7:36 PM]
I did get 2 new mounts this week, though; on logging the above
mentioned horde character, he unlocked the Alabaster Thunderwing,
the horde version of the anniversary mount from the pack I'd
bought.
[7:37 PM]
And finally, I completed the Death Knight experience on Classic
with Callunara, finally unlocking the Frostbrood Proto-wyrm on the
retail version of the game, where my retail frost death knight is
already enjoying her new mount :)
[7:40 PM]
And that's my report for the week, concluding both WoW events.
Next week the new expansion hits, and while I might not enter the
Dragon Isles right away - waiting for the early flood of players
and most of the inevitable bugs to go away - I might make some
progress there by the end of the week.
[7:44 PM]
Namarie :)

Funny, I was just thinking about flying hoverboards after seeing
Back to the Future 2 in the tv guide.
